Woop! It’s Thursday 😀
1. I spy with my little eye… leaves that are no longer green.
Is anyone else getting all jazzed up for fall? Because I can.not.wait. Maybe it’s the change that I’m looking forward to the most, but this is definitely my favourite time of the year, and I can’t wait to take in all of the sights, smells, flavours, and fashion that the season has to offer. Fall is just so peaceful and cozy. Love it.
2. While we’re on the topic of peaceful and cozy, here’s a confession for you… Sometimes I really crave cooler, darker, gloomier days because it doesn’t make me feel so bad for just wanting to stay in and veg out in my PJs with a good book or movie. As nice as summer is, it’s a bit too… energetic (??)… for my tastes. There are times where I don’t feel like doing anything, and it’s hard to indulge in nothingness when the sun is shining and the weather is gorgeous – just feels like a waste. That’s probably another reason I love fall so much – it’s perfectly acceptable to stay in 😀
3. I may as well use this opportunity to get something else off my chest… Sometimes I wear headphones without actually listening to any music – I just use them to deter anyone from talking to me. Gah! That probably makes me sound like a horrible person – I swear I’m not [that] antisocial 😯
4. I am, however, not a fan of the ever popular oats in a jar. After posting a picture of the empty AB jar that gave its life so that I could make my almond fudge bars, I got a lot of suggestions to make OIAJ. I’m sorry, but nay. Call me crazy, but there’s just something about having to dig my breakfast out of a deep jar that feels too much like work. I like it all in the open so I can spread my toppings out…
5. Eating healthy is dangerous. I made some homemade applesauce yesterday and ended up slicing off the entire tip of my nail and burning the roof of my mouth in the process. So very worth it, though…
6. Sometimes I get hit with a completely random urge to say stupid things like “gadzooks” and “egads.” And I’m kind of shocked that spellcheck didn’t flag me for either of those. They’re actually legit words? Gadzooks! You learn something new every day 😯
7. I’ve really fallen in love with the farmers market over the past couple of weeks. I went through a rebellious phase after my ED where I wanted absolutely nothing to do with healthy eating of any sort, but I think I’m finally starting to get over that now, and veggies are making their way back into my good graces… especially the ones from the local market. Gah! Those suckers are good.
Cocktail tomatoes // Baby cucumbers
Nectarines // Sweet carrots
Broccoli // Flavoured Honey Sticks (watermelon, caramel, chocolate)
8. Eenie, meenie, miney…. mo.
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4O_1MdWVo4&w=560&h=315″]
There’s a hard life for every silver spoon,
There’s a touch of grey for every shade of blue.
That’s the way that I see life.
If there was nothing wrong,
Then there’d be nothing right.
9. I was going through some old things that I left at my parents’ place when I moved out and came across a few stacks of binders full of all my old notes from school. I honestly have no idea what to do with them… They take up a lot of space and aren’t really useful at this point, but… all that work! It kind of feels like a waste to toss them all out; and they’re so neat and organized. Gah! Torn…
10. And because a random thoughts post wouldn’t be complete without random facts…
1. I wonder if it’s good sprinkled over yogurt…
2. Huh. That really is a shame… What about a leg?
3. But illegal in all the other 49 States?
4. … which is probably exactly what she wanted. Can we please stop talking about it?
5. Yowza. I guess I should probably start by reading the English version first, eh?
Happy Thursday, friends!
. – . – . – .
What do you do with your old school notes?
Anyone else out there not read any of the Harry Potter books?
Any confessions you need to get off your chest? 😉
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
I’m kind of a Harry Potter freak so…. yeah I can’t relate to that one. lol.
I can totally relate to the headphone thing!! It’s like an unsaid rule at my gym. When the headphones are in, even if you are good friends, you don’t talk to that person. Sometimes you just need to focus on yourself.
Rebecca
Egad! You haven’t read Harry Potter? If anyone should read them it’s you! They are so good, and it’s NEVER too late!!
I have the same problem with my old notebooks from school. So much hard work and organization, and to just throw it all away? Such a waste! I just have to remind myself that if I want to avoid becoming a hoarder, it’s really better to just toss them seeing as I’ll never read them again.
Elizabeth @ my neon running shoes
THANK GOD it’s legal to kill big foot in Texas. What would I do if I saw him and it wasn’t…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lol! I definitely thought of you when I read that 😉
Lisa C.
OIAJ: No. Wouldn’t your hand get all icky when trying to get to the bottom?
School notes: Throw them out! Just clutter.
Harry Potter: I have only read about 1/3 of the first book. My oldest son loves them, though! By third grade he was reading entire HP books in a couple of days.
Confession: I really, really wish my kids weren’t back in school. 🙁
Jackie @ Beautiful Holistic Life
I’m excited for fall for the exact same reason – I love the coziness! I can’t wait to wear big comfy sweaters and sip tea and read a book or something else horribly cliche haha 😉
Ksenija @ Health Ninja
Oh yum that apple sauce! I would totally love to take the whole bowl and a spoon. And these small cukes are the best – my Russian relatives use them to make pickles and I am a huge fan.
And regarding the OIAJ topic: I make them, since I hate to waste some good nut butter, but since I am also no fan of cold outs, I just pour them in a bowl the next morning and heat them up in the microwave. This way I can also use all the toppings I want 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
My mom makes them into pickles too 😀 They’re so wonderfully crunchy and addictive.
Rachel @ Eat, Learn, Discover!
So I’m *not* the only one who doesn’t care for OIAJ! I’d much rather finish a nut butter jar with a spoon, it’s just so much more satisfying. Plus, I like eating out of wide bowls as well. And being able to see what I’m eating.
And omigod those binders… you’re so neat and organized! I always tried to keep my things so organized and tidy, but it never lasted long. But, I do have nearly all of my school notes from, like, 7th grade on…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I like scraping all the nut butter out of the jars as well. And something that I’ve found works great? Cutting up a banana, tossing it in the jar, and giving it a mix. Such a great way to indulge in the nut butter/banana combo.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I’ve never even heard of putting oats in a jar and eating it that way… that’s weird. I like my bowls. I have some subject notes saved for subjects that I thought I would use again in grad school, but I recycled some other ones that I knew I would never use again. It’s hard parting with that work. Confession: I slept in today and decided to do my run after my 8 am class, even though I knew it would be hot, and it was one of the better ones I had this week 🙂
Lauren
If I could afford it, I would definitely get my ass to HLS so we could enjoy the fall together! I’m getting SO excited about the weather changing and I’m totally guilty of loving fall because you don’t feel like a Debbie downer for “not enjoying the weather”. Blah. I always wear headphones at the gym or at Starbucks even though I’m not listening to music but just listening to other people’s conversations. What can I say? I’m nosey. 😛 I love OIAJ mainly for the reason of getting huge chunks of nut butter at the end of the jar. Mmmm! I still have tons of school stuff which is piled in my basement. When you find out what to do with it, let ME know!
Miss Polkadot
What I like most about these posts is that they make me feel less weird and alone about certain habits/feelings. Case(s) in point: #4 is just what I think every time I finish a jar of almond butter, too. I’m trying to scrape them out as good as I can but the idea of oats in a jar doesn’t work for me. I just found another idea for those jars, though, that I plan on sharing in my link post on Sunday. It’s decidedly naughtier ;).
And thank you for #2! While I’m not ready for fall yet I’ll definitely admit to finding it nice to have an excuse to cozy up inside. The whole lot of hurry and pressure to spend every waking minute out and about is one of the few things I don’t really like about summer.
I’m not sure I can approve of your non-Harry Potter-reading, though ;). Isn’t the series a … classic?
Happy Thursday!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Honestly, I don’t think we should ever feel weird for our habits because everyone has them. It’s those strange quirky things that make us unique and fabulous, and I think they should be celebrated 🙂
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
I am SO excited for Fall for the sole purpose of great outdoor walking weather, pretty leaves, all things pumpkin and squash, and family holiday time! 🙂 yay! You have me excited!
Stephanie
#3! I do that all the time. 🙂
Becky @ Olives n Wine
OIAJ – Nay – I am so with you! I doubt those jars are meant to be heated either. I get heebied out over all of the chemicals I can imagine are heated into my oats that way 😉 I hope your nail is okay – I am the clumsiest person on Earth in the kitchen. One weekend, my dad came to visit and he had to take me to the ER because I sliced off the top of my finger while cutting bread for his arrival. And finally, fall can come any day now! I am ready to have lazy weekends (being anti-social is kinda my jam sometimes but so hard to do in the summer…) and hot coffee and to not sweat the minute I walk out the door!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I was hoping someone would catch on to the whole heated plastic jar thing! It seriously skeeves me out when I think about how many chemicals can be leaking in to my food 😯
AC
Nay on the OIAJ. I don’t like the cold, sliminess (sorry for that mental image). If I’m craving oats, part of it is the warm, comforting nature of oatmeal.
I kept those from my favorite courses. I was very neat and organized with my favorite subjects, but for the ones I didn’t like (ahem math), they weren’t too pretty. So I got rid of those evil things 🙂
You didn’t read Harry Potter?? OMG OMG OMG You must remedy that asap! HP changed my life. Whenever I’m going through a tough time, I reread. It always takes me out of my bad place and transports me to a different world
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
That’s so funny that you wear headphones to a avoid talking to people! I’m not a fan of talking to random strangers either. I guess we’re just introverts!
OIAJ…nay! Blech.
Carly @ Snack Therapy
OIAJ… Eh. It just seems like something you’d eat while camping. I’m not a huge fan. I looove Farmers’ (farmers? farmer’s? — the apostrophe always gets me on that one) Markets. They make me feel so healthy and happy!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It gets me too… I honestly think it’s farmers’ market though.
Laura @losingrace
I’m so excited for fall, and I MUST try that applesauce recipe!
Hope the finger is okay, I have definitely done that before!
I think Gadzooks used to be a store around here? Maybe?
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
I’m definitely ready for Fall too…and that’s only about 75% because my birthday’s in October 😉 At the dog park last weekend there’s already a lot of leaves on the ground, which just got me even more excited. And thinking that I need new boots.
And number 5…I read “slicing off the entire tip” and my mind immediately went “OMG she sliced off part of her finger why didn’t she tellllll me that’s so awful hfoheognoweog!!” and then I read “nail”…still sucks, but now I feel better :-p
Re: OIAJ. I’ll eat it because I refuse to waste nut butter, but I’m not super excited to be doing so..especially because when I finished off my almond butter jar last week and made OIAJ it was a costco-sized jar and all I had was a regular spoon, so I couldn’t even get the bits on the bottom…and got my fingers covered in almond butter residue in the meantime. Grrr.
And the random facts…remind me to stay away from Alabama when I’m looking for sympathy, because clearly the best way to find some is to chop off a limb. That’s like an “I’m sad” version of SAW…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We don’t have leaves on the ground here yet, but I noticed some starting to fall yesterday and got all sorts of ridiculously excited. And girl, believe me… if I had sliced off the tip of my finger, you would have definitely heard about it. I might have even had to supply photographic evidence so that I didn’t feel so alone in my squeamish suffering 😛
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
Yup…I’m with you…no to OIAJ…for pretty much the same reasons as you. I’d rather use a bowl!
I end up throwing away my old school notes and textbooks. Quite frankly, it was a painful decision, but we live in a townhouse and we’re short on storage space, so they had to go. 🙁
I haven’t read the Harry Potter books and I have no desire too. Seeing the movies was enough for me.
Lindsay @ Lindsay Weighs In
I’m really ready for fall too, for sure!!
You haven’t ready Harry Potter?!?! Oh my lanta… I can’t even. Please read them! Fantastic series 🙂
Caitlyn @ City and the Cubicle
The comment about summer and the rainy days is on point. I love dark, rainy days where I can just hang around. The bright sunshine is very loved, but sometimes it’s too much pressure, haha. I hear you on OIAJ- it just doesn’t make much sense to me. I get too impatient with the digging.
Khushboo
HAHA oooh girl I feel you on rainy days- it’s like a free card to lazing indoors and watching movies :)! I have to say that I actually am a fan of OIAJ but not as much as eating my oats out of a bowl topped with nut butter. With the latter, I find myself rushing to get to the end so that I can get my PB fix! I know you don’t like digging but trying mixing Greek yogurt & applesauce into your near-empty jar- it’s SO much better than OIAJ! High 5 on not reading Harry Potter. I got dragged to watching the movie and never felt SO bored- definitely a case of ‘different strokes for different folks’!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
People keep trying to get me to read the books or watch the movies, and I’ll admit that a part of me is curious, but at the same time I’ve put off getting into it for so long that now I just want to be stubborn and stick it out 😆
Amy@Long Drive Journey
OIAJ, nay for me too.
I love applesauce though. My lab had an apple picking party and made homemade applesauce last fall. I’d never had it before buy holy COW was it good. So much better than the version I buy at the grocery store!
Tessa @ Amazing Asset
I am right there with you on #2 and #3! Today for example is nice and cloudy… raining later perhaps, but no sunshine in sight and for now, I am FINE with it! Time to veg out today, well at least until I have to work later this evening, which I prefer to do when it’s rainy, so yeah I concur. As for headphones, YEP…. If i’m sitting at a Starbucks headphones will likely be in muahaha. We are so similar Amanda, I love it 😀 On that note I am excited for fall, just not the crap winter thing that comes after, especially that it’s supposed to be crazy cold this winter according to the Farmer’s Almanac boo!
I actually do like OIAJ but I understand why you don’t. It’s a once in a while thing for me, as the digging for my food thing can feel a bit strange. Plus I almost feel a bit frenzied when I’m eating it for some reason…. like it’s race or something to get every bit of food? WEIRD, now I’m rethinking my enjoyment of it ha
Amy @ The Little Honey Bee
Ouch!!! Nail and roof of mouth?! Like the two worst boo-boos. Hope you are feeling better! I have to be in the right mood/time for OIAJ… like a lazy Sunday morning sitting infront of the TV where I have time to dig out my breaky. And you know how I feel about Harry Potter… xo
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
I always feel ready for the next season by the time the previous one is almost over. So I am quite ready for fall! It might just be my favorite season too.
I’ve kept a majority of my notes from the past few years of high school because I’ve felt like I might need them for reference in the future, but that hasn’t really happened so far. Thus, I might just recycle ’em, even though I feel bad doing that too! But I guess we should treat them like clothes–even if you think you’ll need it, if you haven’t used it in the past few months, toss it. *sigh* I’m so bad with that.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 You and me both! I’ve always kept my notes because I thought I might need them too, but to this day I’ve never once looked at them. I think I’m just going to sort through them and keep things like essays and projects and toss the rest. Because let’s face it… once they’re gone, I probably won’t even notice.
Parita @ myinnershakti
I wish Miami had more fall like weather. At the rate we’re going, I don’t think it’s ever going to cool down!
And I got rid of all my old school notes, except some from grad school. I do, however, have all my old report cards, certificates, etc. Those are fun to look through!
elise
Ahh I, too, can’t wait for fall! I love every little thing about it and I’m seriously so excited! I love thinking about it and the reminders of what’s to come in the next few months! Plus I totally agree that those cool, gloomy, overcast fall days are the BEST to just stay in, cuddle up on the couch in your PJ’s and read a good book (with a candle burning and a cup of coffee, preferably!)
I’m also guilty of doing the same thing with headphones. So if you’re a bad person because of it, then I suppose I am, too! :/
Christine@ Apple of My Eye
You can bet I’m getting excited for fall! Not for the cold, but for everything else hat fall brings! And I’m so with you on your second confession. I’ve never really thought of it like that, but a rainy day always is so comforting to me once in a while since it seems to justify spending a cozy day in.
“In Alabama, it is illegal to cut off your arm to make people feel sorry for you.”
No :(.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 Right?! Like how disappointing is that? I may just have to drown my sorrows in pumpkin brownies 😉
Megan @ runningonjava
OIAJ – Definite yay. We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one. I agree with you on way many more thoughts in this post than disagree, so we’ll consider that a win-win for us.
1. rainy days are my absolute favorite for the same reason as you. I have an excuse to be lazy and watch an entire season of a show in one day (not like that’s ever been done before…)
2. you are like a true college student in wearing headphones when not actually listening to music. Honestly, it’s the best way to not be bothered by people when you’re not feeling it.
3. Ditch the notes. That was a tough one for me, too. But, I think I’ve retained the important information from the notes and they can be recycled for better purposes 🙂
Kelsey @ Ramblings of Change
I want to confess that I completely agree with EVERYTHING in this post, especially the two thoughts about fall. It is definitely my favorite time of year – and I agree with you about summer. Mine are always crazy busy with work, so I like that starting school in the fall gives me structure & I don’t have buckets of sweat dripping down my forehead in our third floor apartment! I’m ready to break out the cozies and have the weather dictate my cozy time at home. =) OIAJ never crosses my mind because I usually break out a spoon to clean out the jar right when its done, and putting oats in a nice, big bowl is always better!
Shashi @ http://runninsrilankan.com
As far as #3 – I do the same thing when I run – so if you are considered “horrible” so am I 😉 – somehow I don’t think so!
I do love oats in a jar – but I haven’t met many foods I did’t like 🙂
My mum has a bunch of my school stuff and she and my daughter get a thrill over looking through it all and guffawing with/at me 🙂 like Charlie Chaplain said “my pain may be the reason for somebody’s laugh. But my laugh must never be the reason for somebody’s pain” Yah – am being overly dramatic about the “pain” part!
And I have not read the Harry Potter books either! I have been holding off…and well, now think I am gonna attack the city of bones series!
A confession from my morning commute – I wish I had an “Inspector Gadget” car and could hit a button and zoom up over everyone for a hassle free – no traffic – ride to work!
Happy Thursday 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lol at the Gadget car – I’ve actually thought the same thing on more than one occasion 😛 And I’ve heard some pretty good things about that City of Bones series. I was thinking about picking it up myself, especially now that I can spend more time inside reading 😉
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
AHHHHHHH how are the leaves changing color for you already?! The one thing I’m not a fan of in Houston is that the leaves never really change color and fall just because it doesn’t get cold enough…it makes the little kid in me very sad. 🙁 I, too, am not a huge fan of oats in a jar…especially if you’re topping crazy, then you have to dig through all the toppings to be able to eat the toppings with the actual oats and it’s just way more trouble than it’s worth!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
“Sometimes I wear headphones without actually listening to any music” – YEP. I do this on an almost daily basis, especially at work. I need my quiet time! Although one time I realized I didn’t have my earbuds plugged into my phone and they were just dangling there. Hahaha. BUSTED.
As much as I love summer, I’m starting to crave the mellow/inside time too. I’ve been saving the last seasons of Dexter & Breaking Bad for fall because I feel too guilty about being inside.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I still need to start watching Dexter. Definitely on the fall to-do list…
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
I’m the same way with the summer weather. If it’s sunny I feel guilty being inside relaxing by reading or watching tv. I actually like when we have rainy days so I can just lay around all day instead of feeling like I have to be outside.
meredith
Huge fan of the ear phones with no music to keep people from talking to you! I actually wear my earphones in the gym and sometimes turn off the music just to what the people on the machines are talking about – sometimes they talk more freely if they think I cant hear lol. I do like my oatmeal yogurt concoctions in the jar although I always clean the jar so well that there isn’t much to gather up when I load the oats in so I guess it becomes pointless.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
“sometimes they talk more freely if they think I cant hear” <-- Lol! I've noticed exactly the same thing. Which is probably why I don't trust that people aren't listening to my conversations, even if they look like they're zoned out.
Heather Williams
I’m the exact same way about fall and summer! I often feel guilty if I stay in on a sunny day, but I’m also elated when a cloudy day is in store, I can keep a hot mug of coffee, tea or cocoa in my hand all day, and my favorite blanket is freshly cleaned to keep me cozy all day! Even if I don’t lie on the couch or rest all day, just something about being at home inside on a cloudy day is so cozy and comforting. I agree, summer’s just too “energetic!”
Also, I thought I was the only one that did that with headphones lol:0
Pickyrunner
Ok thank god I’m not the only person who can’t get into OIAJ. I don’t like them so that’s that. If I did, it would have to be a cookie butter jar but I don’t even see that happening. Sometimes it feels like I’m the only one who just can’t get on board with it. And I’m so with you on the headphones. I kind of laughed since I was just doing that about 10 minutes ago on the train into DC. Not even sorry.
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
hahaha i love the random facts 🙂 and i totally agree with #2! i lovvve staying indoors and doing indoor activities and not being forced to do stuff outside. i love indoor activities. just do. not sorry. and that apple sauce looks sooo good and so “fall-y”! i want some! i had pumpkin bread the other day and it made me so excited for fall flavors. have a wonderful thursday!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I remember you posting about that once, and it was like yessssss! Someone that understands!
Lucie@FitSwissChick
Hmmmm…. I am not as teady as you are for fall. Yes, it’s beautiful, but oh summer….it was just waaaay too short!!
I love love my oats in a bowl. I sometimes just throw some stuff (read: chocolate powder, yogurt etc. ) in the jar to make sure I scratch the last bit out of it 🙂
Those honeysticks look so cute! Never saw them before!
