Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Before we get to the randomness, I need to share one more amazing food combo that I didn’t include in yesterday’s WIAW post — Popchips and avocado…
You guys… Do not try this. Or do, but don’t blame me if you become obsessed and end up going through bags and bags of avocados and chips. Not that I speak from experience or anything π―
2. Speaking of bags of food… am I the only one who loves to dig straight to the bottom of a bag of cereal? Not because I’m looking for toys (do they still do that?!?!), but because that’s where all the sugary goodness settles. Hello, my name is Amanda and I’m a sugar addict… now pass me a spoon!
3. On to the randomness! Fun fact style π
1. Kind of changes the way you look at Nike, eh?
2. We have plenty in Canada!
3. I’ve heard this but I’m afraid to try it… I use fast-drying top coats instead.
4. … or why we turn down the radio when we’re going in reverse or looking for something?
5. Count me in among those 78%….
4. You know how I’m always saying that I have a really hard time sitting down and watching TV? Apparently this does not apply when it comes to old, old movies. Lately I’ve kind of fallen in love with movies from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. There’s just something about that era that I adore, and I love how the focus is more on the characters and storyline rather than flashy computer-generated graphics and special effects. I even managed to catch a good one with my mom when we were up in the mountains last weekend…
Stella Dallas, 1937.
5. Speaking of the mountains… a few pics from the trip! But first, a sign that made me laugh so hard I almost started crying…
I mean… did they really need to show a pic of a guy tumbling off a cliff in such a nonchalant way? π Anyways, on to the pics!
If I had my way, the mountains would stay like this forever — snowy on the slopes and summery down below. Late-season riding is my absolute favourite, and I wish it could be this way all year long so that I could go snowboarding whenever I wanted without having to deal with wintery conditions. Ohhhhh in a perfect world…
6. In a perfect world, I’d also remember to bring my shopping lists with me when I go to the grocery store. I had to restock some staples yesterday and, as always, I left my list on the kitchen counter. Miraculously, I still managed to make it home with everything I needed…
… plus a kabocha that I cut up and threw in the oven as soon as I walked through the door, and some ground chicken that I left out of the picture because… no one wants to look at that stuff.
7. Someone needs to smack me for buying a citrus-based chap stick. There’s nothing wrong with it other than the fact that it smells absolutely amazing and makes my mouth water whenever I put it on. Nice. I also picked up a mint chocolate one, which you would think would make me start salivating like one of Pavlov’s dogs (right, Arman?), but that one doesn’t seem to have the same effect. Odd.
8. Have you guys seen this?!?
It’s a site called Do Nothing For 2 Minutes, and the point is… well… to do nothing for 2 minutes. I guess it’s meant to help you take breaks and relax throughout the day by kind of forcing you to stop fiddling with your mouse and keyboard by slapping you with a nice big FAIL if you touch either before the two minutes are up. Interesting concept.
9. And on one final note… Spoons hit over 1000 likes on Facebook the other day! And I may or may not have done a small happy dance when I found out π Thank you guys so much for supporting my little corner of the web and letting me do something that I love — you seriously rock my socks off.

Canadians are so strange. Like who exactly are those signs supposed to be targeting?! I’m pretty sure anyone tumbling over the edge is not doing it on purpose. I think that may have sealed my “I need to move to America deal”
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
But don’t forget… Kinder Surprise eggs are illegal in America because apparently American kids need to be protected from the choking hazard of the toy π
Anna
The music/vision fact is SO accurate now that I think about it. Crazy!
Congrats on reaching 1000 girl! Well deserved π
cait @pieceofcait
MMM avo & pop chips, plus a little sriracha sauce. BOOM! π
Megan @ The Skinny-Life
Congratulations on the Facebook front girl! I love your randomness. I’m very random so I can absolutely relate. I can’t believe that’s true about Nike. Crazy! Your mountain pics are beautiful. I bet it was so relaxing too!
Leslie
Ya know, I haven’t found a toy in cereal in years! It’s depressing. I tried guac for the first time a couple weekends ago, oh my god! What have I been missing! I love chap-stick & I can’t have something that smells good because I lick it off, thus defeating the purpose of chap-stick. So I get some kind of gross mint (I hate mint), weird. Beautiful photo’s!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think they took them out because of the choking hazard π I miss them, though! I remember buying cereal I didn’t even like JUST because it had a good toy!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
haha…that sign is priceless! The mountains are absolutely gorgeous! Surprisingly, I have never seen mountains like that in person before. This is definitely something that needs to change sooner rather than later. I can only imagine how breathtaking they are in person.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
Wow! Breathtaking photos!
Aaaand that PopChip + avocado combo sounds incredible. I could understand why you are obsessed… π
Amanda @runtothefinish
OMG that sign is freaking the best thing ever.
really 2/3 now snow?! I’m not sure I think they are missing out because I hate the cold…but the mountains are pretty so if they could see snow there then cool
Nichole
Oh my that sign is just too funny!!!!!! Your pictures of the mountains are gorgeous!<3 I am telling my mom about that do nothing site! I feel she needs that in her life! Such an interesting concept. And I am so going to be trying that foodie combo…. I love avocado and anything with it! So it's a must!
Shannon
Avocados and pop chips are SUCH a great combo! I also found egg salad and pop chips go well together. (I’m a huge fan of eggs… so I obviously have to find any crunch that will pair nicely with them).
Your photos are lovely π Looks like you had a great trip!
And congrats on 1000 likes! Yippee!
Jenna
Fact: I have never tried popchips before. But i’ll eat avocado on anything so I can imagine it can be pretty addicting. I LOVE old movies! And the mountains look beautiful! I just cannot imagine being anywhere there is snow yet though…I’m still bitter hahaha!
Miss Polkadot
Yay! Letβs raise the glass.. spoon (?!) to celebrate you breaking the magical 1000 likes! Congratulations!
Now onto the randomness. Hm, I wonder if my friend working for Nike knew this odd bit of information. Also, Iβd heard of the ice water trick but have yet to try it because Iβm skeptical. Does that mean water with ice cubes? Or just really really cold? How about you try and report back ;)?!
That sign is really… interesting. And is it just me or does the cliff that guyβs falling from shaped like the silhouette of a face?? Also, there are some errors in the German translation [why, yes, I’m a grammar nerd].
And about those cereal bags: Iβm tempted to go and buy a bag just for a toy now. Actually, no, only if itβs one of those awesome spoons changing their colour in hot milk. Because spoons were clearly the best add-in ever. Only my mum decided to get rid of them in an unobserved moment at some point.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You guys still have toys? Oh man! Not fair! We don’t have them anymore I think… something about a choking hazard π And I’m very, very tempted to try the cold water trick. I probably will for next week’s ToL π
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Do you find Barney Butter on the regular out there? I’ve stumbled across it once here in a Marshall’s…get on that Ontario.
And you’ve officially inspired a PopChips craving! It’s been way, way too long since I had any of those.
Oh, and Eric and I watched Psycho earlier this week, which was released in 1960. It was actually a really, really good movie! Although, the special effects just make me laugh…like the scene where a guy is falling down the stairs. Storyline-wise though, brilliant!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yup! One of our bigger grocery store chains stocks it on the regular, and you can find it in Winners sometimes too.
Heather @fitncookies
I’m also nervous to try the cold water thing. Maybe Ill test it out this weekend, haha. I love the pictures of the mountain. Oh my they are beautiful like that! We don’t have mountains around here so I’ve never seen snow at the top but summer on the bottom. Absolutely breathtaking. I hate when I forget my grocery list!! There’s always that one thing I really need for a dinner and I forget. Darnit ha
Hollie
I’ll try the nail polish and let you know because…well my nails normally take about five times to get right anyways so might as well. Avocado just makes everything better I think.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Someone mentioned that cookie spray works as well. Sounds crazy, but I want to try it!
Lisa @ Running out of Wine
That sign is pretty ridiculous! But the other pictures are amazing.
I really don’t know if I could do nothing for 2 minutes. Especially with my phone right there in front of me…I would definitely end up trying to look at instagram or something.
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
Oh manβ¦pop chips and avocado sounds very dangerous. Almost as dangerous as those cliffs! But those mountain views make me want to cry of joy AND sadness because I can’t be there.
Good citrus-smelling beauty products are my absolute favorite. I used to be obsessed with this orange ginger lotion from Bath and Body Works. I swore it was the best scent in the whole world.
Tiff @ Love, Sweat & Beers
Ha! I hate it when the hubby throws out the last bit of crumbs of cereal. I’m like, nooooooo, the sugaaarrrrrrr!!
Congrats on the facebook likes Ms. Popular π
Meg @ A Dash of Meg
awww well congrats on the FB milestone! π
Susie @ SuzLyfe
They still put little stickers in theft boxes of cracker jack but alas I think cereal toys got phased out as “choking hazards ” or some other nonsense. Dumb, if you ask me. One of my favorite signs/warnings is the one for tractors where someonf is literally wrapped around the thing (for mowing attachments) it’s hilarious.
Tina Muir
Wow those pictures are breathtaking! I am so jealous of your life!!! I definitely want to try the 2:00 thing, sounds simple, but I bet I would struggle! Avocado seems to go with anything! Yum yum!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Don’t be jealous! I can’t run like you can π
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
I’m still so jealous you can get Barney Butter out there! Come on Ontario, I thought you were supposed to be the most Americanized province. You’re letting me down!
LOVE that brand of lip chaps! I have the vanilla coconut one and it’s amazing.
Chelsea
Baahaha we went on a rather clift-falling-off-highly-likely hike while in Lunenburg NS and there was a very similar sign π it made us laugh too. In retrospect, it probably should have made us consider what type of hime we were about to take…but hindsight is 20/20, right?! π happy Thursday!
Livi
Putting my fingers in water would scare me! I don’t want to mess it up after all that hard work!
BUT what I do, and it definitely works, is to spray cooking spray (I’ve used both PAM and Coconut Oil Spray) all over the nails right after painting, and they are TOTALLY dry! It’s probably one of the coolest things Ive learned..ever haha!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Omg no kidding! Definitely trying that!
Jenn@ Mark My Miles!
I love that combo of crackers and avocado. Crunchy and creamy!
Congrats on making it to 1000 likes on Facebook!!!! I think I have maybe 1 likeβ¦.
jill conyers
Love your randomness. Just do it? Really? Have you tried avocado with Mary’s Gone Crackers? It is the most amazing avo snack ever! Do nothing for 2 minutes intimidates me but I’m going to try.
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
I’ve tried the nail trick and it actually worked pretty well! Love the mountain pics. Hope you week is going great!
Khushboo
I’m yet to find something carby that avocado DOESN’T pair well with – you just can’t go wrong with that creamy deliciousness! Gah I wish we had mountains in Mumbai- even though I don’t snowboard, I’d happily get lost just staring at that kind of beauty. A huge congrats to you on hitting 1,000 likes- apparently I am yet to like it so I will be doing right after I hit “Submit”! Also I need to try that polish/ice water trick but part of me is very nervous- I don’t know if it’s worth risking an otherwise perfectly good manicure. I might have to hold on to my trusted can of Quick Dry spray for a bit longer ;)!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You could always test the waters (har har!) with one finger first! Or I could do it and tell you if it works π
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
I wish I could do the 2 minutes of nothing but I think I would be terrible at it! My mind would start to wonder, I would start planning, organising etc etc.
Love the random facts! And the last one… Who are the 22% who would!!??
Lauren
Those pictures of the mountain look so bloody beautiful! I have never been anywhere like that and I rally want to! I was I could magic the funds to Canada, there are a few people now I want to see over there and places like those pictures to see!! I could do with being still – my mind has been in overdrive lately! I wish they did almond butter that size over in the UK. They only have tiny jars half that size for which I can get through in like 3 days…ha!
Pickyrunner
I kind of want to try the nail polish thing. That’s mind blowing if it actually works but I feel like everybody would know about it by now if that were the case. Who knows. And spring skiing (boarding) is the best. I used to love when it was 65 degrees out and we could wear long sleeve t shirts out on the slopes. And the snow is so much softer. Sadly I haven’t been able to go on one of those trips in years since I’m at school and my fam goes without me. It is always a good time when the snow makes it into the April months
Michele @paleorunningmomm
I used to leave my list at home every time so I started using a shopping list app and I love it! And yes that sign is a little creepy!
Victoria
haha I so dig to the bottom of the cereal box π lately though with the amount I’m eating due to cravings I don’t have to do much digging, the bottom appears by itself pretty quick O_o π #extremehungerproblems #sorrynotsorry
the pictures of your mountain trip look amazing! So glad you had a great time π though I am (not so) secretly jealous as I’d love a mountain getaway right now, to a particular one in Scotland haha but oh well, glad you and your Mom had a good trip.
And oh wow I could not do that 2 minute challenge. I can’t sit still for 2 minutes let alone not touch anything for 2 minutes haha, maybe I should try it it might help me embrace the rest a bit better π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The only reason I was able to do it was because I wanted to see what happened when I succeeded π Otherwise those 2 minutes feel like they take FOREVER. And girl… I’m right there with you with the cereal cravings π―
Shashi @ RunninSrilankan
Wow- I don’t like snow but hose pictures of those slopes are just breathtaking! And that sign is hilarious!
Uber facts(#4) – drives my daughter nuts when I turn the radio down every time we get off at an exit!
One random fact that’s going through my brain every time I contemplate nothing is sleep is so underrated – and I want ALL the sleep I can get now!
Happy TOL Thursday <3
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Why do you keep offending me? I thought you only salivated like Pavlov’s dog when you thought of me (like any normal person would….). That means peanut butter is on the menu tonight. Deal with it.
You should get fashion advice from those movies. You’d rock those dresses. But how funny are their accents- easily the best part ha! Also, I would have preferred to see the ground chicken. Just saying.
Lucie@FitSwissChick
Oh yes the toys in the cereal packs!! Loved them. We still have 1-person-Chips-bags with toys in it. You bet I buy them every other week.
It looks so beautiful in the Rockies (this picture cracks me up π π ) – I want to visit you NOW!!
Congrats for the Facebook likes Hunn!! Happy for you!!
Jan @ sprouts n squats
That sign is priceless! π There are so many stupid signs out there that just make you laugh. Love all the beautiful mountain pictures, so pretty!
I can’t believe that about the Nike slogan, it is really all kinds of wrong! I will never think of them in the same way again.
Congratulations on 1000 likes on Facebook that is an awesome achievement π
Random thoughts, here in Melbourne we have a big moon tonight that looks like a big cheese, literally! I am really really really looking forward to going away next weekend and having a long weekend. I need to repaint my nails but I’ve been saying it for a week and I’m pretty meh about getting motivated to do it! Finally I’m excited to have jumped on board the Thinking Out Loud train this week it has been too long!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ugh don’t even get me started on the nails! I keep meaning to do mine too, but somehow I never find the time… I need a little colour in my life though, since it’s been so grey and nasty outside.
