Heyyy, hey and welcome to Friday’s Friday… also known as Thursday 😉
1. First order of business — tickets for Blend 2014 go on sale this Sunday (February 16th) at 8 PM EST. Be there or be square. Kidding… sort of. Really, though? Please be there so that I can crush your ribs in a hug (note: my upper body strength is laughable and no rib crushing will actually occur).
2. Second order of business — WHY is there no Canadian flag in Emoji?!? I was talking about the Olympics with a friend via text the other night, and when I went to insert a little Canadian flag to celebrate one of our golds, it was nowhere to be found! What.in.the.eff?!? I’d feel insulted, but I’m Canadian and we’re too easy-going to get worked up about stuff like this…
3. Also… what.the.heck is this?!? 😯
I always buy those tubs of pre washed mixed baby greens to toss in my salads, and my last one contained that creepy spiny thing. Never a dull moment in the Spoons kitchen!
4. Speaking of the Spoons kitchen… look what I did! I baked a banana
I’ve been a little too lax with my banana supply lately, and one of the dangers of doing this is that you sometimes find yourself in a position where the only available bananas are green 😯 Since I can’t go a day without one and I refuse to eat them when they’re all starchy and nasty, I decided to put the super-speedy-banana-ripening-method to the test. Verdict? It works! Maybe not quite as well as the natural way, but well enough in a pinch. The weirdest part? The skin was still yellow when I took it out of the oven, but slowly turned brown over the next few hours. Weird.
5. You know what’s embarrassing (besides still not being able to spell embarrassing)? I was putting on my makeup the other day, when the phone rang towards the end of my application. I went to answer it, chatted for a little bit, and in the process, forgot that I wasn’t done with my makeup. I was all ready to walk out the door when I took one final look in the mirror only to realize that I had only put mascara on one set of eyelashes 😯 This is why I don’t talk on the phone… and why I have a mirror hanging in the hallway by my front door.
6. Also embarrassing? I burned the inside of my nose by smelling soup… and by burned I mean burned — I was sitting there with cotton balls soaked in apple cider vinegar in my nose for a good 20 minutes. How’d I manage such an impressive feat? Because I’m Amanda, and these kind of things happen to me more often than I care to admit. But I just wanted to see if my soup smelled good! So I took the lid off, stuck my face over the pot, and all the steam came rushing out after about 1.4 seconds, scorching my nostrils in the process 😯 Thankfully I didn’t burn any of the skin on my face, but yeah… don’t do that.
7. On a happier note, how.freaking.cute are these Despicable Me playing cards that I picked up on my trip to Universal Studios? Ridiculous.
8. On a sadder note, I finished up the last of my almond butter and pretzel truffles 😥 😥 Buuuuuut I guess that’s just more reason to get back in the kitchen and bake up something new 😀
9. There is no spoon #9 (name that movie!)
10. Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day! I have no idea what my plans are (the joys of being in a long distance military relationship), so if you find yourself in need of a Valentine, don’t be shy and hit me up 😀

you burned the inside of your nose?!? That is embarrassing! In other news I put my niece’s diaper on backwards….
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne
Okay, now I’m wondering the same thing, and am comtemplating emailing apple to ask why there is no Canadian flag!!! I hope they aren’t considering it part of the US, because you guys have your own flag (which I love btw) and deserve your own haha. Love those cards!! Especially the unicorn one :). Thank god you didn’t burn your face! You would have thought that you would have burned your fave before your nostrils haha.
Alex @ therunwithin
girl your rambles make me so happy and such a nice way to start my day. I so wish I could be at blend, you don’t understand how much I would kill to hug you in person. I think you know that. second, that is scary you found that in greens. I mean I know it happens, but still. ouch!!! despicable me cards, now that is just adorable.
Krista @ Tiny n Fit
Ahh my mom is upset there is not Canadian flag, too! She is Hungarian but immigrated and became a Canadian citizen before moving to the states in her late teens. She considers herself more Canadian and American 🙂 And I forgot to pick up pretzels before being snowed in DC today, could’ve made those truffles! Next time 🙂 Only thing on my mind is SNOW!! I know you get tons, I just love it 🙂 Happy Thursday!
Tamara
The Matrix!
I need those cards…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yay! 😀 You’re the first one who guessed.
Tamara
Yay! I thought so… and I was so surprised! xo
Brittany
I would MUCH rather find a twig thing in my produce than a bug or…A SLUG! no no no. I will be baking today and making energy bites for my Valentine. I struggle with spelling the most random words, thank God for auto correct!! I am bringing your amazing muffin/brownies (they are legit like a brownie to me) to work today for a few birthdays. I am so jazzed for them to taste some GF/DF treats!! BOOYA!
Chelsea
baking bananas? This blows my mind! (and sounds slightly dirty..)
I have never burned my nostrils on soup – but I have been overly excited about baking and reached in the oven without an ovenmit, and then wanted to food too badly to drop it before I made it to the stovetop. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
Also – apparently – ovenmit and stovetop aren’t really words.
Those playing cards? Cutest things eeeever.
Amy @ The Little Honey Bee
Agreed on the Canadian flag… craziness! Haven’t seen you around in awhile… hope it’s okay I’m linking up 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve missed seeing you around too, lady! And of course it’s more than okay 😛
Amy @ The Little Honey Bee
I’ve been around! My commenting has been lacking though 🙂
Sarah @pickyrunner
Haha i didn’t know it was possible to burn your nose but it’s something I would probably do too. And then my friends would all laugh at me and tell me I’m an idiot. Which is kind of true, I guess. As for the makeup thing…. yea. That’s why I don’t wear makeup because i’d probably walk out the door like that without noticing I hadn’t finished putting any on. I’m basically not a real girl. My valentine’s day will be me sitting on the couch eating pizza. Perfection.
Emma @ Life's A Runner
I never noticed that there was no Canadian flag! I do know that a lot of Europeans seem to think Canada is a part of the USA, so that might be part of it. But you’re right – we have too many other things to be happy about to let that get us down!
I burned my hand in four different places the other week by taking kabocha out of the oven without oven mitts, if that makes you feel a little better! 😉
Hedda
Amanda. Dearest, most wonderful Amanda.
I sat here with a huge, huge smile on my face while reading this post. You.are.too.awesome. Ha ha, I have never heard of a way to “speed up” this banana process. That is just . . . sort of weird, but wonderful for every bananaramalovers.
I might have to get on a flight to Canada so I can join this Blend? Or just give you a hug. Two hugs. Countless of hugs.
Take care today – and be careful with that cute nose of yours!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You coming to Blend would seriously be one of the best things ever. Countless hugs is right 😀
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
Blend retreat sounds awesome! I laughed out loud at your makeup story. I definitely forget things if my normal routine is disrupted in any way. Sorry to hear about your soup nostril injury. If it makes you feel any better I once cooked something in the oven in a normal pan, then forgot it had been in the oven and tried to pick it up by the handle. My hand was burned for a week…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I did that with the lid of a dutch oven before. I had to sleep with my fingers in a bowl of cold water 😆
Taryn
Whaaattt?! I didn’t know you could speed up the ripening process! I haven’t been able to find ripe bananas in any grocery stores lately.. I need to try that method ASAP!
Beth @ Running with the Sunrise
I consider myself a pretty good speller and I still have trouble with embarrassing, too. Thank goodness for spell check in browsers. My random thought of the day: a cute little bunny burrowed through the snow to hide out under a bush in our back yard. I’m waiting for my husband to wake up so I can show him the tracks and the little burrow hole.
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
Gahh I wish I could go to the retreat but it is the same weekend as my ‘surprise’ bachelorette party! Boo!! But yay for my party! Haha there aren’t enough weekends I tell ya.
Elise @ 9toFit.com
Those cards are the cutest thing ever, and great tip with the banana .. I never knew you could do that
lindsay
wait.. you didn’t save me any truffles? i expect more at blend!
Caitlin
Haha aw hun, I’m sorry about your nose 🙁 I’ve burned my tongue more times than I can count because I’m too impatient to wait for things to cool down. Pretty sure I’ve lost taste buds by now doing that 😛 What can I say?? I need to be warm in the winter, and scalding myself ensures that I’m warm!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
I actually just sat here dumbfounded for trying to envision the soup burning incident. HOW. WHY. Can I follow you around for a day and record all the weird shit that takes place? Hahaha.
This is unrelated, but do you know anyone who:
a. wants to give me 4 million dollars to buy a Canmore condo
b. has any apartment/condo/house rentals in Canmore?
kthanksbye
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
If I knew ‘A’ I don’t think I’d share the info 😯 And ‘B’… no 😥
Jen @ SavedbytheKale
Emoji definitely needs an update! There are so many things missing… like avocados! They also need to work on their categories, it takes forever to look for things sometimes.
eeeek! sorry about your nose! That sounds painful!
Kim @ Racing Bananas
I’m too excited for Blend! I’ll be at my computer right on time to buy my ticket! And Bummer about the no Canadian flag emoji — not fair!
Tina Muir
Your posts always make me smile! I am in shock how you burned your nose hairs! I didnt even know that was possible! I used to freeze mine on my runs when it was really cold in Michigan….but had no idea you could burn them!
Blend retreat sounds amazing….but my flight home is already booked for that day, booooo! I would have loved to go!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I had no idea you could burn them either! 29 years of life any it’s never happened to me. I guess you’re never too old to learn something new 😆
Morganne @ NutButterRunner
Ahhhh I really want to make it to Blend Retreat this year!!! My friend is getting married that weekend though! Can we make our own little “blend” retreat so I can finally meet everyone I love so dearly in blogger world??
Tiff @ Love, Sweat & Beers
Ummm, so embarrassing is the hardest word to spell… at least to me. And yes, I agree, that is quite embarrassing!
I’m not going to Blend Retreat, but I was considering Fit Bloggin’ this year. I dunno. Maybe. Hmmmmm
Erin @ The Almond Eater
Need to go to Blend….won’t be going to Blend. WAHHH. Ah well. Sorry about your nose…I may have loled but it’s not funny…..only kind of. Also, I’ve totally left the house with only part of my makeup on before. Embarrassing! <<just now learning how to spell.
Hollie
Actually I have noticed that about emojis too. I am obsessed and last week I needed a Canadian flag for something and realized they didn’t have it. I was so confused. Design flaw for real.
Have fun at the Blend retreat…if it wasn’t halfway across the country I might go LOL.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
No excuses! I’m not even in the same country 😛
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I am so laughing because we both referenced not liking talking on the phone in our posts today. Must be why we get along so well lol. There are soooo many missing emoji’s, I always realize another missing one when I look to insert the image and it just isn’t there. They need an update.
Shashi @ RunninSrilankan
Blend 2014 sounds AMAZING!!! And those cards are too cute! Now to the burnt nose part – I hope someone comes up with some soup smelling nose guards soon! Those AB and pretzel truffles still make me drool. I have no clue what that spiny thing is – I remember a whole lotta people in Atlanta finding spiders in their bags of grapes [ kept me away from grapes for about 4 months!
Jan @ sprouts n squats
I so so so so so wish I could go to the Blend Retreat it sounds AWESOME! One year I will make it to the US for it, one day 🙂
Those truffles, no wonder you are sad you ran out.
I didn’t see an Australian Flag in the mix there either, not cool!
Lucie@FitSwissChick
We’re in the same boat honey – there’s no Swiss flag either. Shall we start a petition? I’m in!! And your pretzel truffels look so good – I know I wouldn’t have ANY moderation with them.
Speaking of embarrassing moments – how about mine? The other day when I went to the gym in my workout clothes an packed my office outfit in my bag, I forgot the pants. I had to go to the office in my sweaty capris and asics.
Alexis @ funrunning4life
Yikes, your poor nostrils! I do have to admit, I’ve never heard of that happening to anyone before. Claim to fame for you, I guess…? I am, however, very familiar with the forgetting-about-the-makeup routine halfway through. I’m not a huge make up person, so I find myself practically looking for ways to get distracted while I’m doing it. Hope your nose feels better soon 🙂 And Happy GALentine’s Day!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Happy Galentine’s to you too, Alexis! <3
Ksenija @ With An Open Mind
Soooo sad, that Utah is so far away. I would love to meet so many of you guys *sob*. Same goes for being your Valentine. So far my plan is to treat the girls next door to your delicious truffles (I finally found a supermarket who at least has peanut butter in stock) and afterwards an epic 25 person Chinese feast with all of us “lonely” expat students. So happy that is is only two more weeks until Jay visits me.
Ms.J
I also buy pre-washed greens and I’ve found only ONE brand that I trust where I won’t find bugs in! I ‘m talking live, creepy, crunchy bugs!! Yeah I almost died.. on numerous occasions of coming upon one.
Essies Leading lady hey? Stunning on 🙂
I don’t think I’d be on board with ripening a banana.. buut drastic times call for drastic measures I agree!
What the bloomin’!? Burning the inside of your nose.. eek its so delicate in there! That’s gotta hurt.. yeah only Amanda 😉
Arman @ thebigmansworld
I think I am borderline offended by #10…….
And the soup thing- seriously WHAT THE HELL SPOONS? Actually, I’ve done something with the oven where I opened it abit too excitedly and the smoke legit made my contacts stick to my eyes lol! I thought that banana was a continental cucumber.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Don’t worry, Mister. You’ll always be my #1 <3 And What in the heck is a continental cucumber? Googling...
