1. Remember how, a couple weeks back, I professed my love for storms? Well, we finally got our first real big one of the season yesterday afternoon…
[Source]
Rain coming down in sheets, thunder that set off car alarms, hail, flooding… the whole nine yards. In the end, I think we had a tornado touch down somewhere outside of Edmonton, but it never hit the actual city. Thank goodness because we don’t need another repeat of Black Friday… I was only 2 years old at the time, so I don’t recall what happened in any vivid detail, but it didn’t sound all that good…
2. So it’s been about a week and a half since I took my iMac in to get fixed after it inconveniently decided to break down on me, and I still haven’t heard back from the place that’s holding it hostage working on it. I’m assuming it’s because it’s not done and there’s really nothing to say but… maybe I should give them a call?? 😯 I mean, I’m getting by with the laptop and all, but I’m going through some serious gaming withdrawals… sorta. At least I still have Candy Crush; I know this girl understands…
3. On that note, my laptop is not a huge fan of Blogger blogs. So, if you blog with Blogger and noticed a lack of comments from me lately, the computer is the reason why. I’m still reading, but I can’t comment.
4. How are my bananas simultaneously green and speckled? My mind is boggled…
5. I’m also boggled by the fact that people on TV shows and movies never say hello when they pick up the phone. I was watching Gossip Girl the other day (5 more episodes to go!!) and every.single.time one of the characters calls someone, they never bother to wait for a hello before they started spilling the beans. I mean… how do you even know you’re talking to the right person?!? And how come no one ever says goodbye either? Where I come from, that’s considered hanging up on someone, and it’s rude.
6. I realize that this is going to sound completely crazy, but… I’m [impatiently] waiting for my nail polish to chip. Here’s the thing… I painted my nails about 3 days ago, but the color just wasn’t jiving with my mood (ladies, I know you know what I’m talking about…) I picked up some new polish the other day and now I just need my current polish to start chipping so that I don’t feel so bad for taking it off. Stupid sticky base coat…
Essie’s Rock the Boat and Full Steam Ahead.
7. And stupid scented candles! Don’t get me wrong, my nose loves them, but my body definitely does not. Every time I light one, I end up feeling sneezy and wheezy after a little while. It took me some time to put 2 and 2 together, but I’m pretty sure I’m allergic to something in those candles… which is extremely frustrating considering that a) I love how they make my home smell, and b) I have no idea what I’m supposed to do with the collection I’ve built up over the years…
8. I was wondering… do people still have little critters for pets? Hamsters, mice, rabbits, rats, chinchillas? I can’t honestly say that I know anyone that does… I had a hamster and a rabbit growing up, but that was mostly because my parents wanted to “test the waters” to see if I was responsible enough before they let me get a dog. Critters are cute and all, but they just seem like so much work.
9. I am a woman completely ob.sessed…
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBumgq5yVrA&w=560&h=315″]
But you only need the light when it’s burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
Only hate the road when you’re missin’ home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go…
10. I’m currently in the middle of a huge cooking funk. It’s actually almost embarrassing to admit how lazy I’ve become in the kitchen, but let’s just say that if it takes more than 5 minutes to throw together, chances are I’m not going to bother. I’m getting bored, though, which means that things need to change. Help!
. – . – . – .
Anyone else experiencing a cooking funk? What should I make for dinner tonight?
Nicole
AYE I love this song! And that Essie rock the boat color 😉 I only had fish growing up. And I (accidentally) killed it by not feeding it 🙁 never moved up to hamster status…
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I love scented candles, I usually only use them in the wintertime though. When I’m in a cooking funk I always look through the food boards on Pinterest. Instant motivation!!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve tried that, but sometimes it has the totally opposite effect on me. I see all the delicious dishes and think… “Yeah, right. There’s -no- way I could ever make that,” and just wind up discouraged 😆
Bailey
Okay first of all can I just say that I’ve never been much of a nail painter but I’m definitely going to have to go pick up those essie shades you posted because they’re calling my name. When I was little all my friends had guinea pigs or rats and I was super jealous(my boyfriend’s roommate actually has rats now-they keep them in the kitchen which I consider a strange choice of location but I guess whatever works haha) but my family just kind of skipped the “making sure you’re responsible enough to own a pet by starting with a small rodent” stage and found us a dog. I’m actually living at home for the summer with my family and that dog (who is now much older than she seems to realize) and having dinners cooked for me most of the time which is definitely a blessing because when I’m living with my roommates in the city where I go to school I’m pretty much in a perpetual cooking funk. Nut butter sandwiches for every meal sounds alright to me (always toasted though)! Also vanilla is definitely my favorite scent as well! Or at least it’s the first thing I think of and my go to answer whenever anyone asks
Tamara
I just made (and blogged about) breakfast quesadillas. I love making quesadillas because you can get so creative with them! Hope you can break out of your funk, and soon!
Scent: cinnamon.
As for critters, yep, I had a hamster with my college. And I think I had a little turtle in jr. high. My husband and I now have cats (well, just one, since our kitty’s brother died unexpectedly last month).
lindsay
wait, is that by your house? EEK! And what’s a chinchilla? COme here, i’ll cook for you.
sarah
You should cook up some brown rice in broth, mix it in a bowl with lots of hummus, then top it with an egg( fried or boiled) and lashings of ketchup.
Just sayin.
🙂
Xxx
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You had me at ketchup <3
Becky
I love storms! So exciting. My favorite candle scent is vanilla too. I often find the scent spreads through the house regardless of whether or not I light it, so maybe just keep them around but don’t light them? For dinner tonight I’m making gumbo…tomatoes, onions, chicken (I don’t like shrimp), and okra stewed over rice.
Becky @ Olives n Wine
My bananas have been doing THE EXACT SAME THING recently!! I think it has to do with the humidity and my refusal to turn on the AC 😉 As for scents, I have a lemon-coconut scentsy that I have been loving lately – so fresh and summery! Good luck with your computer… I’d give them a call, once Best Buy (do you have those in Canada?) had my computer for a month just because they had forgotten to call me to let me know it was done. So nice of them…
Carly @ Snack Therapy
One of my friends used to have a chinchilla named CJ. I was soo fluffy and cute, but little critter tend to be super stinky. I loooove that you’re watching Gossip Girl. So juicy! I definitely bawled at the last episode. Can you tell that I live vicariously through TV characters’ lives?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Two more episodes to go and it’s causing me some serious grief. If things don’t end the way I want them to, I swear… there will be tears and possible screaming and throwing of things.
Megan @ runningonjava
AH get out of my brain! I LOVE that Passenger song and the lyrics. Those are some funky bananas…you have the right to be a bit confused. The store I work at has the weirdest scented candles – avocado and mint?! I’ve had customers return them simply because they can’t stand the smell. They’re not afraid to admit it, either!
Kim hoeltje
My first pet was a hampster. I went through 3 of those and then got 2 pet mice. Chip and Dale. So original right?! They had babies so I had 13 mice!! They were the cutest and ugliest things ever! Awesome pet though 🙂
Mary
I LOVE stormy season here. Although Britain doesn’t have storms like you guys do and all the terror that comes with them. No tornadoes out our way, just Summer flash floods that make me want to run around outside in the rain!
I’ve had my fair share of small pets – four guinea pigs, a rabbit, three gerbils and two rats whilst I was at uni (not all at once!) Now I just have a cat. Cats are ideal, they take care of themselves and still give lots of love back. Wouldn’t trade her for any of the small critters now!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I would love to have a cat for pretty much those exact reasons, but I’m allergic to them 🙁
Lauren
LOL. I love how the colors which are perfect always chip and when you don’t feel a color, they seem to last for decades. Uhm, I’m loving this song. Definitely my kind of music. My favorite scents are fall/holiday scents. The ones which just smell like the holidays. I know you love your cereal but do you like pancakes? The only frustrating thing is to wait for them to bubble but you can layer them with greek yogurt, fruit, and almond butter! 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I do like pancakes, buuuuuut only my mom’s buttermilk ones. I’ve seriously been spoiled when it comes to pancakes. My mom would make the best ones for me when I was growing up, and I’ve never really been able to come across any that compare, so I just kind of gave up on them.
Ashley
The storm yesterday was crazy! There was so much hail and crazy lightning! I’m glad we didn’t seem to experience too much damage!
Love those nail polish colours! Essie has some of the best colours, but I wish for the price they are they would last longer on my nails!
I am the worst in the kitchen when my boyfriend is away for work (which is like 80% of the time). I hate cooking for myself . Wish I could help get you out of your funk!
I love apple cinnamon scented candles!
Kay
I think that the green-but-ripe bananas are a result of chemicals or something that is done to commercial bananas because I’ve seen the same thing! I’ve never bought organic so I’m not sure if theres a difference there.
the scent I think of is cake batter.. is this weird? and not the scent of fresh batter but like the fake flavoring 🙂
I was in a cooking funk a few weeks ago and literally had PB&J for 2 meals a day for a week.. it was probably not OK but I loved every single sandwich
To avoid eating random snacks when I don’t want to make dinners I will make ahead about 4 or 5 and freeze them in portion sizes so when I’m too tired a healthy meal is really quick!
[email protected].
So I totally looked up tornadoes and surprisingly many have hit the Ottawa area over the years. In 2006, I happened to be working at a summer camp and a huge storm produced many tornadoes, some of which were really close to the camp. We were lucky as summer camps have zero places for shelter.
I went to the Apple Store to have my iMac fixed. It took a couple of Go’s, but eventually they found out my hard drive was failing.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m pretty sure that’s what the problem is with mine as well 🙁 The guy said it might take up to 3 weeks to fix, but I guess I was just hoping for a miracle. Sigh.
Taryn
#5 is something that has ALWAYS bothered me. My dad started hanging up without saying “bye” a year or two ago, and I gave him a REALLY hard time about it. That’s just not okay in my book.. let me know before you hang up!
Katie @ running4cupcakes
I totally had hamsters when I was growing up – we had a dog too, but the hamsters were MY pets. .they were the best!!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
So I’d say you definitely got your storm! We’ve had a couple this year, but none nearly that bad. Glad to hear that Edmonton avoided an actual tornado though!
I was all about the little critter pets when I was a kid. Between my brother and I, in total throughout our childhood there was: 2 rats, 2 hampsters, 2 gerbils, a bunny, a mouse, and 2 degus (kinda like a cross between a guinea pig and a rat). I was actually planning to get a chinchilla, but they proved to be expensive and hard to find. I think rodents are basically a childhood pet…I don’t know too many adults that still keep them. I’m happy I graduated to a puppy <3
I like scented candles, but they're one of those purchases I have trouble justifying…I do love anything vanilla or baking (think cookies, cinnamon bun, etc) based though!
For dinner tonight: make something Mexican. duh. :-p
Andrea
That banana is strange, spotted & green? Weird. I used to have a couple of hamsters when I was growing up, but they are long gone now. Now I just have my kitty, but am thinking about fostering a dog. Do you like artichokes? I’m thinking about making a stuffed artichoke for dinner tonight, although I’ve never tried one. Maybe that’s what you should make! 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve actually never eaten an artichoke and have no idea how to go about cooking one. I think my mom tried to once and it was kind of a bust so I never bothered with it.
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
Totally know how you feel with the nail polish!!! I have nail polish ADD — constantly need to change the color.
My go-to favorite scent — cinnamon or pumpkin.
Kat
Hope the storm rolls through without too much trouble!! I love storms as well but I must admit that lightning and thunder do scare me a little!
And those nail colors!! Omg they are seriously gorgeous. I would never buy Essie simply because I cant justify spending $10 on a nail polish, but man it is gorgeous!
Oh and that song? So beautiful. Love that guys voice!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I was actually totally thrown off by his voice at first, but after that first listen I seriously couldn’t get that song out of my head, and the lyrics just melt my heart.
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
We had a tornado warning last night in Ohio, too! With the tornado sirens going off and everything. And a giant storm. My sister and I camped out in our basement and played Candy Crush for a few hours until the warning passed. 🙂 All of these tornadoes that are happening lately are insane!
Alyssa @ Road to RD
My sister has chinchillas and she loves them! They are a lot of work though, and they make the room smell like hay.
Miss Polkadot
While not currently me and my siblings had quite a lot of critter pets when we were younger. Several bunnies at first and later on guinea pigs. I was so sad when mine died though he was rather old already then.
I’m super picky when it comes to scents and am not an easy person to buy scented candles or parfums for. One of my favourite scented candles actually is from IKEA and smells like (really!) vanilla ice cream.
Not in a cooking funk at all around here but for a super easy dinner: How about corn thin pizzas? Just corn thins topped with tomato sauce/salsa + maybe some veggies + cheese, then put under the broiler. Sara (Nourish & flourish) recently posted about making them with rice cakes but I prefer corn cakes so used those. They wouldn’t quite make a large enough meal for me, though, so maybe those and a good canned soup as a first course? Precooking grains for the week and adding some chickpeas and veggies when hunger strikes is also something I do at times.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I was always afraid of guinea pigs. They were always just way too hyperactive and unpredictable for me – I always felt like they were just waiting to bite me 😆 And something like a tortilla pizza actually sounds perfect… Thanks, girlie!
Kate
Gahh the phone conversations on TV shows bother me too! And the other thing that bothers me (which I especially noticed in gossip girl) is that people make plans to see each other without giving details like what time, where to meet, etc….but it magically ends up happening! And I’m like, wow, these people must have telepathy with each other or something….lol. And wow, that storm looks RIDICULOUS. I’ve never seen a tornado before but I think they’re the most terrifying weather event in existance to me!
Karey @ Nutty About Health
Bummer about the candles. I love me a good scented candle.
I know what you mean about the small pets… I only know one girl at work that owns a hamster. I had a rabbit, fish, parakeets, & a cockatiel growing up. My sister always had hamsters… they’re odd little creatures – always biting fingers. lol
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
OMG…that sky! Soooo scary! The weather is pretty bad by me again. Right now it’s pouring buckets, the sky is black and it’s thundering. Not cool!
So it’s funny…my bananas look the same way! What’s up with that?
Guess the basecoat is working out then!?! Love the new nail poishes!
First scenet that comes to mind: coconut
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
No idea about the bananas… they still taste super ripe, despite being green. And yessss it’s been working… and luck would have it that my nail polish doesn’t chip when I actually want it to 😆
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
Wow, that sky is frightening. I’m glad nothing bad happened! I also have a hard time commenting on Blogger blogs, every time I have enter a code hat I can barely read, it’s kind of annoying. And yes, I used to have hamster too but all they ever did was try to escape and I’m pretty sure they hated life in that little cage! Thanks for sharing the tunes and have a great Thursday!
Caitlyn @ City and the Cubicle
We’re getting a huge storm here, of course it is supposed to hit hardest from 3-6. Prime rush hour. Naturally. That’s how these things work of course. Bah. Love those nail polish shades! My favorite scent is vanilla, too. It really relaxes me. Bummer that you might be allergic!
Pickyrunner
Well considering that I consider my life one big cooking funk, I don’t have much advice for you except that Annie’s Mac and cheese is my go to meal. I can’t comment on blogger blogs either from my phone. I miss my laptop Internet. I never noticed the phone thing but now that you say that it’s so true!! I always say hi and bye. At the very least a “later”. I’d be confused if someone just hung up.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oooo I’ve got a box of Annie’s sitting in my pantry… definitely might be on the menu for tonight. And holy.crap… level 37 in Candy Crush is driving me insane.
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers
Cooking funks happen. Simple meals are usually still super yummy! As for the nail polish, I have that purple on my toes right now. It’s cute! (though my toes aren’t)
Hollie
I just realized I actually have a hard time commenting on blogger blogs on my phone. It generally crashes my computer.
I actually (well my parents/family) owns two toads and two lizards so I gotcha on small weird creatures lol.
Lisa
Don’t even get me started on small critter pets…umm I had a few when I was younger because I was weird and would just bring them home. Oh man, my Mom wanted to kill me a few times haha.
I totally paint my nails according to mood too. Brights and pastels = good, happy mood. Dark colors = well I wouldn’t say bad mood, but you know. Oh and sometimes I match them to the weather too.
Just because I’m that cool.
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
Wow, That song really spoke to me. I love hearing new artists. I love music in general and especially that genre. To me, that’s “Real” music. When people use their real voice and instruments.
My favorite sent is anything that smells sweet or clean. I love cotton breeze and I love cinnamon roll scents.
I had a gerbil when I was younger named Templeton after Charlottes Web. I was afraid to pick him up.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That song was basically love at first listen for me too; and I couldn’t agree more – nothing beats real music.
Jessie
Oh my word!! That sky looks unreal. You be safe darling!!! I suggest you go curl up on the couch, put a flick chick in (or something that involves a sexyyy man) & eat your favorite foods; cereal & yogurt!!
Jenn@Be ME
My favorite scent is vanilla too. I’m also in a cooking funk, so no good ideas here. Sorry, been relying on take out recently….
Khushboo
I’m one of those crazy people who visits Body Shop and stands there smelling all the vanilla & cocoa butter scented products- so damn good! I am totally with you about a cooking funk…and I suppose living with my mom doesn’t help, as it’s so easy to ask her to just make something for me! What about a Mexican scramble- I cheat by adding Old El Paso seasoning and then topping it with bottled salsa, avocado and/or feta. If making rice takes too long, serve it with some toast or a tortilla and call it dinner?
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
Ok i know exactly what you mean by the need for your nail polish to match your mood. i have agonized over this- sometimes i go too bright and after a day (or an hour) im like “get it off get it off its all wrong” other times i go to dark and im like “get it off get it off its all wrong” le sigh. i’ve been looking for recipes that dont require much cooking, and i’m planning on making tabouleh salad, perhaps a pasta salad and other stuff like that. also -I’m making myself get a little more work done before i get back to candy crush. this is a dangerous game… 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Do you shake your hands like you’re trying to get bugs off the tips of your fingers, too? And the only reason I’m getting some work done is because I’m currently waiting for new lives 😆 Level 37 is a b*tch.
Carrie This Fit Chick
Oh my gosh… that storm is insane… so terrifying! I love ESSIE. Wearing some right now- totally into those colors too. I’m a pastel fan! Fav scent= cinnamon spice!
