There are a few things I need to get off my chest. Ahem…
Confession: As much as I love WIAW, I hate what it does to both my Bloglovin’ feed and appetite. Can we say hungry blog reading all.day.long? Yes, yes we can.
Confession: I had no idea yesterday was National Oatmeal Day — there are just way too many food “holidays” for me to keep track of. Luckily, oatmeal happens to be one of those foods that I celebrate pretty much on a daily basis, so yesterday’s breakfast of oats with yogurt, almond butter, honey, and cinnamon got me off the hook. Let’s just pretend I did it on purpose.
Confession: I haven’t been to Starbucks in well over a week. This may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but as someone who used to go every.single.day (sometimes even twice), going 7+ days without is kind of huge. I blame my [beloved] Keurig and the fact that I’ve fallen in love with homemade lattes… especially when they’re topped with cinnamon, right Cori?
Confession: I cannot be trusted around frozen bananas. I grabbed a bag to snack on while I was studying, with the intention of “just having a couple of slices,” and before I knew it, 3/4 of the bag was gone 😯 I’m pretty sure there were at least 2.5 big bananas in there, so if you stop hearing from me, it’s probably because I’ve turned into a monkey and I’m busy flinging poop around in a fit of joy.
Confession: I’m not a huge fan of pasta. In fact, prior to yesterday’s lunch, I can’t even remember the last time I had some. I know it’s a dish that makes a lot of people weak in the knees, but it’s just never done much for me. Maybe I’ve never had good pasta? Or maybe I just can’t get over my childhood belief that spaghetti noodles with butter and parmesan cheese is the best “pasta” there is. This bowl, however, had fettuccine (??) noodles, green beans, marinara sauce, and mozzarella. Edible, but again… meh.
Confession: Candy will probably always be my absolute favourite source of “quick energy.” I know, I know — blood sugar spikes and crashes and all that jazz — but cut me some slack here. I don’t do it all that often, so you better believe that when I do do it, I do enjoy it. This snickerdoodle truffle powered me through a good 2-hour home cleaning session… and then I took a 15-minute nap 😉
Confession: Yes, those are my pink PJ pants. No, I am not ashamed.
Confession: I eat standing around my kitchen counter far more often than I care to admit. I also thought that my addiction to kabocha would start to taper off by now, but… it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.
Confession: All I wanted for dinner last night was breakfast. This bowl of plain Greek yogurt topped with Kashi Cinnamon Harvest, cinnamon Puffins, banana slices, homemade applesauce, and roasted almond butter managed to hit the spot juuuuuust right.
Confession: I can’t even remember the last time I had breakfast for dinner. Who am I?!
Confession: Remember that bowl of Greek yogurt topped with honey roasted chickpeas that I showed you guys a while back? It wasn’t just an isolated incident.
. – . – . – .
Are you a fan of pasta? What kind is your favourite?
How many cups of coffee do you drink per day?
What colour are your PJ pants?
sara @ fitcupcaker
where do you get the honey roasted chickpeas?? I need some in my life asap! I cant believe I missed national oatmeal day, im such a slacker
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Mine are from Biena. I’d try making them myself, but I can never get them to come out perfectly crunchy.
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables
Your food always makes me hungry!! Especially that squash… mmmmm…. 🙂
I am not a pasta person either! We can be oddballs together!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
My my, we are so so alike! lol… I am not a fan of pasta. I never eat it at home and only order it when I am out if there is nothing else on the menu (like when I am forced to order a pasta primavera due to being a vegetarian). I can take it or leave it….I drink too many cups of coffee day and have been trying to switch some cups over to tea….and as for pj pants, I never wear them. Funny since it can get cold here in the winter, I just never liked them. I will throw on sweats to walk around in but never ever sleep with the pj pants or lounge in them.
Amanda @runtothefinish
oh man I used to eat SO MUCH cereal, it was kind of my favorite dinner ever. I have kind of stopped because i’ve been on a big veggie kick…but this makes me want it again!
Carly @ Snack Therapy
If you DO turn into a monkey, please teach your monkey self to use a video camera, and upload a video, okay? And by that logic, if I eat enough caviar and drink enough fancy champagne, do you think I’d turn into a rich person? Maybe??
If it makes you feel any better, my reader is sitting pretty at over 80 unread posts. Oh geez.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
If you DO turn into a rich person, be sure to let me know! I can’t even fathom the thought of eating caviar, but I’d be willing to give it a go if it meant oodles of money would be coming my way.
Lindsay @ Lindsay Weighs In
You’re not the only one, I’m not a huge fan of pasta either. I’ll eat it, but I never crave it. I don’t like thicker noodles (fettuccine or even spaghetti noodles!) I will eat things like angel hair or bowtie noodles though. With all that being said, I LOVE lasagna. I’m a weird bird.
dixya| food, pleasure, and health
I cant keep track of these holidays anymore . I am a huge pasta lover, anything with noodles, red sauce and cheese – I am sold.
Tamara
I love pasta! All kinds, really, but angel hair is probably my fave.
Hmm, I usually have 0-2 coffee drinks per day. I need to get some beans and bust out my French press; buying coffee elsewhere is too expensive! Decaf for me, though… I’ve been off caffeine (except for the trace amounts in decaf) since mid-2011!
Amy @ The Little Honey Bee
I totally agree about all these food holidays! And I clicked over to the Wikipedia page… some are hilarious. I used to be a total pasta lover but now I rarely eat it (read: can’t remember the last time I had a bowl) because I just feel unsatisfied. However, the BEST pasta is in Italy. Or homemade.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I definitely wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to try authentic Italian pasta! And don’t forget that today is National Candy Corn Day 😉
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
I seriously can’t get over how amazing those truffles look! Soo soo good! I’ve always been big pasta fan. Put a bowl of ravioli in front of me and it will be gone in 5 seconds flat. Now that I’m vegan and try to stay away from white pasta, I find I don’t eat as much of it anymore. When I do eat it I like to have brown rice or quinoa pasta.. delish!
Laura @losingrace
Frozen bananas sound amazing. I don’t think I would have the control to just eat a ‘few’.
I drink anywhere from 1-5 cups (large cups) of coffee a day. Yes I am addicted. No I don’t care. 🙂
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food
Yesterday was also national cat day, for anyone who cares (which I do). I keep a pot of coffee in my office at work and will usually drink 2 cups a day, 3 if it’s one of “those” days! Oh I’m one of those people with pasta- I could seriously eat it every day!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I would care if I had a cat, which I wish I did, but my pesky allergies don’t allow for it 🙁
Liz
Haha I can’t believe you don’t love pasta! But I think that Greek yogurt chickpea thing you’ve got going on sounds good! I guess it’s sort of like a falafel/Tzaiki sort of thingl!
Karen
Pasta has never done it for me either! I mean, I’ll eat it if I go to someone’s house and that’s what they make for dinner. However, I never buy it or make it for myself or order it at a restaurant. Rice is more my carb of choice 🙂
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
Growing up in an Italian family, we ate a lot of pasta! I use to always love it, but lately I’m not digging it that much anymore either. I much prefer brown rice, sweet potatoes or quinoa instead. I find them to be much more satisfying than pasta.
I don’t drink coffee. It’s just not my thing, but I do drink tea.
My PJ bottoms are light pink!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
I’m not a huge pasta person either! Every once in awhile I think it sounds good, but I’d much rather have cheesy Mexican food or pizza.
I’m considering getting a Keurig, but I’ve heard mixed things about them… Mostly how they are “a waste of money”. Thoughts on that? What kind do you have?
The number of cups of coffee I drink are dependent on Hunter’s sleeping the night before. 😉 If he sleeps well, I typically just have one big mug (= 2 “cups”), but if he sleeps terrible, I drink up to three of those big mugs!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I went back and forth on getting another Keurig after my first one bit the dust, and I have to say that I’m SO happy with my decision. They can definitely be a bit pricey if you’re always buying fancy Kcups, but you can find some really good deals online, OR you can buy the re-usable filter insert and use your own grinds for a much less expensive cup. What I love most about it is that it makes the perfect amount and there’s minimal clean up involved. I even got my parents on board, and they’re loving theirs as well. And I have the Platinum edition, mostly because I wanted the 12.5 oz cup size.
Lucie
I am so jealous of your kabocha! I can ot find any lately and it’s driving my crazeeeee! my orange teint is slowly flaking – not acceptable. You know I still don’t drink coffee, but I found that homemade latte teas are my new addiction, especially with full fat coconut milk and a drop of stevia. SO GOOD! Of course even better with Canada’s Davids Tea……:-)
I wear tight shorts at night, I think 3/4 of them are pink!
Kat
Oh my gosh blog reading is so bad for my appetite. I typically do it first thing in the morning and then end up drooling over so many different foods that when it comes time to make breakfast I literally stand in the kitchen for half an hour trying to figure out what I want. Cause seriously, now you have me wanting some crunchy cinnamon chickpeas. What the heck????!!!!!
How have you been making your lattes? Im just saying…they must be pretty amazeballs if they have been keeping you away from your beloved Starbucks!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve just been brewing up a cup of coffee in the Keurig, frothing up some almond milk, and scooping the foam into my coffee. It’s nothing fancy, but I think that’s what I love most about it — I’m a sucker for the taste of strong coffee with just a hint of foam.
Alex @ Kenzie Life
I’m not the biggest fan of pasta either but I do love pasta salads 🙂 And this spinach ravioli with vodka sauce that I get at this Italian restaurant nearby every once in a great while. It’s amazing! No Starbucks in a week?! Wow, that’s great advertising for your Keurig 😉 There’s a Celestial Seasonings cafe at my school and they have almost every kind of tea. When I see the sugar cookie sleigh ride I think of you!
Michelle @ Esculent Dreams
Love your confessions! Mine would actually be very similar… 😉 I’ll have to give frozen bananas another shot. I’ve been trying to cut down my caffeine intake so it’s about 1 cup, 2-3 times each week, instead of the 1-2 cups a day from before. Happy WIAW!
Shashi @ http://runninsrilankan.com
You had me L-ingOL at this ” This snickerdoodle truffle powered me through a good 2-hour home cleaning session… and then I took a 15-minute nap” haha – nothing like a nap to taper off a sugar high! nice jammies lady!I have some purple and green ones that are my fav!
I didn’t know it was oatmeal day yesterday either – but I celebrated anyway – think I will celebrate yesterdays significance today for lunch too 😉 Breakfast anytime of the day is hard to resist!
Nah – never been big on pasta – but, like you, I feel it might be just cos I haven’t had a really good version. the only time I have frozen banana slices is when I was dipping them in chocolate – never had them plain – but now feel I must!
I drink way too much coffee in a day – maybe 4/5/6/7 cups – if they invented a coffee IV -I would purchase them by the dozen!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Shashi — you’re a genius! Oatmeal for lunch actually sounds like a pretty brilliant idea today. But that might just be because it’s still pitch black outside and I’m craving some comfort. Hope you’re having a great day so far!
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Pasta, heck to the yes! But definitely not the healthy, whole wheat stuff… Nope. Gotta have the white flour covered in lotsa sauce and cheese 😉
Melissa
Frozen bananas are the best! An ideal sweet treat. Oh wow, I usually have a ton of coffee throughout the day, so probably around 5 or so. Love my coffee!
Miss Polkadot
You an me both: we don’t need National [or International for me] Oatmeal Day to celebrate our addiction – though I think pretty much every blogger celebrates it daily.
Pasta … I wish I liked it more because saying “… and then I plopped down on the couch with a big bowl of pasta” sounds so good and comforting. However, I -do- like it at times. Especially when we’re talking fresh pasta from Vapiano or my uncle’s amazing cross-cultural tagliatelle dish. I have yet to recreate it because I keep forgetting about the recipe but also as – in my opinion – pasta is a dish to be eaten with company. Weird?
I want your PJ pants! Mine are just … grey. At least they’re comfy but I definitely need to keep looking for some nicer colours – or maybe I’m just counteracting my bright daytime outfits :)?
I like the thought that I’m no longer alone on my chickpeas-in-yogurt-mess ways – isn’t the added texture just great?!
Happy Wednesday, Amanda!
Eating 4 Balance
Well, I like pasta a lot, but it’s not something that I really love. I have a friend who throughout the entire time that I knew her (6th-12th grade?… now college) and she brought cold pasta every day to lunch. When we go over to her house? Spaghetti. Pasta salad. I think she LOVES her pasta. Haha.
Fettucine alfredo is the best there is though. Especially from Fazoli’s. Or this one kind of frozen dinner pasta that Stouffers makes. It’s a chicken alfredo with broccoli and all sorts of amazingness: http://www.stouffers.com/products/detail.aspx?id=147&c=65
I get in the bad habit of standing around and snacking sometimes too. Well, it’s not necessarily a “bad” habit for everyone, but it is for me. It wreaks havok on my stomach and all that squash (which is what I normally end up snacking on) is no bueno.
Most of my pj pants are adidas and dark blue, inherited from my brother who outgrew them a few years ago. Never thought it would work that way, but they’re so nice! I also have a pink pair, and just got a pair that has cereal characters all over them 🙂 Oh, and I think I may have a cupcake pair too.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Cereal characters and cupcakes?! Squee! I almost always get PJ’s for Christmas, so I’m thinking that I’ll have to ask for some cutesy ones this year. Would MLP be too much? 😉
Cat
Pasta is so overrated! (a ridiculous statement, but true) Some shapes are better than others (penne is deadly – the amount of times I’ve bit into those cursed little tubes containing boiling sauce that burns my tongue..) That said, I was tempted to buy some chocolate pasta (I know) at an italian deli recently. Because we know cocoa makes everything better 😉
Hollie
I agree with all the food holidays. Honestly I’m pretty much over it and it seems so silly for them to exist. That’s just my personal opinion though.
I’m actually on no full leaded coffee right now, so I completely understand that. I’m also not a big pasta fan myself. It’s hard going into carb loading but ill just eat rice and pancakes. Ha.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yours and mine both. I’m going against the grain and not celebrating National Candy Corn Day… which is today’s food of the day.
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
Oh everything looks good! I didn’t know it was oatmeal day until I started reading blogs yesterday. The pasta looks good, I don’t eat pasta very often. It’s not that I don’t like it, its just not one of my favorites.
Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate
I have been obsessed with Kashi Cinnamon Harvest cereal lately…especially when dipped in nut butter… yum!!
Ang @ Nutty for Life
I used to be a fettuccine alfredo fiend. Like any time my family went out to dinner I would get it. That is, until I learned how fattening it was for you! After a little lesson in moderation I changed my ordering habits. I still love it, but I just don’t get it all the time now, and actually that makes it more special when I do! And my PJ pants are a nice lil plaid blend of blue, pink, green, teal and navy, from Aerie!
Kim
I do love pasta – all kinds!!!
But no coffee for me – I like hot cider or hot chai!
Ashley {Whole Foods New Body}
It is funny….my bag of frozen bananas looks just like yours and I have been known to go overboard with snacking on them too! I also eat standing up at the counter a lot. I know it isn’t a good thing but most days I am lucky to eat and sometimes I even hide so my kids can’t see me and start harassing me for bites. Pretty sad…huh?? I usually drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day. I couldn’t probably drink more than that but I try to stop at 3! 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s crazy because I have a way easier time stopping myself from eating so many bananas when they’re fresh, but frozen is a whooooole other story — I think it’s the deliciously creamy texture. And I could probably drink coffee all day long as well… I just try to limit myself for the sake of my stomach.
Sarah @pickyrunner
I’m a huge pasta fan. I guess it’s because I grew up eating it almost every night so it wasn’t sw big rest. It was just part of my meal. Whenever I go home I eat pasta but it usually is a side with a meat and vegetable. So I stick with plain pasta and butter I guess! unless I’m having baked ziti at the takeout pasta place across the street. That stuff is my vice. My mouth is watering over those truffles which must mean its time for breakfast. I don’t know how your food always photographs so perfectly!
Cori
So I looked up the various “holidays” out there the other day and it is ridiculous. Not even borderline ridiculous its full force ridiculous.
P.s. cinnamon in my coffee all day long. 🙂
Jo @ Living Mint Green
Haha frozen bananas are the best! I’m sure the grocery store employees must think I’m some weird raw/vegan/fruitarian because I stock up on at least 4-5 bundles at a time, so I always have smoothie ingredients.
I’m with ya on the pasta thing. If it’s from a box – GROSS. However, fresh pasta made by a lovely Italian man (I met in him Hawaii)in his Italian restaurant = MIND BLOWING. Oh.my.goodness. I can’t even.
Heather @fitncookies
Whoa, too much to comment on! I agree with WIAW on my newsfeed. It takes over and I stare at delicious treats (uhm, your newest creation) all day long. I love that you have pink PJ pants, but don’t like that you aren’t a fan of pasta! We can still be friends, though. I am a huge pasta lover. I prefer it plain 🙂 I craved breakfast last night and ended my night witha huge bowl of Frosted Flakes. It was just as delicious as I hoped it would be! These National Holidays need to be discussed the day ebfore. I’m always one day late to the bandwagon. Would you believe yesterday was one of the only days in months I haven’t had oatmeal?! What the heck! haha
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
so after that photo i took of my trash can filled with starbucks cups a few weeks back, i sorta had a starbucks intervention with myself and started using my keurig instead- and i have to say – ive been LOVING it. i forgot how much i love coffee with just a splash of cream. its so delicious. now that im working again, and theres a starbucks directly across the street from my office, i tend to run over mid-morning, but not EVERY day. sometimes i just go to the deli and get another cup with cream. ahh the times, they are a changin 🙂 and pasta = favorite food. i just love the stuff
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m the same way when it comes to forgetting that I love something until I randomly try it again and then wonder why the heck I didn’t do it sooner. And what Kcups have you been loving? Or are you just using regular coffee in the little filter thing?
Khushboo
Confession: I hate and love to read your blog…hate because it makes me hangry ;). I’m currently eating a very Amanda-esque snack: rice cakes topped with nut butter & applesauce! I’m with you on frozen bananas- they are my current obsession. Love the look of your dinner. I am one of those people who gets weak in the knees with pasta IF it’s smothered in marinara sauce- comfort food at its finest for me :-)! Time for my afternoon cup of Java- I’m currently averaging to about 3 cups a day…need to reduce that to 2!!
Jessie
Thank you for reminding me just how delicious big ole greek yogurt & cereal bowls are. I’m thinking I’ll be having one of those this evening for dessert.. with an added baked sweet potato =) Eh I can’t wait! You just made my day my lovely friend!
Confession: I almost never wear pants to bed. No No No, i don’t go naked.. I just wear shorts. Too hot for pants.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I usually sleep in shorts, but I bum around my house in PJ pants . Remember that I’m in Canada and pretty much perpetually cold 😉
Ksenija @ With An Open Mind
Oh girl, I can imagine you standing at the kitchen counter right now secretly savoring roasted kabocha. It makes me giggle a bit and than again remembers me of snacking on half of my roasted butternut before I even managed to put my lunch together. Roasted pumpkin is just way to addictive – everything pumpkin actually is 😉 . And I really need to know your secret on studying at home. I don’t get anything done when I am in my flat – that’s why I am sitting at Starbucks again now.
