Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. A few random things I forgot to mention in my Vegas recap! First, this…
[source]
Hangover Heaven — a pimped out bus you can ride that will treat your hangover by hooking you up to an IV and pumping you full of fluids and vitamins. I thought it was a joke when I first saw an advertisement for it at the airport, but apparently it really is a thing! And no… no one in our party needed to utilize its services.
2. Second, I had a mini panic attack when I thought I busted my iPad while I was gone. I’d slide the little thing to unlock it, but instead of going to the home screen like it should, it would just reboot itself… every.single.time. I resigned myself to the fact that I’d probably have to take it in to Apple and lose all my data [read: my farm], but lo and behold… I brought it home, hooked it up to my computer, downloaded an update, and it works just fine [read: my farm is safe]…
I guess it didn’t appreciate the heat any more than I did [even though it was always in a place with AC].
3. In other news, Alberta finally decided to update its license plates, and they’re kindly giving us the option to vote for our favourite. The one on the upper left is what we have now, and the other three are our options…
[source]
Personally, I’m kind of in love with this [reader-created] one π π

4. I’m also very much in love with this Morning Oat Crunch cereal…
5. … which once again unleashed my inner cereal monster…
My cereal addiction was getting a little out of hand for a while there, so I decided to cut myself off and start seeing other people foods. I was doing so well, aaaaaaand then I went ahead and opened Pandora’s Barbara’s box. That was the beginning of the end. And those boxes up there? All bought and opened within the past few days π
6. Speaking of grocery shopping… random snack haul!
I’ve been seeing a lot of new foods in here in Canadaland, which makes me a super happy camper! New kombucha flavours. The Good Bean crunchy chickpeas. Enjoy Life decadent bars. Yay!
7. Now if only I’d start seeing these too…
But at least I stocked up [a bit] while I was down in Vegas!
8. And while we’re on the topic of almond related things… does anyone else have a hard time finishing off a whole carton of almond milk in 7 days? I only ask because it says on the carton that that’s what you’re supposed to do, regardless of expiration date… Honestly, though? I don’t think I’ve ever managed it. I only use almond milk for my smoothies, and not enough to finish it off that fast.
9. Another thing I had trouble finishing? Ender’s Game. I got through it eventually, but daaaaaang was it ever a struggle. I’m not really the biggest fan of science fiction to begin with, but I think my biggest problem with the book was that I just didn’t find Ender likeable or relatable. In fact, I didn’t feel for any of the characters — they all seemed so shallow and robotic. That and the plot was ridiculously repetitive to the point where I probably could have skipped past the entire middle section of the book and not missed much. I’m now reading Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire SΓ‘enz, and I think it’s safe to say that I’m enjoying it a whole heck of a lot more considering I started it last night and I’m already over halfway through.
10. (Happy Thursday!) π
No questions… just tell me whatever comes to your mind! π

Katie @ Talk Less, Say More
Oh man! You’ve got some of my favorite cereals there! It’s a good thing I learned wheat makes my hair fall out so I can’t allow myself to indulge, unless I’m willing to lose a BUNCH of hair that week. π
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers
Ha, that bus is funny. I wonder how well it works? Of course, I’d rather not have to find out. π
What should I be reading these days?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Spoons, naturally π But if you mean books, then I guess it really depends on what you like! Have you read the Delirium series by Lauren Oliver? It’s kind of got a dystopian feel to it. And if you’re big on fantasy/adventure, then the Throne of Glass series is really good. Orrrr… Red Rising? Graceling? Those are a few good ones I read recently π
Audrey @ In Shape Cupcake
I LOVEEEE the morning oat crunch from Barbara’s! Its just so good! Great in yogurt too π
lindsay
your random hall of grocery is a regular here. Love them all!
p.s. pretty sure that hangover heaven bus is making a fortune in vegas
Jess
Wow! I love that a hangover bus is a thing. Where was that in 2007 when I needed it?
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne
All that cereal makes me want some puffins!!! And good thinking on stocking up in Justin’s! I feel like I need to get some, it’s been a very very long time since I’ve had any haha
charlotte
HAHA i love the ‘winter is coming’ licence plate. that should win. hands down. also where was that bus in my early 20s?? i feel like thats the type of thing that we later find out extends your life by 2 days each time you visit π
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Confession: I would consider moving to Alberta if you went with that reader-created license plate. Except for when winter actually comes, then I’d have to leave again because I can’t handle your crazy winters.
And I’m pretty sure I’ve never finished off almond milk in a week – I only use it for oats and smoothies. Not dead yet!
I’m almost out of my Justin’s Vanilla and it makes me sad. I have another trip to the States planned at the end of August, but I don’t know if I can make myself wait that long…
Amy @ Long Drive Journey
Ok, I didn’t know about the 7 days thing on the almond milk, and I NEVER do that. I just drink it until 1) it’s gone or 2) it starts to smell funky. Is that gross? I’ve never gotten sick though!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m pretty sure that’s what everyone does. I go by smell and taste, and if that’s okay, then I figure I’m okay π
Linda @ Fit Fed and Happy
I really wish I could find Justin’s peanut butter in Canada!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
OH MY GOD. That bus. I’ve been saying for years that I wish someone would hook me up to IV fluids when I’m hungover.
I laughed so hard at that license plate. I’ve already been feeling winter anxiety.
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
Haha! Omg, that license plate is perfect! And that Barbara’s cereal must be their version of Quaker Oat Squares…I forget, have you had those? Because they are PURE CRACK! I can’t even buy them anymore because once I open the box, it’s gone in two days! I rarely ever finish off my almond milk within a week…usually more like two or sometimes even three…and guess what? I’m still alive! π Love you girlie and miss you like HECK!! xoxo
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I used to be craaaaaazy about the Quaker oat squares, and these are pretty much the same thing <3 I'm already close to finishing another box, and I literally just opened it π And I'm the same way with the almond milk -- as long as it smells and tastes alright, then I figure it must be okay.
Bridget
Totally have the same problem with finishing almond milk! I always feel so wasteful when I have to dump it. I wish the made a slightly smaller carton.
I also empathize with your cereal addiction. Dry cereal is one of my favorite munchies!!!!
Jen @ Bagels to Broccoli
I completely agree re: the almond milk thing – I’ve Googled it, though, and apparently it’s ok to drink within a couple of weeks, so there’s that :).
Melissa @ Mango About Town
Its about time Alberta is getting new licence plates!!! Anything is better than what they have but now it will be a little more difficult to spot them on Manitoba highways because they will look similar to our colourful ones haha. I also have a problem with not finishing milk – when I lived alone I stopped buying it because I was sick of wasting it but now that I live with my boyfriend he just finishes it all, it’s great haha
Miss Polkadot
The story of your phone sounds similar to what happened with mine recently. Only it never recovered and I had to get a new one. Which on the upside was a blessing in disguise because I finally have what you can actually call memory card space.
What’s your actual favourite from the license plates? Personally, I’d vote for the bottom right one.
Funny you’d mention the almond milk because it’s super hard to find around here and I’m trying to slow down the pace at which I go through a carton. Though I think they come in larger sizes over there?? Ours are a litre each which really isn’t much when you use it for drinking as is, cooking, baking, …
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The bottom right one is my first pick as well, followed by the bottom left. And we can get smaller cartons that come in litres, but some of the bigger ones are a little more and THOSE are the ones that are harder to finish.
Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate
Wow, I can’t believe that bus is serious, butβ¦I am kind of mad I didn’t invent it haha. And yes, I have a terrible time trying to finish off a whole gallon of almond milk- its nearly impossible for me!
Erin @ The Almond Eater
Hahha tha bus! That’s so…. helpful? Sad? I can’t quite think of the word. Glad your iPad is ok and that you were able to stock up on some Justin’s while you were here. Theeeeee best.
Hollie
That’s interesting…I actually never knew almond milk could go bad. I don’t pay attention to labels clearly LOL.
Becky @ Olives n Wine
The almond milk thing is SO annoying and unrealistic unless you drink it like water, haha! I keep mine for 10ish days and have never gotten sick. It actually makes me want to email Blue Diamond and see what they have to say about it π
Susie @ Suzlyfe
I feel like that license plate could apply to us here in Chicago as well… minus the epic looking mountain, that is. The Good Bean Sweet Cinn chickpeas are sooooo good. I love them on top of salads as well as in yogurt. I used to only buy the smaller cartons of almond milk due to not being able to finish it off quickly enough, but now with my husband drinking it, we have no problem. But otherwise, yeah, that’s a helluva lot of almond milk!
Jessie
Barbara’s cereal may be the BEST kind if you ask me. I could live off their original & cinnamon puffins. Okay maye not live, but be one very happy lady having it once a day π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Confession: the other day I had cereal for both lunch and dinner. It was wonderful π
Brynn
I never finish my almond milk within the 7 day window and wondered if I was the only one. It seems perfectly fine beyond the recommended time…we are such dare devils. Living on the edge! Drink almond milk at day 10 and lets see what happens!!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Is it wrong that I love the party bus idea? And that I feel like it would be an appropriate way for me to spend the weekend? I think an all rager might be good for my mental health right now. Alas I shall be responsible and go to a yoga class instead.
It usually takes me 2 weeks to drink all my almond milk, sometimes even longer because unless I’m cooking, I just use a drop in my morning coffee. I haven’t had it go bad yet either. I shake it up, do a sniff taste and declare it good.
I’m glad to hear the farm was okay. I can only imagine the terror that inspired. I check my ‘farm’ every morning to make sure the deer haven’t gotten it. Damn animals.
Cute little ode to GoT via a license plate.
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I can never finish my milk within the time period it says. I only use it really for coffee so I buy the smallest one possible, however, lately I buy TJ’s skim milk and it lasts well beyond the sell-by date which makes me happy. I don’t know from almond milk but is it really bad after the seven days? I know my organic milks which say use in seven days are always still good beyond that time.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Well, I’ve been using it well past the seven days, and as long as it smells okay and tastes okay, then I don’t worry about it too much. I’m still alive and kicking, so I guess that must be okay π
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
Oh I think if I ever saw Justin’s AB in a store in the UK I would scream so loudly! And then buy it all! At least you are able to taste it’s wonder, I can only dream…
I never pay attention to the dates on almond milk – I just use it until it’s done. And use my own instincts as to whether it is off or not.
Love the number plates! We don’t have anything like that in the UK, they are literally all plain yellow, no design at all. So boring! So any one of those options looks great to me!
Chelsea
Baahahhaa. The reader-created license plate made me laugh!!!
Also. We drink rice milk, but we never finish it in 7 days either. But we keep eating (err..drinking) it. Is that terrible?! I always smell it firsr π
Khushboo
Ohh how I wish I had your almond milk problem…I can’t seem to make a carton last more than 3 days! While ordinarily that’s fine, it’s a problem here as almond milk cartons are rather scarce here! Although I don’t play Farmville, I feel you on the fear of losing your iPad data- so glad I’ve at least backed up all my photos on iCloud.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
We read Ender’s Game in Junior High and I do kind of remember the characters being a little stiff…good for you for finishing it haha I would have moved on ASAP!
I LOVE the Cascadian Farm cinnamon crunch!
Justin’s nutbutter is pretty amazing but man is it expensive at Target! I actually broke down and bought some (shopping hungry…not the best idea) because it was on sale at like $7 a tiny jar. My Jif is like $5 for a jar 3x the size haha but Justin’s is a treat, right!
I started playing Sims on Saturday on xbox and I feel like you and your farm…addicted and would cry if the game got erased!
Happy to hear no one needed the crazy mobile hangover treatment bus. Seriously so weird!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think it was mostly just me being stubborn. I only remember not finishing one book, and that was Robinson Crusoe — I just couldn’t make it through that one. And Justin’s is CRAZY expensive π But I find that most of the almond butter’s I can actually eat (the ones without traces of peanuts) are π₯
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
Okay so when I first read the almond milk thing I read it as butter instead of milk and started freaking out a little, because obviously I am not finishing that in 7 days! But when I used to drink almond milk I don’t think I was going through it in a week and I have survived. I use canned coconut milk in my coffee now.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I have the same issue with almond milk! I rarely use it so it always goes bad. Sometimes we buy regular milk and have the same issue. At least with almond milk in a box you can keep it on the shelf until you are ready to open it/use it.
That hangover bus thing is too funny! I would love to hear about it from someone who actually tried it out.
Cat
I love your book recommendations (ever since the art of racing in the rain!) and that Aristotle tome looks like my next read π I think you should totally start a Spoons book club!
Lauren-Kate
As if they have a hangover bus! That is nuts!
I wish we could get cereal like that over here – organic cinnamon crunch!? Can you mail me some over please π
Ah Kombucha I could do with some of that right now – my stomach is having a nice party of its own the last few days! boo!
Happy Thursday π
Lucie@FitSwissChick
That hangover bus!! I think if we had this here, it would be filled up with teenager…these guys are crazy drinkers. Oh, the youngsters π
I finally found a place where I can order Nuts’n more Almond Butter – so happy as it comes very close to the taste and consistency of Junstin’s!
Shashi @ RunninSrilankan
I think it’s too cool y’all get to vote on y’alls license plates!
And #8 – no way have I finished one in 7 days either – but I had no clue I was supposed to!!! You don’t use almond milk with your cereal? I remember when I was in college a friend of mine would eat cereal -with water! I tried it once and have been eating oats -with almond milk ever since! π
I think Justin’s maple almond butter makes the world better π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually usually have my cereal with yogurt. Sometimes I’ll add a splash of almond milk to soften things up, but not enough to make a big dent. And yessss — the maple is my favourite <3
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Alberta is actually asking others for number plate advice?! That’s community spirit. I can’t believe you bought dates. Persian dates > life.
Cereal cereal cereal. If I didn’t have salmon in the oven, I’d be claiming cereal for dinner.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Who’s fault is it that I have to buy regular dates? Just saying…
