Welcome to what may very well be my favourite day of the blogging week 😀
1. Before we get going with the more lighthearted randomness this week, I wanted to address something I mentioned in last week’s post. Getting blood drawn. I’m happy to report that I managed to survive without fainting, so thank you to everyone who suggested ways to make the experience a little less traumatizing. I also wanted to mention that what helped the most was popping in a pair of earbuds and listening to really loud angry music… it was the perfect distraction. My biggest complaint is that they didn’t even give me a lolli or cute band-aid once the whole ordeal was over. I’d show you a picture of my battle wound, but it kind of makes me queasy so here’s an adorable teddy instead. That makes me smile.
2. So does this… I hope it’s true!
3. Can we talk #bloggerproblems for a second? I’m not sure if this ever happens to anyone else or if I’m just crazy, but I spend almost every day thinking it’s the next day — Mondays are Tuesdays, Tuesdays are Wednesdays, etc, etc. Let me explain. I always write my posts the day before they go up, and I’ll usually randomly pick away at them throughout the day rather than wait until the evening to write them in one go. It works for the most part, but it also means that I’m constantly operating under the impression that it’s the next day… which can get a little confusing.
4. While we’re on the topic of blogging, guess where I’m [currently] writing this post from…
Yep. I’m back in Starbucks after cutting myself off for a few months. I know it’s kind of ill-timed considering I just stocked up on K-cups, but I really needed to get out of the house in the morning. As much as I enjoy working from home, I’ll be the first to admit that you start to go a little stir crazy after a while. The change in scenery and human interaction is always welcome, as is the caffeine-saturated air 😀
5. One more blog related order of business that isn’t really blog related but I’m classifying it as such because I need a legit justification. Lost? Don’t worry about it — me too. Anyways… I desperately need a new phone, and by desperately need I really mean there’s nothing wrong with my current one other than the fact that it’s old and gotten so slow that I don’t even want to open things like Twitter and Instagram anymore (which I totally use for work purposes) because they take forEVER to load. I’m due for an upgrade from my provider in August, and I’m trying to hold out until then, but I don’t know how much longer I can handle seeing people flashing their fancy 5s while I’m here rockin’ my 4. Not even the s… just the 4.
6. That was kind of a long rant so here’s a shorter one… I redid my Facebook cover!
Do you follow Spoons on FB? You should! Even though it drives me crazy because they keep changing their algorithms on me and I can never figure out what makes a good post vs. a bad one 😡
7. This may be the most random thing ever but… I really want a wooden spoon to chase people with cook with. There’s just something about having one that seems so much more artsy and legit. I’d also really like to learn how to eat with chopsticks, but I would probably have to do it on a day where I wasn’t feeling very hungry. Until then I’ll be sticking to my beloved spoons…
… which are better for chocolate smoothies anyways 😉
8. Also incredibly random? Apparently I like to collect hotel keycards…
9. This is not something you want to find on your pre-washed spinach after you’ve already eaten half of it…
… a colony of orange somethings. Don’t tell me what they are — I’d rather not know. Just pray for me 😆
10. I’ve had a few people tell me they’ve been having problems accessing Spoons on their iPhones and iPads… Has anyone been experiencing the same thing? And does anyone know why or what can be done to fix it? I’m kind of clueless when it comes to misbehaving technology…

Always a day ahead? TOTALLY understand. I tried to explain it to someone the other day, and they had NO concept of it. #bloggerproblems
I keep hotel keys. It’s not that I don’t want to return them – it’s just that I forget. Every single time. They also usually end up staying in my purse until my next trip – when I want to clean out my purse so I’m not carrying junk (aka – hotel keys from other hotels) on a trip.
You bring sunshine into my life 🙂 (In a not-creepy-blogger-stalker-kinda-way)
Listening to music while getting blood drawn is a great idea!!!! I’ve never been freaked out by needles, but that’s a good one to remember for my friends who are 🙂
HAPPY THURSDAY!
Cassie
I seriously need to get it together (pun not intended) on Wednesday and do a TOL post because I LOVE reading everyone’s.
If you ever have Facebook algorithm questions, e-mail me. I work with Facebook a lot for work so usually I have a decent grasp on what’s going on with it.
Chopstick life hack – use a rubberband/hair-tie on the top to hold them together. It’s actually a hand muscle you have to develop, isn’t that crazy? That’s how little (western) kids learned in Hong Kong!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
IF I have questions?! Girl! I wouldn’t even know where to begin! Definitely going to take you up on that offer though. Social media is a nightmare for me.
Becky @ Olives n Wine
I actually did have issues accessing your site yesterday! Thankfully I’m persistent and just continued to hit refresh until it worked 😉 No idea how to fix it though… The spinach – gross. Think of it as extra protein, lol! And for hotel room keys, I get so mad at Kyle when he does that! I read a statistic last year that we will over 10 landfills a year by not turning in hotel keys! Crazy, right?! Whenever he does that? I throw it into my suitcase and leave it at the same brand of hotel when I visit again 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😯 I actually had no idea. But I don’t throw mine out! I keep them for the memories! And do they actually reuse them or toss them out? Because a lot of hotels don’t even want them back…
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne
I have trouble remember what day it is some weeks. Because sometimes I feel like everyday is Wednesday. Or like this week, I thought everyday was Friday, except today, I’m aware it’s Thursday haha. I have big wooden spoons for cooking/baking! I swear everything taste better with them!
Brynn
any time I have blood drawn I listen to music. I am a total wimp about it so distracting myself helps a lot.
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
This week, especially, I’ve been thinking that it was actually the next day. For instance, when I woke up this morning, I was sure it was Friday! Then I realized it was only Thursday…ugh, what a bummer! I hate when that happens!
And that yellow stuff on your spinach makes me feel like I should wash every leaf individually. Obviously, that wouldn’t be practically, but geez…how annoying!
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
Eww that spinach. I don’t even want to know what can be found in the non pre – washed kind (which I eat all the time unwashed…oops). I’m a Starbucks gold member now so I officially feel loyal when I buy something from there. It removes some of the guilt about spending more money on something that I shouldn’t haha.
Emma @ Life's A Runner
I know how you feel! Up until a year ago I still had the THREE – at that point my phone had decided that apparently 85% was a good place to die – not.
Come visit my coffee shop once in a while! I promise that we won’t try to kill you with any food – just make you swoon over delicious liquid gold. 🙂
Shashi
Thursdays have been one of my fav days too! I so missed linking up on Thinking out loud today…but hope to join in next week. As for that spinach – I am praying for you, dear – but you gotta find out what that is…I have been coming across some weird articles on intestinal issues related to the ingesting of weird organisms…and I will stop there!
I have been avoiding Starbucks too – I have a total of 7 bags/tins of coffee around my house and I have been trying to work my way thru those – but I can totally get the need for human interaction …aaaaand now I want a Venti Mocha!
I have been having trouble commenting – but I thought that was issues on my end…I did delete cookies on my end…not sure what else could be wrong.
#2 – Girl – THAT IS SO SO TRUE! You bring so much sunshine into the lives of those who read your blog! I am truly glad to have met you on here – I love all your topics – you are one of the most helpful, non judgmental and just all around nice bloggers around!
Hope you have a wonderful Friday – er, I meant Thursday 😉 lovely lady!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Aww Shashi — I hope that you know I feel the same way about you <3 And I'm trying not to think about the spinach... but I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more strange stowaways. As for the commenting, Akismet was putting some of your comments in spam for some reason, but I think I've managed to sort that out <3
Ang @ Nutty for Life
Uhhhh that spinach just made me want to throw up a little. I am definitely going to check my spinach from now on.. omg. Reading this brought sunshine into my life so there ya go 🙂
Sarah @pickyrunner
Oh man I know what you mean with the iPhone. I just updated to the 5s from the regular 4 and the camera for one is a huge difference, but the speed is amazing to me. I didn’t realize how bad my phone was (except I knew it was really bad when it took 10 minutes to load facebook) until I got a new one. I think it’s worth it for a new one. And I TOTALLY get confused by the day of the week. I’m always at least a day or two ahead. Blogging gets confusing sometimes…
Maria @ Pappa Don't Preach
I always write my posts the evening before as well, so I totally feel you on getting your days all jumbled! I try to avoid using words like, “tonight” or “yesterday” because once the post is published, it’s inaccurate!
I know a lot of people are afraid of getting blood drawn but it’s never bothered me. Needles in general don’t, but I definitely cannot look at them doing it. I’m a nurse’s dream though – my veins are always popping, ready to go!! They love it!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
See that’s the thing! Mine are too and I’ve never had any problems with them needing to dig around, so I’m not even sure where my huge fear comes from…
Pip {Cherries & Chisme}
I do kinda love that you are back in Starbucks – that’s where I wrote my whole dissertation from, I think there’s just something about that coffee shop buzz that makes (I just wrote bakes…cake on the brain!) for a perfect work environment 🙂
I still have my iPhone 4 too! And want to replace it when I am back in the UK this summer, please do let us know what you end up getting, you can review it for me! The worst is when you are uploading stuff onto Facebook on it and it crashes halfway through *groan*
Susie
Good job getting your blood drawn! I’m pretty much a pro now, but te first time I got an allergy shot I nearly passed out. I love cooking with my wooden spoon-doesn’t burn and is so much better for your pans. And sufficient to scare and threaten Alex with. Or the cat.
And yes, I always think it is the next day of the week, but as I don’t have a job right now, at least I know what day it (almost) is!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Ugh, so remember how I’ve been talking about getting a new phone since…like…September? Ya, I’ll get on that eventually. Dammit Koodo racks up ‘points’ towards a new phone so slowly. And something else that I’m excited about with warm weather – I can ride my bike to one of the coffee shops downtown some days. Yay getting out of the apartment!
I spent most of yesterday thinking that it was Thursday due to post-writing, so yup…definitely understand :-p
I have like 4 wooden spoons, I think? For some reason, whenever I bake I absolutely must stir things with a wooden spoon…it just feels so much more legit that way.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You neeeeeed to get an iPhone so that I can finally talk to you through iMessage and spam you with emojis! And I’ll be going out to buy a wooden spoon stat, unless you want to share the wealth 😉
Kim @ Racing Bananas
I usually write my posts the night before too – which is fine until I wake up the next morning just a little confused about what day it is! And I fully support your getting a wooden spoon – it’s necessary for the kitchen!
lindsay
i love my wooden spoon! i feel so old fashioned. and the orange things in spinach.. uh.. gold? let’s go with that. now youre worth more than you think.. hehe
Heather @fitncookies
Eww that spinach is gross! Wish I knew what to tell you with the blog not showing up 🙁 I am so bad with technology. It always shows up for me! Love the new FB cover. I’m bad at using FB for things. I stick to Twitter mostly. Hear ya with the days getting mixed up, anddd could you please get a wooden spoon, chase somethinggg and show us a video?! It’d probably make my month:)
Kate @ Baking in Yoga Pants
I love your new Facebook cover! And I am not tech savvy in the week, but your blog uploaded wonderfully on my iPad this morning so hopefully whatever it was that was happening is fixed now 🙂 And you definitely bring sunshine into our lives. So your fortune is right on!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
Glad to hear in #1 that things went swimmingly! And your fortune has definitely already come true 🙂
I totally get you on thinking it’s one day ahead. I only write my posts at night, which means the confusion sets in the night before, but I guess it’s better to think ahead than behind for the sake of schoolwork! 😉
We have a wooden spoon that is falling apart, but I do love cooking with it. I especially love to stir batters with it! So Julia Child-esque.
Have a great day, Amanda!
Jess @dearhealthyness
The 4 feeling… I totally get it!! It can be soooo slow that all you want to do is smash it! I updated last week to the 5s and it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fast, that I don’t want to smash it! I have a good laugh at this!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Way to rub it in 😛
Hollie
The facebook algorithims blow my mind. I truly do not understand them at all. It’s all good though.
Sorry you found a colony of orange things on your spinach. I don’t really know what I would do (nor do I really want to know either). I generally write my posts the day and night before as well.
Tina Muir
Okay, that spinach thing is creepy….I do not even want to know how many bugs I have eaten through produce in my life, eugh!
I am definitely the same when it comes to thinking a day ahead. Although I sometimes forget to do a final check that night, and wake up really early that morning flustered in case I have made errors!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
OMG I never know what day it is because I am always thinking a day (or two) ahead with the blog. Even if I don’t write a full post until the day of, the plans are in the works leaving me all sorts of calendar confused…I don’t even know how you are using the phone still – my iPhone 4 basically stopped working once the big update hit in the fall so I had no choice but to replace it then….I totally agree with working from somewhere other than home, I get so stir crazy these days and then constantly think it’s meal time since I am near the kitchen.
Emily
My phone photo stream is filled with random pics from where I’m like, “ooh, I should take a picture of that for the blog!” and then I never use the pic or write about it. I’ve run out of iCloud storage two weeks ago because I don’t want to delete anything.
Kim @ FITsique
Ook whatever is on your spinach makes me want to throw up. I am impressed you found it. Me on the other hand pays no attention and INHALES my food and would have eaten said yellow-orange eggy looking things yuck. You bring sunshine into my life already 🙂 I love reading your page!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Awwr thanks girl! And finding those things was just chance — usually I don’t pay attention, and to be honest, I probably won’t be paying much more attention now either 😆
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
Ahhh, my favorite day of the week too! Glad to hear you’re recovering well from the traumatic blood draw experience. I never liked having to get it shots and whatnot, but my mom had me convinced early on that it was sooooo much better to just get a shot and be done with it than to have to take medicine for-freakin-ever…so I guess I just got used to needles. And now that I work on the OTHER side of them, I’m just not really phased anymore. But I still don’t see how some people can watch! 😯
I totally hear ya on the iPhone problems! I had a 4…not even a 4s as well and it was as slow as molasses! You can do it girl…August isn’t THAT far away! 🙂
And omg, yes to the days of the week confusion…even MORE so since I work the night shift! I know I’ve messed up a couple of times and even published a blog post a day ahead of THAT! Yeah, that’s a good way to make you feel like a moron! Haha!
PS, Eeeeeeek to the spinach! But really, I’m sure those orange somethings (chuckle) are just another good source of protein! Good thing you’re not vegan, right? Haha!
Ksenija @ With An Open Mind
Oh don’t even start on the whole how to best make a blog accessible for all kinds of mobile devices. I thought I would solve the problem by simply making a responsive theme (which I am working on currently), so don’t tell me that you do have problems even though you use Thesis which is supposed to be responsive, or am I wrong? Too much to handle before coffee… But don’t they have a support forum which could help you out with the problem?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
See that’s the weird thing — I haven’t had any problems until a few days ago. And the weirdest thing is that some people have them and some don’t, so I don’t know what the heck is going on. I check it on my own devices and it’s fine. Ugh. I hate technology [problems] 😡
Megan @ Meg Go Run
Sometimes I write my posts the day beforehand but only if it’s a post about something currently going on in my life. If it’s something that can be posted pretty much any time, well, I like to have several of those hanging around in my draft folder! If I am not like a week ahead of schedule, I feel like I am behind. That’s exactly how I was in grad school, too!
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
Snap! I work from home but twice a week I head to starbucks to work, just to have some company/ noise/ human interaction!!! That plus great coffee is always a winner.
I have like 5 wooden spoons and use them for cooking all the time! Is it an old fashioned thing or are us scots just behind the times with our utensils!?
Ps The scots will always use a wooden spoon for their oats, it’s the law!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It might be a little old school, but you know how fashion is! Always repeating itself 😀 I’m pretty sure the chefs in every single cooking show I watch use wooden spoons…
Lori Delgado
Hi Amanda I love your blog and recipes;) I also have noticed lately some days on my iPad I only get your header but it’s not every day? Hope you can figure out the problem. Love your cute lil teddy
Lucie@FitSwissChick
You bring sunshine to MY life everyday love!
And I crave that chocolate smoothie now, really. I have so many recipes I want to make, but with my current chaotic life due to the changes, I lack.
I love to collect keycards as well! Somehow they bring back nice memories of nice vacations.
Lauren-Kate
You deffo bring sunshine into my life with all your great posts 🙂
Well done on the blood taking front. I am not a fan of it either – they can never find my veins…
I am really bad with chopsticks. I always end up asking for a fork otherwise it would take me an age to finish a rice dish.
Ms.J
I’ll have you know that you’ve brought sunshine into half the populations lives already 🙂 . Ohmygoose, the amount off times I’ve picked bugs from my “washes” salad greens -on my plate!- and said a silent prayer….! We live dangerously.
Well done you on getting through the blood test. I’m rather thankful you decided against showing us your wound! I hope you went and got yourself a Disney Band-Aid and a lolli after that act of bravery.
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Oh hai. From last commenter to an early one 😉
You can have some of my wooden spoons- All the ones my mama chased me with. And hi5 for being on the 4 bandwagon…let’s just wait for the 6 to come. Wait, is 6 the newest one to come?
Regarding #10- I asked my IT friend who said- You need to regularly clear out your caches on your Safari browser AND the browser you regularly post from.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m definitely going to try holding out for the 6 to come. And I’m going to have to pick your brain about the cache thing… Hurry up and wake up!
