Hello, hello friendly faces! Welcome to another What I Ate Wednesday — a day where we share ALL the food!
Well, all the food pictures, anyways… since neither Apple nor Microsoft have come up with the kind of technology that would let me transfer food through the screen. Oh man, wouldn’t that be epic, though? Posting a recipe and being able to include little virtual samples? They need to get on that, but until they do, I’m afraid we’ll just have to settle for looking at pretty pictures.
So I should probably take a second to explain the title of today’s post. It’s not so much a shoutout to Brit (although high five if you’re old enough to remember her good years) — it’s mostly a way to say that there’ve been some eats on repeat around these parts lately. And not only that, but recipes on repeat.
One of the downsides of constantly coming up with new recipes [for the blog] is never really having the chance to go back and remake old ones that you loved. But then there are those times where you just can’t help yourself…
The reason I get out of bed in the morning (read: breakfast)…
So it’s not even funny how ridiculously obsessed I am with this overnight oatmeal smoothie — like… I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to eating oats the traditional way again. But it’s just so freaking good! Cool, creamy, doughy, filling, and so, SO tasty.
I’ve been having some variation of this smoothie every day for over a week now, and I’ll probably be sharing some of my creations with you in the future, because yeah… obsessed. Ridiculously so.
. – . – . – .
Coffee break…
Okay, so… I know it’s not nice to play favourites with your children (read: recipes), but if you twisted my arm and forced me to pick just one Spoons recipe that I wouldn’t be willing to go without, these soft and chewy protein granola bars would be it (or these cookie dough protein granola bars, which are basically the same but different). This is easily the one Spoons recipe that I’ve remade more than any other. And yes… I totally picked off a couple chocolate chips prior to taking a picture. Priorities, people.
. – . – . – .
Lunch time!…
This isn’t so much a recipe as it is a “throw everything that you’re craving into a bowl and hope for the best” kind of meal… but it’s very much been on repeat around these parts for a long while now.
Today’s cravings included: white basmati rice cooked in coconut milk, black beans, avocado, and mild salsa because I’m a wimp. I’m pretty sure I’ll never tire of this meal… as if evidenced by the fact that I eat it all.the.time.
. – . – . – .
[Get-me-out-of-the-afternoon-slump] snack…
I couldn’t help it… I had to make another batch of these chocolate fudge bites. At 5 AM. On Monday morning. But I tried going a few days without them, and I’m pretty sure I started experiencing withdrawals. You know. Shakes, chills, cold sweats, irritability… the whole nine yards. But at least it was easy to remedy π
Enjoyed alongside some chocolate Power O’s because chocolate on chocolate is always a good idea. And speaking of Love Grown, have you entered my giveaway yet? Today is your last chance before it closes!
. – . – . – .
Winner, winner [breakfast] for dinner…
So forget what I said earlier about never eating oatmeal the traditional way again — apparently I’m all talk.
I probably end up eating breakfast for dinner at least 3 times a week because: a) breakfast foods are delicious, b) I have a huge sweet tooth, and c) I’m lazy. I was actually hoping to whip up something that included roasted veggies, but the thought of turning on my oven when my AC was broken and it was already 27ΒΊC (81ΒΊF) inside my home made me want to die a little inside.
. – . – . – .
Snack…
Is that… something new? And different?!? It is! Hooray for #blendswag and its ability to break me out of my snacking “grooves.”
This was a bowl of Earth Balance vegan aged white cheddar flavor puffs, which tasted surprisingly cheesy considering they don’t contain any actual cheese. And the puff texture is oddly addicting in that I-just-can’t-help-myself way. Enjoyed alondsidge a book, because I fail at watching TV when it comes to winding down for the night.
Happy Wednesday, friendly faces! π

Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I literally eat the same breakfasts and lunches every weekday: oats with fruit and chia seeds for breakfast, something with sweet potatoes for lunch. Breakfast for dinner is so good! It’s my favorite for when I’m feeling too lazy to cook.
Khushboo
You know me and repeat meals- I’m all for them! Lately my breakfasts have become automated- peanut butter toast without fail and a large iced soy latte a little while later…hits the spot and takes all of 3 minutes to whip up! In terms of winding down at night, I’m ashamed to admit that my go-to for doing is my cell phone..be it social media surfing or just chatting to friends on Whatsapp or iChat! Not the healthiest habit but hey- whatever works right ;)!
Kate
Oooooh! That over night oats smoothie looks amazing! Definitely going to have to try that. But, I am glad to see someone else has the same sort of sweet tooth I do π
Kezia @ Super Naturally Healthy
Reading his makes me hungry:) Love that you just go with your body and eat such awesome stuff! I have been obsession with chocolate mousse this week – so darn GOOD. And as for Britney – gotta love Toxic….
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Earth Balance makes amaaaazing white cheddar popcorn, too! It’s super addicting!
She Rocks Fitness
I am totally making oatmeal for dinner tonight, but doing savory with some eggs and bacon and possibly broccolini…I know so WEIRD and random, but I’m craving oats. I love to read to unwind at night. There is no TV in my bedroom. π I can’t stop having smoothies!!!
Will @ TeelFit
Those oats look heavenly….jealous!!
Casey @ Casey the College Celiac
I am soooooo addicted to smoothie bowls for breakfast/brunch. I think I’ve been eating one for breakfast for the last 4 weeks straight. Oops…
As for relaxing, usually I’m a book person, but lately it’s been more TV/Netflix. Going with the flow I guess!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
I’m so lazy with my meals too – if it takes more than 5 minutes to prep, I’m not interested! I NEED to read to fall asleep – I find tv too mentally stimulating.
GiselleR @ Diary of an ExSloth
My favourite Brit song would have to be Till the World Ends. I love most of her older songs too, but that one just makes me wanna dance.
Also, I’ve been loving chocolate Power O’s recently too. So good. Oh and coconut butter. Discovered it yesterday and I can.not. stop.
Shannon
I have that song stuck in my head now! Breakfast for dinner is always a good idea though!
Katie
Your rice bowl looks amazing!! I have been craving rice lately too but haven’t made it yet – now I will! π
Hollie
Your food looks really good. I wish I was able to eat more at home and cook my own food. Your power bar recipes are always good. I enjoy how chewy they are!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
Oh Britney – that takes me back! Hit Me Baby One More Time was a favorite of mine and I still have it on one of my workout playlists. I really like he idea of cooking the rice with coconut milk! Sounds delicious.
Brittany
I literally eat the same foods on rotation daily. Stick with what you know!! Those Earth Balance puffs are addicting…I could eat an entire bag.
Morgan @ Managing Mommyhood
That bowl looks good! My whole family loves spicy everything and I can’t take a single molecule of it! I’ll join your wimp Club!
Hayley @ Full of Life
I tried a smoothie like that once a couple years ago and remember loving it – then kind of forgot about them. I need to try that again…going to check out your recipe now π
Jessie @ Just Jessie
As simple as that rice meal looks, it looks so good! I was struggling last night with trying to figure out what to eat and I ended up eating a ton of random crappy food. Too bad I didn’t see this – I would’ve had all of those ingredients!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
Your dinner picture just reminded me that I need to get some oatmeal back in my life. I used to make a big batch of steel cut oats and then have it with almond butter and maple syrup. It was the most delicious thing ever.
Suzy
Hit Me Baby One More Time! Lately I’ve been into the mini M&Ms. I bought a bulk bag to use for cookies and I didn’t exaaaactly get to the cookie-making part before they disappeared. π
Juli @1000lovelthings
I made a decent effort to make more of my old recipes in the last weeks. And to an extend it worked. But then I got overly excited by new inspriation and all the good intentiones were gone. I am just easily distracted by food!
Favorite Britney song? Definitely ‘Born to make you happy’. I sing when I’m driving alone. You should see my performance. Okay, better not…. π
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
My whole diet is one big repeat lol. oatmeal, peanut butter, oatmeal, peanut butter. Throw in a smoothie bowl which is nothing more than what I already had for breakfast just blended up (with spinach though for variety lol).
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
Hey, why stop a good thing? I tend to eat repeat meals a lot as well. And breakfast for dinner? Also a yes. Eggs make an appearance in many of my meals. Good eats, Amanda! π Britney is still going strong at a show in Vegas these days, you know!
Sarah @ Sarah's on the Run
Alright. You’ve convinced me. I’m making one (or both) of those protein bars this weekend.
Gretchen
Oh man, I was a huge Britney fan! I think my favorite song by her is Toxic. Oops is such a classic though! And no need to apologize, all your food looks so great so I don’t mind seeing it again and again. Some of the recipes I missed (overnight oat smoothie…what?!) so I’m happy to seee it! Yummmm
Kate @ Kate Lives Healthy
Breakfast for dinner is always a great choice. Your rice bowl looks great. I just had some basmati rice this week after not having it in forever. I just never make it as I can’t figure out a way to cook small batches of rice π Forgot just how good it tasted. Question for you…..what protein powder do you use in your granola bars?
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
I always go for the mild salsa too! I’m not a fan of anything too spicy. And I used to read a lot more than I do now, so I’d have to say my current favorite way to wind down is to watch TV.
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
I eat breakfast foods for supper all the time too! Breakfast is my favourite so why not have it more often. Plus it’s always easier.
Jamie
I’d like to say I unwind by reading, but I totally love to become one with my couch cushion and watch really trashy, bad TV. I think because it’s so mindless, it’s just easier for me to turn my brain off haha. I’ve been eating oatmeal and nut butter (either almond or cashew) constantly these past few weeks. It just has such great staying power… oh and frozen bananas : ) Hope you have a great day!
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Not going to lie, I almost got abit TOO excited thinking you added my favourite hot chilli sauce (it looks exactly like that!) on your lunch.
Britney should throw a pie at you.
Miss Polkadot
Wait, the fact that I remember Britney’s non-scandalous good years means I’m … old?! Geeez. Moving on …
The concept of your lunch [burrito bowl] was -this- close to being mine today, too, but then I decided for something else instead because IF I’m having a burrito bowl I need to have some avocado, too. And with none on hand that was the end of my plans.
Okay, you’re going to hate me for saying this but those cheddar puffs – wish we could get them over here!! – remind me of my all-time favourite savoury snack: Erdnussflips. As in: peanut puffs. Oh yes. Maybe they should come up with an almond version ;)?
I’m better off reading to calm my mind than watch TV [I actually don’t own one] but have to admit I’ve been watching Gilmore Girls at night lately. But what can I say? I never watched all seasons before and just bit the bullet and bought the full collection.
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
Britney is the best! We wanted to see her in Vegas last summer, but she wasn’t performing the week we were there.
I can’t watch TV before bed, either. I’m usually in bed with a book 45 minutes before I want to actually sleep. If I’m up watching TV I’ll never be able to fall asleep!
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl
I am a huge fan of breakfast for dinner! Mainly eggs and GF toast with an oaty chaser π
Jen @ Bagels to Broccoli
I’m a mild salsa person, too! Michael loves medium and I can kiiiind of handle that but only it’s on a huuuge tortilla chip.
Hilary
I always seem to eat my breakfasts on repeat! Lately I have been having protein pancakes, the only variations I have been doing is the type of berries they include!
Shashi at RunninSrilankan
I think we’ve on the same wavelength – at least as far as technology is concerned! I was wishing for a scratch and taste monitor in my post yesterday too! π
I was eating oats like it I had just gone through a oat-drought, but this past week it’s been waffles! I even tried feeding my daughter waffles the other day for dinner and she just looked at me weird and said she’d rather have a salad?! Wait! What???
Now I gotta go and find some chocolate as looking at your smoothie and bites have given me a hankering…
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables
Chocolate on chocolate is allllways a good idea π I’m going to have to make a batch of those granola bars. I’ve been in the mood for a new afternoon snack lately and I think those would be perfect!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
The good days of Britney bring back so many memories! I can’t pick just one song π lately I feel like I have a bunch of foods on repeat – japanese sweet potatoes, plantains, burgers, strawberries. I go through phases with foods and then it gradually changes and I don’t even realize. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it makes a lot of sense!
Erin @ The Almond Eater
I’m also on a smoothie kick lately, especially first thing in the morning when I don’t want something toooo heavy. I’m also into the ‘throw everything into a bowl’ meals–usually they turn out well but if not, I just throw some sriracha on it and problem solved.
Aimee @I Live Healthy Today
Oh I was such a huge fan of Britney when I was a child! To the point where it was very embarrassing! Annnndd now I have ‘Oops I did it again’ stuck it my head! As always your food looks 10/10, and I agree with you, I’ve made your soft protein bars countless times now and they’re a winner! Lately I’ve been eating bananas like it’s nobodies business – I always go through phases with them and right now I want them all!
I’d like to say I prefer reading to wind down, but I just cannot seem to find a gripping book lately so TV it is ):
