Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Before we get to the randomness, I need to share one more amazing food combo that I didn’t include in yesterday’s WIAW post — Popchips and avocado…
You guys… Do not try this. Or do, but don’t blame me if you become obsessed and end up going through bags and bags of avocados and chips. Not that I speak from experience or anything π―
2. Speaking of bags of food… am I the only one who loves to dig straight to the bottom of a bag of cereal? Not because I’m looking for toys (do they still do that?!?!), but because that’s where all the sugary goodness settles. Hello, my name is Amanda and I’m a sugar addict… now pass me a spoon!
3. On to the randomness! Fun fact style π
1. Kind of changes the way you look at Nike, eh?
2. We have plenty in Canada!
3. I’ve heard this but I’m afraid to try it… I use fast-drying top coats instead.
4. … or why we turn down the radio when we’re going in reverse or looking for something?
5. Count me in among those 78%….
4. You know how I’m always saying that I have a really hard time sitting down and watching TV? Apparently this does not apply when it comes to old, old movies. Lately I’ve kind of fallen in love with movies from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. There’s just something about that era that I adore, and I love how the focus is more on the characters and storyline rather than flashy computer-generated graphics and special effects. I even managed to catch a good one with my mom when we were up in the mountains last weekend…
Stella Dallas, 1937.
5. Speaking of the mountains… a few pics from the trip! But first, a sign that made me laugh so hard I almost started crying…
I mean… did they really need to show a pic of a guy tumbling off a cliff in such a nonchalant way? π Anyways, on to the pics!
If I had my way, the mountains would stay like this forever — snowy on the slopes and summery down below. Late-season riding is my absolute favourite, and I wish it could be this way all year long so that I could go snowboarding whenever I wanted without having to deal with wintery conditions. Ohhhhh in a perfect world…
6. In a perfect world, I’d also remember to bring my shopping lists with me when I go to the grocery store. I had to restock some staples yesterday and, as always, I left my list on the kitchen counter. Miraculously, I still managed to make it home with everything I needed…
… plus a kabocha that I cut up and threw in the oven as soon as I walked through the door, and some ground chicken that I left out of the picture because… no one wants to look at that stuff.
7. Someone needs to smack me for buying a citrus-based chap stick. There’s nothing wrong with it other than the fact that it smells absolutely amazing and makes my mouth water whenever I put it on. Nice. I also picked up a mint chocolate one, which you would think would make me start salivating like one of Pavlov’s dogs (right, Arman?), but that one doesn’t seem to have the same effect. Odd.
8. Have you guys seen this?!?
It’s a site called Do Nothing For 2 Minutes, and the point is… well… to do nothing for 2 minutes. I guess it’s meant to help you take breaks and relax throughout the day by kind of forcing you to stop fiddling with your mouse and keyboard by slapping you with a nice big FAIL if you touch either before the two minutes are up. Interesting concept.
9. And on one final note… Spoons hit over 1000 likes on Facebook the other day! And I may or may not have done a small happy dance when I found out π Thank you guys so much for supporting my little corner of the web and letting me do something that I love — you seriously rock my socks off.

Heather @ PrettyHealthyMostoftheTime
I’ve never even had Popchips before so I just went out and bought some! I love them! Now I just need my avocados to hurry up and ripen …
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Did you try the Sour Cream and Onion kind? They’re my absolute favourite!
Heather
Whoa! They definitely didn’t have those. There was only regular and sea salt vinegar to choose from. I went with the regular because they sounded the best with guac!
Danielle
Haha I love that sign.. I would have totally taken a picture of it too.
Jodi
I am totally checking out the Do Nothing site!!
Mary Frances
Chips and avo … pretty much any chip bag has a life of 2.7 hours around me. I wish I was kidding. Haha, Nike, really? You’ve got to do better than that π And congrats on the likes!!
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
I’m really tempted to try the nail polish fact…but I would be so pissed if it didn’t work!
Those pictures are just gorgeous. I’m with you; going to the mountains in the spring is way better. Who wants to freeze their butt off just for a little extra powder? Not me.
Congrats on hitting 1,000 likes! I’m sure you will continue to get plenty more as time goes by. Especially with all of those delicious recipes you keep posting!
Ashley @MilesonOats
So if you’ve seen my post you’ll know I have no life and have been watching body builders “what I ate today” nonsense. Turns out they are kinda sorta brilliant because they’ve been eating those pop chips as “scoops” for their nachos and random “scoopage” requiring meals. Point being, after being intrigued by them and now convinced by you – I shall purchase a bag tomorrow and start poppin’
I feel guilty hording 3 kabochas that will more than likely collect dust. I wish shipping wasn’t so damn expensive so I could send them your way. In a perfect world you would be my neighbor so I could leave them on your doorstop and you could thank me by gifting me with that mint chocolate chap stick of yours. I would happily take it off your hands. Sounds damn good.
<3 you!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ohhh in a perfect world indeed. But… BLEND IN THREE WEEKS!!!! π
Lauren
LOVE the pictures of the mountains. I do love snowy peaks when the rest of the area is warm/hot. And I wonder if the Nika slogan fact is legit? It seems so morbid!
Lauren @ LoveChocolateLife
Omg I am constantly forgetting my list when I go to the grocery store I hate that !!!! And.. most of the times I forget essentials like body soap or something like that !! Grrrr !!! Your picture reminds me that i need to pick up more barneys i love the smooth stuff !!! Also, two minutes of nothing is hard when you actually try it !!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Riiiiight?! I was sitting there and I could have SWORN that every second was way longer than it should have been.
Phaedra @ Blisters and Black Toenails
Ha ha ha yes, count me in that 78% as well! And avocado on ANYTHING is amazing. π
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs
Happy Thursday!
Man, the mountains are gorgeous. I just love Banff π
Congrats for hitting 1,000 likes, that’s amazing! I’m nearing 200 and keep doing happy dances. Ha!
Karey @ Nutty About Health
I would willingly share some snow with those who have never seen it – we always get plenty here in WI!
The Nike slogan… is a bit off putting. π
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I fall in that 78% of women as well… it’s a sure fire way to keep me from making bad decisions π Congrats on the Facebook milestone!!! π
lindsay
try salt and vinegar pop chips and chocolate almond butter! i sweat it’s good!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That sounds so far out there that I’m extremely tempted to believe you. Trying it!
Kate @ Baking in Yoga Pants
Those pictures are absolutely stunning! Congratulations on getting to over 1,000 likes on Facebook! You know I love RWS π And I’m at approximately 64, so I would say that 1,000 is a huge testament to this amazing space that you hold!!
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch
Tell me your favorite old movies – I want to watch some but I never know where to start! They looks so wonderful and romantic, not even in a “love” way but just in the way they talk, move, etc.
Uhh I need to try that nail polish trick asap. That’s a huge problem for me so if it’s that easy that’d be miraculous. I’ll keep you posted! haha
Lauren @ Will Run for Boston
okay, I am cracking up over here because I’ve always thought that I’m the only one that does #2. Whenever I open a new box of cereal I turn the bag upside down and shake it so that all the sugary goodness at the bottom comes up to the top before I open it up! My husband always laughs at me but it really does make it taste better! π
Morganne @ NutButterRunner
Those views! Oh my goodness! Pure beauty!
Sadly, we are all out of kabochaβ¦no more for me.
CONGRATS on 1000 likes on FB!! Eeek! So exciting. I’m doing my happy dance with you!
Polly @ Tasty Food Project
I miss going up to the mountains! I love snowboarding but didn’t go at all this year since I was trying to save money.
Avocado is so delicious! I think I might get obsessed if I try it with Pop chips!
Sarah
Make that 1001. I don’t have a Facebook account so pretend I’m clicking Like.
Are those pictures of Banff? I have friends in Nelson, BC who regularly go to Banff. I have heard it is gorgeous. Your pictures attest to that.
Love those odd facts. I’m tempted to apply nail polish solely for the purpose of testing the ice water trick out. (Of course, the fact that it’s over 100 degrees may have something to do with ice water’s appeal…)
Sarah
I read today is officially Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. Just saying…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yup! That’s Banff π It’s probably one of my favourite little towns and I’d move there in a heartbeat if I could. And I can’t believeeeee I didn’t know it was Chocolate Chip Cookie day until I started blog reading this afternoon. Ugh! I think I need to bake up a batch to celebrate.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Pop Chips and avocado, huh? Yup that pretty much sounds amazing!! And I just happen to have Pop Chips in my pantry right now. Def need to pick up some avocado ASAP. I promise I won’t blame you when I become obsessed…which I know that I will π
ellie @ fit for the soul
Avocado can never be wrong in any shape or form, ever! Errr scratch that, it is pretty horrendous when it’s gone sour and bitter, actually. Haha, I wouldn’t know π Also, I looooove to see funny signs like that! There’s one right by our property that says “SLOW CHILDREN” with a child walking/running, but the funny thing is that punctuation makes that much of a difference. Greg says that he’s going to put my picture on that sign to insinuate that I’m….slow? Haha, that’s how we joke around.
Jaclyn @ BumpSweat
Beautiful pics of the mountains! Makes me want to leave for our vacation in the Adirondacks now.
Rebecca@RunningFoodBaby
I think I need to try that pop chip + avocado combo!
Erin @ The Almond Eater
Do nothing for 2 minutes… ya I’m pretty sure I’d be awful at that unless I was in yoga class or something. Making it home with all the groceries you needed is quite an accomplishment.. I’m SO bad at remembering if I don’t have a list.
Jo @ Living Mint Green
Hahaha mountain park signs kill me too. Calm down…
Are you going to Slush Cup in Banff this weekend??? I’m actually going to be in Banff at some point if you want to meet up.
Oh yes, I’m addicted to avocado & crackers – haven’t tried the Pop Chip combo yet, but I already know it’s deadly…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Arghhh I don’t know! I WANTED to hit up Banff again, but I don’t know if I can handle the drive two weeks in a row. Convince me!
Rebecca
I’ll pick an old-fashioned black and white movie over a modern-day box office hit any day. Sadly, I usually end up watching these either by myself or with my parents. People just don’t appreciate good film anymore! (Note, I’m basically already a senior citizen)
The Rockies look gorgeous. Glad you got to spend such a nice weekend with your mama.
Cassie
That pop chip + avocado combo looks dangerous(ly delish). The photos from your trip are beautiful… I really want to visit the Canadian Rockies!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Do eeeeeet! And convince Davs and Ang to come along!
Caitlin
And I love Nike running clothes π I’m more than a little horrified by where that logo originates. I love the idea of pop chips and avocado, though, and that sign?? Still cracking up π
Megan (The Lyons' Share)
Those pictures are just gorrrrgeous!!! WOW!
I’m so intrigued by the nail thing, since I don’t have the patience to let them dry fully most of the time. And congrats on 1000 likes!
Ang @ Nutty for Life
Congrats on the Facebook milestone, lady! That’s amazing. And that sign is soooo casual, I can’t believe it! Like oops he fell of the mountain. Sometimes I question those crazy facts.. I’d like to see them post their source! Did Nike reallllllly get their motto that way? I feel like they can’t have, it’s so brutal! But maybe, I dunno.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve actually gone and researched a lot of the facts and almost all of them proved to be true. Insanity.
Amy@Long Drive Journey
Congrats on the likes! You know I’m your stalker because I pointed out how close you were to 1000 last week π
The ice water and nails thing really does work. I do it all the time (learned about it on a show called “A Dating Story” back when I was like 10). You need to put your hands in slowly, though, or the tips will smudge.
