1.Four. Sleep. Hours. Night. English is hard right now. Waiting for coffee to kick in…
2. Still waiting…
3. 20 minutes later (yes, I’ve been sitting in Bux staring at my computer like a zombie this whole time), and I think I’m finally ready to tackle proper grammar and sentence structure. I’m also ready for the Apocalypse, apparently…
Bet you’ll never guess what I consider to be pantry essentials 😉
4. Why am I buying myself things when Christmas is right around the corner? I saw Brave while I was out grocery shopping last night and it somehow ended up in my cart…
5. So did this…
Essie’s Leading Lady
6. I’m beginning to think that I have blogging ADHD. Observe. I sit down to blog and write a few lines. I check Google Reader and comment on a few blogs. I go back and write a few more lines. I check my e-mail. I comment on a few more blogs. I go back to write some more. I get up to make a snack. I write some more. I answer a few e-mails. I comment on more blogs… etc, etc. This happens every.single.time. I don’t think I’ve ever managed to write out an entire blog post in a single sitting without getting distracted along the way. Oh, and speaking of blogging…
7. You may or may not have noticed that I kind or, sort of, maybe gave up on NHBPM. There were a lot of really great, thought provoking prompts, but ultimately it started to feel too much like I was writing essays for school, and that’s definitely not why I blog. I don’t want to admit to being a quitter though, so I’m just going to say that me and NHBPM had our creative differences and leave it at that…
8. You know what cookie doesn’t get the attention it deserves? Digestive biscuits. I randomly decided to pick up a box while I was out shopping last night (hooray for impulse buys!), and I can’t believe I forgot how good they were.
9. I come across a lot of recipes that I really want to make, but when it comes time to get to work in the kitchen, 90% of the time I end up settling for the same old cereal, wraps, sandwiches, baked chicken, or frozen pizza.
10. Okay. I think I need a nap…
. – . – . – .
What’s your favorite storebought cookie? Oreos, Digestives, and Teddy Grahams.
What do you consider to be pantry essentials? As in, no way you’ll ever find yourself without it? Bananas, yogurt, cereal, and AB. Everything else I can live without, but those 4 will serve for any meal.
Do you have trouble actually making the recipes you come across and ‘plan’ to make? Yes. Yes I do.
Clare
Hi 🙂
I don’t usually comment. I do love your blog though and I just have to say – I was happily sitting at home writing my research paper when suddenly I thought about digestive biscuits. Out of nowhere! I haven’t eaten them in months/years? And then I read your blog and there they are again. 😀 I think I need to run to the shops now!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yes! It’s definitely a sign that you need to go out and get some 🙂
Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate
Your cappuccino shots always have me halfway out the door to a coffee shop! Although I do have a milk frother that I use for my chai lattes so I suppose I could attempt make my own cappuccinos…
Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin
I need that Essie nail polish – so gorgeous and holiday ish! That’s funny you just bought the movie Brave because I rented that on iTunes this morning to watch tonight. It’s rainy and cold here so I’m thinking some hot cocoa and disney movies will be on the agenda. I’ve never tried digestive cookies before!! I’m not a huge fan of store bought cookies because I like the really doughy kind from the bakery way more, but I’ve heard good things about those. Actually, I take that back because I love me some girl scout cookies 🙂
Ellie@Fit for the Soul
you know, I always look for digestive cookies at the store (not sure if I’ve ever even tried one!) but never seem to be able to get a hold of them. 🙁 And I think biscoff cookies are amazing! And so are any cookies that are lemon flavored. 😀
Miranda @ Biting Life
I have that same problem with recipes! I seriously must have like 500 recipes saved into this folder on my computer called “Recipes To Make,” but I find more recipes in a week than I actually make, so it just keeps growing and growing and growing. I’ve been making an effort to make at LEAST one recipe a week from that folder, so I am making a little bit of progress I guess. One day I will make them all, I swear!
** I’d love it if you would participate in my new blog link-up Shopping List Friday! (See my blog for more details).
Lisa
That essie colour is so pretty!!! We have seriously the worst colours over here. I don’t know why that is, but we have about 10 options to chose from. I’m the same way with writing blog posts, very rarely do I get through a post just sitting without taking blog reading breaks. It also takes me foreverrrr to write them ha ha. Ha ha, I totally stock up my food that way too! With my favorites, I never want the option of running out;) I’ve been sleeping pretty funky too, not impressed by this fact. I need a nap too! Hope you have a fab weekend!!
Irina @ Chocolatea Time
I feel your pain…I’m running on 5 hours of sleep and struggling to stay awake to make it through the workday!
Don’t even get me started on recipe saving (more like hoarding in my world). I have hundreds of recipes saved and have only actually made a handful of them. I also have way too many cookbooks and I’m honestly not sure I ever made a single recipe out of them :/
Hmm kitchen staples…let’s see…chocolate, nut butter (sunflower, almond, peanut), oatmeal, raw buckwheat groats, bananas. Everything else is not nearly as important 🙂
Karey @ Nutty About Health
Hmm… not huge on store bought cookies… I’ve never had Digestives, but have always been curious. Pantry essentials for me are: Peanut butter, coffee, cereal, apples/bananas, granola or protein bars, & some sort of bread.
Have a great day!!
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl)
Digestive biscuits = definitely underrated and I wish they were more popular in the U.S.
HAPPY FRIDAY!!! Hope you’re able to sleep better tonight.
Brittany
I am actually glad you stopped with the writing prompts. NOT that I didn’t love reading everything you had, but I like when you write EXACTLY what’s on your mind without the prompt! YAY! Digestive biscuits!? I have never seen or heard of those, but they look like they are draped in chocolate. YUM! Oreo’s are def top on my list, I just love cookies period.
I’m pretty good about making meals that I set out to make. Lately it’s getting the motivation to even set out for the process though, that’s what I am struggling with ha.
Kristi @ Sweetly Fit
You should see my list of “recipes to make.” It just keeps growing and growing! I can thank the awesome blogworld for that, huh? 🙂 Then again, there’s definitely wrong with some good ol’ cereal or a wrap. Sometimes simple is the best!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
I really want to see Brave. I have heard great things about it!
My favorite store-bought cookies are either Oreos or Nutter Butters…gosh, I just love peanut butter in general!
My pantry staples?? Kashi GoLean cereal, bananas, black beans, chickpeas, quinoa, lentils…okay, I feel like I could keep naming things so I’ll just stop at that!
I generally do a pretty decent job of making the meals that I plan to make for the week, but it seems like I hardly ever make recipes that I tear out of magazines. Some of them just seem too daunting, I guess? I tend to find most of my recipe ideas from other food blogs or from somewhere in my brain!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You should definitely see Brave! I thought it was awesome – actually, it was the first movie I’ve seen in a while where I could sit through the whole thing without feeling like I had to get up and do something else after 20 minutes. And yes… recipes seem daunting. Too many ingredients that I never feel like going shopping for 😆
Laura
When I went to London I tried Digestives for the first time and there wasn’t ONE day when I didn’t have one. I’m not even joking….ask my friends, they all know about my obsession. When I came home I packed a couple of boxes of them (or rolls, they came in plastic rolls) to introduce them to my family. My mom didn’t like them, but otherwise they were a hit. When they were gone I was SO disappointed because grocery stores around here didn’t seem to have them. I found them at Ocean State Job Lot (a discount store) and eventually I started seeing them pop up in the bigger stores like Shaws and Stop and Shop. THANK GOD!!
Kat
Im feeling you on the sleep girl. I had the worst time falling asleep last night, but then the rain kicked in and I dozed off to the sound of pitter patter against our roof 🙂 All in all, about 4 hours for me. I need a nap. ASAP.
That nail polish is GORGEOUS!! I have such a thing for nail polish. Its the one element of being girly that I enjoy 🙂
Hollie
I’m the same way about blogging, if I’m not in the mood though-it does not happen…ever. LOL. I can’t just sit and focus on one post or one blog for very long. That is why some posts that are upwards of 1000 words I take an hour to actually read through the entire thing LOL.
Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness
I have so many recipes I’ve wanted to try but rarely get around to making them! Glad I’m not alone in that. I am the worst impulse buyer ever but sometimes you can’t help yourself. Especially when Essie nail polish is involved! Love that color. Happy Friday!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin
Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one who stocks up on food like that! 😉 My staples are oats, bananas, soy nut butter, Greek yogurt, sweet potatoes and tofu. Oh and brown rice! And at least one type of tea. Okay yeah, I think that’s it.
My favourite store bought cookie are the President’s Choice chocolate chip cookies! They don’t hold a candle to my mom’s homemade ones, but they’re pretty good. 😉
What magazine is that? Both those pictures look so good! I used to have a lot of trouble making new recipes, but it became a lot easier when I started making meal plans for the week. I never stick to it 100%, but I usually end up making at least a few of the recipes I planned! Except when weeks are busy like this one, the plan goes completely out the window and I just end up eating whatever I can make in 5 seconds.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve seen those cookies but never actually tried them. Might have to give it a shot if you say they’re that good 🙂 And the magazine is the latest edition of Clean Eating… they have some really awesome Thanksgiving recipes, which I guess can be used around Christmas time too!
Allison @ Life's a Bowl
Blogging ADHD? Me too, like right now. You and me should have Gchat dates at the a** crack of dawn- I have no problem falling asleep but staying asleep is a different story… One perk is having time to make pancakes for breakfast. every. single. day. And I have been drooling over all of the Thanksgiving recipes that are popping up online and in my foodie magazines but I doubt my family will branch too far out from our traditional dishes and highlyyy doubt I’ll roast another turkey and make stuffing one random night during the week- if only you could order it online 😛
P.S. Digestive biscuits? Please share haha!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha I have all the time in the world to make an elaborate breakfast in the morning, but one thing I’m seriously lacking is the motivation. The same is true when it comes to making recipes. I love eating a good homecooked meal, but making it? Eeeeehhh not so much. That’s probably why I love going over to my parents’ place for dinner 😀
Sara @my less serious life
digestive biscuits? what the what?!?
Miss Polkadot
These posts are a delight to read every time, Amanda! Why do we happen to have the same things happening at the same time a lot lately :D? Four hours of sleep – guilty of that one, too. I’ll borrow this one from you – no, really, it’s true – and blame it on the boy :).
When I was younger my mum used to buy Digestive cookies all of the time. The only right way to eat them for me was to break them into pieces and eat the chocolate first, then the crumbly cookie.
I SO have the same issue when it comes to looking through recipes, promising myself to try them and then ending up not doing so. Most of the time I end up noticing I’m missing on way too many of the ingredients and don’t feel like buying them with my already overflowing pantry in mind. Embarrassingly enough I still haven’t tried your Fig & Date bars though I’ve been eyeing them for quite some time now.
My pantry staples are apples, bananas, (soy) yogurt and oat bran. Oh, and let’s not forget about my dark chocolate – unhappy days when I can’t find it in stores.
Funny how you mention you’be never written an entire post in a single go :). I always thought you certainly didn’t have that problem but I think admitting this makes you even more sympathetic if that’s even possible :).
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We have so many of the same things happening at the same time becauseeee… great minds think alike? 😀 Although I have to disagree with you about the proper way to eat a digestive cookie… I absolutely love dunking them into cold milk so that the cookie part gets all soft and squishy and you can use your teeth to scrape it off and be left with the creamy chocolate. Oh, and I forgive you for not trying the figgy bars, but I might have to offer to send you some!
Jessie
When I first moved to Kuwait I had a slight (okay huge) addiction to digestive biscuits. I had never heard of them until I got here. I don’t know how I ever lived to be honest w/o these delicious things in my life. I mean really, digestive cookies crumbled over a smoothie or in your yogurt. So friggen good!! Ha Ha, you would buy more cereal. Is it bad that out of those 10 things of milk I had not to long ago, I’m down to 2 cartons? Joshua kind of laughed @ me last night and just couldn’t believe it. Oh well :).
Store bought cookie: digestive cookies
Pantry items: Apples, Yogurt, PB, Almond Milk, & Protein Powder.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I feel it would be hypocritical of me to laugh at your almond milk consumption considering how many boxes of cereal and tubs of yogurt I go through. Oh, and our weather finally cleared up, so if you’re looking for a way to use those last 2 cartons, my cereal offer still stands 😉
Lucie
Haha, love that post. I have about 50 recipes printed out, shared on Facebook, faved on Twitter, bookedmarked in my mail…with the intention to male them ‘on the weekend when I have time’. Sometimes it even happens and then I am very proud
lucie
Yes, and that comment ran on your website without saying goodbye to me. What I wanted to add was that my pantry essentials are: eggs, cherry tomatoes, AB and Sunwarrior protein powder and that I need to close ALL blog windows, google, twitter, facebook and my email to be able to write my post in a acceptable time. I get so distracted by reading blogs or clicking ‘refresh’ on my email account, it’s critical. Have a fantastic weekend girl!!
Katy
OMG I LOOOOOOVE CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVE BISCUITS!!! I need them back in my life 🙂
Floey
I cannot function on 4hrs of sleep anymore 🙁 Good ol’ college days. Let me know how Brave is! I want to watch it so badly. Might rent it this wknd then
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I don’t think I’m doing so well on 4 hours of sleep either 😆 It’s definitely catching up to me. And Brave was awesome! One of the first movies in a while that I could sit through and not feel like I wanted to get up and do something else 20 minutes in. Watch it for sure 😀
Albizia
Digestive biscuits have a special place in my heart. I eat them when I’m too lazy to cook. With yogurt which is one of the 2 things I always have in stock. The second one is bread.
(My writing style is a killer today 😀 )
By the way, that cookbook is causing intense salivation.
Khushboo
Haha you and me both, buddy- I have a huge list of things I want to make yet still revert back to my trusted favorites! For some reason, I didn’t think they sold Digestives in North America- always assumed they were just available in the UK! They are one of my all-time favorites, especially dipped in tea or coffee! Other favorites are Oreos, Custard Creams and Bourbons—> mmm! Pantry essentials of mine include yogurt, eggs, oats and apples…I rather not be without those 4 foods :)!
Leelu
Here hee, I’m the same way with recipies. I have a bunch bookmaked but unless I plan to make them – it aint happening. Usually when it comes time for meals I open the fridge – see what leftovers I have and work with that. Or I work with exchanges and throw something together – no matter how random. However there is something to be said to putting a little more time into meals – I should look into that.
Pantry staples would be oats/oat bran, soy milk, banana’s and apples and peanut butter. Oh and yogurt – although technically I shoudln’t be eating it 😛
Sara @ Nourish and Flourish
Digestive biscuits are definitely underrated! They’re also hard to come by in the United States; I’m lucky if I can find one variety at the very top of a store shelf. When I lived abroad in London they were my go-to cookie…along with Hob Nobs…which sadly are also difficult to find in this country. (We’re so deprived!) Most store bought cookies don’t quite cut it in the flavor department, so instead I blow my money on expensive chocolate bars. They never let me down. 😉
I love your new Essie color! It’s perfect for the holiday season! I’m the same with magazine and Pinterest recipes; there are so many “must makes” and barely any “have mades.” As you already know though, I have big plans for Thanksgiving. 🙂
Pantry essentials: eggs, spinach, red onion, at least one variety of cheese, bananas, rice cakes, vanilla whey protein powder, and peanut butter.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh girl don’t talk to me about deprivation. How do you think I feel seeing all of the delicious and fun foods that you guys get in the States that we don’t get up here in Canada? 😛 I can only go on vacation and hit up Whole Foods every so often!
Ashley @ AlmostVegGirlie
I bookmark way too many recipes, realize I don’t feel like buying a bunch of ingredients I’ll probably use once or twice and then usually stick with my regular rotation of meals. I do want to make it a goal to try a new recipe once a week or once every other week though because I get into ruts a lot!
I think I wouldn’t make it through the day on 4 hours of sleep. I’m one of those annoying people who needs 8+ hours every night but I don’t care, it makes me happier to get the sleep I need. I got plenty of sleep last night but woke up feeling crappy–must be coming down with something!
My staples lately have been dry roasted edamame, almond butter, peanut flour, dried pineapple and buckwheat flour. Totally random, but they’ve been my main go-tos this last week.
sarah
I feel like a good ,adequate amount of sleep at night is rarity for you ,( correct me if I’m wrong?, it’s just something I’ve noticed throughout your blogging life), this is a shame! I like sleep:). So yeah you should go enjoy a nap.
Digestives are good, dark chocolate ones preferably. I’m also partial to a Hob Nob ( I don’t know if these are just a British thing or not), plus ,Hob Nob is a pretty funny word to say.
And not to toot my own horn or anything, but I am actually awesome at carrying through with making the recipes on my ‘to make’ list . Ha, that does sound big headed. But I just love cooking & baking, and it’s fab coming across new favourites, or even staples , in my diet.
Xxx
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually got better with sleep for a while there, and then I met a boy with a wonky work schedule. Also… I’m extremely jealous that you’re able to follow through with making recipes. Are you looking for a roommate by chance? 😀
Christy@SweetandSavoring
I really like that first picture. And I can definitely identify with #6, 8 and 9! It is SO HARD to not do ten other things while I’m trying to compose a blog post!
Bananas and yogurt are among my staples, along with beans and rice…and eggs. Lately my go-to snack has been cinnamon toast butter on sesame crackers, but at the rate I’m going neither are going to be around much longer.
Jun
Hahaha I so agree with you on Number 9. My eyes would gleam when I browse through pictures of delicious looking food, then I would hurry jot down the recipe, as well as would summon wild thoughts about the yummy outcome, and then the moment I step into the kitchen- poof… I would instead just settle down for a simple and undoubtedly repetitive meal. Hah, the things we share in common, really cracks me up.
We may or may not be eating the same kind of digestive biscuits! I could devour the entire package of chocolate covered digestive biscuits in one day! Ah dangerously addicting.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
They are! There’s just something about the texture of the cookie and the softness of the chocolate coating that makes it pretty much impossible to eat just one.
lisa fine
Cookies?I’m not big on storebought ones, but I guess I’d go with Mi-Del Gingersnaps. They’re especially tasty dipped into a tall glass of rice milk. Yum.
And number six? I am the same way. I’m sometimes shocked that I even get a blog post done, since I’m constantly getting up to make a cup of tea, reading blogs, checking email, and so on. Yes.
Angela
I do the same thing for recipes – I love the idea of having the delicious-looking meal in the magazine served to me, but I get demotivated by the thought of having to go out and buy the ingredients, do the prep, wait until it cooks, etc … That’s why I love it when I go back home and my parents cook me up a very hearty meal!
Four hours of sleep? Does this have something to do with the mystery man you were alluding to in previous posts ..?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hehe that’s basically why I go over to my parents’ for dinner every Sunday 😉 And yes, a certain boy may be the cause of my sleeping problems. He has a wonky work schedule so sometimes I can only see him in the late evenings. I’m willing to sacrifice sleep for now, but I’m not sure how long I can keep it up.
Alexandra
Bahahahaha these random posts always bring the BIGGEST smile to my face! Like those digestive biscuits?!! So random and so funny! Althought I gotta say, they look pretty yummy 😀
I still haven’t seen Brave, can you believe it?!?! I’m DYING to! But I really can’t wait to see Life of Pi….GAHHHH IT’S SO CLOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀
Hmmm pantry essentials….currently, mine are bananas, pb, cottage cheese, okra, and dried mango 😀
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ack I know! I’m literally counting down the days until it comes out. And it’s sitting with a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes so I’m basically beside myself with impatience…
Molly@This Life Is Sparkling
I always have to have (slightly) ripe bananas. I eat one as part of my breakfast practically everyday. Another staple I need is sweet potatoes and peanut butter or almond butter. Oh, and can’t forget almond milk!
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate
I’m the same way. I find SO MANY recipes but I always take the easy way out and make a bowl of cereal. LOL.
Missy
trouble getting around to recipes?
Let me just say this sums up my life:
http://pinterest.com/pin/206180489162129090/
I often say “I don’t really cook…I assemble.”
And — of course two staples never without? Peanut Butter and Jelly. Oh for sure.
Aimée @ AussieinEngland
Oh my gosh, I have had a lifetime love for digestives! I don’t mind the chocolate ones (and dark chocolate is pretty good too…), but nothing beats a plain one to me. It’s really weird, but I like them because the texture is like sand. Not saying I like to eat sand, but that’s just what the texture reminds me of…. And I love Tim Tams, but I’m Australian so it’s mandatory.
I could not live without yoghurt. A few months ago when some doctor told me to stop having dairy for a while (stupid advice, I’m not even intolerant!), after two weeks, I literally cried because I missed yoghurt so much! I also have to have a variety of cereals (it’s rice bubbles and sultana bran atm!), frozen raspberries, carrots (my hands have an orange tinge because of my carrot consumption…), broccoli, and white rice. Mmm…
I LOVE the movie Brave! Mostly because the majority of my family is Scottish and red-headed!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha I had another cookie after reading your comment and you’re totally right – it does kind of feel sandy in a way. Love it!
Alex @ therunwithin
I don’t know why but I look forward to your posts everyday. Maybe it is because I secretly want to meet you in person because I swear we would kick it off. Or the fact that I can relate to every one of your posts. Or the fact that I adore your photo passion and skills in that department. Whatever it may be, I dig it. A lot. Brave made me cry, got me. My favorite type of greek yogurt is the plain oikos so thanks for making me drool all over my keyboard. I wish it was on sale right now near me. I miss it in my life. And then I remember I am at my parents house for three days next week which means = their stocked fridge. Happiness.
Molly@This Life Is Sparkling
I look forward to her blog everyday too! It always brings a smile to my face 🙂 And I am always curious how Starbucks guy is doing… 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I secretly want to meet you in person too, but don’t tell 😉
