1. It’s been 1.5 weeks since I got back from Hawaii and I have yet to unpack my suitcase and put it away…
In my defense, the only things left in it are a couple of summer dresses that I can’t use right now anyways, but the suitcase itself is starting to be a bit on an eyesore sitting in the corner of my living room like that. I’ll get on it… eventually.
2. Speaking of suitcases, I’m going on another trip this weekend! Nothing lengthy or exotic, but I’ll be leaving for the mountains on Saturday morning to do some snowboarding and coming back on Sunday night. It may not be beaches and sunshine, but I still can’t wait. It’s been far too long since I got some quality boarding in and I miss it like crazy.
3. I rarely ever use elevators and usually end up taking the stairs. It’s not because I think I need the exercise or because I’m trying to burn extra calories, but because I desperately want to avoid that awkward elevator silence that comes with finding yourself alone in an elevator with only one other person. Are you supposed to say something? Are you not? And if so, what? “Beautiful day we’re having?” You better believe that this is one of those situations where I whip out the trusty iPhone and pretend to be doing something important…
4. Does anyone actually peel cheese strings? I think I may have tried to make some of those fancy characters that they show on the packages a few times when I was younger, but when those never worked out I gave up and became a biter…
5. I love Wonderbread, specifically their 100% whole wheat loaf…
I used to be all about the Ezekiel and sprouted/seedy breads, but to be completely honest with you, my stomach really hated them. I know that type of bread is supposed to be “better” for you and some people swear by it, but it definitely doesn’t do me any favors. Just goes to show you that what’s healthy for one person isn’t necessarily healthy for another… So I’ll keep eating my Wonderbread, until I finally work up the nerve to make my own bread.
6. I ordered eight 50-sachet bags of my favorite Harney and Sons tea yesterday…
A tad excessive perhaps, but God forbid I ever find myself without any. This tea has been part of my morning routine for years now, and it’s seriously one of the reasons (in addition to breakfast) that I get out of bed in the morning.
7. Speaking of excessive… remember my lip balm collection from last week? This week I’d like to introduce you to my collection of gum…
I know it looks bad, but I swear I don’t have a problem (says the girl with nine packs of gum in her possession). I only chew about 2 or 3 pieces a day, but I never know what kind of flavor I’ll be craving and I like to keep all my bases covered.
8. I’ve been listening to this song on repeat since I started writing this post. Perfect background music to zone out to…
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gH2efAcmBQM&w=560&h=315″]
9. I only just figured out how to “like” Facebook pages the other day on my Spoons account. Yes. Yes I do very much fail at social media. Trying to keep up to date with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest is kind of overwhelming. BUT! I’m happy to say that I’m getting a tad bit better at it; or at least with Twitter anyways. I’ve been signing in a lot more often lately and, dare I say, I’m kind of starting to like it?
10. I’m also kind of really starting to like Feedly. With Google Reader’s impending doom on the horizon, I wanted to get a head start on switching readers so that my blog world doesn’t fall into chaos on July 1st. I tried using Bloglovin first, but just couldn’t get the hang of it. Feedly, on the other hand, is so similar to Reader that I basically loved it from the start. As an added bonus, it’ll upload your entire Reader feed in 2 seconds so you don’t have to go to the trouble of doing it manually. I definitely recommend it if you’re still in the market for an alternative to Google Reader.
. – . – . – .
What’s your favorite bread? Have you ever made your own?
What’s the last thing you ordered online?
Kate
ahaha I hear you on unpacking! It’s such a drag – not nearly as much fun as packing to go somewhere is! 😀 I almost didn’t unpack from Florida since I’ll be moving out soon, but then…it was only a three day trip, I’ll need to wear those clothes again haha. And amen about the bread! Honestly my stomach can’t handle ANYTHING with wheat in it, so….yeah, no sprouted ezekiel stuff, no nothing. My old favorite was Pepperidge Farm 12 Grain…mmm seedy goodness. I’m currently looking for gluten-free bread recipes though because I really miss bread sometime…especially toasted with butter. mmmm. I’m with you on the tea too, I always have a stash of green and peppermint! Hot cinnamon spice sounds divine as well – and so does snowboarding! totally excited for you, tear it up out there! 😀
Emily
I’m so happy to hear that I’m not the only one gorging myself on sprouty breads…
I know the nutritional benefits are probably really good but my tummy just doesn’t like them very much. And taste-wise there are other breads I’d much rather be eating. I’ve never tried the Whole Wheat WonderBread though! Actually, I don’t know that I’ve ever even seen it in the states? I’ll have to keep an eye out!
And I’m super jealous that you’re going on another vacation this weekend! Have fun. <3
Sara @ Nourish and Flourish
Eee, so much to say! First, I think we share a common lip gloss and gum hoarding problem. Peek inside my purse and you’ll find at least three packs–sometimes more. My stash at home is much larger though; even though mint flavors are always my favorite, I’ve recently fallen in love with some of Extra’s “desserts.” I squealed inside when I discovered rainbow sherbet a few weeks ago!
Oh gosh, I am beyond OCD when it comes to unpacking my suitcase! Everything must be put away the second I arrive home. This means that even if I return to my house at 2am, I’ll stay up till 3 or 4, putting everything back where it belongs. I REALLY wish I didn’t feel a need to do that, but I can’t sleep if I don’t. The same goes for anything in my room–if I notice something out of place after I crawl in bed, I have to get up and put it back where it belongs! Oof.
I had the same experience with Ezekial bread–it makes my stomach wonky! As for cheese sticks: I’m far too impatient to peel strings; biting is where it’s at.
You’ve convinced me that I need to try this cinnamon spice tea! I’ll be on the lookout the next time I go to the store. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Finally another biter! It’s been nothing but peelers around these parts 😆 And I start unpacking my suitcase the second I get home, but it’s those little oddities that don’t make it out for a while. As for the tea, I’ve never seen it in stores, but I order it online!
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
Please, oh please, clue me in. How do I “like” pages with my hungyhealthygirl acct? I’ve tried everything and can’t seem to figure it out?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It took me a while too. Okay, there’s a little box with a gear and an arrow on it on the right side of the screen by the name of the FB page. You click on it and a drop down menu appears; then you click on “Like As Your Page…” I don’t think you can do it to personal FB accounts, but it works with company/blog ones!
Ellie@Fit for the Soul
HEhehe I’ve done that whole “it’s too overwhelming to unpack” thing many times before. And snowboarding sounds sooo exciting! I have never been but I know Greg and many of my friends love it, so I can’t wait to be “normal” again and snowboard someday. 🙂 And I’ve been wondering about Bloglovin’, but what was it that didn’t click for you? I’m curious to know because I’ve never tried it before.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
What bothered me most was the layout of it. It looked nice enough, but far too complicated. I love Reader because it’s pretty minimalist and basic… Feedly is the same way.
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate
It always takes me a good month to unpack. LOL.
Kristy @ Southern In Law
Oh I am jealous of you slipping away for another vacation! Lucky girl!
I wish I could love wholemeal and seeded breads (as I used to) but coeliac disease doesn’t think that should happen 😛 I hated bread for so long since I started eating gluten free but thankfully there’s a new gluten free bread that’s launched here and it is amazing! Though, nothing could replace the Udi’s bread I fell in love with whilst in Louisiana!
I’m torn between bloglovin and feedly – feedly is much more like Google Reader, but it doesn’t work as well on my iPad (which is what I use for most of my blog reading) so hopefully they fix that up as I like it more than bloglovin (but bloglovin works better on the iPad haha)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I haven’t tried Feedly on my iPad yet, but it’s upsetting to hear that it doesn’t work too well! July is still a little ways away so hopefully they work the kinks out.
Caitlin
I love making my own bread 🙂 You should definitely give it a try…I bet you would love it and make something phenomenal that I can then make after you post the recipe 😉 Social media platform wise I jumped into bloglovin but I’m not loving it, so I’m looking into Feedly now since you so highly recommended it. I trust your judgment 🙂
Courtney
Unpacking is the worst!! Have fun on your trip 🙂
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables
Haha I hate unpacking suitcases!!! And I totally DO peel my string cheese. Is that weird? I realized can’t take it to work anymore as a snack, because I look like an absolute WEIRDO when I’m eating it. hahaha
I use the Reeder app on my Mac instead of google reader and I love it!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Actually, I’m pretty sure that the point of string cheese is to peel is, so I think I’m the weird one here. I might just have to switch over to Babybel cheeses or something…
Cori @ olivetorun
I’m ADDICTED to gum too… but I don’t really like the fruity flavors. All of mine are versions of mint.
Sabrina @ Nutritiously Sweet
lol I thought I was the only one with the gym craze! I love trips, even just for a quite day or weekend! And I agree with the bread thing, its funny how it can be great for everyone else except you! But as always, listen to your body right? Oats don’t like me too much 🙁
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I use FB the most, by far, but I also use Twitter a TON! Twitter is usually where my wittiness shines through. I have a lot of family on FB and they want to “like” and comment on EVERYTHING and it drives me nuts, so sometimes I take my slightly inappropriate hilarity to Twitter… also, no one gets mad if you post more than one Twitter update in an hour. I really like rye bread, but I’ve been loving the Arnold’s pita thins lately!
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables
Have fun snowboarding this weekend love!! I can’t get used to Feedly. I am going to miss my Google Reader!!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
I absolutely hate that awkward elevator silence. Uncomfortable. And I had no idea you were a snowboarder! I learned when I was about ten, but I haven’t really gone back since. Not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because it is really hard to get me to stay outside longer than absolutely necessary when it’s cold out.
I’m working on becoming more Twitter active…and one of these days, I’ll get a blog Facebook page. One day…
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
And forgot to mention – I’m a peeler. I do not understand biting cheese strings…taking away the novelty of the thing :-p
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Twitter kind of scares me because there’s so much going on all the time that I feel like if I blink, I miss something. And heaven forbid leaving it alone for hours at a time! Don’t feel bad about FB. It took me forever to get one for my blog…
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
Have I mentioned before that I love these posts? 🙂
I fluctuate between facebook and twitter…I like them both for such different reasons….I actually only recently figured out how to “like” pages as my blog’s page account too, so don’t feel bad!
Megan @ runningonjava
Ugh, I am one of those people who unpacks the SECOND I get home. I can’t stand not being re-settled. After a trip to Hawaii, I’d probably have to re-evaluate that habit though… I still peel string cheese, just FYI. Also, I just switched to feedly as well and have to admit I like it quite a bit better than Google Reader for the modern layout and other applications it offers.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I always START unpacking the second I get home too, but it’s a few of those lingering oddities that end up staying in my suitcase for a couple of weeks 😆
Brittany
I am so in love with all of Awolnations music, ESPECIALLY Sail! I HATE leaving my suitcase with clothes. I almost always unpack right when I get home even if I am exhausted. I hate clutter..I’m a bit OCD hahahaha I have issues..PHEW! YAHOO for another fun trip! When I ate cheese, the mozzarella string cheese was my jam and YES I had to peel it. The cheese in your picture though, it nearly impossible to peel…SO I just bit those ones. HA.
Katie @ KatieEnPursuit
Kid you not, since I’ve gotten to Chicago I’ve had an awkward elevator moment EVERYDAY! It’s killing me. One involved terrible cologne which made the ride almost unbearable, another was a super close stander who didn’t move when others exited & the 3rd was a very terrible conversationalist. Can’t win! I’m making the switch to Bloglovin’ & I think I like it…verdict’s still out for the moment 😉
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
I love gum. I used to be seriously addicted, but then I stopped cold turkey for about a month. I love it again but I limit myself to 2-3 times a day which seems like a lot to me. Oh well 🙂 My favorite flavor is extra peppermint! Sooooo jealous you’re going snowboarding. I went a few years back, I fell in love!! Have fun! <3
Miss Polkadot
Call me weird but I avoid escalator not for the reason you mentioned but the one that I’m … scared. Scared of getting stuck, that is. Whether with somebody else I don’t know or – the horror! – alone. When my friends take the escalator I’ll obviously jump in but in any other situtation I’d much rather take the stairs – even if I have to get to the fourth floor like today.
Okay, I’m not crazy about chewing gum at all but those flavours? They sound great and make Germany once again feel lame.
Facebook is by far the social media platform I use most: keeping in contact with family and friends living further away, exchanging updates on university classes with other students, …
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You need to teach me how to use it properly! I’m a complete nooblet when it comes to FB.
Miss Polkadot
Sure! Just hit me up with any questions.
Nicole
The Extra mint chocolate chip ice cream gum flavor is my FAVORITE. But I hate that strawberry shortcake one! Haha. Too sweet. You should try the new lemon tart one they have though! Oh man, the flavor lasts long and it is sooo refreshing.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We can’t even get them all around these parts! I see the strawberry shortcake and creamsicle ones on a pretty regular basis, but I got the mint choco chip flavor while I was in Hawaii.
Amanda, RD- The Nutritionist Reviews
Sounds like a fun trip! Have fun.
Carly @ Snack Therapy
Unpacking sucks. Put it off for as long as possibly.
I’m a total string cheese peeler. I never bite. I refuse to bite. String cheese is meant to be strung (stringed? strang?).
Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny
I won’t use elevators. I have this insanely irrational fear that I will be stuck in their alone when the power cuts out. I was having the string cheese debate with my friend the other day – I need to peel it, I think it tastes different when you just bite it!
Jess
I’m on Facebook quite a lot, but it’s blogs that take up the majority of my time – I follow way too many! I’m using both Bloglovin and Feedly until I get more of a sense of which one is most user-friendly to me. I’m about the only blogger who favours blogspot over wordpress so I’ll probably end up choosing the one that about two other people and their cat actually use 😛
There used to be this gorgeous GF bread in the UK called ‘Mrs. Crimbles’ but they stopped making it in 2010. A very sad day for me indeed. They still make the mix, but it never comes out as well as the fresh loaves. Hmph.
The last thing I ordered online …uh, I think it was some protein bars. I seem to have replaced about 50% of my diet with them. Oh well!
xxx
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Unpacking is the absolute worst!! If I do not do it right when I get home then it will not get done for days or weeks. There is just nothing fun about it!
I happen to love your gum collection. It makes me feel much better about mine! I think I have about 5-6 different flavors right now ;).
Alex @ therunwithin
YOU HAVE TO PEEL IT, gosh you just gave me a heart attack. You need to peel it. When I see people chomp it I want to say ‘you don’t deserve that string cheese’. I will forgive you but it will take some time. I didn’t know you were a snowboarder? How cool!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yup! Snowboarding for 15 or 16 years now. And I’m sorry to disappoint you, but they’re just so conveniently packaged! Maybe I need to start buying those Babybel cheeses instead…
molly @ heart, sole & cereal
i don’t really use elevators either! my elevator in my building is SOOOO SLOOWWWWW so that’s definitely the prime reason i don’t use it but i’d be lying if i said it doesn’t make me feel a little good about myself. you know, i take the STAIRS and all that. obnoxious, i know. i’m working on it i swear. your gum collection is impressive – i couldn’t keep that much gum because i eat piece after piece if i have access to it. can’t stop myself, the second a piece loses flavor i toss another one in.
Elizabeth@myneonrunningshoes
Have fun on your trip!!! Can totally relate about the unpacking and gum (hoarding?). Just kidding. But I also like to have options because you’re right, you just never know what you’re gonna crave and this way you have flexibility 🙂
Lucie
Oh how exciting that you ride the slopes on the weekend! I must say that I did not go yet, so lame since I am that close to the mountains and Switzerland has some fantastic spots, really. I hope you’ll shoot some pics!
I like Bloglovin a lot, Feedly confuses me, haha 🙂 There we have it. But after all, most of the time I check Twitter or Facebook to see what posts are new.
Lisa
Haha, I’m SO bad at unpacking my suitcases. I leave them out for like an extra 2 weeks. It’s like I just wish I could be back on vacay;)
Ah, you’re liking feedly. I think it’s so confusing haha. Maybe I’m just not that technology smart, but it seems a little too high tech for me. Which is kind of embarrassing. Yikes.
I’m a serious gum addict as well, each time I go shopping or to the grocery store I always must pick up a new flavor. If I don’t get that much variety in my diet, might as well spice it up with my gum? 😉
I’m the worst at social media. I hardly ever go on facebook and twitter. I should probably get better, you know since I am a blogger.
Happy Thursday love!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lol yeah that’s what I keep telling myself as well. Definitely making some progress on that front, but there’s so much to learn and I have no idea where to get all the info!
Sarah @PickyRunner
I HATE elevators and escalators. I will avoid them like the plague. I think it’s because my mom told me I was going to get stuck in the escalator when I was younger and it has just gone downhill from there. I don’t think I’m going to unpack my suitcase from florida either. It will mean I’m not really home. Jealous of your upcoming trip! I only got to ski once this year and it was just not enough for me. I could go every weekend and be a really happy camper.
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
Instagram is by far my favorite app. It is so easy to use and I love taking random pictures. Twitter-I’m still getting used to. It took me awhile to figure out how to tweet someone or figure out the point of hash tagging. Have fun on your trip!
Parita
I love IG! It’s my favorite because I’m obsessed with pictures. 🙂
And I’m totally a string cheese biter too! My husband gets so mad when he sees me doing it too because “that’s not the way you’re supposed to eat it.” Personally I think it tastes better the way I do it. Like you said, to each his/her own!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It DOES taste better that way! When you peel it into small pieces, you can’t even taste all any real cheesiness!
Sarah @ Blonde Bostonian
I HAVE to peel string cheese. Don’t ask me why. It’s this weird thing I have with it. Also, that song is perfect for spin class. Especially for slow hills.
Christina
I brought back so much gum when I came back from America! I love the strawberry shortcake and mint choc-chip ice cream flavours!
Khushboo
Haha I couldn’t help but laugh about your suitcase! I have major OCD when it comes to unpacking- no matter how late it is or how tired I am, I always unpack immediately. It makes settling back into routine that much easier! I’ve never tried Ezekiel bread and I used to really wish it was available here. As of now, I am not bothered at all- it sounds great but I’m equally happy with the wholewheat or rye bread I buy from the Le Pain Quotidien bakery over here. As for making my own bread, sweet loaves are as close as I have gotten…mm banana bread :)!
Your trip this weekend sounds awesome- very impressed you can snow board!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I start unpacking the second I get home too, but those last little details never make it out!
Robyn
I LOVE packing for trips but absolutely HATE unpacking. And my OCD cannot handle the way you eat your string cheese lol I must peel it, and if the peeled string is too big I will peel it into smaller pieces so it seems “right”…not sure whats up with that!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
See, I’m completely the opposite – I can’t stand packing because I’m always thinking that I forgot something, and I start unpacking pretty much the second I get home, but it’s those last little bits that never seem to make it out of my suitcase 😆
Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness
I have such a gum problem too! I am addicted and always have several packs going in my bag! Nothing wrong with that 😉
