Thursday #happydance. Why? Because…
π π π
1. I have to start by saying that you guys are seriously rocking my [Christmas] socks off with all your Thinking Out Loud posts. Last week’s linkup was the biggest one yet, and not only do I adore reading your random thoughts (one of the best ways to get to know people, imho), but I’ve found so many new-to-me blogs as a result. Thank you. Love you. Muah!
2. Speaking of last week, I can’t remember exactly what day it was, but I was over at my parents’ place and Titanic happened to be on TV. I usually have a hard time sitting down and committing to a movie, but this one sucked me right in and didn’t let go for the entire 3 (!!!) hours it was on. My main takeaway thoughts?
a) I forgot how much I freaking love this movie, and…
b) I can’t believe how young Leo looked!
But then again, I probably looked a whole lot younger tooβ¦ I was 12 when that movie came out π―
3. On that note, I can’t help but laugh at the fact that my current bedtime is earlier than the bedtime I had as a kid. I remember constantly fighting with my parents in an effort to stay up later, whereas now I’m more likely to be fighting to keep my eyes open. Oh the joys of getting old[er]. But when you [can’t help but] wake up as freakishly early as I do, the only way to get enough sleep is to go to bed earlyβ¦
4. β¦ which sounds good in theory, but doesn’t always transfer over so well into practice. Case in point: this book…
β¦ robbed me of sleep for a couple of days last week because I literally could.not.put.it.down — it’s that good. I’d say that I’m happy to be done it and back to sleeping again, but I have no idea what I’m going to read next, and life feels empty without a good book…
5. But at least I have my beanie!
Gosh I do love that thing (most recently evidenced here). Cold outside? Beanie. Bad hair day? Beanie. Want to look trendy? Beanie. I guess that’s one of the perks of living in the Arctic wasteland that is Canada — 6 months of beanie-acceptable weather. Alsoβ¦ we call them ‘toques‘ up here.
6. Guess who finally took down her Christmas decorations?! π Well, most of her Christmas decorations, anywaysβ¦ The tree is still standing, but all the ornaments/garlands are off so it’s naked as a newborn babe. I would have taken the tree itself down as well, but I’m too lazy to head into the garage and drag the box out of storage. It’ll get doneβ¦ eventually.
7. Insert random facts –> HERE <–
1. Apparently I was born in the wrong era⦠I would have fit right in!
2. This is a somewhat disturbing realization. Ignorance is bliss…
3. Rubik’s Cube? Did not see that one coming. Has anyone ever solved one of those things?
4. π I have a feeling my parents would have done this when I was going through my hardcore gaming phase.
5. It’s all just a clever way to get people to spend even more time in IKEA…
8. This is a little embarrassing to admit, but we’re all friends here and I trust that you won’t judge me too harshlyβ¦ In case you didn’t know, I’m a complete wimp when it comes to spicy foods. Mild salsa is about as far as I can go and even the thought of cayenne pepper sends my taste buds into panic modeβ¦. which is why I have absolutely no idea what possessed me to buy this bar of chocolate…
I took one bite and⦠nope! It may have been the only time I actually spit out a piece of chocolate.
9. At least I have my bunnies! Last week it was cocoa and vanilla, this week it’s honey grahams. I have to admit that I’m slightly more partial to the cocoa ones, but that’s mainly becauseβ¦ chocolate.
10. And now it’s your turn to do some Thinking Out Loudβ¦ See you guys tomorrow with a recipe!
Maria @ Pappa Don't Preach
I’ve had that book on my amazon wish list! I need to read it!!
Chelsea
The Fault in our Stars – Greatest.Book.Ever. I felt strangely empty when I finished it too.
Beanies are amazing. Here, we call them ‘toboggans’ – which my Canadian friend was very confused about, since she calls them Toques – which I think is way funnier than Toboggans. Although, once, I worked at an amusement park, and it was going to be unseasonably cold one night, so me and one of the directors were going to go to Wal-Mart and buy ‘a lot of Toboggans’ (meaning beanies) to sell to the guests. He asked how many, and I said about 100…and he asked if we needed to borrow the shop truck…It was then that I realized the thought we were buying 100 sleds. And I was glad I was going to the store with him π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Toboggans? π That’s just super confusing π But then again, I had no idea what a ‘beanie’ was when I first heard it… I thought the person was talking about beanie babies!
Chelsea
Beanie babies! That’s hilarious! Yes, I’ll admit, Toboggan isn’t the best term. π
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
Oh gosh, I haven’t watched Titanic in the longest time! It really is a good movie! I remember when it first came out, I went to the theatre 2 or 3 times to see it. I loved it that much or maybe it was that I was in love with Leo! π Ha!
Yup, not a fan of spicy food either! In my opinion too much spice ruins the meal. Mild is definitely the most I can do!
Kim @ Racing Bananas
The same thing happened to me with Titanic a couple of weeks ago! I sat down to watch for 5 minutes and 3 hours laterβ¦.I was crying. Because I can’t make it through Titanic without getting teary!
Marina @ Lazy for Diet
Well, personally I think that Dikaprio became much more nice now, than at the time of Titanic π I too try to go to bed early because I like to get up early in the morning. There are so many things in which it is possible to be engaged early in the morning and day becomes much more productive.
Erin @ The Almond Eater
I LOOOVE Titanic. It’s probably the only really long movie I’ll watch and actually enjoy. I’ve also only ever heard good things about The Fault in our Stars. I’ve been slacking on the link up (travel will do that) but I’m excited to link up next week!
Autumn Wieland
i’m just gonna say that i had a wonderfully satisfying breakfast of supper leftovers! a warm hearty breakfast on a freezing morning hit the spot like nothing else has for a long while!
Im not sure I would eveeeer buy a chocolate bar that has spice in it, gack! milk chocolate is my absolute favorite, so creamy, so smooth, so sweet…so beautiful π
Jen @ SavedbytheKale
Hey Amanda, have you tried Annie’s Snickerdoodle bunnies? They are really good too! Last night I was snacking on the cocoa and vanilla ones along with a banana π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I don’t think I’ve seen them around here π I tried the ginger snap ones and… omigosh… that was just trouble. I’ll keep an eye out, though! Maybe on one of my trips down to the States…
Danica @ It's Progression
Life really does feel empty if I’m not reading a book! I’ve heard a ton of great things about The Fault in Our Stars…I need to check it out!
Eating 4 Balance
What are you talking about? Leo always looks young! π Titanic is a movie that I both hate and love to watch. Love because it is amazing. Hate because I just feel too much- all of the things that happen to poor Rose and Jack?!
I reread Pride and Prejudice a few days ago and have been walking around aimlessly trying to decide on my next book.
Ashley @ Kick Ash Mom
Have you ever thought about making a book club type thing on the blog? I always love your tastes in books and I would be fun to eat things with a group and talk about them!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Gah! That sounds like an amazing idea but I honestly have no idea how I’d pull off the organization behind that at this point. Something to keep in mind, though…
Elise @ 9toFit.com
I’ve been wanting a beanie for awhile now, but whenever I go into a store and try one on I feel like I can’t pull it off lol so I chicken out and don’t buy it #fail
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
I’ve got to admit something here: I’ve never seen Titanic, other than a brief 5 minutes of it. I get pretty emotional during sad movies, so I’m kind of scared that watching Titanic will send me into a 2 day long crying fit hahaha.
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I have never seen the full titanic movie, like you I usually can’t sit through long or short movies. I did like seeing the long movie wolf on Wall Street last weekend though. Teddy Grahams really are amazing, as much as I love chocolate though I actually like the honey ones better.
Emma @ Life's A Runner
I used to be the exact same with spicy foods – the worst offender was Dentyne Fire. HORRIBLE. I don’t know when it happened, but something changed and I now can eat MEDIUM salsa by the spoonful. π
I remember when everyone on my team was obsessed with rubik’s cubes. I think I could solve one in less than one minute at one point. Did you know the record is apparently less than 6 seconds?!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
6 seconds? π― I don’t even think I could turn all the piece in 6 seconds…
Elizabeth@myneonrunningshoes
Love Titantic! And I also love reading people’s random thoughts π
Heather @fitncookies
A few months ago Titanic was on TV and I sat through it just like you. It started as waiting until another show came on, but it was so fascinating since I haven’t seen it in so long. Totally forgot what all happened haha Glad some of the decorations are down π I’m with you on being lazy about the tree, haha. That was our first thing to go though because it was dead. Funny it sat in our yard for 2 weeks (kept forgetting on garbage night) and it came back to life. Rude.
I’m thinking today should be Friday so I can sleep in tomorrow π haha One more day to go!
Shawn @ Fruity 'N' Nutty
This is such a fun link-up, I love reading about random facts and I can’t believe this is the first time I’m joining in on the fun! I’m the same way with good books, I just have to know what happens, even if it means sacrificing some much needed sleep. I tried chili chocolate once and though I’m a self-proclaimed chocoholic, that was definitely a type of chocolate I didn’t like.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Glad to have you join this week, Shawn π
Caitlin
Ahh Titanic!! That’s still one of the few movies I’ll watch anytime I find it on TV. Something about it just sucks you in and you can’t stop watching till the end. Love it π Those Bunnies are Peanut’s FAVORITE snack…seriously, he will eat as many as he can whether he’s hungry or not haha. I enjoy them, too, but I agree with you…the chocolate are slightly better for the chocolate factor π And I think I would have done well with that two sleeps thing, too, haha…definitely would have fit better with my sleep style these days π Have a great day, love!
Alex @ therunwithin
so funny story, I can never comment on your posts anymore at work – it is like my computer there hates your blog and only your blog. That means i always find time now to read it in the morning or elseβ¦
Becky @ Olives n Wine
I giggled at the bedtime comment π I used to do the same thing and now I hope it’s at least 8:30 by the time I want to crash into bed!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I totally go to bed early- always did but I think I am like you – I go to bed earlier now than as a kid. My best friend is one of those people that gets up in the middle of the night and when she can’t sleep she tackles her chores around the house and then goes back to bed…
Kelly @ Femme Fitale
Aww, I really have to participate in this!!! Next week! It’s bedtime in Aussie land, but I want to come back tomorrow to read the link ups everyone adds.
I used the word “toque” here once, and whoever I said it to had no idea what I was talking about. I always forget that’s a Canadian thing!!!
Random Fact #1: Apparently whoever wrote that one isn’t a mother to an infant. 2am is my best friend!!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually had no idea what a ‘beanie’ was for the longest time… The first time someone said it to me, I thought they were talking about beanie babies π
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely
Your random facts always crack me up! Um, rubix cube is the best selling item?! Crazy! I’m a sucker for anything dark chocolate, but I must say, spicy dark chocolate? Not so sure about that. I may just have to give it a try!
Jan @ sprouts n squats
I’m a total wimp when it comes to spicy foods too you are in a very safe space π
I love The Fault in Our Stars too, I always find I get obsessed with books and then stay up late to read them. Not a great habit sometimes!
Thanks for hosting another week of Thinking Out Loud, so glad it has taken off π
Meg @ Meg Go Run
Oh my word, I loved Titanic too. And yes, Leo looks so young! I had such a crush on him. SUCH. A. CRUSH.
Jessie
If I promise to bring some good chocolate, can I come over and watch titantic w/ you? Ill even be a doll and take your tree down for you. Speaking of tree – just from that sm. glimpse of a photo, I love love your sense of decorating style. I wish I had that talent… but unfort we cant all be perfect. Sigh :-X
Whats on my mind: I need to put my green smoothie in the freezer to freeze (duh) up a bit… however I’m laying in bed and don’t want to move. I need a maid.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ll gladly put your smoothie in the freezer if you take down my tree π
Emmeline
I actually hate chocolate but have almost bought spicy chocolate just because I love spicy food so much that it might make me tolerate the chocolate! You look so cute in your beanie π I need a really cute one but I think our beanie weather has passed…
Ms.J
Well I for one would never intentionally miss out on such an awesome party <3. Many atime I came close to buying a bar of Lindt Chilli or Wasabi only to chicken out at the last second! Because while I do enjoy spicy food, I'd like my sweets to be sweet thank you π .
You look so pretty in your beanie. I *almost* miss wearing mine.
The tree actually fits in so well as part of your decor!
Hollie
Oh no! A gross chocolate? I actually really like spicy chocolate a lot. I made a spicy chocolate pancake way back when…that will wake you up quickly LOL.
I do admit that thinking about the water you have drank already have been drank is somewhat of an interesting realization.
Liz S.
#8 – I would have done the same thing, for sure. I will never understand the appeal of spicy chocolate. Blech.
shashi @ http://runninsrilankan.com
Beanies rock! I love mine so much, I sleep with t some nights! And you spat out chocolate???? Oh My!!!! I haven’t tried the exotic flavors yet. I used to be addicted to my rubik’s cube – but nope, for all the years I played with t, i never solved it, my daughter did once -but her solution was to rip off the color and glue them in the correct spot – think she was around 4 then – made for a good laugh!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π She sounds like a pretty smart kid to me π
Caitlyn@BareandBalanced
[one] I got to bed super early too! It is embarrassing – but I must prefer early early mornings to late nights – just my opinion;
[two] Some one actually told me about the old sleeping patterns because usually once or twice per week I will wake up, like clockwork at 2am and go down to my basement and for 1hr of yoga (well, okay, usually 20 min of yoga, 30 min of laying down thinking… why…can…I… not. sleep). He suggested I was born in the wrong century, as well.
[three] Leo.Nardo<3
[four] Those little bunnies look adorablely tasty π Though in my youth eating teddy grahams always caused me to feel a bit sad – biting their heads off an all.
Anoushe
We just took our decorations down too! I can’t believe the holiday season is over π You’re right, Leo looks extremely young in Titanic! I didn’t even notice it the first time I watched it, but looking at that picture I felt I had to google his recent ones. He looks so different now! Crazy… oh and I LOVE those bunnies! Never got round to trying the cocoa vanilla ones, but I loved the snickerdoodle flavour! π
Lucie@FitSwissChick
Can I come over next time and watch Titanic with you?? Way toooo long since I saw it and I loved it!! Also, I love your Beanie. Looks so stylish on you.
I’m glad I’m not the only wimp out there when it comes to spicy food – i can’t handle it.
Random thought: I’m writing this comment while getting a pedi done. I feel so privileged.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lucky lady! Can you believe I’ve never had one done? I need to get on that — I hear it feels amazing.
