What’s up my fellow cereal lovers! Happy Wednesday to ya! 😀
Before we start celebrating the deliciousness that is WIAW, I need to make one more brief cereal mention because, as of today, I have a new favorite to add to my list, all thanks to a package that I received this morning from the ever so sweet and generous L…
She surprised me with a baggie of my newest addiction after hearing me lament about the fact that I wasn’t able to find it in any of the stores near me…
Obviously, I had to dig in stat…
… and… Ohhhhh.mi.gosh. I’m in love. Both with L and Enjoy Life Double Chocolate Crunch granola. The chocolate. The crunch. The kindness. EeeeEEEEeee. I’m smitten…
… and now I’m ready to party…
When it comes to extremely serious and life-altering cereal vs. oatmeal debate, most people tend to agree that oatmeal wins at breakfast time…
Eggy bananafied steel cut oats topped with almond butter and pudding.
While cereal wins at snack time…
Blueberry Greek yogurt, Kashi Honey Sunshine, puffed wheat, cocoa ginger snaps.
… and sometimes even at lunch time. But today, I was feeling a but more savory when the clock struck noon, so I decided to go with something that I haven’t had in a while…
Tofu stir fry! 😀
All I did was saute some pressed tofu and veggies (bell pepper, celery, mushrooms, broccoli) in toasted sesame seed oil and soy sauce, add in a spoonful of sunflower seed butter (this is key) when it was done, and plopped the whole shebang over a bed of noodles. Speedy. Scrumptious. Satisfying.
After letting that digest for a while, and because I was busy with work this morning and couldn’t get my workout in, I decided it was time to get my sweat on, so I headed to the gym for a full body weight session.
As of last week, I kind of gave up following the NROLFW lifting plan. It’s not that I wasn’t getting results, it’s just that I found myself getting bored and not enjoying my workouts as much. So, I scrapped the plan and came up with my own routines based on whatever I felt like working that particular day.
I made it halfway through, though, which is pretty good considering my issues with commitment. One thing I have no problem committing to, however, is my beloved post-workout snack…
1 cup frozen mango, ½ cup almond milk, 1 scoop vanilla whey, 1 tsp. chia seeds.
Apparently, I also have no problem scrapping dinner and snacking the afternoon/evening away…
Greek yogurt, Kashi Honey Sunshine, puffed wheat, Cinnamon Puffins, trail mix.
Chocolate chip cookie dough balls
Random craving: steamed broccoli, hummus, ketchup 😯
Teeccino. Chocolate pudding spiked with cocoa powder and almond butter.
Eggified spelt flakes with cottage cheese and jam.
Yeah. I don’t know either. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow and honor those cravings. Speaking of which, I’m feeling a banana&AB craving coming on, so I’ll end the night on that note.
I hope you’re all having a wonderful [insert whenever you’re reading this], and I’ll see you tomorrow with the giveaway winner! 😀
. – . – . – .
Do you always eat set meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Or do you sometimes find yourself snacking the day away instead?
Do you ever experience some bizarre cravings? Some of the weirdest ones I get hit with are ketchup, salsa, mustard, and pickles.
Flower
I snack through the whole day! 😀
Like that you never have to wait long for to eat, hehe.
I sometimes crave ovomaltine powder (which I eat with a spoon, no milk) or bananas.
Sara K
I usually eat set meals, but when travelling a snackaroo sometimes works. And boy do I get random cravings- the other day I was craving the instead of a baguette (the fluffy soft part) dipped in dijon mustard! I also get texture cravings if that makes sense, like for something crunchy in a specific way or like the taste of something cakey dipped in greek yoghurt
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Makes perfect sense. I get cravings for textures a lot too, which is probably why I have so many different varieties of rolled hot cereals. It’s one of my favorite textures 🙂
Sarina
I get the weirdest cravings… for ages it was tinned beetroot (please don’t judge me), I craved it and ate it every single day. Bah. Thank goodness that’s over. But often I’ll crave things like savoury yogurt (natural yogurt with tomato paste mixed through… don’t knock it til you try it :)) or dried fruit eaten with a spread/margarine. I just try and honour these cravings when nobody can see me 🙂
Rachel @ Eat, Learn, Discover!
lately i’ve been a serious snacker. I just like to eat all the time, ha! But seriously, I find it easier to eat more often and in smaller portions than to eat big meals less often. I feel like I can fit in more variety that way as well.
Hmm, weirdest cravings? raw kale, curry, sauerkraut, zucchini, marshmallows… just to name a few. I’m strange.
fabulousemily
Usually I’m a meal person, but during the summer I definitely went snack crazy! I think it was because I could eat whenever I wanted at work or at home, so It was hard to just stick with meals ;).
vegan aphrodite
My favorit WIAW! So jealous of your delicious meals! Today, your cereal-snack is my favorit! Looks really good. MMM!
I tend to snack more that eating big meals every day! Before, this used to be a problem because i really wasnt eating enought. But now, I have been better at making my snacks mini-meals, so I just eat often and more balanced. At least I try! And I like to snack more tham I like to eat bigger meals.
Food-gifts are the best! I always pretende my orderes from iherb are thoughtfull gifts from the nutbutter fairy 😉
haveasliceofkatypie
My cravings are some times off the charts! But sometimes I crave something so badly and once I finally have that food in front of me I no longer want it. That is rather annoying. Although last night I was eating chilli and had a HUGE craving for ketchup too so you know I smothered that bad boy is the red saucy goodness. Heinz ketchup all the way.
Liz @ Tip Top Shape
I’m pretty set on eating three meals a day. I definitely have snacks if I’m hungry, though. Some days I can go without them but others I am a hungry beast. Those days–bring on the snacks!!
VeggieGirl
When I had the flu/influenza mix, I had a craving for my mom’s homemade matzo ball & vegetable soup.
debbie@accidentlydelish
thank you for eating broccoli with ketchup. because umm i thought i was the only weirdo who did that. not that you’re weird or anything 😉
i think ketchup makes everything better though.
this weekend was a total snack all day/no complete meal kind of weekend, but you know what, it was more fun that way because i got to enjoy multiple snacks, all that i craving, all in one day!
Khushboo Thadani
I feel you on the ketchup cravings- if I go a few days without, I need to get my fix ASAP!
Jade
I usually snack the day away. Breakfast is always a set meal, but besides that, I just go with whatever i’m craving.
Tessa @ Amazing Asset
I would say that most of the time, I snack the day away! This is something I am really working on though because I feel like it has to with my disordered eating issues… that I can’t be receptive of my actual hunger. Working on it though 🙂
I love your recipes… I am going home tomorrow and making the eggified oats 😀
IHeartVegetables
I seriously need to figure out the trick to adding egg whites to oats. I tried it last week and it was a MAJOR fail. It just exploded all over my microwave, and after like 15 minutes of trying, I just had to go to my yogurt, so I could get to work. haha
And that granola looks yummy! I’ve never tried that kind.
Happy WIAW!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Awwr 🙁 Yeah I don’t use a microwave for my oats, so I wouldn’t be able to help you there. I can imagine that mine would end up a major fail if I tried…
debbiecutieface
ooh, I really want to find that cereal now. I think I would love it.
Holly
Usually I’m a 3 meals + 2 snacks kind of girl, but every once in a while I end up snacking all day — it all depends on my schedule and how much running around I have to do.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss
The only real meal I set for myself is breakfast. All the others are just snack/small meal type things. I definitely couldn’t do that with breakfast, though. That one HAS to be big!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Agreed. Breakfast is an every day kind of thing. The thought of going without it just makes me cringe.
blueeyedheart
You know what I had to eat as soon as I got home today, right? 😉 I generally follow set meal times… I don’t know, it just gets on my nerves to snack the day away!
<3 <3
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Did I make you crave some granola goodness? 😀 I totally blame you if I go through withdrawals when I get through my baggie. I’m gonna have to ration myself…
Kate @ Chasing It
generally I eat “set” meals….but funny your WIAW is a snacker post because today for the first time in a long time, I did NOT feel like eating dinner – I was driving home and was like “you know what, I just want some self-serve froyo and mini pretzels dipped in PB” and that is exactly what I had and listening to my taste buds was the best decision EVER!
And I’m a huge fan of the condiment mixing! Sometimes I like to mix spicy brown mustard or hummus with stuff like cottage cheese or laughing cow wedges lol. It sounds so gross to me when I’m not craving it!
lactosefreelizzie
All of your eats look amazing! I usually never eat set meals except if im at a family event or something. I snack thru out the day–it’s like if i get hungry or the munchies, i just eat what im craving. like right now it’s 9pm where i live and im eating a yogurt mess with muffin and bloobs. chyes. 🙂
Kaila @healthyhelperblog!
I love snacking! And all of your look delicious! Love the yogurt mess and the broc humus dish! Total staples right there 🙂
Katie
Hi love!
I usually always have breakfast set! There are few days I don’t , today was one of those days ; )
Loving the tofu stir fry! Looks yum!
Hope you have a wonderful night! Its great to get surprises in the mail!
xoxo <3
almostveggirlie
Who needs dinner when you can have all the amazing snacks you did? 😉
My meals are basically mini meals because I’m so indecisive that if I plan on having an actual meal, I usually end up changing it anyway.
I get mustard cravings too! After a few days I get burned out on it again, which is so weird.
Alexa @ SimpleEats
I snack and have set meals. I’m pretty much just ALWAYS eating! Adding almond butter to your stir fry sounds like a delicious idea!
A.S.
Your eats look so good! Whenever you cook pasta or stir fry, (assuming you cook one-person portions) how do you know how much pasta to use? Do you go by the serving suggestion on the box or do you make a big batch of stir fry and eyeball your portions by the bowl?
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
I make a big batch of noodles because my family like eating them too, and then I eyeball out however much I want and make an individual portion of the actual stir fry to throw on top.
Jessica
My weird cravings….hm. I’m pregnant, so really, where shall we begin?
The weird non-preggo things I like: kraft mac&cheese with ketchup, rice with honey, grilled chicken with honey…anything with honey, really….hmm
Jenny
first of all, I hope you know the girl crush is mutual. Let’s make [food] babies 😉
Oh, and in regards to dropping the workout plan – GOOD CALL! I’ve tried following regimented workout plans and found that I just get bored. I’ve also found that knowing the night before exactly what my workout regime for the next day will be leads me to dreaaaaaaad it like crazy. Not sure if you got my tweet the other day but, before I stopped working out for the summer, I was obsessed with barre training (primarily Physique 57 and Core Fusion!). Seriously – they’re the most fun and effective exercise I’ve ever done!!! Just something to keep in mind if you’re looking to switch it up 🙂
love you long time!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes
Yum! your post just made me really hungry all of a sudden! Happy WIAW 🙂
Hannah
I usually like to have set meals, but sometimes you can’t help but get a bit snacky!
I can never seem to decide between sweet and savory so my cravings usually combine a bit of both.
Though as of late, I’ve been craving hummus which is extremely odd considering i’ve never even has it!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Ooooh girlie you HAVE to try some – your tastebuds will thank you 😀 The blog world is actually what introduced me to hummus, and I’m forever grateful. I eat the stuff every day, without fail.
Hannah
any recommendation, chickadee?
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Tribe makes my favorite one – I like the classic flavor the best. And Sabra makes some really good ones as well.
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance
Spelt flakes! After reading your comment on my spelt post and hearing that you had just eaten some, I had to head over here and check it out 😉
I don’t blame you for dropping the workout plan and going with your own flow. That happens to me whenever I try to pre-schedule my workouts– it just doesn’t happen! My body wants something different every single day, whether it be yoga, weights, Bodyrock, or a nice cardio session. There’s no way I would be able to plan it all a week ahead of time!
Katie @ Nutrition in a peanut shell
When I’m not home, I snack snack snack. I don’t like set meals- most of the time it requires commitment and then I don’t feel like having it so I get grumpy.
I would just like to be you though, with your yummy eats and snack snackin. Wanna trade? C:
haleyy0806
Amen to having mustard cravings. I don’t know what it is about mustard, but I crave it on literally everything.
I try to have set meals every day only because I know that snacking all day won’t satisfy my weird mind. I don’t think my brain believes that snacking = food, regardless of what time you eat it at.
Your smoothies always look sso perfect! How do you get them that consistency??
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Hmmm. Good question. I posted what I put in them, but I really think it’s the chia seeds that make them so pillowy and thick. I let the chias soak in the almond milk for ~20 minutes before, and then I add the rest of the stuff and blend. It could also be because I don’t use much liquid… I only use 1/2 cup instead of 1 cup, because I prefer the consistency to be more pudding like instead of watery.
sarah
I think you had a particularly deicious day!
To be honest I just like to have 3 LARGE meals a day- and then I snack the night away-im a big night time nosher.
I always get like mad cravings for vinegary / pickley type foods. I may or may not have gone through a jar of pickle in 2 days.
Iv got my fingies, toes and everything else crossed I win the giveaway!
Xxx
Alexandra
Okay this post just took my tastebuds to a whole new level of envy– your Greek yogurt messes are the epitome of incredible YUM!! And heck ya my fellow mango smoothie lovin friend 😉
I’m excited you’re lovin your own routines instead– I experienced the same droll boredom with nrolfw, but it lead me to make some of my most beloved routines so I gotta give it some credit haha
And girlll I get weird cravings all the time! Pickles with mustard, sweet potato with mango in a smoothie, tuna and peanut butter…it’s weird but oh so satisfying 😀
Cait @ Beyond Bananas
I love snacking. We are bff…snacking and I. Sometimes I just combine a bunch of delicious snacks and make a meal of it. But usually I snack my face off .. and have a meal too. just on the smaller side.
Albizia
I have bizarre cravings all the time and they lead to snacking instead of set meals because most of them are so weird that I couldn’t call them meals 🙂
Alexis
I gave up onthe book when I started school/started to feel popping behind my knee when I was lifting. So noe I just do whatever my body feels like
I usually snack my way through the day after lunch. I dont know what it is but I can’t stop munching through the day!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
The munchies hit me hardcore after lunch too. I’m okay in the morning, but after lunch, no matter how much I eat, my appetite goes insane and doesn’t calm down again ’till after dinner.
ikeepitclassy
most days i have set meals, but there are some days when i just canNOT stop eating the whole day.
a few days ago i had an insane craving for cheese and salty stuff, which is bizarre because i never crave cheese, or anything salty! and one time i got a craving for eggs with nut butter…
Sarah - feeedingbrainandbody
I tend to have set meals, except sometimes the times are all over the place and I will end up having lunch really late or something. I know what you mean about the NROLFW. I got to the end of stage 2, then I decided to start creating my own workouts which I’ve had fun doing and gotten really sore with. I don’t get super weird combo cravings, but sometimes I will have a huge pickle craving that can not be prolonged!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Hehe stage 2 was when I started getting bored as well, and I quit in the middle of stage 3. I still lvoe the book as a source of info and ideas, but not so much the plan.
sproutybuns
More often than not my meals turn into continuos snacks – especially if I’m indecisive on what I want. Why choose one thing, when you can have many?! Today I was craving Cool Ranch Doritos like crazy! Not bizarre for most people, but I haven’t had these in years!
