1. Promise no to judge me when I show you what I’m about to show you. Promise?! Okay…
That right there will give you a pretty good idea of how much yogurt I go through on a regular basis. I was getting my recycling all prepped to throw out when I came across that collection and couldn’t help but laugh. That’s a good 3 weeks worth of yogurt containers, but still… I guess it’s no secret as to what one of my favorite foods is…
2. I’ll let you in on another random little secret… I love the feeling that comes with using something up.
I don’t know what it is, but there’s just something so satisfying about finishing a product off. Maybe it’s the fact that I can get rid of some clutter? Or maybe it’s because it means I can go shopping and buy something new 😉 Whatever it is, it’s one of those random little things that makes life good.
3. Speaking of shopping, how about a little grocery haul? I don’t do these too often anymore (hauls, not grocery trips – I usually make 2 a week), but I’m kind of nosy when it comes to what other people buy, so I thought I’d share a random mid-week trip with you guys too.
Apples, cherry tomatoes, mixed baby greens, cucumber, baby carrots, bananas, watermelon.
Wonderbread whole wheat loaf, Rudi’s multigrain English muffins, Barefruit apple chips, Kashi Cinnamon Harvest, Maisie Jane’s smooth almond butter.
Synergy Kombucha in Trilogy and Divine Grape, Simply Natural salsa, Rabbit River Farms eggs, Oikos plain Greek yogurt, deli chicken.
4. The biggest problem with the above haul? Bad apples. I like using Ambrosia apples when I make my homemade applesauce, but my store was all out when I went. Sad face. There was a time where I probably would have driven to another store just to get the exact ones that I wanted, but that kind of thing sounds like way too much effort these days. Instead, I settled for Galas, and my applesauce definitely wasn’t as tasty. Whatever; I’ll live. But it was salt in the wound when I came across this little gem stuck to my seat at Bux…
Someone has been eating my Ambrosias. Bugger.
5. Someone has also been playing nasty tricks on my city. I was driving home on Tuesday afternoon when I came across this scene right here:
That would be the bomb squad. They had to evacuate and close off one of the busiest bus terminals in Edmonton to investigate a suspicious package after someone allegedly showed up, dropped a backpack, and just walked away. The backpack ended up containing nothing more than clothing, books, and personal items, but seriously… who in their right mind would play a trick like that? Not funny.
6. Spam comments, on the other hand, can be extremely funny…
7. As can the most random facts…
… Although that one seems a little sad I suppose…
8. Perfect apartment dancing music, right here. No shame.
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjDre7EaHFQ&w=560&h=315″]
9. Feel free to laugh, but I think this may just be the most exciting purchase I’ve made all month…
I’m really thorough when it comes to my oral health. Brushing 2+ times a day, flossing every day, using a Sulcabrush, visiting the dentist regularly… On my last visit, the topic of electric toothbrushes came up and my dentist said they’re way more effective than brushing manually, so I stopped by the store on the way home and picked one up. Not cheap, but seeing as I’m all sorts of terrified of the dentist, I’d rather invest in preventative measures than face problems down the road. One root canal is more than enough for this girl.
10. Oh, and about that haircut that I mentioned last week…
Drastic, isn’t it? 😉 I ended up wimping out and just going in for a regular trim. Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to say goodbye to my long locks and embrace a pixie cut, but for now? *twirls hair around fingers* I need the extra comfort… Oh, and please excuse the “it’s 9 PM and I’m exhausted after being out of the house for 12 hours” look. Yesterday was a long day.
Happy Thursday!
. – . – . – .
Three things you bought on your last grocery trip:
What’s your favorite kind of apple?
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I eat a lot of yogurt…and oatmeal. I also eat a lot of spinach. Like a ridiculous amount of spinach. I haven’t been grocery shopping in two weeks, but I bought spinach, yogurt, and oatmeal. I like pink lady apples… or Fuji apples 😀
Laura Agar Wilson (@lauraagarwilson)
I got paid today so went and did a huge grocery shop to restock, I think I probably eat a similar amount of yoghurt but also eggs, oh and apples too 🙂
Amanda@maepress
I too share a love of using things up! It’s very satisfying.
I’m so glad that we have a guest bathroom now too, because if I buy some thing like shampoo and I just hate it, I can stash it there and forget about it. 🙂
I am one of those people who really hates to eat the same thing over and over, so I definitely don’t have any foods that I go through a lot of. My daughter loves eating the same things though, she is a cracker addict!! We have to always have some kind of cracker, or a couple different ones.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hehe I feel the same exact way about keeping things in my guest bathroom; although it STILL bothers me on occasion because I know that stuff is in there. Sometimes I seriously consider just tossing it because I don’t think I’ll ever be able to force myself to suffer through using it up.
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
I don’t think I’ve ever tried ambrosia apples, but apples are probably the food that I eat the most of. I usually have an apple a day. My husband usually has one sweet potato a day and we go through eggs and almond milk like it’s going out of style. That’s hilarious about the apple sticker….what a coinky dink!
Heather @fitncookies
Haha oh gosh I have never seen a stack of yogurt containers like that! I eat pretzels alot, alot!! Haha
I also agree that falling in love costs 2 friends. I would like to think I didn’t lose friends because of it, but I know others who forget about their friends when they have a guy, and therefore lose those friends. Sad, really.
Hollie
I actually keep all my empty yogurt containers as well. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one I suppose ha ha…That being said, yogurt is really one of the only things I finish. I have so much half opened stuff in my fridge/pantry.
Lisa C.
Okay, this is getting weird.
I found your blog several months back from the Healthy Diva Eats blog (who, interestingly, I ran into at TJ’s just a couple weeks after discovering and becoming a regular reader of her blog!).
Each time you post I feel like we have more in common. I had an ED in high school (about 20 years ago, wow) but have been fully recovered for many, many years now. I can relate to all the things you write about regarding ED recovery.
I like almost all of the foods you post about. Cereal, yogurt, fruit; these are staples, for sure.
And the dentist thing. LOL! I can sooo relate! I had a lot of cavities as a kid and developed a bit of a phobia. Guess where I was this morning? Getting a root canal! My first and LAST, I hope!
I brush my teeth multiple times a day. Floss daily. I’ve been through so many mechanical toothbrushes, but just the battery ones, which always die super fast. I need to suck it up and invest in a good one that I can plug in.
Are you happy with the one you bought?
Now, I am about 10 years older than you (I am 37) and I have a wonderful husband and 4 amazing little boys. So maybe your future holds some of that. 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Aww Lisa! Your comment totally brought a smile to my face – I definitely hope my future holds a little bit of that 🙂 Thank you so much for saying hi, and I hope you’re not hurting too badly from seeing the dentist this morning!
Oh, as for the toothbrush, I’ve only been using it for a couple of days, but I’m definitely happy with it so far 🙂
Brittany
I continue to be convinced we are soul mates. I get WAYY too excited about using things up. Specifically food, but anything is fair game. WASTE NOTHING! I also adore my Sonicare, and it was one of the best purchases I have. I use it daily, along with flossing! I love teeth..especially mine! =). I love the dentist though, and if I remember correctly you do not..it’s ok thought we can work around that! 😉
Jess
I actually have a bit of a compulsive problem about finishing off things – I hate having things half-done so I’ll spend hours consecutively on a paper just to ‘tick it off’ the list. Trouble is that it often means I rush things, and also the through-line of my argument gets lost because my thoughts are somewhat tangential unless I walk away and pick up the patterns of going off-track before they happen. Same with food – it’s not a badge of honour to finish off a container of something! Sorry, I have to keep reminding myself of that…but I still do it. Which is why jars of nut butter are no good for me – I have a permanent ‘itch’ in my head that I HAVETOFINISHALLOFIT and it won’t go away. I always want to make OIAJ too and just using empty washed nut butter jars isn’t the same…so I can’t buy nut butter for myself, or anything really calorie dense that comes in a container (I mean, if I eat an entire bag of lettuce who cares, you know?)
Food I eat a lot of? Peanut flour and applesauce! I always use Ambrosia or Pink Lady apples 🙂 I can see why Galas wouldn’t work though as they’re too sweet and watery #applesaucefail 😉
xxx
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ugh. Unfinished papers were always hell to me too. The only difference is that thinking about it would stress me out so much that I’d put them off as long as humanely possible just so I wouldn’t have to deal with them… Aaaaand consequently stress myself out even more when I tried to get them done at the last minute.
meredith
No question -Crunch Time peanut butter. Order it by the case. There are days I am able to say I have had peanut butter at each meal..I live on apples with peanut butter and my favorite apple is the granny smith..followed by the pink lady…
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Haha, I am loving the yogurt container collection. Seriously, it is just so darn good. How can anyone blame you for that?? 😉
What is my favorite kind of apple? Now that is nearly an impossible question to answer because I feel like it changes rather frequently. Currently, though, I am really loving on Golden Delicious apples :).
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
I eat yogurt pretty much every other day. I also eat excessive amounts of berries. And nut butter. I completely understand!
That bomb squad incident must have been super scary! I’m glad everything turned out okay though.
Three things I bought on my last grocery trip are Larabars, berries, and greek yogurt (are the last two sounding familiar? :P)
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Being out of your favorite kind of apples is the worst! For me, it is pink ladies or gala apples. Either of them will normally work for me but I get so upset when Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods doesn’t have them :/
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Pink Ladies are my favourite when it comes to raw apples, but I find they’re a little too firm and tart for applesauce. Ambrosias are the best for that, so I hope they come back soon!
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
Hahhaah love the containers. Props to you for recycling… because I don’t! =X
I used to eat a LOT of yogurt but unfortunately dairy usually kills me. It’s sad 🙁 I think I may have found one of my new favorite songs! Love it! I’m really weird and love brushing my teeth and getting my teeth cleaned, so I would totally be excited as well. Thankfully my mom is a hygienist, so I get free cleanings ! haha
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
I love grocery hauls an your yogurt containers! I eat a ton of Greek yogurt too but normally buy the little containers so I don’t have that nice collection.
Ja @ Ja on the RUN
Wow… that’s a lot of yogurt! Love Oikos too.
OMG! About the backpack trick.. not cool. After all the events in Boston, it’s not right to do tricks like that.
WE have same electric toothbrush. It was recommended by my dentist too. I never had problems since I used electric toothbrush, so it must be working than regular one.
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen
I’m the same way about using up products! I thought I was the only one. I don’t really know why either but it’s just so fulfilling to finish it off and throw it out! I like seeing other people’s groceries too. Love all the fruit!
Miss Polkadot
Being on quite the “with benefits” dairy kick at the moment that’s definitely the rate of Greek yogurt/Quark I’ve been going through, too ;). That and – always, no phases – apples. It’s plain ridiculous but I just like them. It’s hard to pick a favourite but Pink Ladys are up on top along with Elstar.
Nooooo, please keep your long hair! While I’m not trying to say anything against pixie cuts in general I just think your current haircut suits you really well.
I thiiiink I have that very toothbrush and even though I wasn’t convinced right from the start I can’t imagine going back to manual toothbrushes anymore now.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s hard for me to imagine myself without my long hair too! I’ve had it for so long, that it’s like… part of my identity 😆 And even though it’s still early to tell for sure, I’m really loving this toothbrush so far… I didn’t think it would make such a difference…
Sarah Pie
I love finishing things up (I think its the excuse to go shopping again…). I think your long hair looks gorgeous, but I would give you props for a pixie cut too (I could never be that bold!).
Alex @ therunwithin
I love my mechanical tooth brush. best gift I ever got two years ago. Love it to death. the thing with bad apples is they make killer baked apples. I have to do that if an apple is mushy, just thinking about a mushy apple makes me gag. My stomach has been hating dairy so greek yogurt has sadly not been in my hauls. i can only go once a week because of the walking distance but I still love seeing what other people buy.I can always picture who they live with or don’t live with by what is in their cart.
Liv @ Life As Liv
I completely admire your empty container collection! (Especially the fact that it looks like you cleaned each container…that appeals to my OCD nature 😉 ) Doesn’t Oikos sell larger greek yogurt containers? I buy the Fage 2% in those massive containers and STILL have to keep 2-3 in my fridge at all times…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I haven’t seen anything bigger than the 500g ones around here 🙁 I would definitely be stocking up on them if I could, though!
Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness
I go through a ton of yogurt but this definitely makes me feel okay about my yogurt consumption! I’m such a neat freak that I love finishing things up too. Makes everything a little cleaner to throw something away lol!
Lauren
I go through bananas and grapes extremely fast. I could probably eat a pound of grapes in a day. No shame. I just keep grabbing handfuls. I love your haircut! Looks perfect to me 🙂 Being attached to hair isn’t a problem, right?!?! I get really excited when I finish a peanut butter container because I get to buy a brand spankin’ new one! Also, I get really happy when I finish body lotions/scrubs because it’s the “go-to” gift from everyone so I have a ton to use up!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh girl, grapes aren’t safe around me either. And I eat a minimum of two bananas a day… sometimes going up to four 😆
Megan @ runningonjava
I’m sure you can sympathize with me here, but I’m pretty sure I go through more bananas on a weekly basis than is considered normal. Some other things that don’t stick around long…nut butters, cereal, trail mix, avocados…wait, is there anything that DOES stick around long in my pantry?
Alyssa @ Road to RD
I’m totally with you on the grocery haul thing! I always get so much when I go! I go through produce pretty quickly though.
Khushboo
Hhahaah love your yogurt stash- my consumption could probably take on yours though, at least once upon a time ;)! I’m going to be an open book and say that applesauce is one food I eat A LOT of…and funny enough, I love making it with Galas! If I’m eating apples raw, Pink Lady’s are my favorite- they’re so sweet and crisp! As long as the apple is not mealy or tart, I’ll take it! I hate going to the store when they’re outta stock of one of my favorites. Fortunately that wasn’t the case in my last grocery trip and 3 things I bought were: apples (gala), Lindt 70% dark chocolate and oats!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Pink Lady’s ar the best raw apples, hands down 😀 And I dunnooooo… it would be close in terms of who has/had the bigger yogurt addiction. I pretty much go through a 500g container daily. I may need to cut back…
Andrea @ mainerunnergirl
My yogurt eating is outa control, too! And bananas- I feel like we have to buy more bananas 3 times a week!
Rachel
Oh I’m the same way with yogurt haha me and my sister go through those containers like crazyyyyy. Your hair looks cute!! I tend to try to switch it up whenever I get a hair cut… sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t but my hair grows super fast so I never really worry about it haha I figure that’s what clips are made for 😉 (exhibit A: the time I thought I’d like straight across bangs LOL… HELLO CLIPS after a week haha!)
Taryn
I love finishing a food or product! I hate throwing food away, and I love having a clean slate (aka empty fridge) when I go grocery shopping each week. Same goes for beauty products – I actually finished the conditioner I’ve had for over a year this morning and was way too excited about it hahah.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ohh finishing hair products feels SO good! I hate when you buy something new and don’t really like it so it ends up sitting around for months because you don’t even want to use it. I never know if I should just toss the thing or suffer through it…
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
Haha your recycling looks a lot like mine!!!! I go through yogurt and puffins like nobody’s business.
My favorite apple is Gala or Granny Smith.
And your hair is cute — I still think you’d look good with a pixie cut. 🙂
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
haha you are definitely a yogurt addict, aren’t you? 😉 Right now I go through a container of the stuff every 1-2 weeks, but lately I’ve been trying the little flavoured ones too. And I’m going back to London the weekend after this one, so I’m going to search Costco for the giant containers of Coconut Oikos again 😀
I think I’m the same way with eggs. Eric and I go through a flat (so 30 eggs) every two weeks, but I usually have to ration by the end of it. Farmers market eggs = unbeatable.
I’ve been using an electric toothbrush for years and I love it. I can always feel the difference when I use a manual now – not nearly as clean-feeling.
As for apples, I’m with you on the Ambrosia. Although Pink Cripps and Honeycrisp are pretty high up there as well. And I’m absolutely buying more apples this weekend to make another batch of applesauce. Because I’m now hooked, clearly 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
A container every 1-2 weeks?! 😯 Girl, I go through a 500g container in about a day. Gah. That might mean I have a slight problem…
C
I eat a ton of nut butter…I buy at least one new jar a week and currently have 8 in rotation (eek I know!!!): coconut peanut butter, dark chocolate peanut butter, cinnamon raisin peanut butter, fresh ground peanut butter, almond butter, sunflower butter, maple almond butter, chocolate almond butter. Sheesh that’s a lot. I eat at least 5 tbsp of the stuff throughout the course of the day. It’s just so good, and quite healthy for me since I’m active. I also eat a ton of Greek yogurt, at least three big tubs a week. And broccoli. And applesauce
My last grocery haul was yesterday and included: almond butter packets, gluten-free granola bars, string cheese, mushrooms, broccoli and sliced roast chicken. Pretty random!
My favorite apples, by far, are granny smiths! I love gravenstein in applesauce, though
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I would probably have that big of a nut butter rotation if I could, too! Unfortunately, allergies limit me to only a few jars 🙁 Pesky things…
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
I’m right there eith you on the yogurt. We each have one every morning so 14 a week. I spend like $30 on yogurt every week. :/ It’s an easy way to get protein into my vegetarian diet though. If you love finishing products, you would love Kiehls. They take back empty bottles and after you’ve turned in 10, yo get a free gift. I get very excited when I finish one now!
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
One food I make sure to stock up on is peanut butter. I go through about a jar a week so I usually buy at least 3 at a time. I should really just buy stock in the company because I am giving them so much profits haha. Btw, if you bring back six empty Mac containers to their store, you get a free lipstick. Recycling and free makeup is awesome in my book 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I love MAC’s recycling program! But their products tend to last me a long time so I don’t gather up that many empties too fast. And is it only lipstick at your counter? Over here it’s either lipstick or eyeshadow.
Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin
I’m the same way with finishing things up!! My mom is the opposite – she will buy 2 more of something when it’s even close to being finished. I love emptying out the fridge or completely using up something else and THEN going and getting a new one. Much more satisfying 🙂
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers
Ha! You n’ your yogurt… and watermelon… and cereal… 🙂 Hey, at least you know what you like!
I’m not brave enough to chop my hair either. Then again, I haven’t ever really had the urge to try.
Lucie
Haha i love your yogurt container collection!! I guess if we could buy these here, I would be the same. And i love the haircut too, you look beautiful.
My mom always tells me to get a brush like this, and i think your promotion was the sign to go for one 🙂
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
Your hair looks so cute! And once again you’re living my life– my dentist yesterday also told me to get an electronic toothbrush. What do you think of it?? Worth the switch from a regular one?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Well I’ve only been using it for a couple of days, but from what I can tell so far, definitely. My teeth always feel cleaner after I use it, and the timer and pressure sensor are definitely nice little perks to have.
Sarah @pickyrunner
I like your hair! But I think you’d look good with a pixie cut too. I always end up getting a trim. Safer that way, so I don’t have to risk hiding under a hat for a month. You go through yogurt about as fast as I go through ice cream. Pick your poison, I guess 😉 I love grocery shopping and I average 4 trips a week to 2-3 different stores… I may have an addiction.
Lisa
Haha I relate to all the yogurt containers you have going on because I never recycle stuff like that, just because you never know when you’ll need a plastic container!
I guess that makes me a hoarder of them.
Spam comments are the death of me there are always SO many, but at least some of them can be funny;)
I love all your grocery buys! Mine resemble basically the same, minus yogurt. Still sad about that.
I like the trim! I never go for drastic hair cuts either, I love my long hair, and I feel like a little piece of me would die if I cut it. I’m not dramatic at all…
Talk to you later 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve actually almost given up on going through my spam comments looking for actual people. I haven’t found anyone there in weeks and it’s getting kind of annoying to constantly be checking them.
