Sitting. Thinking. Thinking. Thi… Going!
Yesterday was a sad day. Let us observe a moment of silence to mourn the loss of a dear, sweet friend…
The last melon slice (brownie points if you know where the melon reference is from).
We were very close, he and I, and I loved him dearly. So much so that I could have just eaten him right up… which may or may not have contributed to his untimely demise. But I shall remember him fondly, and he will be missed; especially because his loss means that I now have to eat actual legitimate meals. Sigh. Such is life… it’s hard sometimes.
And what makes it even harder? The fact that I haven’t gone grocery shopping in about a week and I’m seriously running out of things to eat. I wanted to empty out my fridge as much as possible before I leave to Hawaii on Friday afternoon, but I didn’t count on it happening three days early. Either I miscalculated or I eat more than I thought I did 😯 Whatever the case, please excuse enjoy this week’s WIAW… It’s not the healthiest, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t tasty.
Thankfully, breakfasts have been pretty much the same…
Plain Greek yogurt – banana – blueberries – Kashi Cinnamon Harvest – roasted almond butter.
I can get by without a lot of foods, but I draw the line at cereal, bananas, almond butter, and Greek yogurt. As long as I have those four things I’m fine, and if I run out of even one of them? I make emergency grocery runs. No joke. If my banana supply drops below three, I start to panic a little… which is probably why it’s the only fruit (aside from frozen blueberries) that I currently have in my possession… which is probably also why I’ve been grabbing one to snack on multiple times a day…
And I’d like to say the same thing about my cereal snacks…
… buuuut I think it’s kind of obvious by now that I snack on cereal regardless of the availability of other food… I just love it that much. And speaking of other food, don’t worry – I’ve been eating some of that too, even if it has been coming from boxes 😕 I had some Annie’s mac and cheese for lunch the other day…
And Amy helped me out for dinner with one of her pizzas…
Now, before you go thinking that I don’t eat anything fresh, I’ll have you know that I tossed a salad (get it? tossed a salad!? No? aww…) somewhere in there for good measure…
… treated my belly to some good bacteria…
… had some fruit [preparation] in my yogurt…
… and I’m pretty sure that my cappuccino had some antioxidants in it too…
… even though I could do without the Winter Wonderland in the background. 2 more days, Amanda… 2 more days until Hawaii. Which also means 2 more days of trying to scrounge up meals in my severely depleted kitchen. I think I have a few eggs left… some frozen waffles… a can or two of soup… I should be okay 😯
. – . – . – .
What’s one of your absolute favorite meals? Mac and cheese is definitely one of mine.
Do you like kombucha? What’s your favorite flavor? Grape! Although, to be honest, they all taste pretty similar.
What pizza toppings do you NOT like? I’m not big on ham and pineapple, and I’ll always pick off olives.
Devon @ Health in Equilibrium
It’s always sad when the last slice of something delicious goes. Annie and Amy are two of my favourite ladies. I used to LOVE the Amy’s pizza pockets and spinach and feta pockets, it has been WAY too long since I had one.
Laura Agar Wilson (@lauraagarwilson)
I wish we could get kombucha in the UK, I keep thinking about buying a scooby and making my own!
Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes
I’m not sure if I can have just one favourite meal- it’s such a tough choice! I just love a lot of different things I guess.
Lauren
Please take me to Hawaii with you. I can get a wheel chair and wheel around with you all day! We can go to amusement parks and get first in line!!! Haha! I hate running out of food or getting dangerously low; however, it does expand your possibilities of eating different things. We were snowed in (Well, kinda) this winter and I was forced to eat things sitting in my pantry for months. Turns out, I enjoyed them. Never would have known though haha!
Robyn
Wow your breakfast bowl looks amazing! I have been eating a lot of greek yogurt with fruit bowls lately and yours puts mine to shame 🙂 I will have to try to use your ideas as inspiration.
Glad I found your blog!

Please don’t hate me, but I can’t stand mac and cheese! One of my favorite meals though is Mom’s homemade “rosol” (chicken noodle soup). She makes her own noodles for it because store-bought change the flavor of the soup! And it’s just delicious. I can easily eat 2 or 3 helpings 🙂
Never tried kombucha! I just assume I wouldn’t like it but… it also intimidates me for some reason!
And I don’t like mushrooms on my pizza! Or the kind of cheese that ends up choking you when you try to swallow… I think it’s typically just mozzarella, but man, sometimes I just can’t chew the stuff properly! lol. I love pretty much any topping though…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Mmm rosol. My mom makes a pretty fantastic one as well, although she doesn’t make her own noodles. I’m going to have to inform her that your mom does, and encourage her to step up her game 😉
Chelsie S
Wait, so you’re heading to Hawaii, but you don’t like Hawaiian pizza?! Tragedy! The horror! Let’s hope they have other options down there to keep you going!! 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Welllllll, in my defence, I have an allergy to pineapple, so I kind of have an excuse 😛
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
Aaaaaand now I want mac’n’cheese.
I really hate olives & mushrooms on pizza. Or on anything, to be honest.
One of my favorite meals: butternut squash risotto. Or any kind of risotto. Mm.
Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness
I’ve never tried grape kombucha. Sounds amazing though! My favorite is papaya or gingerade. And now I want one lol! I am set too so long as I have greek yogurt, cereal, and apples! Definitely my favorites!
Sonia the Mexigarian
I love kombucha. I tend to enjoy the cranberry one, but do like cherry and chia ones 🙂 My favorite meal would have to simply be Mexican rice, beans and tortillas with some cheese and eggs. Maybe throw in some greens of some sort (brussel sprouts, asparagus or leafy ones). Yeah. My favorite meal. I love mushrooms and olives on my pizza. I used to be a pepperoni girl but my stomach doesn’t like meat even if it tastes so good. ack. Funny, I always order ham and pineapple for the husband since it’s his favorite. and my half of the pizza is my favorite toppings.
Meghan @ After the Ivy League
Hard boiled eggs in a salad sound great right now, I don’t know why I always forget about them! I should boil up a batch one of these days. And mmm mac and cheese! Delicious.
Brittany
I love emptying my fridge before I buy new food, but I don’t go on vacations haha. I just like to use everything before I buy more! These eats look great! I loved Kombucha for so long, but have been skunked one too many times and bought like 5 that were flat. My love faded for them. I do like other Kombucha brands though.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
I do not know how you always manage to make your breakfast bowls of cereal look so fantastic, but they seriously look amazing! You make cereal look GOOD! 🙂
LOVE Annie’s Mac & Cheese!! Mac and cheese is definitely a favorite of mine, but since it is not the healthiest I only try to eat it on occasion. I feel pretty good about eating Annie’s brand, though! How is Amy’s pizza? I am usually pretty impressed with her frozen meals.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Make cereal look good? But… but… it is good! 😥 And Amy’s pizzas are actually really great for a frozen pizza. I keep one or two in my freezer in case of emergencies, and they never disappoint!
Sabrina @ Nutritiously Sweet
That salad looks delicious! I haven’t had one in a while. My favorite meal. Does chocolate mousse count lol? Ok, ok. A good ole Angus burger with roasted veggies is always my go to meal!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Anything with chocolate always counts 😉
Katie @ KatieEnPursuit
I’m deeply saddened by your loss! I hope some more banana bread fills the void ASAP! I love lasagna as a comfort meal, the real stuff, no “light” or “no carb”! I tried the “Lavender No. 3” kombucha the other night & loved it! Pizza toppings = the more the better (as long as it’s not sausage, the texture skeeves me out!) Happy Wednesday!
Sara @ fitcupcaker
Can I please go with you!? I need a vacation bad! My family is all about cereal and if there is none in the house the whole world ends! I have to stock up and have like 5 boxes in the house to make them happy! PLus I love it too!
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
I’ve had Annie’s mac and cheese once a super long time ago. It def. looks better than Kraft from your pictures. I’ve heard so much about kombucha, but have never actually tried it. What would you say it tastes like?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Uhhhm. Well, there’s really no way to describe it without it sounding completely disgusting but… it tastes like fizzy, fruity, vinegar. It’s really actually quite delicious, but because it’s fermented, there’s definitely a slight hint of vinegary-ness.
Nicole @ Fruit 'N' Fitness
I don’t like ham or pineapple on pizza. My favorite pizza toppings are sun dried tomatoes, pesto, olives, and spinach!
Lift, Sleep, Eat
I really want to try this kombucha – definitely gonna see if i can find some when i come over to the U.S soon!
I hate pineapple on my pizza too :/..thats about it to be honest; im quite happy with anything else – i love loads of toppings!
Alex @ therunwithin
cleaning out the fridge is always good and bad. sure it feels nice to come back and fully restock but those days you are living off of tuna and eggs is never fun. but hey, with hawaii on your horizon there is nothing to be weary of!
Khushboo
Considering you’re nearing your trip and clearing out your fridge, I think you did more than well with your meals! Everything looks delicious and sometimes the random meals always end up being the best. Are you a fan of the sweet ‘n’ salty combos? If so, top those waffles with jam and then poached eggs…..just trust me on this ☺!
And just for the record, Annie looks like such a great friend- she definitely sounds like a keeper ;)!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Definitely love the sweet and salty combo! I’ve had eggs with jam before, but never when a waffle was involved. Sounds genius
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
My favorite meal is anything that involves spinach and mushrooms. Stuffed portabello mushrooms are my favorite 😀 I don’t like any meat toppings on my pizza (for the obvious reason of me being a vegetarian), but I typically like any vegetable toppings!
Thais @ Eats n Miles
Pasta is one of my favorite meals!! If I could, I would eat it everyday. As for pizza toppings, I couldn´t say since I don´t like cheese so I don´t eat pizza (don´t kill me!)
Your eats look great, especially your cereal bowls- YUM! Have a great time in Hawai! Take lots of pics!
Jillian R
Amy’s makes cheese-less pizza and soy cheese pizza! I know it sounds weird, but they’re SUPER yummy!
Caitlin
Capps def have antioxidants 😉 and i can’t stand fruit on any pizza…always enjoy plain cheese or some veggies and meat. You are going to have so much fun on the islands!! Pumped for you girl 🙂
Molly@This Life Is Sparkling
I am the same way about bananas. I eat at least one everyday and pretty much have to have one with breakfast. My mom has caught on to this so she usually makes sure that we always have them! I’m so excited that your going to Hawaii! Feel free to bring some warmth back with you 😉
Kate @ Quarter Century Southern Living
Mac & Cheese is so good! I have officially decided that I can longer read your posts when I am hungry because I want to eat everything off the page! I am not kidding, I may dream about chocolate chip banana bread tonight 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha! I know what you mean… Reading blogs should be lumped in alongside grocery shopping when it comes to things you shouldn’t do when you’re hungry…
molly @ heart, sole & cereal
i’m the same way when i’m about to go out of town. i’ll either scrounge up the measliest meals or i’ll eat HUGE meals in an attempt to get rid of extra things i have that are going to go bad. obviously i prefer the latter. and these meals don’t look like you’re emptying the fridge at all – they look perfectly acceptable, particularly the amy’s pizza. yum.
Robyn @thereallife_rd
pasta and marinara is one of my favorites! so simple, yet so satisfying
and the synergy are my favorite kombucha! the green machine….not so much, it smelled like seaweed or some other funk
I could eat anything on pizza except seafood- like shrimp…or warm avocado, ew. I’ll take my avocado cold, preferably in guac form with a whole lotaa salty chips 🙂
Have a fabulous time in Hawaii!!
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian
I absolutely love mac, and cheese and I don’t even care how unhealthy it is I love it so much. I can’t believe you’re going to Hawaii! I would kill for a vacation right now. Have fun!
Carly @ Snack Therapy
I hate it when I eat my food friends. Sad stuff right there. And I’m still planning on accompanying you to Hawaii in your suitcase, so make room.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Like I said, I’m packing light 😉
Parita
Doctored up Annie’s mac n’ cheese is my go to meal when I don’t have time to make anything too involved. YUM! And I don’t like mushrooms on my pizza, especially buttom mushroom. EWW!
Khushboo
Whaaaaat! I’m not sure we can be friends anymore…actually we’d probably be better friends because I’ll happily take your share of mushrooms :)!
Miss Polkadot
Well, if that’s what empty-out-the-fridge days look like for you I’d swap any day ;). For me, it’s usually all kinds random tidbits that don’t make proper dishes and I never have any frozen meals on hand – blame the tiny icebox I have :(.
I’m sorry for your loss ;). How about buying some green bananas now so you’ll return to perfectly ripe ones once you return? Nothing better than whipping up a loaf to feel truly home again right there, huh?
One of my favourite meals? Difficult … But right now I’d go with Semmelknödel because they’re nothing but comfort in a dish and always remind me of home.
Kendra
I love the Ice Age “last melon” reference–that is an awesome movie!!:) Our family goes through bananas super fast as well; I usually don’t eat them plain, but often put them in smoothies or oatmeal. And I agree that almond butter is an essential; we usually stock up on the big Maranatha jars from Costco, since they are cheapest there. I love kombucha as well, though I haven’t tried that particular flavor yet. Some of my favorite flavors are the Gingerade, Passionberry Bliss, and Cranberry. They do tend to be pricey, but my dad buys them for me occasionally, even though I never ask him to:) Your Hawaii trip sound like it will be a lot of fun; I have always wanted to go there someday…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Squee! You got the reference 😀 It’s definitely an awesome movie, and I end up quoting that line more times than I care to admit… Sweet of your dad to buy you ‘bucha 🙂 Dads are pretty darn great.
[email protected].
I do not like olives on my pizza. I just don’t like olives in general. But everything else is game!
I think perogies have to go on my list – as well as pizza, lasagna and fish and chips!
whiness
Mac’n’cheese <3 I absolutely love that dish. I don't care if it's healthy or not. I always say that I eat much more healthy than most people and I shouldn't worry if I sometimes want to eat something like that. So… mac'n'cheese fans, yay for us! 😉
Well, apart from that, I love pancakes, crepes (especially these ones with mushrooms, leek and cheese), quesadillas, spaghetti Alfredo/Carbonara, pierogi ruskie and… ohh, okay, it's too much right now.
I definitely don't like pineapple as a pizza topping. I don't really like salami, sausage etc. My favourite pizza toppings are tuna, mushrooms, onion, sweetcorn and cheese.
Lucie
Ooooh, if we only had Kombucha here!! I can’t find it and all the bloggers are praying about it. Well, I am pretty jealous of your trip to Hawaii, but since I booked a trip to NYC and Boston for June I can live with that 🙂 Really, I am so happy for you that you get some sun.
I hate salami on a Pizza. And anchovies. Ugh, only the thought about makes me feel ick.
But one of my absolute favorite meal is Mom’c chocolate cake. Oh, right, that’s not a meal. mmk, then I say Chicken-Sweet-Potato-Casserole or Pizza with smoked ham and rucola.
Lisa
Man, the last slice is so bitter sweet.
I think you still made some pretty decent meals, considering you haven’t been shopping.
I used to really love kombucha, but now I’m having weird reactions to vinegar. So odd.
Eee…I’ve actually never tried the Annie’s mac and cheese. Believe it or not, but I’ve never like boxed mac and cheese. Something about the powdered cheese.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Kombucha has vinegar?! Lies! I might have to look into vinegar myself, though, because I’ve noticed the strange rash I have on my face getting a little worse since I started eating more ketchup/mustard/salsa. Oh body… why… WHY!
Sarah
Hey Amanda! I’ve been reading your blog ever since the seek days and love every post 🙂 Have you thought that the rash might be from cinnamon? One of my coworker’s son is sensitive to cinnamon and gets red bumps all around his mouth whenever he eats it. I know that would be awful for you if it were true, but it might be something to consider!
<3
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Eeek! That really would be awful, but I’m willing to give anything a shot at this point. Thanks for the tip, Sarah! I’ll cut out the cinnamon for a while and see if it helps.
jodie
There’s no vinegar IN kombucha. If you let kombucha brew for a really long time, rumor has it, it turns into vinegar.
Lauren @ Eat Like An Elephant
Amy and Annie are good friends of mine too, just the gluten free versions 🙂 And I confess: I’ve never tried kombucha…I just pass by every time I see it…I need to try it and see what everyone is raving about!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Never tried kombucha! I’m curious about it, but the price always scares me way. I’m sure I’ll try it eventually though!
And I love, love Annie’s Mac and Cheese. Especially if I have chopped hot dogs in my possession as well.
I hate pepperoni. It isn’t even an it’s-not-healthy-thing, I just think it’s gross.
And if we ever shared a pizza, I think we’d have to get 2…Hawaiian is my absolutely favourite when it comes to pizza.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh that reminds me! I know you’ve kind of been dealing with some stomach woes, and I just wanted to tell you that drinking kombucha on a regular basis has seriously done wonders for mine. It’s a pretty good source of probiotics, so it might be worth looking into!
As for the Hawaiian pizzas… I’m allergic to pineapple, so that might be where some of my bias comes from 😛
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Ok awesome, that’s more motivation for me to try it! Might swing by the health food store this weekend…
Sarah @PickyRunner
I love Annie’s and Amy’s pizza. Basically those are meals I eat on a regular basis. Sometimes I’ll actually cook something (like GASP, grilled chicken) but I’d much rather stick to little kid foods. Stop tempting me with this Hawaii talk. Seriously, stop!
