Guys… I think I can top my corny greeting from yesterday’s post. Ready for this? Here we go:
Hip, hip hooray! It’s What I Ate Wednesday!
Ohhhh it makes me cringe; and I can’t even blame hunger and a lack of food for this morning’s corniness since I’m kind of in the middle of eating breakfast as we speak. No, instead I’m going to blame a lack of sleep…
Are we Twitter friends yet?
Today started out super early for me. In fact, the past 3 days have. I didn’t exactly have any reason to be up at 5 AM, but there I was – wide awake at the crack of dawn and unable to get back to sleep. A normal person probably would have stayed in bed, hopped on the computer to read some blogs, or gotten a workout in, but me? I decided that 5:30 AM on a Wednesday morning would be the perfect time to make some homemade applesauce; so that’s exactly what I did…
Can I just say that my fine motor skills are a little rusty at 5:30 in the morning? I must have dropped those darn apples at least half a dozen times, and I’m considering myself extremely lucky to still have all my digits attached. But it was more than worth it and made this morning’s breakfast that much better…
Plain Greek yogurt, banana, Kashi Cinnamon Harvest, Puffins, and roasted almond butter.
I’ve been just a tad obsessed with apples lately. Let’s use yesterday’s eats as an example. I already showed you my breakfast…
… which was [oddly] apple-less; but it wasn’t long before the forbidden fruit began calling to me. Mid-morning, I dug into these Barefruit apple chips.
I can’t even tell you guys how much I love these things. I’m not a fan of dried apples in general because I don’t like their spongey/gummy texture, but these chips are wonderfully crunchy just the way chips should be.
I would have loved to dip them in some coconut Oikos like I did last week, but there was none in arm’s reach. I tell ya… I have it rough 😉 Insert a few boring uneventful hours of work, and I was more than ready for lunch…
Ezekiel English muffin, half with cream cheese and jam, other half with avocado.
Lunches have been my least favorite meal of the day lately. I have no idea why, but I just haven’t felt inspired to make anything creative, and since I don’t really do a lot of cooking, I don’t exactly have any leftovers to pack for the next day. Might be something to look into, but until then I’ll make lunches a little bit better by making sure to always include something like this…
Homemade applesauce with sliced banana and chocolate chips. I always thought the combination of apples and chocolate was a little strange, but I have to admit that I’m definitely a fan. Then again, when is adding chocolate ever a bad idea? The only answer to that question is: never… which is exactly why I decided to enjoy some more as part 1 of my afternoon snack…
Mini Eggs are, hands down, my favorite Easter candy ever, and arguably one of my favorite things about spring. I remember buying enough baggies to last me a good six months back when they only came out around this time of the year, but thankfully someone smartened up and made them available pretty much year round. Part two of snacking included the customary cappuccino…
Oddly enough, my appetite was basically non-existent when I got home last night, so I put off making dinner and went for a quick 32:18 minute treadmill walk instead. Why 32:18? Because that’s how long it took me to finish the remainder of the Game of Thrones episode that I started watching earlier in the day. After that, the good old appetite kind of decided to kick in, but nothing really sounded appealing. Enter breakfast for dinner…
Puffins (cinnamon and plain), blueberries, Enjoy Life trail mix, roasted almond butter. Milk added post-shot.
… aaaaaand again before bed…
I look back at yesterday’s eats and can’t help but feel a little proud of how far I’ve come. Sure, to the average person my diet might not look all that healthy sometimes, what with all the cereal and sweets and the lack of veggies; but it’s something that I never would have been able to do back when I was sick, so the fact that I can do it now makes me a happy camper. Besides, days like today are usually followed by days where all I want is chicken, avocados, and veggies, so I figure it all balances out in the end anyways
Happy Wednesday!
. – . – . – .
What were you doing at 5:30 this morning?
What’s your least favorite meal of the day? (I’m assuming that breakfast is everyone’s favourite 😉 )
What’s one thing that always sounds good even when your appetite is a bit off?
Sara @ fitcupcaker
DAAANG I love your eats– cereal for dinner, thats my girl!! Those mini eggs are by far my favorite Easter candy but I havent bought any yet! Im trying to wait to indulge 🙂 But now I want to go get some asap!
lindsay
i don’t even know what day it is. haha, so yes, i feel ya on the sleep! but can you come feed me now? I have no groceries. I could use those combos! YUM!
p.s
next time, we hawaii 5 it together!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ll come bearing fresh applesauce and coffee, and we can go from there 🙂 Hawaii. Can you believe I’m already planning my next visit?
Picky Nicky
yessss those eggs are like giant smarties 🙂 I love them!
Meghan @ After the Ivy League
Totally agree that it all balances out in the end, you have nothing to worry about, eat all the cereal you want! I tried desperately to no avail to find the coconut yogurt you talked about at the grocery store this week…wahhh I wanna try it! I’ll have to keep searching…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Maybe it’s a Canadian thing 🙁 BUT! I’ve seen some American bloggers with a toasted coconut and vanilla Oikos, so maybe you can find that one!
kris
Happy Wednesday! Looks like a faabulous day of eats ya got there!
5:30 am this morning (and just about every other morning) I was probably in the deepest of my sleep. And I’d say my least favorite meal of the day is…well, I wouldn’t consider it my least favorite, but if I had to choose I’d say lunch. Since thats the meal I tend to put the least effort into.
Can you believe the first time I tried cadbury mini eggs was two weeks ago? I’m glad I finally tried them because they really are quiite delish!
Ashley@ Beautiful Bliss
Ahhh I’m glad I wasn’t the only one up at 5:30! I don’t usually wake up that early, but I decided I’d give a morning spin class a try. Afterwards, I could agree with you on the fine motor skills not being too great that early!
All your meals look soooo yummy! You can never go wrong with cereal and yogurt. I’ve got a sweet tooth like nobody’s business, so thats what I crave most often!
Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny
I was fast asleep at 5:30 am – couldn’t force myself to get up before 8, so I made today a “rest” day! I’m addicted to Game of Thrones – I can’t wait until Sunday.
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
I actually woke up at 530 am because my bladder was exploding… TMI? haha. I fell back asleep but then woke up less than an hour later… I would totally make homemade applesauce that early 🙂 Breakfast for dinner is always a win!
Sara @my less serious life
haha wow that is a lot of cereal in one day – love it! wait i’m totally having a smoothie topped with cereal for lunch right now after cereal for breakfast. LOVE! ps i tried applesauce + yogurt the other day and it was delicious! inspired by you. also tried applesauce + cottage cheese and it was equally delicious…
Miss Polkadot
If there’s one thing I can tell you for sure it’s what I did at 5:30 this morning: Sleep :D. Being quite the night owl I can’t imagine getting up at such an early time regularly. On special occasions maybe but every day? Crazy though I can’t deny a little jealousy for your morning productivity.
Lunch likely is my least favourite meal, too. Simply because I can never decide what I want and more often than not end up eating the same dish for days. Admittedly, though, breakfast used to be my least favourite one until just a few months ago as I was scared of eating much in the morning. Now I never go without it and am a happy camper.
Cadbury eggs are you faves? Have you tried Lindt Lindor mini eggs yet? If not pleeease do so! They are the best, really.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Repetitive lunches might be the reason that I’m not the biggest fan of them either, but then again… I eat the same breakfast pretty much every day and never fail to get excited about it 🙂 And I haven’t tried those Lindor eggs… I’ll keep my eyes open for them!
Laura Agar Wilson (@keephealthstyle)
Oh I am seriously excited about having some mini eggs this Easter, there’s a giant bag full with my name on it!
dixya@food, pleasure, and health
Cereal is my go to thing esp. when I am running low on groceries. 5 am – on most days I am sleeping and hoping that its only 2 am or something. I am always up for sushi on any given day 😛 Happy Wednesday
Becky @ Olives n Wine
I am a huge morning person so I was up and at it at 5:30am this morning. I know, I’m crazy… I love all of the chocolate you incorporated into your day 🙂
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
Cereal is the perfect meal when my appetite is off, it is comforting. Do you have a treadmill at home or do you watch Game of Thrones at the gym?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I use my apartment’s gym and watch GoT on my iPad – only works with the older seasons though.
Haley @ The Saucy Apple
Cheese ALWAYS sounds good to me. Mmmm….
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I was snoozing at 5:30 this morning! I would say that lunch is usually my least favorite because it’s the one where I usually don’t spend too much time putting anything together. Breakfast and dinner are where I get creative. I think it’s a toss up between those two over which one I like more.. Potatoes always sound good to me when my appetite is off. A nice baked potato always hits the spot.
Alex @ therunwithin
You love those apple chips! I am a huge fan but haven’t bought any in a while. You make me want them right now!
Alysia @ Slim Sanity
Up and at ’em with Insanity at 5 AM this morning! I’m seriously loving all your yogurt bowls with cereal… I need to get on this train!
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
My mouth literally watered at the English muffin picture. I am legit staaahhhving right now and all these WIAW posts are making me extra extra hungry.
My alarm goes off every day at 5:13am so….meh.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
5:13? Definitely an interesting time to set the alarm to! Why not 5:15? 😉
Caitlin
I was finishing up my core workout at 5:30 while watching the carrie diaries (since the morning is the only time i can watch such amazingness without someone whining), after which i jumped in the shower, had a quick breakfast, and then ran out the door so i was only one minute late for pt! Winnnnn for me haha. Cereal alwaysss sounds good to me and my least favorite meal? Lunch or dinner actually…if i have to cook, it’s dinner haha (unless i’m making pancakes or waffles). And i’m happy that you can truly enjoy days like yesterday…best feeling to realize how far you’ve come, right?
Amanda, RD- The Nutritionist Reviews
I just tried those dried apples for the first time! They are so good. I love that they are just apples and cinnamon.
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
I would be sleeping at 5am! I have to wake up at 6:30 for school and that is early enough for me. I would never be one of those people that can workout super early. I like my sleep too much.
SD
Woke up this morning at 5:30. Thats my usual time. . . breakfasty food always sounds appealing to me. Gosh come to think about it for as long as I can remember I’ve been having breakfast at least twice a day 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
As a fellow breakfast addict, that kind of thing is music to my ears
Parita
I’m proud of you too! And at 5:30, V and I were at the gym. My least favorite meal is lunch (primarily because it’s always the same”ish”), and buttered toast always sounds good to me, as does chocolate!
Lucie
Hmmm everythin looks delicious. I think you can be so proud and as you say – it’s all about the balance. I meditated this morning at 5;30 🙂 at least I was awake, since I love to sleep. I am not a fan of lunch either. Since it takes place in the work hours, I always feel stressed and I can’t stand that. Dinner is much more relaxed and breakfast is just so delicous every morning 🙂
Molly@This Life Is Sparkling
Breakfast is definitely my favorite! Lunch is my least. Nothing ever sounds good. And I cannot wait to eat Cadbury mini eggs on Sunday. They are the best!!
Sarah @ Blonde Bostonian
5am – ASLEEP! Go girl for getting up that early. That is not happening right now. No matter what, a piece of fruit always sounds delicious, even when I’m not hungry/not feeling good. For some reason I always get obsessed with apples in the fall. Maybe it’s the apple cider/cider donuts/fall I-want-to-only-wear-sweaters feelings? Who knows.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m pretty sure that fall is the perfect time to get obsessed with apples because that’s when they’re at their peak 🙂 And I actually WISH I could sleep in a little bit later. The day feels so much longer when it starts that early.
Tori
I woke up at 5:30, buuuuut went back to sleep until 6:30 haha! So much for morning workouts. My least favorite meal is lunch because I have lunch duty everyday at school. Eating while walking around the playground and being interrupted constantly isn’t much fun. I could always eat a piece of gluten free toast with almond butter and cinnamon 🙂
Amanda @ Run Principessa
5:30 today I was sleeping, thank goodness! A few of my classes were cancelled for some unknown reason, so I decided to sleep in! I love how much you love cereal because I DEFINITELY feel the same. 🙂
Hollie
AH yes…5:30am. I was up getting ready to run before work. I have never really been a lunch person and spend a lot of my time eating it on the go with work. I actually never even thought it was possible to make homemade applesauce (but really I never thought about it). That’s interesting!
Sky @ The Blonde In Black
Well at 5:30 this morning I was still asleep haha. Breakfast of course is my favorite meal of the day! I think supper is probably my least favorite meal. Mostly because I would rather just have breakfast food again lol Peanut butter always sounds good when my appetite is off whether that is a pb & j sandwhich or just pb & honey on an English muffin.
Rachel
Hmm 5:30am I was passed out hahaha I did wake up at 6:10 though woohoo hahaha all your pictures always make me crave cereal LOL I actually never got into those chocolate eggs… we always had lots of m&ms though– shaped like eggs 😉
Lauren
At 5:30 this morning I was still sleeping 😛 I absolutely hate dinner to be honest. After lunch, I’d rather just snack the night away instead of sitting down to a “dinner”. Plus, for some reason, I am never hungry between 5-7 which is normal dinner time. It’s so weird! Maybe it’s because of the earlier in the day snacking…? Yeah, I don’t know. I want applesauce now.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
At 5:30 this morning, I was definitely asleep. You and your crazy early mornings!
Clearly breakfast is my favourite meal, and lunch is probably my least favourite. Most of the time it’s leftovers or something I’ve thrown together in 5 minutes or less. Dinners are good, because I usually put some sort of thought/effort into them. Can dessert count as a meal? Because that’s probably the all-time favourite.
I’m really just impressed with myself that I’ve ignored the mini eggs I’ve hidden from myself in the back of the cupboard, because I’m using them for my Easter dessert this weekend. But they are quite possibly the most fabulous thing about Spring. So good.
If my appetite is off, I can usually still go for nut butter and fruit, usually bananas.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I managed to hold off on the Easter candy until approximately one week before Easter before I caved. Between Mini Eggs and jelly beans, there’s just too much good stuff to keep saying no.
Robyn
breakfast for dinner RULES! and those cadbury eggs ARE for sure the best Easter candy on the market, in fact I usually can’t even let myself buy a bag because they all disappear right away, I usually sneak some at my dad’s house or something when I can.
Khushboo
Ohh man now THAT’S a good looking day of eats – yum! I have another delicious use of applesauce for youwhich I’ve been loving lately: toast with peanut (almond in your case) butter and applesauce. Nut butter and applesauce is definitely the new “Nut butter & jelly”.
At 5.30 am this morning, I was either in zzz land or in the bathroom- sorry for the TMI but it’s become a joke how much I go to the bathroom during the night..damn water! And on a completely different note, toast with butter or yogurt & applesauce will both always sound appealing to me!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I was actually wondering how applesauce would fair on toast, so I’m happy to hear that it gets a thumbs up from you! And I completely know what you mean about midnight bathroom trips. The worst is when you wake up like 30 minutes before your alarm and it’s not worth going back to sleep anymore 😕
Christina
I really like the look of your lunch! I’ve been having pretty much the same lunch everyday for the last three weeks – I’m waiting for the inevitable boredom to set in! It’s just so easy in the morning to shred some lettuce into my lunchbox and chuck half the fridge in on top of it. I buy a couple of tubs of salad (pasta salad/couscous/edamame bean etc.) and top with salad dressing, black olives, gherkins and have a pitta bread with some houmous on the side. Sometimes I mix it up with a sandwich!
Sarah @PickyRunner
I’m not a lunch fan at all. Never have been. Dinner is my favorite meal and most of the time I feel like I could live without breakfast or lunch (obviously that’s not the case but they just don’t excite me). I won’t lie, when I saw the title of your post, I got really excited. Cereal and sweets- just can’t go wrong with either of those. Especially easter candy. I won’t even tell you how many bags of starburst jellybeans I’ve eaten in the past month. I need to get my mental health checked I think because I seriously have an addiction to them. I’ll be sad when Easter is over and I don’t have an excuse anymore.
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More
OH man! Mini eggs are my nemesis – but only because I love them so much that once I start, I can’t stop!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I can definitely relate to that! My parents bought a 1kg bag of them for me one year and I had to kindly ask them not to ever do that again 😯
Lisa
I feel you on the sleep! I’ve been doing the same lately, except I guess I have a good reason, since the puppy normally wakes me up around 4:45 or 5, but I’m a-okay with that, since I can’t resist her cuteness;)
I kind of want to eat all the food that’s in your post today. It all looks amazing to me!
Oh, for sure Breakfast is the best meal of the day for me!!
Whenever my appetite is off, I know I can count on coffee (which I guess is weird for an off appetite), what can I say I’m obsessed. And always, fruit and carbs! I could eat them all day probably.
