1. I think it might just be time for me to do some [clothes] shopping. While fiddling around with Photo Booth the other day, I realized that I wear the Β same gray hoodie about 80% of the time that I’m at home…
2. And maybe I’ll pick up some of these while I’m at it…
Β Or maybe not π― I saw a woman wearing these babies when I was in Starbucks the other day and it was… uhm… interesting. Maybe she’s just trying to get in the festive spirit?
3. Speaking of getting into the festive spirit, I’ve been dying to break into my Christmas stash and start decorating, but I have this annoying tradition of always waiting until December 1st to bust out the snowmen and reindeer so I’m doing my best to hold off for a few more days. Patience may be a virtue, but waiting sucks…
4. I’m also doing my best not to save all of my Christmas shopping for the last minute. Confession: I have a horrible habit of waiting until the second week of December to start buying presents. It can be stressful as heck, but I think part of me is addicted to the excitement that comes with that last minute rush…
5. Oh, and if you’re having a hard time finding the perfect gift for that person who seems to have everything, how about getting them one of these?Β I’m not quite sure whether to laugh or feel slightly disturbed.
6. I was doing a bit of cleaning the other day and came across some of my old mix tapes. Remember those? Came before cd’s and mp3’s? Wow I’m old. It’s always fun to reminisce about the teenage angst of my youth…
Β [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dn8vzTsnPps]
7. Why am I so tired? π―
8. Maybe it’s because I’ve been getting some crazy good workouts in….
Oh please. Don’t act like you don’t do it all the time too π
9.Β And don’t worry, I’ve been refuelling myself properly…
I haven’t been able to get enough roasted potatoes lately. I know white potatoes usually get overshadowed by the more popular sweet orange guys, but honestly? I’d take one of these over a sweet potato any day…
10. And with that, it’s time to head off to the movies with the boy. It’s crazy – I used to go to the movies like once a yearΒ at best, and this’ll be the second time in a week. How things change.
. – . – . – .
Do you like Uggs?
Have you started Christmas shopping yet?
Any favorite songs you remember from your teenage years?Β
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl)
Uggs is short for UGLY!!! Hahaha. I’m sorry, I just don’t understand the popularity with those monstrosities. There was WAY cuter, comfortable shoes out there.
Christmas shopping = done! Can’t wait for the big day.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
How are you so on top of things?! And how do you manage to keep your presents secret from other people?! I just can’t do it…
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl)
I shop usually in the early fall to avoid crowds at stores (and then stuff online in November if necessary); I hide the presents in my closets π
Ellie@Fit for the Soul
ahahaha that santa picture is so funny! π That’s me right there. π And I used to love sweet potatoes and regular potatoes just the same, but now in my first trimester (almost second in a few days I think, yayyyy!) I don’t like the sweet ones and prefer the savory ones. I’m not too much into sweet foods lately, hm…And it seems like things with the boy are going well? Ahh have lots of fun Amanda!
Reese @ A Piece of Reese
I’ve been clicking through random blogs this morning and found yours π I ALWAYS wear the same t-shirts or hoodies around the house so no worries haha. And I personally do not like Uggs although some styles are better than others. I live in Florida though so it’s never actually appropriate weather to wear them anyways.
Lauren @ The Homeostatic Mindset
Ha! I’m always in exams till around Dec 22, so my Christmas shopping gets done the 23rd. Everyone always gets awesome gifts though- I’m serious! I usually just end up spending a litttttle more money than I wanted to (read: a lot). So, the 2nd week of December is amazing! haha I have the chocolate brown Uggs. I don’t think I can get into the sparkly ones though…Would be cute for like a one-time event or something (Ugly sweater party, maybe?), but not day-to-day. π
Linz @ Itz Linz
i love uggs!! the sequins ones may be a bit much for me though.. but i do kinda like em! π hehe yes i’m a 12 year old at heart!! me and my hubby celebrate chanukah so we do a gift each of the 8 nights.. i’ve got 3 so far… 5 more to go! π
Nicky
Arggh I always leave Christmas shopping until last minute and I never learn! It just kind of intimidates me with how much I have to buy for people and choosing the right things and arghh it’s so stressful! But avoiding it never makes it go away….ah well!
Haha those Uggs are crazyyy! I’ve always hated Uggs right from when they were a big craze. I mean, have you seen how people WALK in them?! If you look at their feet the inner side of their foot is always more worn down than the other side which means they are walking with their legs bent in basically. Really bad for your posture and they look silly anyway! I prefer my real black leather boots anyday π
Haha that picture is definitely me coming back from the stores. Can’t WAIT to get a car so I can fill my boot with all that heavy stuff! It’s a pretty good workout though π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve never noticed that about Uggs, but now that you mentioned it I’ll probably start staring at people who walk in them π The worst is when they get dirty or wet, though… just ick.
Kat
Ninja and I started our xmas decorating as soon as we got back from my daddys on sunday from turkey day. We dont waste any time! I HATE HATE HATE the crowds at xmas here in LA< so I always get what I need at the stores early, then shop late online π
And I loved Limp because of the song "Rollin'" Before I got married my last name was Bollen, so all my friends would say "keep bollen' bollen' bollen'" like in the song, just changing rollin with bollen lol
Lucie
I did not buy and christmas presents and won’t till 1-2days before π it’s lazy bit it works for me! Oh my God. First, i listened to David Hasselhoff. Then Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams. Later harder stuff like Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam or Rage Against The Machine…..and YAY for tapes! I even got a few where my brother and me recorded us when we were little kids. This cracks me up π
Laura
Confession: I finished my Christmas shopping last week…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Teach me how to not fail at life…
Laura
Hahahaha
I’m not sure how successful I’m being. I am just going to keep seeing things that I “sound have” bought for everyone….and then will probably end up buying just because. Someone send a warning to my bank account…PLEASE!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin
Haha those Uggs are ridiculous! Though I’m not going to lie, I love my regular non-sparkly Uggs. They’re just so comfy!
I went through a few different music phases in my teenage years. When I was a younger teen I loved Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton, Sum 41 and Treble Charger. But in my older teens I discovered more alternative music and listened to Death Cab for Cutie, Elliott Smith and The Shins!
I prefer sweet potatoes, but I LOVE white potatoes too. Especially the mini ones when I roast them with olive oil, thyme, rosemary, oregano and salt.
Allison @ Life's a Bowl
Hop on down to DC and we can go shopping together, I’m in need of some “real” clothes aka other than stretchy pants and sweats π I actually have to find a tacky Christmas sweater for a party next Friday. Googling “tacky Christmas sweater” has turned up no good results, actually pretty trashy results [I’d prefer to keep myself covered, thanks!]… Probs will check out the local thrift store. And shopping the second week is better than me, I procrastinate until the last possible minute not because I don’t wanna shop but because I cannot keep a secret when it comes to [happy] surprises and have a bad history of revealing gifts π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh man, one time I bought a purse for my mom like 2 months in advance and had the HARDEST time keeping it from her. Maybe that’s why I save all my shopping until the last minute too…
Hollie
I’m the same way with Christmas shopping. I save it all for late and I have birthdays this year I have to get so I can’t hold it off too late or things will not get there in time. Now that I think about, I should probably get on that today.
Sara @my less serious life
i’m doing my xmas decorating this weekend too! i like to wait until December 1. i know the world decorates right after thanksgiving – but i like to give it a little time. anticipation….
Albizia
I don’t really like sweet potatoes… But maybe I should move to the UK which is famous for its love for their not sweet yellow brothers. I’d pick a well cooked potato over chocolate any day.
Bad Amanda! With a Christmas spirit like yours one would think you have already finished with Christmas shopping. But don’t buy the alcohol breath checker… I am almost done with the shopping. Started months ago… π
You liked Limp Bizkit too? Ha! Our music tastes are more similar than I thought.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually think they’re quite a bit more similar than we’d expect! Some other favorites are Disturbed, Godsmack, Finger Eleven, Linkin Park, Nine Inch Nails, The Offspring, A Perfect Circle, Sevendust, Seether, Three Days Grace… I like anything loud and angry heehee.
Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate
I actually got most of my Christmas shopping done early online this year, it is such a relief to not have to worry about it during finals (bleh). Have fun at the movies with your boy!
Khushboo
Uggs are the greatest fashion invention ever but I wonβt lieβ¦they arenβt the prettiest things to look at! Although in freezing temps, warmth definitely trumps any hint of styleβ¦itβs a trade-off Iβm willing to make! As for those sequins Uggs, the only word that comes to mind is WHY! Arenβt Uggs are ugly enough?? Thank you for the little Limp Bizkit blast from the past! Their music is so different to what I normally listen to (hip hop/R & B) but for some reason, I loved their stuffβ¦especially Rollinβ :). And that grocery pic pretty much sums me upβ¦an extra limb would definitely be much appreciated in such situations!
Ashley @ AlmostVegGirlie
Full disclosure: I have those boots. Well actually not those exact ones, mine are Bearpaw brand and more of a bronzy gold with a less-obnoxious snakeskin pattern instead of sequins but I love them because they’re so cute and shiny while also being comfy.
I get ridiculously excited about Christmas. I started listening to the music when it first started on satellite radio 2 weeks ago (crazy, but I’m not complaining) and I even decorated my apartment even though I’ll only be here for a couple of weeks before break. I think I have to get into the Christmas spirit because it makes it so much easier to get through the last few weeks of the semester which are always so stressful!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I fully support using Christmas decorating as a way to procrastinate and/or relieve stress. And I may or may not have been tuning in to the 24/7 Christmas station for the past week and a half now π
Kate
regular potatoes FTW! I have to admit I hate the white ones, but Yukon Gold taters? get in mah belly. Roasted is the best way! I’m having trouble waiting to bust out Christmas stuff too, and I usually wait till Advent starts! I think it’s cuz I’d rather be home with my family during the holiday season than out in Colorado by myself so christmasifying things makes it easier!
Andrea
So many great things about this post. It’s like you were in my brain! When I first saw the picture of those Uggs I was like uhhh is she serious? And you weren’t. Thanks, haha. I may be the odd man out here, but I think that breathalyzer would be a great gift. I’d take one just for fun! That’s totally me after I go grocery shopping, which is after class, so I usually have my bookbag, my purse, big water bottle, and all my grocery bags, while having to find my keys and unlock the door with just two hands π Fun stuff. And I have been obsessed with roasted potatoes lately too! I just can’t get enough of them. Sometimes it’s not even the potatoes I’m craving but the ketchup I dip them in π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha oh man the ketchup comment… Yes – definitely me. Sometimes what I choose to eat ends up being based solely on the fact that I want to dip it in ketchup or AB.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
I like Uggs (hey, they are incredibly comfortable, soft, and warm!), but I am so not a fan of the flashy ones. I am not really into wearing sequins on my feet…or maybe at all, for that matter! π
Olivia @ Life As Liv
I 100% get some small thrill out of waiting last minute to do all of my Christmas shopping. I’m honestly not in the mood to Christmas shop ahead of time. Other things take priority. Shopping for others also helps get me in the Christmas mood, so it’s a win-win. π
Jessie
I love that you wear that VS sweatshirt constantly around the house, because that is one (out of may 2 or three) that I’ll rotate throughout the week. It’s just so darn comfy π π Hope you & the boy enjoyed the movie xoxo
lindsay
ohh yes, the boy Enjoy the movies. tee hee. I don’t think I’ve been in like a year!
p.s.
I wear the same hoodie DAILY!
Dione
I have started Christmas shopping but still have a couple to go. I only buy for my parents, sister, and significant other so it’s quite a short list. I will be sleeping all day Christmas again this year since I finish a stretch of nights that morning (I am a lab tech at the Grey Nuns so my job is 24 7). That’s fine since it’s not a big deal to me.
As a child of the 80s many songs trigger memories, but the year I was 15 sticks out most. I listened to Amy Grant’s Heart in Motion (Baby Baby, Good For Me, Every Heartbeat etc) and Wilson Phillips (Hold On, Release me, Impulsive) tapes over and over. (I have both on my IPhone now). And Alannah Miles (Black Velvet, Love is, Still Got This Thing) and Larry Gowan’s “All the Lovers in the World” (also on my phone) take me back to visiting Toronto thar summer. Ah music is really amazing how it sticks with you and triggers so many memories and emotions, especially in those younger teen to adult years. The other night my man and I were lying in bed watching videos on my phone and reminiscing, and I said I bet all these young kids we work with have never heard of these songs (Peter Gabriel Sledgehammer, REM Everybody Hurts for example). At 44 and 37 we seem to have a large group of young 20somethings there. Makes for some interesting coversations.
Caitlin
Oh fun what did you see??? That is totally me when bringing in groceries…and I totally still have mix tapes at my parents house…whether I can still play them is another story, but I remember what’s on them…oh my musical taste in those days π Only 1.5 days till you can decorate!! Can’t wait to see what you do!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We saw Wreck-it Ralph. Seriously so good.
Caitlin
I don’t think I’ve seen any previews for it, but I just looked it up on imdb…looks great!!
Devon @ Health in Equilibrium
Am I the only one who thinks that having an alcohol breath checker like that on the market is a bad thing? People are going to start taking it as a personal challenge. And I haven’t been to the movies in AGES, so let me know if you see something good!
P.S. Two trips ARE for pansies π jk
Angela
Ooh let me guess – Life of Pi?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Nope! Saw that one over the weekend. This time it was Wreck-it Ralph π
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Never have I ever…owned a pair of Uggs. Nor do I ever plan on it I mean, they’re slippers!
I’m a last minute gift-er too…my goal is to have everything done and wrapped a week before Christmas. For me, that’s pretty ambitious. :-p
Missy
I have done ALL my shopping on Christmas Eve for years and years. Not sure why.
I have a short list and I like to know what I am going to give (I put a lot of thought into it) so it’s just a matter of procuring said items.
And girl?
When is there ever a time clothes shopping isn’t a good idea.
But…you ain’t foolin’ nobody.
You can buy all the new clothes and that hoodie will still be the everyday home uniform.
That’s just how hoodies work. (0:
Alexandra
I never was a fan of white potato texture, but the way you cook those look AMAZING!! I’ll have to give them a second chance heehee And I’m actually almost done with all my Chritmas shopping surprisingly– I guess it’s thanks to using shopping as procrastination from studying mwahaha
Have fun at the movies!!! What are you guys seeing? π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We went to see Wreck-it Ralph. Seriously a flippin’ fantastic movie – but then again, I’m a sucker for anything Disney π
Kristi @ Sweetly Fit
I love both types of potatoes…but roasted is definitely the way to go. mmm! I had my apartment decked out in Christmas gear before Thanksgiving, HAHA. I was just a little bit excited about it. π
Have fun with the boy! So sweet. <3
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers
Ha! I was a Limp Bizkit fan, myself. Now I look back and say, why so angry? Still fun to listen to though when I’m feeling sentimental. π
As for the breathalyzer, I can only see that being useful for parents of sly teenagers… though not sly enough.
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate
Roasted potatoes are the bomb π Especially with parm cheese.
Aimee
I am famous for waiting till the last minute to do my Christamas shopping! I think I just do better under pressure!
I must admit that I when I go food shopping I try and carry all of my bags inside in one trip – no matter how many bags I have!
Glad to hear your going to the movies again – have fun!!
Alex @ therunwithin
Ok white potatoes are amazing. Confession I would eat them over sweet potatoes any day. Blogger shocker right here. You may hate me but I am a grinch when it comes to Christmas. I mean I love it but I hate the hype. I tend to shop a week before and don’t even decorate my
Own apartment. My family usually gets their tree and decorates like a few days before. Grinch family for sure. I really despise uggs but damn are they comfy. I don’t have a pair just because incould never take myself seriously and wear them. And don’t worry all my
Clothes are from three plus years ago. Whoops. I guess I really hate shopping
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Could never hate you <3 But I'm sending out an open invitation for you to come decorate with me this weekend. I'll force the Christmas cheer into you with cookies and Michael Buble π
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
I swear I always get the worst day after muscle soreness from grocery shopping trips! Especially in the summer when you got watermelon to carry! I have already started Christmas shopping, but I always save the wrapping for last minute…I think it is the last minute rush that I like too! Roasted potatoes are delicious, yours look perfect! π
Chelsie @ Balance, Not Scale
I was very much into Our Lady Peace, Greenday, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Avril (of course! but didn’t want to admit to it π ), Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and Blink 182. I could definitely keep going, but these were the big players. And I used to make mixed tapes ALL the time (hooray for recording off the radio!! :D).
You can tell by my 30lbs of groceries toted home on my bike that I’m TOTALLY a one-trip wonder. haha.
Those Uggs look like moon boots. Too trippy/flashy/gaudy for my liking!!
And holy heck, don’t even get me started on my hoodie collection — I love this time of year because I get to pull them all back out. And you’d better believe I’m in my black Roots pull-over 90% of the time when I’m home. I love it toooooo much. Definitely a staple.
I love these and am infinitely glad that it seems like Mr. Starbucks managed to have an early night, even if it made for a late one for you!! π <3
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yes, yes, YES to pretty much all those bands (and knowing all the words to Avril’s songs but never admitting it). As for Mr. Bux, we just barely made it to the movie and I felt so bad for dragging him out, but he insisted. I think I might be the death of him one day…
Miss Polkadot
Yay for showing white potatoes some love! I’ve said it before and will say it again: I don’t get all the rage about sweet potatoes.
Songs that remind me of my childhood/teenage years? Spice Girls all the way! Maybe it’s time to listen to their songs again? Or not π …
I SO get what you mean about the movie dates. While the boy and I haven’t been to the movies that often we’ve been watching a DVD almost every time we meet. Not that we didn’t talk, eat or or do other things but if we’re uncreative (sigh …) then a movie’s in order. And I’m not watching a lot of TV at all when alone.
Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness
I am the worst with getting my christmas shopping done! I haven’t even started! Looks like we will both be out on Christmas Eve getting our last minute gifts. I guess we just thrive under the pressure!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hehe I seriously think that’s what it is. I was the same when it came to homework, and the worst part about it is that my bad habits were always reinforced – everything turns out fine so I see no reason to change.
kris
I too will take roasted potatoes over sweet potatoes. yum! And that stick figure looks JUUUST like me after a grocery run. haha
I’m really iffy about uggs sometimes. I think other people wearing them look just fine, but for some reason when i wear them it’s not the same. I keep mine for super cold mornings and loungy days. (basically when i don’t have to see anyone in public π )
ahh, thanks for the reminder…i need to go holiday shopping. maybe i’ll just order everyone one of those alcohol breathalyzer. heehee
