What’s up Wednesday! You’re not lookin’ any better, but at least you’re tastin’ mighty fine 😀 And if we can’t celebrate the weather, then at least we can throw a party and celebrate the food. Yippee!
Thank you, WIAW, for bringing a little sunshine to this girl’s otherwise cloudy day. And thank you, Jenn, for being the ever-gracious hostess.
. – . – . – .
Sometimes Most of the time, the things I do make no sense. Case in point: I eat hot oats on hot days, and cold oats on cold days. I’m not really sure what was going through my head while I was making these last night, but I decided today would be a good day to have overnight oats for breakfast…
… blueberry coconut overnight oats, to be more precise. Last night I combined:
- ½ cup rolled oats
- 1 mashed banana
- ¼ cup Greek yogurt
- ½ cup coconut milk (from a can)
… and let it mingle in the fridge overnight. This morning I added some blueberries and slivered almonds, and went to town.
There’s no denying that this was a tasty way to start the day, but after a few bites, I found myself missing my beloved chocolate pudding oats and wishing that I was eating those instead.
Sometimes I try and switch up my meals for the sake of variety, but what ends up happening most of the time is that I just miss my standard favorites. Ahh well. At least I had more luck switching up my pre-workout/mid-morning snack…
That would be a protein cookie dough ball and an empty bowl that was at some prior point filled with a mix of cottage cheese and strawberry Greek yogurt. What? I got hungry…
Thankfully, I didn’t regret deviating from the banana/AB/chocolate pre-workout snack that I usually have, because this gave me all the energy I needed to power through today’s strength training routine. Boom. I’m definitely going to be feeling that one tomorrow. Lunges, you kill me.
And because lifting fires up my appetite like nothing else, I was more than ready to eat again when  lunch time rolled around, but I decided to stick to the tried-and-true instead of trying to come up with something new, because my brain doesn’t work so well when it needs food…
Standard yogurt mess: Greek yogurt, Kashi Honey Sunshine, puffed wheat, Puffins, and trail mix.
&
Mango Tofu Protein Pudding with a salad beast that always includes: red bell peppers, cocktail tomatoes, crimini mushrooms, and cucumbers.
Pretty standard stuff. Nothing fancy or new.
BUT! for the past week or so, I have been dabbling with something new – I’ve been having a dessert alongside my lunch…
If you recall, last week I wrote a post about feeling slightly off and not knowing whether or not it was due to hunger. In the end, I decided to think less, eat more, and see what happened.
Best. decision. ever.
I’ll probably go into more detail about some of the things that I’ve figured out/noticed in tomorrow’s post, but yeah… dessert after lunch is definitely going to become a regular thing around these parts. As are these muffins. Gah. After a few hours of running errands, I was more than ready for an afternoon snack and decided to dig into another one…
… along with some almond butter protein frosting and a bowl of fresh summer fruit…
Thankfully, that managed to hold me over until dinner, at which point yet another repeat offender made an appearance…
And I’m not 100% decided on what my bedtime snack will be, but right now I’m leaning towards my favorite bowl of bedtime oat bran…
… with Greek yogurt, flaxmeal, and maple syrup.
Best lullaby ever.
. – . – . – .
As you’ve probably noticed, I eat a lot of the same meals/snacks on a regular basis. Today’s eats even included 3 bowls of oats, which is actually a pretty common thing. Do I see it as a problem?
Naaaaaah.
I know a lot of people attribute a lack of variety to lingering disordered behaviors, but for me the opposite is actually true. When I was in the depths of my ED, I was completely obsessed with making sure that I ate as many different foods as I possibly could throughout the course of a day, to the point where I wasn’t “allowed” to have the same food twice in one day, and my meals had to be completely different from one day to the next.
Exhausting. For real.
So, the fact that I can repeatedly eat the same thing and not spend hours thinking about food and trying to come up with new meals is actually a good thing. And to be honest, my stomach has been a lot less temperamental since I’ve cut down on the number of different foods I eat – I guess it wasn’t too big on having to digest so many different things, either.
Variety is great, and all, but I love/crave what I eat, and as long as I enjoy it, I’ll eat it as much as I want. And when I get tired of it? Only then will I move on to something new…
Sorry for being boring… except not really 😉
. – . – . – .
Do you eat a lot of the same things every day, or do you like to vary it up?
Do you ever switch up your eats only to wish you’d just stuck to what you normally have?
sunshinevegan
I like a lot of the same foods and I eat them a lot cause they’re my favorite foods! If I didn’t like them enough to eat them over and over, I probably wouldn’t be eating them in the first place!
I always love your WIAWs:)
Katherine
Ok, your breakie looks great! That is one awesome pic 🙂 Nomnomnom!
Meg
I could not agree more. I get in food “ruts” – but I don’t like to refer to them as “ruts” because a) that’s an ugly word and b) I ENJOY eating the same general things and I’ll change it up if I feel like it. If it ain’t broke why fix it?
🙂
Lindsey
I just found your blog yesterday and LOVE it!! I cannot wait to try those muffins! And I love that you eat strawberry yogurt and cottage cheese because I eat that all the time 🙂
Kristie
I’m pretty sure you’re the oat bowl queen. Every post of yours makes me want to run to the kitchen and make a bowl of oats. It never seems to be the appropriate time (aka I’ve usually just eaten!) so I never do. But I’ve been skimping on my oats eating lately so I need to take a page out of your book and oat it up!
I seem to eat a lot of different random things… and my stomach always seems to be pretty temperamental lately. Hmm. Maybe this repeat eat business IS a really good thing to get into. I mean, my meals are FAIRLY similar across the board but I do often feel like I can’t or shouldn’t repeat the same things in a day or even between consecutive days. Why, I have NO idea. What the heck is wrong with oatmeal for every meal? Clearly everything is RIGHT about it.
In conclusion, I love how you eat 🙂
Jenn L @ Peas and Crayons
another yummy WIAW! <3 girl.. i'm on a muffin kick today!!! I've eaten 4. FOUR!!!!! and they were delicious! I had pumpkin staring me in the face and made choc chip walnut pumpkin muffins. divinely dangerous =)
theprocessofhealing
I DO eat a lot of the same things over and over. My breakfasts are a variation among waffles/pancakes, cereal, oats, or yogurt bowls.. changes depending on the season and my mood. I’ve been eating more cereal lately but I’ve been CRAVING stovetop oats. Might have to happen soon…
And I WILL be making those muffins mam, they sound delicious!
Tara
Coconut milk in overnight oats is such a good idea!!! Ohmygosh i can’t wait to try that.
I definitely vary my foods throughout the day, but I tend to have the same things every day. Banana with nut butter, salad, yogurt mess, etc. but I change the flavors and toppings so it’s always a little different.
Megan
Variety is overrated 😉
If you enjoy what you eat, I wouldn’t change a thing. That’s the way I see it!
I’ve been known to eat 2 slices of bread with every meal, because I love it that much 😛
missymiller
Switcher’s Remorse! Yes, I get that all the time.
The Food and Love Diaries
All of your snacks are so tasty tasty tasty looking!! I could kick it with the same 5 foods all day errry day!
Cassie
I literally eat the same things for the same meals everyday…no one gets how I do it but I truly love what I eat. When I get bored, I switch it up 🙂
Tiff
Lunch looks perfect. Simple yet good, and the muffin didn’t hurt either!
I hate it when I switch up and get let down, but it let’s me appreciate my usual east much more.
Holly @ The Runny Egg
I eat a lot of the same foods each day — honestly I started doing that because I like certain foods so I eat them over and over again, plus it keeps my grocery list simple!
Katie
Woot Woot for a sweet WIAW by you ; )
Loving the oatmeal combo with the coconut , I bet that was amazing , looks good !
Girl, my eats can get boring, I eat a lot of the same stuff too, especially when it comes to dinner, its all good ; ) I believe eat what you crave, all the way!
Love ya! xoxo
Sona
Yummm your oats all look delish 🙂 I just have a quick question, do your family mind that you eat different foods to them? Like, say with dinner time, do they accept that you will always have your own foods or does it bother them…i just know with my family they immediatley assume its ED related and that im scared of what their eating even if i genuinley dont like it!! Just wondering if this applys to you atall! 🙂
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
No they don’t mind what I eat – they’re just happy that I’m eating. We’ve never really been the type of family to sit down to dinner on a regular basis… everyone’s always busy running around, so we all do our own thing.
In Sweetness and In Health
Yum your food looks awesome! I am pretty boring with my meals too…I crave a lot of the same things day after day. Obviously I deviate from the norm sometimes, but if I didn’t like the food that I eat consistently, then I wouldn’t be eating it 🙂
Emily
I like to switch it up! I do go through food phases though; I’ll try a new food and I’ll be like OMG HOW HAVE I LIVED WITHOUT THIS IN MY LIFE and then I make it for two weeks in a row and then I’m sick of it and onto something new.
There are always staples though; an oatmeal breakfast bowl never gets old!
Aimee
I totally agree with you Amanda! You should eat what you want and what you crave! As long as you feel great thats all that matters! I too tend to stick with a few stple eals and when i feel like getting creative then i do!
cathlep
I’m pretty conservative toward my foods: oatmeal, cereals, fruits, eggs… But sometimes I like to try some new recipes or new food that I find at the grocery store. I think variety makes life better!
Sometimes, I can eat two times the same thing during the day … but it is often Greek yogurt with fruits!
and Ohh! I love your bowl with cat face 🙂
Alexis - PumpedforPumpkin
I love that you don’t care that you eat the same thing everyday. I’ve noticed during the past few weeks I’m not afraid to have the same foods twice in one day. It does get exhausting to make so many different meals in one day! I love the cat bowl it’s adorable!
I’ve switched up what I’ve eaten many times and regretted my decision! I need to just go with my instincts and eat what I want.
Jess@HealthyExposures
Love that last bit on the end, there – especially because I’ve been eating a lot of the same meals lately, too. I don’t mind 😉 If I’m feeling like cooking I do love mixing it up a bit, and when I have a lot of time I love trying new stuff. But lately…it’s usually “what is good and fast?”
don’t fix what’s not broken, after all!
Tori (Fresh Fruition)
Oh girl, you’re not boring. You know me- I’ll eat oats all day every day! We should get together and have an oat-eating marathon! 😉 As you say- the most important thing is that you eat what you eat because you want it, not because of fear of any sort.
Your eats look delicious and gorgeous as usual! Once my muffins are through I’m going to have to get on making yours… YUM!
I do try to switch things up. I’m like you, though, where I tend to be disappointed if I don’t get what I want. Sometimes I don’t even realize that’s what I wanted until after-the-fact!
Love you, chica! <3
sproutybuns
I’m guilty of eating basically the same meals/snacks everyday. I do try to switch it up occasionally just because I feel like I need to … but 9 times out of 10 I end up disappointed. I know what my body likes and wants and I see nothing wrong with repeating that day after day 🙂
buttonss
I definitely love to eat the same thing everyday. and there aint nothin’ wrong about that.
Stephanie @ Aspiring
I like to vary my eats throughout a single day, but I have no problem eating the same thing for a meal for few days in a row. I just feel like as much as it is important to eat what you crave, you need some variety in your diet for good nutrition. For instance, if I ate some kind of rice-based cereal in the morning, I’ll opt for whole grain (wheat) sprouted bread for lunch or snack.
I’m really interested in what your tomorrow’s post will be. My raging appetite back in May is “back” and I’m eating twice as much as I used to. I just eat when I feel hungry, but by the end of day I start to feel insecure because…it just seems way too much!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
If you’re eating when you feel hungry, then it’s definitely not too much!
almostveggirlie
I try to mix things up, but some things are just too good not to repeat! I’ve had overnight oats every morning for the past 5 days and I don’t regret it. But I mix up the flavor combos so it doesn’t get old. The only problem is that I run out of certain things on a weekly basis, like oats, dates, Greek yogurt and bananas–but I can always go food shopping, right? 😉
sarah
You make THE.BEST.FOOD, for real!(Know wonder you like to do repeat eats!)I made the choc chip oatmeal muffins & they are ridiculously delicious, its love<3 . I keep getting obsessed with your recipes- you have created many addictions- kinda love it though.
I ( like most people I'd say) eat a lotta the same things everyday- when you find something you like why mess with a good thing?
Beautiful, yummy post as always,
Xxx
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Awwr, thanks Sarah! I’m glad you liked the muffins, and thanks for letting me know 😀
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate
I pretty much eat the same thing every day. #storyofmylife
Sweet Cheeks
oats 3 times a day sounds like a great day in my book! I think as long as you are eating what you want, when you want…there is nothing wrong with eating the same thing. Like I always like to say, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes
I eat the same way! the same things againandagain until I am sick of them 🙂
Cait @ Beyond Bananas
I am with you on eating the same foods.. day in and day out. Multiple times a day.. and what have you! I too, often try and mix things up – get creative.. NOT have oats for breakfast.. or the same sandwich for lunch.. same snacks. same times. SOme people may think this is odd… but I LOVE it. Because I love what I eat. It tastes good.. I look forward to eating it.. and nothing else is appealing to me at that point in time!
Cait's Plate
Woohoo for a #WIAW! It looks AMAZING 🙂 I wish I had had all this food this afternoon when my appetite (once again!) raged! Way better than pretzels, almonds and chocolate chips!
Lauren
I eat a lot of the same things on a daily basis, but then again I go through stages of certain favorite meals, so I guess I do change it up eventually. I used to think things like, “No, I can’t have peanut butter, I already had some today,” but that’s just silliness. If you like something, why not eat it more than once in a day?
Kat
wowowowowowow everything looks amazing here girl. I really try to vary things in my diet just so that I can be sure I am nourishing my body enough, but I usually stick to the same few meals 🙂 Every once in a while I will find something on sale or buy it on a whim and change things slightly, but that is pretty rare!!
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
I think I go through little phases. For the most part I like variety in my eats, but when I stumble upon something fabulous I tend to linger on it for a while until I get bored and move on…only exception: bbq & pb&j…nevah evah gonna get tired of that!
Ugh, I HATE it when I decide to eat something else from what I originally thought of…I ALWAYS end up regretting it!
Oh and I love your OO’s with canned coconut milk! I’ve never tried that before. I bet it amped up the richness! Mmm!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Mmm. Using coconut milk in overnight oats is crazy delicious. It makes them a bit more tolerable 😉
Samantha
For the past two years I’d never made the same meal, not twice. However, the past few weeks I’ve been trying the concept of “leftovers” as, I’d gotten a little obsessed with making new dishes… leftovers however are such a gift that I don’t know why I was being so crazy before. This gives me so much more time to do things at night now.
Lately, when I’ve been switching up certain meals I definitely feel as though I want to be eating the meals that I’ve gotten attached too, especially when it comes to certain smoothies in the morning.
Love WIAW, I did my first one today! :D… well half of my day at least…
Samantha

Kaila @healthyhelperblog!
I see no problem at all eating the foods you like! People are always like you need to switch things up have some variety….and I do, but I crave some staples as well! And I don’t see a problem with that at all! Why not eat something you like!?!?!
Sarah - feeedingbrainandbody
I love that bowl that had your pre-workout cottage cheese in it! So cute! I do TRY to mix it up, but most days I end up having quite repetitive meals. Like you I eat what I crave though so I don’t mind being a bit repetitive. Sure makes bulk grocery shopping a lot easier 🙂
movesnmunchies
OMG can i please copy and paste what u said into a post for me! ppl accuse me of the SAME THING and i need that message to come across exactly!!!
BTW YUM EATs!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Go ahead, girlie 😀
