What does it say about me when my favorite posts to write are those that come in random bullet form? Thursday, you’re a godsend.
1. Relationships are all about compromise, so this morning… I compromised…
Plain Greek yogurt, eggy banana oats, Kashi cinnamon Harvest, homemade applesauce, and almond butter.
I couldn’t decide between cereal or oatmeal, so I had both. Together. In one bowl. Don’t judge me.
2. I’m pretty sure that I’m going to have to avoid my computer for the next few days. Why? Well, Blend is happening this weekend and I don’t think I can handle reading through all the recaps and seeing so many of my favorite bloggers have fun without me. Still kicking myself for not going. Next year for sure… although I think I recall saying the same thing on a few occasions in the past and never following through. Bad habit. But nevermind that. The point is… this weekend I’ll be blissfully unplugged.
3. … And hopefully out at the lake! Our plans to go last weekend kind of fell through, but the itch to get out of the city is still going strong. Or maybe that’s just a craving for some delicious BBQ food…
Grilled corn on the cob. Yes. That makes me all sorts of happy.
4. So does this…
While I can’t say that I’ve ever worried about the expiration date of honey, it’s nice to hear that it’s more than just a delicious taste. I love this stuff and put it on pretty much anything I can (including my face). One of my favorite ways to eat it? Taking a spoon, dipping it into a jar of AB, and then following it up with a dip into the honey jar. Holy.ASJDHFAKJSHD… Exactly.
5. That being said, I really love it on plain bread, too. Did anyone else eat honey sandwiches when they were a little kid? Slice of bread, glob of honey, happy kid? I swear that was one of the best treats around. Simple, but it always hit the spot. And I have a feeling that it would hit all sorts of spots with this beauty right here…
No, I didn’t bake that glorious piece of work, but I did get it fresh from a bakery when it was still warm. I may or may not have ripped off a piece and eaten it straight in the car. Notice how one end is strategically cut out of the picture? Exactly.
6. I don’t want to jinx it because we’ve been known to get hit with freak snowstorms in May, but I think winter may have finally relented to spring. We’ve been enjoying some gorgeous weather around these parts lately, and the other day I even noticed the buds on the trees starting to come out…
Only about a month or so late, but I guess it’s better late than never. And it’s funny how quickly it seems to happen, too. It’s like one day there was nothing there, and the next… poof… it was getting green again.
7. And guess what else shows up with the warmer weather? That one thing that everyone loves about summer…
The ice cream man! I was sitting at work the other day when a familiar tune made its way through my open window… Not gonna lie – I definitely felt the sudden urge to start scrambling around and look for loose change. I found all of 57 cents before realizing that I couldn’t exactly run out of the office to chase a musical truck down the street. Oh to be a kid again…
8. Speaking of being a kid… all that talk of of Britney in yesterday’s post left me reminiscing about my younger years, so how about a tune from Ms. Spears to take us back…
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CduA0TULnow&w=560&h=315″]
Hopefully now it’ll stop playing on repeat in my head.
9. On that note… do you guys remember all of the old school instant messengers? AIM? MSN? ICQ?!?!
Do you remember A/S/L? And TaLkInG LiKe ThIs? Do people still use those things? They seem to have become obsolete with Twitter, Facebook, and texting, but dang… I remember spending hours on them, often talking to people I didn’t actually know. Potential Internet creepers? I.think.so. But can you believe that I’ve actually kept in touch with a few of them for 13+ years? Crazy…
10. I’ll leave you with this…
… but really, it’s more something that I need to hear #commitmentissues
Happy Thursday, friends!
. – . – . – .
Did you eat honey sandwiches as a kid? If not, did you eat any kind of sweet sandwiches?
Anyone else struggle with overanalyzing decisions and wish they could just be more spontaneous and jump right into things? Story of my life… 😳
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I love bullet point posts, but I’m also a wee bit obsessed with lists and when I say wee, I mean giant sized. Britney always seems to get caught in the brain and now I’ve got that song stuck in my head and you are definitely to blame. I like that you combined the oats and cereal; it only seems fitting, and that spring is finally on your horizon. Enjoy the sun and hopefully some corn on the cob too.
Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate
I totally feel you on Blend, girl! Although I have been doing school stuff on the computer this weekend and keep finding myself stalking all the pictures, aka not taking the smart route like you did hah. I seriously hope I can make it next year! I am also undecided on HLS…thoughts??! 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Unless something comes up, then I’m definitely looking into going to HLS. I’ve been meaning to go for a few years now, but nerves always end up holding me back and I always regret it. Time to just take the plunge. I’ve heard that it’s not as friendly as Blend, but that there’s still a lot of things to be learned… and a lot of great bloggers to meet!
Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate
Yeah, Ive heard the same, but I’m sure it would be a fun experience either way. If you are really leaning toward going I can keep you accountable so those pesky nerves won’t make you back out. 😉
Sara @ Nourish and Flourish
You know, I don’t think I’ve ever had a honey sandwich! I’m suddenly feeling deprived of something that sounds remarkably delicious. I *have* enjoyed numerous slices of peanut butter and honey toast, though, and one of my favorite sandwiches growing up was the PB, B & H —peanut butter, banana and honey. I’m a firm believer that the simplest combinations are the usually the most delicious and satisfying. 🙂
Speaking of satisfying…grilled corn on the cob! We grilled our first outdoor meal last weekend, and you better believe corn was on the menu. My goodness. Something about throwing it on the grill really brings out the sweetness in those kernels. Add a little butter, and it’s pretty blissful. I really enjoy other grilled vegetables, too, like zucchini, red peppers, and sweet potatoes, but corn will always hold the #1 place in my heart. 🙂
I hope you have a wonderful time enjoying fresh air at the lake! xoxo <3
Sarah @ feeeding the brain and body
I love plain bread when it’s fresh. Coincidently I read that fact about honey just this week while I was on vacation. I was a little unsure about how true the fact was, but now that I am home and have internet I’m surprised to see it is a true fact! Pretty cool. Have a good weekend taking a blog break and maybe going to enjoy the scenes nature offers us!
Shira
This is random but I’ve read that when they uncovered KingTut’s tome there was honey in it that was still edible! My fav bbq food is probably chicken.. especially bbq chicken wings. Crispy, amazing with charred bbq sauce. And, um, wine..? Key at our bbqs haha.
And, I am an under-thinker, so to speak, I am very spontaneous.. I follow my gut/feelings/whatever… it can be good but it can definitely work against me! Ah well.. wouldn’t have it any other way.. Although this can result in commitment issue from another perspective lol.. like I’m not feeling this so-boom-I’m out!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ll trade you some of my over-thinking for some of your under-thinking… Maybe we can balance each other out 😉
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, and Beers
I hope you get your BBQ fix. I’m sure getting my Italian fix this weekend. I was craving pizza yesterday, so I settled on a still-decadent-but-healthy-and-delicious pasta dinner with turkey meatballs instead. Yum. I’m meeting friends out for Italian tonight too. All I can say to that is, Bring On The Cheeeeeese!
Ashley @ AlmostVegGirlie
The best sandwich is bananas drizzled with honey! I haven’t had that combo in years but now I’m really wanting it…
My favorite BBQ food is watermelon, hands down. Once summertime rolls around, I just want to eat watermelon all day every day.
Katie
I know how you feel about BLEND! Wish I could of went!! I am not going to be reading recaps, so jealous, haha! Next year you go for sure, I will be there too!!
Your breakfast looks awesome, yum!!!
Happy weekend to you love! Love the last quote! <3
Sunnie@ModernGirlNutrition
Random posts are my favorite ones to write! I’m loving the looks of the fresh bread. When I was a kid, we always had giant spoonfuls of honey on either pretzels or sandwich bread. It was amazing haha. And I agree- sometimes I spend so much time thinking the deciision through that the opportunity is already gone! Gotta work on it 🙂 Happy Friday!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin
I sometimes combine cereal and oatmeal too – I loooove oatmeal topped with some crunchy homemade granola!
And I’m right there with you about regretting not going to Blend. I originally thought I might be on my road trip during it, so I didn’t buy a ticket. But by the time my road trip plans were finalized and I realized I was free for Blend weekend, I was worried everyone had already made their plans and I wouldn’t be able to find a roommate! So to answer your question about overanalyzing decisions… yes I do that a lot. 😛
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yeah I couldn’t make up my mind either, and by the time I did I was king of worried that I’d be left out of the roomie plans. Are you planning on going to HLS?
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin
I was – until I realized it’s in September this year! I’ll have just started my dietetic internship and I won’t be able to get any time off, so I’m not sure if it’s worth it to fly out there if I can only go late Friday until Sunday. I’m still thinking about it though… What about you?
Jen @ SavedbytheKale
Ha, yes! Love the Tina Fey quote. I definitely have issues when it comes to being spontaneous. I want to be spontaneous, but I tend to be too much of a planner I think or worrier. Which I have gotten much better at, but it’s still shows it colors ever now and then. I just have to remind myself that most of life’s best moments are unplanned!!!!
Meghan @ After the Ivy League
There’s so much I want to comment on! I’m also extremely jealous of everyone going to Blend. At least I know now that it’ll be safe to read your blog next week without pangs of jealousy coursing through my veins haha. Honey doesn’t rot??? Mind blown. And the ice cream man! I would quite literally sprint to the ice cream truck when I was a kid, such good memories!
Kate
omg I totally remember AIM!! I also spent hours downstairs on our family computer (no laptop of course!) flirting with guys I had a crush on, and then copy-pasting that conversation to my BFF at the same time so w e could gossip….ahhhh so good. I still use G-Chat on my gmail with my college friends…we used to GChat in the library when we got bored of studying haha. Agreed with honey on fresh bread too – and if you do ever want to attempt baking your own bread, Jamie Oliver’s recipe works really well! you can even make flavored bread like foccacia, honey wheat etc….nom nom nom.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Favourite food at BBQs: I’m with you on corn on the cob. Although, if someone’s made BBQ chicken that’s going to make me pretty happy too!
I’m not going to lie, I would love it if you chased an ice cream truck down the street. Sounds like something I would do! I couldn’t help but notice that with the long weekend coming up there’s a lot of ice cream on sale, so I’m thinking that some sort of frozen confection is going to be purchased this weekend.
and oh god, msn. brings me right back to high school! Another MSN thing: when you were dating someone, their name had to go into their status with hearts around it 😉 oh, to be fifteen again…
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
Alright woman, I am TOTALLY holding you to this…next year, BLEND…it’s happening!! I’ll drag you out of Canadaland if I have to!! You AND Chelsea both need to come out! I swear last year, was the time of my life…so many wonderful changes/feelings happened within me…I can’t even explain! It’s so unlike any other blogger retreat/conference! I’ll do my best not to make you TOO jealous with my recaps when I get back…ha, yeah right! Sorry girl…you may have to unsubscribe for a few days! 😉
I never had honey sandwiches as a kid, but I LOVED when the cafeteria at school served peanut butter and honey sandwiches…oddly enough it was on chili day…a little sweet and savory? I should have dunked my sandwich! Lol
Favorite food at BBQ’s? Hmm, I love me a good burger, but I gotta say, NOTHING compares to the deliciousness of grilled veggies! Can you believe I’ve never actually had grilled corn before?! That definitely needs to change this year!
And seriously? I used to spend SO much time on internet chat rooms when I was like 12 and 13…Lord only knows who I was ACTUALLY talking too! 😯
PS, that first pic made me giggle..out loud! 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
See, that kind of talk would have been more useful MONTHS ago when I actually still had a chance to go to Blend. Where were you when I needed you?!
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
I was HERE!! But I didn’t KNOW!!! Wahhhhhh!
Nicole
I feel like ever since I started recovery — well, let me back up to the point at which I realized I was going into recovery 100% (all or nothing, and I chose all). I realized I wanted my life back. So what’s been happening over these past 2 years is actually pretty exciting because I’ve really given in to recovery as much as I could/can. I finished grad school this week, I’m moving again on my own, am way more social (I actually talk to people I see at the places I frequent! I used to be such a depressed hermit I wouldn’t even make eye contact with people in the past), and am just way more excited about everything I can do with my life. So, long answer to your last question: I don’t over analyze anymore. I jump right in now.
And yes! My mom used to always make us honey sandwiches with butter and honey. She still eats them herself, but honey tends to be a little too sweet for me, so I’d rather drizzle it on Greek yogurt!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Awwr girl that’s so awesome! I love hearing about your recovery success 😀 Huge congrats on finishing grad school!!
Nicole
Thank you!!! Now alls I need is to get me a boyfriend… Hmmm haha.
dixya@food, pleasure, and health
that retreat sounds like a great thing to do sometime- maybe next year 🙂 I used to eat toast with honey and cinnamon together and still do. its one of the best combo out there..At BBQ- not going to lie Iook forward to potato salads…I cant stop laughing about ASL and MSN stuff…good old days. Hope you have a relaxing weekend. I dont blog or read usually on the weekends and I kind of like it, but instagram and twitter is a different story 😛
Ashlee@HisnHers
Honey sandwiches?! I feel like I was deprived! 😉 YUM.
Kat
Promise me you’ll tell me when and where you decide to go on a retreat so that I can go and we can be roomies?? K thanks :):)
And oh my gosh me and fresh bread…its a dangerous mix. Seriously one of my favorite parts about The Cheesecake Factory (besides the cheesecake of course, oh and their coffee) is that they bring you fresh bread on the table. HELLLLOOOO yumm. And smeared with honey that is hundreds of years old? Yep, I’ll take that too 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I was actually thinking about going to HLS this September if you’ve got nothing planned 😀
Laura
I miss being a kid and running after the ice-cream truck, those were the days.
I too have commitment issues, its something im continually working on.When I actually do spontaneously jump into things I don’t regret it, so why is it so hard?
Corn on the cob is awesome!
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I love grilled veggies! When I as little, and still now I love peanut butter and honey sandwiches. I don’t like jelly but love local honey.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I love making my own veggie kebabs and my own veggie burgers and grilling those up! I used to talk to strangers all the time in chat rooms…probably not the safest thing. But, I’ve been thinking about it (today actually) and I honestly think blogging is very similar to chat rooms/IMing since we comment, talk back and forth, and even plan meet-ups (all in public places) with other bloggers! Maybe I’m the only one who thinks that, but that’s what’s been on my mind lately!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That thought has crossed my mind before as well, but I think it’s a little bit different because we get to know other bloggers better than we would just chatting to someone in a chat window because reading their blogs gives us a better glimpse into their lives. Back in the day we’d exchange maybe one or two pictures with whoever we were talking to, which is almost nothing compared to what some bloggers share nowadays.
Sophia
I ate honey sandwiches- well bread and honey smeared on top- but honey on toast was even better! I love honey on anything- honey makes everything better- even drinks (tea etc) and apparently indestructible so that’s awesome. My nonna has bees on her farm- so I’ve tasted still warm fresh honeycomb- amazing and especially good with her butter still fresh on a good rustic bread 😉 Favourite food for a BBQ- umm we have a lot of good food at Italians grills! Hmm corn is pretty unbeatable though! But also artichokes and grilled fish. But back to honey- I took your advice of breakfast/bland foods to settle my tummy- biggest virtual hug to you ever 😉 🙂 😉 feel much better and honey on toast has been a bit of a staple along with lots of other toast/simple topping arrangements. Now speaking of arrangements- this threesome looks mighty inviting lol think I might have to call up both parties myself for a bit of promiscuous fun 😉 Lots of love and hugs Sophia
sara @ fitcupcaker
I didnt eat honey sandwiches as a kid, but if I told my step son about this he would eat one for every meal im sure! Im glad honey doesnt rot thought becuse sometimes it sits for a while in my cabinet(not as of lately though) And we will miss you at BLEND. Dont feel left out though, you can go next year and you should! and Im a little bit scared, Ive never done anything like this before with people I dont know! And ive never flown alone, def out of my comfort zone!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
See, I totally admire that! Those were basically my reasons for not going as well, so I love that you’re taking a step out of your comfort zone and going for it. It’s all going to be worth it when you get there and have an awesome time 😀
Lisa @ Live and Be Awesome
It’s been YEARS since we’ve had an ice cream guy come around. So sad. Also, I’m a huge fan of honey. My niece doesn’t like it, which I find to be the weirdest thing ever.
