Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Before we talk about anything else, we have to talk about the weather.
You guys… it snowed on Monday and Tuesday. Snowed. Okay, so it was more like heavy white rain and it didn’t end up sticking around, but still! I’ve actually had to keep the heater running over the past couple of days because it’s been that cold. As we speak I’m currently bundled up in about 3 layers, with fuzzy socks on my feet and a steaming mug of hot tea within arm’s reach at all times. Winter is coming.
2. … and will you hate me if I admit that I’m kind of, sort of, maybe okay with that because it just means that snowboarding season will be here soon?!? Don’t get me wrong… I’m not willing to skip over the fall months in favour of winter, but neither am I lamenting the changing seasons. It’s all about making the most of it, right?
3. Oh! And speaking of the mountains, look what I came across in an old photo album while I was over at my parents’ this past weekend!
That teeny, tiny speck on the left is me — leading my dad up a mountain — and the scene of the crime is the very same Jasper Skytram that I showed you guys from my last trip to Jasper…
Look familiar? The first picture is circa ’86, making me about 1.5 years old and meaning that I’ve been visiting the mountains for basically my entire life. Fun fact: my first trip up there was actually when I was still in the womb — my parents went while my mom was pregnant with me. No wonder the mountains feel like home…
4. And speaking of home, Momma Spoons gifted me with the sweetest thing the last time I was over there…
That right there, friends, is a box of silver spoons that belonged to my grandma, which she gave to my mom as a wedding present, and which my mom gave to me for Spoons’ anniversary. Spoons for Spoons! So sweet I couldn’t even handle it. Literally. I was blubbering like a baby.
5. Baby, baby, baby bananas!
Sorry… I’m easily distractible 😆
6. And if you need further proof of that, you needn’t look any further than the floors of my home, where you’ll often see things like this…
That would be my Swiffer, lying in the middle of the room where I conveniently abandoned it after losing interest in sweeping after about… oh… 2 minutes. This happens to me all.the.time. I’ll start cleaning, think of something else that needs doing, go do that, come back to cleaning, think of something else to do, etc., etc. And the best part is that I’ll leave brooms, mops, and vacuums lying in the middle of the floor for days — simply stepping over them when I’m walking around 😆 #winningatlife.
7. Didya hear?!!? The release date for the iPhone 6 has finally been announced! September 19th is the big day! And while I’m not sure if I’m going to preorder, I will definitely be getting one ASAP. I may have mentioned this [a few hundred times], but I’m still rocking the old 4, and it deserves to be put out of its misery. I can’t even open Twitter or Instagram anymore because of how often the darn thing crashes in the process, and it’s probably about ready to self-combust from the crazy amount of pictures it has on it. Mostly of food.
8. And on that note, I’m going to leave you guys with the promise of pancakes on the morrow (did I honestly just say that?!?) because it’s getting close to that hour where I promised myself that I’d shut down for the night, even if that means ending a ToL on #8…
Happy Thursday, friendly faces! 😀
No questions… just tell me whatever comes to your mind! 😀

I can’t even IMAGINE snow right now. It’s still rockin’ in the 100s out here! At least you seem to have a pretty positive attitude about it. 😉 I’d be curled up in a depressed ball of sadness. Haha.
cait @pieceofcait
NO snow. AH. I can’t even deal with that yet.. not yet!!!!
Alexis @ Hummusapien
That spoons gift from your mama is the sweetest!! Oh and those pancakes…want to faceplant.
Rebecca
Yay, new iPhone! You definitely need a new one! iPhone 4 won’t even be updated anymore 🙁
I have the 5S so I think I’m good until iPhone 7, 7++ or whatever it will be called
Danica @ It's Progression
I seriously love that you’re so excited for winter and snow! I personally have never liked winter (good thing we’ll be out of MN for that this year!), but it’s refreshing to hear someone now complaining about it 🙂
Arlene
Well just read your Blog, my Morning happiness 🙂 time to get my workout moving.
Have a great day Amanda,
Arlene <3
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Gushing! Thanks so much, Arlene! Hope you have a wonderful day as well 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More
I want a new phone too!! …sadly though that won’t be happening for me anytime soon 🙁
Hanna
I LOVE that you have a pic from the mountain in 86 and a present day pic to match! That’s so cool! I have similar old pics from when we were visiting my dad’s family in New Zealand when I was little. Those pictures are amazing. I love stuff like that! And on the subject of history, beautiful heirloom spoons!
Can’t wait for that recipe 🙂
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne
I saw some others talking about snow yesterday via social media, but didn’t realize it was for real! I thought they were kidding!! Mother Nature has been weird this year. Hahahaha and at least leaving your swiffer means you know where to start ;). Pancakes??? Yay for pancakes!!! I’m already getting excited for my protein pancakes I’ll be having tomorrow. And I love that panda phone case, too cute!! I’m just hoping the Iphone 6 isn’t huge haha my tiny hands can barely type on the 4 { which I’m currently rocking too 🙂 }.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The 6+ is going to be around 5.7 inches, and the regular 6 is 4.4… So yeah, a tiny bit huge 😯
Elsie Goycoolea
OMG you have temperatures below zero!!!! Just explain to me why do I have to die here in dripping sweat with temperatures over 40 degress!!!??!
Those pictures from Jasper literally gave me goosebumps! Realising you have been there before is magical…
Spoons for spoons = genius!
shashi @ runninsrilankan
Awww…your mom is so sweet – love her “spoons for Spoons” anniversary gift – awwww…loved reading that! And look at your adorable mini-pre-spoon self hiking at a year and a half! WOW! My daughter didn’t start walking till she was 13+ months – and then too she was a bit wobbly – her friend of mine used to say: since she was talking well before, she was just gonna have me run around and get stuff for her instead of getting stuff for herself…dang, am rambling!
Don’t believe y’all are having snow in September!!! GAH – I better make sure I plan my visits to Canada in July – or are y’all still in winter then? 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
HA! We’re -usually- well out of winter by July, but we -have- been known to get a sprinkling of snow in June… so you never really know 😉
Sky @ Blonde Freedom
I’m definitely ready for fall weather but snow…I don’t think I’m ready for that kind of cold. That’s crazy!! That’s such a neat and symbolic gift from your Mom! Hang onto those babies!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
haha I love the flashback photo! And literally everyone and their mother keeps reminding me that it’s been snowing in Alberta. YES THANK YOU I KNOW. I need more winter clothes…
I’m excited for the iPhone 6 to come out, because that means that the 5’s will be even cheaper! 😉 Seriously, as soon as I’m working again…first purchase.
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables
is it bad that I JUST got the iPhone 5c.. not even the 5s?? lol! I’m so not with the tech times!
Sarah
It is hard to fathom how different weather can be. It is over 100 degrees F here and yet you are experiencing near snow. Couldn’t we meet somewhere in the middle?
How do you get your pancakes so perfect? I am anxiously awaiting tomorrow’s recipe (or is that the recipe posted on the morrow?)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh girl, believe me when I say that making pancakes is a super stressful process for me! But I think I’ve managed to come up with a few tricks to make the whole thing a little easier, and a lot of it depends on the consistency of the batter. That’s definitely the recipe coming up tomorrow 🙂
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I actually get really excited when I find smaller bananas in the grocery store! For some reason I don’t really like eating an entire large banana. I kind of get tired of it by the end of the small ones are perfect.
Um don’t even tell me there is snow already. That is just way to depressing and makes me worried that its gonna be another awful winter.
Jen @ Bagels to Broccoli
I will most definitely be getting the iPhone 6! I’m trying to figure out how to preorder because I’ve never gone through the whole process before. Woohoo for a bigger screen! I feel like a grandma with the squinting action I’ve been doing with my current one – and it’s the 5!
Heather @fitncookies
Spoons for Spoons.. ahh I can’t even handle that! Ok so you said snow, and talked about snowboarding, and I swear you just told us like a month ago that you took your last trip 😉 Haha The summer flew for sure! I wish there was an easy way to determine what Fahrenheit temps those Celsius ones are. It just looks cold! Our weather is dipping down to the 60s F this weekend. I’m a bit ready for it 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It was hovering around 32 to 40F — so a little chilly 😉 Thankfully it’s warming up, and we’re supposed to get into the 60’s today 😆
Kate @ Baking in Yoga Pants
Snow-like-rain?! In early September?! That is crazy talk!! Although bundling up and getting comfy is always kind of nice 🙂
Nessa @ Ness Runs
Spoons for spoons, I love it! I also have an iphone 4 and I’m more than ready to retire it for the 6!
Susie @ SuzLyfe
I can’t talk about the weather. I feel like I’ve been doing that all year already. Love the gift of family silver. Being from the South, receiving silver is like getting the family diamonds–incredibly speacial
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Being so far north, I had no idea! But I’m kind of loving t 😀
Mary
What a lovely gift from your Mom! 🙂
TiffLovesweatandbeers
Bahaha! Winter is coming! 😉
The spoons for spoons is so thoughtful and adorable.
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
Love the spoons. So sweet and sentimental…And I threw out my Swiffer wetjet recently. I stopped using it because I felt like all it did was push around the dirt rather than clean it up.
Hollie
You like winter though. I think that’s okay to hope snowboarding is here if there is an activity you like. I would prefer the fall and spring since I enjoy activities that go along with that.
I saw the iphone 6 but cannot get over how big it will go. Gosh. I don’t know if I can commit to it LOL.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It does seem a little crazy, eh?! I would go for the 6+, but a 5.7 inch screen seems a little much. I think thats why I’m holding off on preordering — I wanna see what they look like before I buy one!
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Yeahhhh for the iPhone 6! I mayyyy have watched the live announcement at work but shhhhh, don’t tell 😉 Also, SNOW?!??! That makes me even more happy to be moving south in less than 3 weeks! Eep!
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
Those spoons are beautiful! What a thoughtful and loving gift from your Mum – made me smile 🙂
The new iPhone will definitely be a topic on my TOL today – got a blackberry at the moment which equals no Instagram!!! #bloggerproblems
Heidi @ Idlehide Blog
Oh, Amanda. The weather around you has been redic! My sister is in Calgary and she was so sad on Monday! She txt me a pic of her car covered in snow:/ I told she just had to move back to Halifax 😀
Thanks for the link up, it’s a fun one!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think Calgary got hit a lot harder than we did! It snowed here, but the snow didn’t stick so it just felt like really, really cold rain.
Chelsea
Oh geez…snow!!! I’ll have to admit..I’m ready too – but I need a healthy dose of Fall first!!
Aweeee baby Amanda hiking is adorable 🙂
Those spoons! Soo sweet!!
I’m super guilty of distraction cleaning too!
Lucie@FitSwissChick
That Spoon present is so nice!! What a great idea and sweet gestur of your Mom.
I am extremely looking forward to hit the slopes in only a few weeks. I am sad summer is over, but snowboarding…..oh anticipation!!
Ms.J
“on the morrow” instantly brought the word marrow to mind! Yeeks.
Born with the mountains in your blood, and ice in your veins…how else would we explain your fondness of the frosty cold!?
I am prone to task-hopping myself, except not living alone means there is little no scope on leaving behind a trail of destruction…which sounds like fun by the way 😉 .
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
Yayy for new iphone 6!! I’ve had the 4s for AGES, i need a new one pronto. I tihnk im going to get the 6, not 6+… it seems too big, but you never know. I love your case 🙂 And i cant believe it snowed!! I guess of all people you’re not that bummed bc you love snowboarding but still, its so early! And that old Jasper is the cutest thing everr!!
Khushboo
Ah I’m so with you about getting the iPhone 6..no question about it! I’ve been holding off on updating my current iPhone 4s so let’s just say this purchase is long overdue! Although I just read that the iPhone 6 is most likely going to mean higher bills…uh oh! And your mom is just the cutest- such a lovely gift but even more so for acknowledging Spoons’ birthday :)!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Higher bills?! Whaaa? Why?
Khushboo
I’m guessing more features = more usage…ick!
Miss Polkadot
First things first: I managed to link up via my phone without the internet connection crashing! Now keeping my fingers crossed my comment won’t double-post like yesterday.
Thanks for the reminder to a) buy a new Swiffer [my roommate kept the old one] and b) mop my floors. Which I actually enjoy. But that doesn’t mean you wouldn’t find random odds and ends lying on my floor. And let’s not talk about the overflowing bag of water bottles I need to return to the store…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ugh I’m horrible with returning water bottles. Thankfully my building started collecting them to donate the money to a local charity, so I just give them over to that cause 🙂
Arman @ thebigmansworld
omg the flashback photos!!!!!!
That is insane- and as for the iphone 6. YES.
My blog is down so no go linking up until later. Fail whale.
Arman @ thebigmansworld
False alarm.
Brynn
I saw the word snow and my mind literally stopped working. Oh my word, not yet.
How sweet your mom gifted you such a special gift. I have my grandma’s silver and treasure it dearly. There is nothing like having a piece of your past and loved ones to hold on to and one day pass along.
