1. True to form, yesterday’s eats were all about the protein and veggies after Tuesday’s cereal-and-sweet-fest. What’d I tell ya? It all balances out in the end… no need to plan things out so rigidly.
2. Is it just me, or did Easter come around ridiculously early this year? Maybe it’s the fact that we still have a good amount of snow on the ground and it looks more like Christmas than anything else, but wow… I can’t believe that the Easter Bunny will be visiting me this weekend (hint, HINT Mom… he WILL, right?)
3. Speaking of Easter, have you guys seen this Buzzfeed article about Easter Egg DIY’s? If not, I definitely recommend giving it a glance over if you’re in need of some fun decorating ideas. I’m kind of partial to these ones myself…
4. Okay, I have a very serious question that needs answering. Are you supposed to wash frozen fruit before you eat it? I’m really good about making sure my fresh fruit is washed (I even rinse melons and bananas before I cut into them), but I never bother rinsing my frozen fruit. Should I start? I have a feeling that the answer is probably yes, but frozen fruit is a lot less pleasant to eat after it’s been washed!
5. Speaking of unpleasant… I was super cold last night so I decided to take a hot shower before bed. Worst.decision.ever. I must have gotten way too hot or something because I could not fall asleep. I felt exhausted a little while after my shower, but I tossed and turned for hours when I lay down, alternating between feeling too hot and too cold. But the best part of all? I still woke up at 5 AM this morning… It’s going to be an interesting day. Bring on the coffee.
6. Guess who finally put their puzzle away!
It’s been what?… Something like two months since I finished that thing? And it’s been laying on my coffee table ever since. I didn’t want to take it apart since I put so much time putting it together, but I really had no idea what to do with it. Enter a brief “screw it” moment, and into the box it went. No regrets.
7. Something else that I should really get around to doing? Updating my iPhone…
Seeing those number on my home screen usually drives me nuts, but I… Actually, I have no idea why I haven’t done it yet. I’ll get around to it… eventually.
8. And the song of the week goes to…
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kblj3AEjykM&w=560&h=315″]
9. I just finished the last sip of my favorite morning cup of tea. Sad face. But today is pretty much Friday and the start of a four-day weekend. Happy face dance!
10. Two more days. Until what? Well, Easter… AND! the start of season 3 of Game of Thrones. Squee! I came across this article on Thought Catalog the other day called “What your favorite Game of Thrones Character Says About You,” and apparently I’m “shy (but not cripplingly so), opinionated (but only offer your opinions when asked), stoic (but able to laugh at yourself) and, a hot girl. Yes, a hot girl.” Can’t complain!
. – . – . – .
Do you wash your frozen fruit?
Kat
I literally cant even THINK about Easter because Im throwing a bridal shoer the day BEFORE Easter. Seriously my life is a mess right now. I feel like Im going insane with everything I have to do/should do/wanna do.
All I know is that when Sunday rolls around, if there isn’t chocolate on my table Ninja is going to get backhanded. And then he is going to go buy me some discount Easter candy. 🙂
Sara @ fitcupcaker
I always decorate eggs, but I feel like it has creeped up on me this year! Just yesterday I realized that Sunday was Easter so today I ran out in a scramble to get step son stuff for an Easter basket- what an awful step mom I am! I love the DIY Easter Eggs too, so cute! And about the frozen fruit- I never wash it either so Im curious now!?!?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It doesn’t look like anyone washes it, so I think we’re alright. And you still have a few days before Easter to get the eggs done! We always waited ’till the end too… it kind of feels more special that way 🙂
Brandi
I don’t ever wash frozen fruit, I assume it’s already washed. To be honest, sometimes I forget to wash fruit that I buy at the grocery store. Gross, I know.
Becky @ Olives n Wine
No need to wash frozen fruit prior to eating it 🙂 It is already washed and processed prior to being frozen! Yay for easiness!!
Katie @ KatieEnPursuit
Oh I’m with you on the “hint to Mom” about Easter candy, my Mom better pull-through! Washing frozen fruit sounds like a LOT of work, I hope nobody tells us we should. Maybe on the decorating eggs, but if not I have about a trillion Easter recipes pinned I want to make, I’ll be in a Cadburry coma by midnight Saturday 🙂
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
I’m the absolutely last person you want to ask about whether or not you should be washing frozen fruit. :-p I’d say not to bother buuut….I’m not gonna wash any fruit anyways. If I eat a spider, it’s my own fault. :-p
And you know my answer to the GoT question 😀 which leaves me part ‘nice guy with a twist’ and part ‘spoiled brat’.
Shit – I have to rethink my favourite characters.
And who actually has Joffrey as their favourite character?
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl)
My favorite Game of Thrones character is Robb Stark… but mostly because he’s a Stark haha 😉
Love your song choice!
No decorating eggs this year, but there will be plastic eggs galore.
Meghan @ After the Ivy League
Immediately clicking over to that Thought Catalog Game of Thrones post…SO excited for the premiere this weekend. And I can’t stand the update things on my phone either! I’ve had the settings one for ages and moved it to another screen so I at least wouldnt have to look at it haha. OCD much?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ohhhh!! That’s actually a great idea. I think I might have to ship mine off to the black hole that is page 2 of the homescreen.
Kay
I never wash any of my fruit! I like germs to strengthen my immunity 🙂 or I’m just too in love with fruit to wait that long to devour…
I would never in a million years have thought about washing frozen fruit.. I assume they handle that in whatever process to package it.
Happy Thursday!
-Kay
Megan @ runningonjava
I am SO bad at updating my phone. How about Apple stops having software updates every week? I’m probably 2 updates behind right now. Oh, and I never wash fruit/produce before eating it. Haven’t died yet 🙂
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
I am seriously baffled that it is almost Easter already! I guess it is true what they say about time flying by faster and faster every year. It is getting ridiculous!
And I cannot blame you for not putting that puzzle away. If I had a puzzle with cute puppy dogs on it I would want to keep it out for months, too :).
Nicole @ Sugar Coated Sisters
Putting away puzzles is never fun. I’m also a little crazy about making sure that EVERY single piece is separate from one another. If I don’t do that, I feel like I’m cheating when I decide to do the puzzle and a few pieces are already connected. I’m a total puzzle nerd.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hehe I totally cheated and didn’t really bother pulling all of the pieces apart.
Kendra
I never wash my frozen fruit, but perhaps I AM supposed to…Oh well, it seems somewhat counter-productive to wash fruit that is supposed to stay frozen–washing it would just make it soft and thawed. Also, it’s possible that the fruit is pre-washed before it is frozen, though I am not sure if that is true or not. I have never watched Game of Thrones, but I have heard it is a fantastic show. I rarely watch TV, though, so I doubt I will get the chance to see it anytime soon:)
dixya@food, pleasure, and health
good point about washing frozen fruits- I dont because its makes it soggy esp berries which I cant stand..I just hope that my immune system is strong enough to fight it..I am getting really annoyed by puzzle lying around since xmas and I actually want to frame it- maybe i should have “screw it” moment too…having extra notification on phone drives me nuts!!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
So far it doesn’t seem like anyone washes their berries, so I’m guessing that you’re probably in the clear 🙂
Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness
I can’t believe Easter is here already! It came so fast probably because it’s so early this year. I’ve never thought to wash my frozen fruit, maybe because it’s frozen it kills off any chemicals?? I might have to start washing mine now too!
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
I hardly ever wash frozen fruit….now I feel like maybe I should?
And I am the same way with my phone!! I procrastinate updating so much.
Mommypage
Those eggs in the candles are beautiful! That is such a cute idea for Easter. Also, the puzzle is adorable!
Jess
Well hello there, fellow John Snow fan 🙂 Although in the books my favourite character is Tyrion – not that Peter Dinklage does a bad job of portraying him at all, far from it, but John Snow is just too ridiculously cute in the TV series to ignore. And young. Very young. It felt rather wrong when I found out the age of the actor who plays him :/ But those descriptions are way off (hot girl, moi? Umm, NO) in my case. I peed myself laughing at the paragraph about people who like Joffrey though (are there such people?)
I never wash frozen fruit! I’m sure you don’t need to – the stuff we get in the UK is pre-washed anyway.
xxx
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I adore Tyrion, but there’s just something about Jon 😉 And Joffrey… yeah I have no idea about thst one 😯
Sarah @PickyRunner
I love easter. And peeps. And jellybeans. And every other kind of sugar that goes with it. I don’t think the easter bunny will be visiting me this year sadly. That’s really interesting about the eating thing. I guess I crave a lot of other foods when I eat too much of one food group, but I never looked at it like a balancing act!
Haley @ The Saucy Apple
Ha! Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes I don’t even wash my fresh fruit. I know it’s a horribly lazy habit, but I just tell myself that my immune system could use the extra work. 😛 (no judgement please!)
Alex @ therunwithin
we are the zombie twins today. I kept waking up last night, I got maybe an hour of sleep. So lame. Dragging today to say the least. I HATE those numbers too but I refuse to update my phone as often as it says I should. it totally drains my battery which makes me very very mad.
Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles
I never even considered washing frozen fruit! Will be so curious to read everyone’s verdict on that one
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
So far it seems like no one washes it.
Anna Crouch
I am pretty sure frozen fruit is considered “ready to eat” and is previously washed, trimmed and the whole shabang. 🙂
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I wasn’t planning on decorating eggs this year, but a classmate who can’t make it to my house for dinner asked if we could decorate together! Of course I said yes 😀 I don’t wash my frozen fruit… I just give them the benefit of the doubt that they’ve been washed before they were packaged. If I die..well at least I died eating yummy foods.
Caitlin
Arya!! Love her spirit 🙂 i don’t think we’re decorating eggs this year…i feel the same way as you haha…how is it time for easter already? Doesn’t seem possible
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
Haha…if 3 updates drive you crazy on your phone you should see mine! I think it says 11 now. I’m really bad about that!
Sara
I don’t think you need to wash frozen fruit. I’ve taken a few food safety classes as part of my major, and frozen fruit/vegetables were never included in produce you should wash before consuming. Also, while washing bananas is going the extra mile, washing melons before cutting them up is definitely something everyone should do. Food pathogens that are transmitted through the fecal/oral route tend to gather in the rind/peel of melons since they grow in the ground. Even though this protects the edible part of the melon from disease while it grows, when you cut into the melon w/o washing it, the pathogens can get on the melon in that way.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😯 Well… it’s good to know my mom wasn’t pulling my leg when she told me to wash my melons…
Miss Polkadot
Washing frozen fruit? Nah, totally overrated if anybody even says it should be done. I can’t imagine that we’d be supposed to do that because where would be all the sense in freezing “dirty” produce? Isn’t it meant to be faster and easier to prep than fresh ;)?!
Lucky you if your mum gets you Easter gifts, ahem, I meant: If the Easter bunny still pays you a visit. I know I won’t get anything but you better believe I’ll hit the stores right away on Tuesday to snatch all the reduced price Easter chocolates I can get :D. Let me know if I have to get you those Lindor mini eggs after all :).
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m hoping to get lucky this year! It’s been a few years since the Bunny has dropped by 😥
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
I definitely do not wash frozen berries! I feel like that would be weird.. haha oh well 🙂
I hate updating my iphone. I always wait till the very last minute.
Jemma
Those egg shell tea light holders are so festive, such a great idea!
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
Easter def. came early this year. I just took down my St. Patrick’s day decorations last week, oops. I don’t wash frozen fruit!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Well at least you decorated for St.Patrick’s! I wish I could make my place festive for all the holidays, but I have limited storage space and Christmas already takes up most of it…
Robyn
I’m pretty sure I never wash frozen fruit…and didn’t even think it was something a person should do, until now…hmmm maybe the freezer kills off all the bad yuckies?
Also, I am a buzzfeed addict!
Sky @ The Blonde In Black
I hope to be decorating eggs this year for Easter! My sister and I are getting older and haven’t dyed or decorate eggs in a while! I’ll have to propose that we do that…
I never thought about washing frozen fruit, but it’s a good idea!
I haven’t gotten into Game of Thrones yet, but I am hoping to get into the series this summer!
Lauren
I think frozen fruit is washed before it’s put into the bags! Considering many people make smoothies and things from them, I’m just guessing they are pre-washed. Plus, a lot of recipes call for you to “add frozen fruit” so I’m guessing you’re in the clear!
whiness
I’m not going to celebrate Easter in a traditional way in this year. I’m going to just cook some tasty food and spend the time with my mother talking, watching movies and relaxing. I feel like I need this.
When I was younger, my Easter used to be more traditional and religious. But since my partens have divorced, nothing’s the same and there’s nothing I can do about it so I decided to accept it.
And if you’re asking about frozen fruits… Oh, I never wash them! I’ve never even thought of that. Oo
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Your Easter still sounds like it will be wonderful. Time with mom is never a bad thing 🙂
Rachel
I never wash my frozen fruit lol but that is a good question lol I think I just assumed the kind people at Dole did it for me… I could be wrong though :p
Khushboo
You wash your bananas??? I can only salute you, especially as I’m so terrible at washing my fruit…apples included (whoops)! Random question- how did you put the song video into your post…I’ve been trying to for the last 40 minutes but it doesn’t seem to be working! Love that idea of making cracked egg shells into candles….given my lack of craftiness, that’s something even I can manage! Hope your day flies back…even if it means downing copious amounts of caffeine ;)!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I had a tough time figuring the video thing out as well. Assuming you use WordPress, all you have to do is put this code on a separate line in your post: [youtube=”ADDRESS OF VIDEO”]
Khushboo
I finally managed to embed it after watching various YouTube videos….luckily it works but chances are I won’t remember all that technical jargon next time round! Your way seems much more user-friendly so thank you very much, Amanda 🙂
Sara @ Magia e Pasta
I refuse to update my phone to the new IOS 6 because of how bad the GPS/Map is on there, but it’s driving me CRAZY seeing that red notification every time I go to the home screen. I’m compulsive about checking my email, updating apps, etc. just so I don’t have to see those.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I updated to IOS 6 before I heard about the bad map and loss of YouTube, but I’m definitely wishing that I didn’t!
Lisa
I feel like Easter hit us so early this year, I can’t even believe it honestly!
I also am too excited to start reading the Game of Throne series! I really need to get on that one, I want to read it before I get addicted to the show, which I’m positive will happen.
Haha, I totally do the same with my e-mail. Basically ignore it for as long as possible;)
I don’t think you’re supposed to wash frozen fruit, I’ve never thought of it! I sure hope not, since I never have 😉
Lisa
PS I like how we both mentioned our favorite teas in our posts today 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s kind of too amazing NOT to mention again and again and again… 😉
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers
Yay for Game of Thrones!!! Too bad I don’t have HBO. womp womp I think I might maybe do a wee bit of baking today. I’m still not sure, but if I do, I’m going to try your choc chip pumpkin bread. Mmmm… chocolate goodnessssss
