1. These are, hands down, the best beauty secrets that I’ve ever come across.
2. And speaking of beauty, I’d like to introduce you to my beautiful lip balm collection…
… or at least most of it. I think. A tad excessive, you say? Nay! I really, really can’t stand having chapped lips, so I keep them at bay by making sure I have some lip balm within arm’s reach at all times. The best way to do that? Keep one everywhere. In all my purses. In my car. In my makeup bag. In the kitchen. In my office. In my nightstand. In each bathroom. In my closet. In my jacket pockets. Ev.ry.where.
3. I have a confession to make, although you have to promise me that you won’t think less of me when I shed some light on the darker side of my nature. Here goes… Whenever I see someone throw a cigarette butt on the ground, I secretly wish that I could pick it up and shove it down their throat. I really can’t stand it when people litter; and as if smoking weren’t gross enough on its own (sorry, but it’s true), I will never understand why people feel the need to make it even grosser by tossing their butts *left eye twitch*
4. On to something a little less sinister… I have no idea what it is, but I adore the smell of tomato stems…
I have a slight inkling that it might be because it reminds me of summertime as a child. My mom used to do a lot of gardening when I was younger, and I remember spending a lot of time playing around the garden and breathing in all the fragrant greeny smells. Good times for sure.
5. That being said, I don’t think anything will ever replace coffee as one of my all-time favorite smells.
I brought some kona coffee back from Hawaii with me, and sipping on it definitely takes me back to the mornings I spent watching the sun rise over the ocean… *tears up* … Still not ready to talk about it…
6. It snowed last night; and it’s currently -17ºC (1ºF). That’s all I have to say about that…
7. I somehow managed to forget my wallet at home the other day when I went to volunteer, and since turning back was kind of out of the question because I was running kind of late, I took a chance and kept driving… without my license. Given my horrible luck with the police, it’s kind of a miracle that I didn’t get pulled over.
8. On one of my flights back from Hawaii, I somehow got sucked into watching Here Comes the Boom. The movie itself wasn’t anything special, but I loved it because it reminded me of a song that I used to be absolutely obsessed with…

9. Have you guys heard the sad news about Google Reader? Come July 1st, Google Reader will be no more. I’ve been using Reader for years now and I’m kind of at a loss over what to do… Looks like I’ll have to start getting more familiar with Bloglovin. Bah. I’m getting too old for all these technology changes…
10. So today is pi day (3.14) and I really feel like I should be celebrating with some pie, but the thing is… I’m not a big fan of pie 😯 That being said, I do need to do some baking because, like I mentioned in my last post, I’m suffering from serious homemade goodies withdrawal. But what to make?! I’d love to share a recipe with you guys, so let me know if you’d like to see cookies, muffins, bars, or a loaf.
. – . – . – .
Cookies, muffins, bars, or a loaf? 😀
What do you use to follow blogs? Google Reader? Bloglovin’? E-mail? Something else?
Parita
I’m with you 110% on #3!!! OMG…there’s this one guy that lives in the same apt. building as us, and every time I walk outside he’s smoking…with his 2 y/o baby next to him. AHHHHHHHHH! It makes me SO MAD.
And to end this comment on a postive note, I love #1. Very true!
lindsay
love those verses! best beauty secret ever!
p.s.
my father in law used to own a coffee farm in kona. I miss the smells
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
!!! Admit it… that’s part of the reason you married the hubs 😉
lindsay
that and the accent.
😉

Sooo confession: I’ve been blogging for 3 years and am still not quite sure what or how Google Reader works! I go the old school way and just visit my favorite blogs with hopes that they have a new post up….probably not the most efficient way of keeping up ;)! I’m totally with you about coffee being one of the most heavenly scents…along with vanilla and cocoa butter!
As for your baking conundrum- my vote goes towards a loaf! Is there anything better than a slice of freshly made bread with a steaming mug of coffee or tea?? I THINK NOT!
Katie @ KatieEnPursuit
Ugh, the cigarette but thing! No bueno…I have an immense hatred for people who litter, there’s no excuse for it! More of a cookie fan normally but bars are growing on me. And this “end of Google Reader” situation is troublesome, sounds like a lot of effort to switch. Pogs were all the rage for a bit growing-up. I also had a large collection of Garbage Pail Kid cards, so fun!
kim@hungryhealthygirl
I feel the exact same way about cigerette butts…one of my pet peeves! Coffee is smell favorite smell too. I’ve been using a combination of facebook, twitter and email to keep up with blogs and it’s really not convenient. I’m going to try out bloglovin too!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
If you find yourself not liking Bloglovin, I’ve also heard good things about Feedly! I might end up trying that one out as well.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I have a pretty sweet sunglasses collection. I have roughly 15 pairs and have them displayed in my room on a wire dress mannequin for easy access when I’m heading downstairs in the morning. I like to coordinate my pair of sunglasses with my outfits and try not to wear the same pair in the same week/two week period. My sister and I used to have beanie babies everywhere.. we have a whole 10-gallon tub filled with them. Oops! I think you should make a loaf of some sort because I was thinking that I wanted to make a loaf in the near future. I use Google Reader to read all my blogs..and it’s the only one I use! I’ve been getting frustrated with blogspot recently…(so early in my blogging career!)so maybe it’s time to just switch to another system.
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian
I am completely shocked and upset over this google reader shutdown. I saw the news today when I logged into google reader and I couldn’t even believe it. I use reader every single day (and it’s the only way I really read blogs). I think this is a bad decision by google. There’s still a market for RSS readers.
cori @olivetorun
EOS lipgloss is one of my FAVORITE things that I have to hate in my purse 🙂
Kaila @healthyhelperblog!
YES about the cigarette thing. No offense to smokers…but I can’t be around them. The smell gives me an instant headache and makes me feel so sick.
And that tomato pic is absolutely gorgeous! What kind of camera do you have?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks girlie! I use a Canon EOS7D.
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
I love your “thinking out loud” posts!
I am 100% in agreement on the cigarette butt thing! So disgusting. Also, your lip balm collection is quite impressive and I’m a little jealz. I’ve been wanting to try those eos rounded lip glosses- I see them everywhere!
Nicole
I wish we could trade lip balms…. you have the neat fancy kind while I stick with the cheap Lipsmackers 😀 However, I do enjoy my Lipsmackers because they have the yummiest tastes! Haha. Okay, now I feel creepy for saying “Lipsmackers” so many times in one paragraph…. hmmm.
I used to collect Spice Girls memorabilia (still love those girls! ha), stickers, stuffed animals, barbies…. I did go through a tomboy phase where I collected little toy cars.
Andrea
I also hate when people throw their cigarette butts on the ground! Ughhh.
I just save blogs under my favorites/bookmarks and they have their own folder. That’s just what works for me!
Meghan @ After the Ivy League
Love the smell of coffee too, almost as much as I love the taste (and the caffeine!). I follow a lot of blogs through email already, and some through Google Reader. I guess I’ll have to switch to another reader but yes, I agree I’m too old for these technology changes! And I’ve reallyyy been craving a nice baking session too. Fingers crossed I’ll be able to on Sunday.
Amanda, RD- The Nutritionist Reviews
I absolutely love your lip balm collection! When I was in middle school, I literally had over 300 lip glosses. Haha
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I hope a good deal of them were LipSmackers! Those were the best <3
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
I am so sorry about #6!! That must be incredibly rough after just having gotten back from warm and beautiful Hawaii!! :/
I am all about muffins! They are so cute and they have portion control built in. If I had a whole loaf I might get a little crazy! 😉
Sabrina @ Nutritiously Sweet
lmao, okay I though I was the only one who had way too much chapstick. Good to know lol 🙂
kris
so much i want to say!!
1) love #1.
2) it is necessary to have lip balm within reach at ALL times. And that is quite the impressive collection you have there.
3) OMGEEE! I totally feel you about the cigarette butts! every time I see someone toss one out the window of their car I want to blare my horn at them. And i NEVER use my car horn. I can’t understand why on top of polluting our air, they need to also pollute our grounds.
4) I have the sudden need to go smell a tomato stem as I’ve never actually smelt one before.
5) agreed.
6) Stay warm!
7) This seems to happen to me about once a week. It’s become quite the bad habit.
9) so NOT happy about google reader disappearing soon!!
I totally collected beanie babies, pogs, and stickers when I was younger too! My friends and even had sticker trading get togethers where we would bring our binders full of stickers and trade. It was kind of intense.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
!!! I used to do that with my friends too! We’d come up with all sorts of complex rules about the “value” of stickers depending on whether they were fuzzy, shiny, or poofy. Lol oh man. Good times.
Miss Polkadot
Aw, these really are the best beauty secrets ever!
Okay, seeing that second picture gives me full permission to go all out on buying chapsticks now. Seriously, I already felt weird for having more than two when I actually wanted to have all different kinds of lip butter/balm/chapsticks. As luck would have it I’ve just gotten my salaries …
Regarding the Google reader troubles I’ve already suggested it via Twitter but am not sure you’ve seen it: NewsFox might be an alternative.
Amanda @ Run Principessa
Bloglovin has been awesome for me! Nice and clean interface, which I love. So cigarettes hitting the ground also pisses me off. I just want to punch people in the throat, but then I figure they’re doing that to themselves anyway so I don’t have to. YIKES, I feel passionately about that! And that beauty image at the top is beautiful. 🙂
Catherine
#1: I love it & need to take it to heart.
#3: A to the MEN. I hate litter! I constantly say that people who litter should be forced to eat their refuse! Too dramatic? Maybe. I’m just glad I’m not the only one who thinks such crazy stuff, haha. Just the other night at our local “art walk,” (in a supposedly nonsmoking area) a guy in front of me threw down his cigerette butt, and I loudly exclaimed, “Good thing that plastic filter disappears when you do that!” Oops.
I love the couple of Hawaii pics you’ve shared; hope it was an amazing vacation!
Oh, and I thought my lip balm addiction was intense, but yours eclipses mine in quantity. Now I collect pint glasses (well, mostly the husband does), but back in the day, it was My Little Pony and Beanie Babies!
Kat
I thought I had the biggest collection of chapstick! I stand corrected 🙂 I do have one in every purse and every desk though, although Opie thinks its funny to find them and eat them. Little jerk.
Ugh litter. Litter and smoking. Gross. nasty. True story littering is how my daddy got his dog. He was behind a truck that pulled over and threw a bag out the window (while still moving) Daddy stopped to pick it up because he’s all about saving the planet and noticed there was a puppy inside. That’s how we got our dog Molly!
Andrea
Wow, that is absolutely horrible! Some things people do just amaze me. But that is awesome that your dad stopped to pick up the bag – most people would have just kept driving.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
!!! Omigosh. That story is both horrific and heart-melting at the same time. I always freak out whenever I drive past bags laying on the street because I’m scared there’s some kind of animal inside. I can’t even imagine what kind of people would do that…
Courtney
Love the lip balms! And smoking is disgusting… I always intentionally cough really loudly when I walk by someone smoking 😉 Try bloglovin’! It’s really easy to use and catered to bloggers.
Pickyrunner
I hope you find something yumtastic to make and share 🙂 I love those beauty tips. I hate wearing makeup. I’m much more of a naturalist- maybe that’s because I’m lazy and afraid of looking like a clown. Thankfully I use bloglovin so I don’t worry about google reader but it was a big surprise when I saw all the tweets!
Kate @ Quarter Century Southern Living
I would love to see bars or a loaf! Oh who am I kidding? I would love to see cookies or muffins too!
Also, I love these beauty secrets. So true 🙂
Austin
In reading the news about Google Reader, I learned about Feedly. Currently trying to get used to it so that I’m not SOL when Google Reader’s officially gone.
Lift, Sleep, Eat
Ugh I hate it when people drop their cigarette butts?! Why!? There really is no need.
I was so upset when I logged into Google Reader and found out it was finishing! Gonna have to start using something else.
I collected Pokemon cards when I was younger..safe to say I was obsessed..I still think I have them all somewhere!
sara @ fitcupcaker
I use google reader and bloglovin, but I need to get more familiar with bloglovin. It’s pretty cold here too and we really need to discuss when warm weather will be arriving, its driving me crazy! I think I would like to see a loaf, Ive been craving muffins, and breads!
Alex @ therunwithin
I am so upset about google reader. don’t even get me started. i hate bloglovin so hope to find another alternative. snow? ouch sun to snow is never fun. I adore #1, that is a great quote. saving those tips for sure.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m not all that keen on Bloglovin either, but have you looked into Feedly? I’ve been hearing good things about that one, and apparently it’s pretty easy to transfer your Reader feed over, so the transition isn’t as harsh.
molly @ heart, sole & cereal
i don’t actually like pie either which i feel like is a bit sacrilegious given how much i genuinely love all desserts (typically). i do like coconut cream pie but in terms of fruity desserts i definitely prefer a crisp/crumble/cobbler over a pie any day. that didn’t stop me from having a slice of peach pie with my 7th graders this morning though – when it comes to celebrating a holiday, i’m not going to say no. and OMG i am always leaving my wallet at home. i switch bags so much (purse, gym bag, lunch bag) and am always tossing my wallet into one then not bringing it with me. miracle every single time that i don’t get a ticket.
Robyn
I too am heartbroken over Google Reader’s news. I read an article about alternatives and recently found Feedly.com, they import your Google Reader list so it’s a smooth transition, but I really don’t like change so I likely will cling tightly to Google Reader until they rip it out of my sweaty palms.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha same here! I’m secretly hoping that they’ll change their mind before July hits and decide to keep Reader, but if not, then Bloglovin it is… Although I’ve heard good things about Feedly so I might have to check that out.
Hollie
Bloglovin is good. I have a lot of blogs filtered so that I see what I want to see if that makes sense. Like I read more blogs that are relevant to me and less blogs…I’m not saying reading 100+ blogs are bad, I’m just saying it wasn’t for me.
I also really like the first picture of real beauty. Smiling is the number one best thing to do for that.
Does hoarding count as collecting?
Caitlin
Loaf!! I’m sorry it’s back to the cold reality of regular life…but i’m glad that you brought a taste of the islands back with you…totally agree with loving the smell of coffee and hating cigarettes…can’t stand going to smoky bars…they make me sick!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Are you guys still allowed to smoke in bars/restaurants down there? They put a ban on smoking inside public establishments up here a few years back, making it a lot easier to enjoy going out without coming home smelling like an ashtray.
Caitlin
only in some bars…no food can be present and i think there are some other regulations with it…thankfully I don’t run into too often but anytime I do, I can’t stay…turns my stomach immediately
Lisa
Haha your lip balm collection totally looks like mine, I can’t stop collecting them.
Coffee is totally one of my favorite smells! It’s like heaven and the coffee from Hawaii is delightful!
I’m so annoyed at Reader. Boo to that.
I collected beanie babies, my little ponies, disney movies, disney anything;), and dinosaurs haha, I went through an obsession with those.
My vote is for muffins or bars for sure!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
I use Reader, so I think i’m going to have to make the leap to BlogLovin’ too….bah. Changes. 🙁
And I vote for bars…I haven’t made bars in a while and I could use some inspiration!
Right now, I collect shoes and cookbooks…when I was a kid: Beanie Babies, Barbies and Polly Pockets. I think things have changed a tad :-p
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers
#1 really hits the nail on the head. Love it! I also get a crazy-girl twitch when I see someone litter. I get soooo mad that it kind of feels borderline psychotic. Anyway… craziness aside… I want pie.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Apple pie? Banana cream pie? Chocolate pie? Pecan pie? 😉
Lauren
I collected so many things when I was younger from Pogs to Pokemon Cards to Limited Edition Barbies. I was all over the place. Haha. I use Google Reader and I JUST got used to it so I guess I’ll have to move onto the next one. blast. I would definitely go with bars. Cookies might be too much since you’re coming back from vacation so bars are perfect haha. You still have to make them but you don’t need the tedious work of scooping each cookie onto the sheet 🙂
Happy Pi Day !
lisa fine
The Google Reader news is so sad! I’ve heard Feedly is pretty good, and can import all of your Google Reader feeds for you, so I may give that a try. Otherwise, I’ll probably use BlogLovin’.
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
Don’t worry I also have an extensive chapstick collection. I love finding a new one at the store to try out. I haven’t tried the Maybelline ones yet because I am not a big fan of color ones.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I find the colors to be pretty subtle, but if you’re not a fan then I definitely suggest picking up the colorless one called Quenched – it kind of smells like lemonade!
Carly @ Snack Therapy
Cookies all the way! I’m so sad about Google Reader going away! I’m going to feel so lost without it!
Sooo jealous of your lip balm collection. Variety is the spice of life!
lucie
Bars!!! I’d love to try a new recipe for bars.
Uh, that sunrise photo is breath taking. I can totally relate on the weather blues – we had a snowstorm here yesterday. There goes spring…..boooooh.
And I am the same with lip moisturizer. I have one EVERYWHERE. I never use the Google Reader, I use WordPress or Email – works perfectly.
