1. Let us observe a moment of silence to remember a dear friend. Kirby bit the dust kicked the bucket went on to a better place the other day at the tender age of 17 years (read: 17 days). He will be missed… or not…
2. This might make me a horrible person, but I feel the need to confess that I’m extremely happy about #1… It got to the point where the bugger was basically starved, miserable, and beeping at me every 20 minutes, and I was secretly considering “forgetting” him at home in an effort to kill him by an act of omission…
3. I haven’t been able to visit my regular Starbucks for the past week or so, which has resulted in frequent run-ins with baristas who can’t seem to make a decent cappuccino. I try to be nice about it, but if I’m paying out the wazoo and you’re giving me a latte when I ask for an extra foamy cappuccino, please don’t give me the stank eye when I ask you to remake it – I’m not going to apologize to you because you can’t get it right. And yes, I’m watching you like a hawk to make sure you don’t spit in my drink.
4. I have a new obsession. The other day, I was in a Starbucks [getting a horrible cappuccino] that was attached to a Chapters, when my ever-wandering eye caught sight of a book of word search puzzles…
Prior to this, I couldn’t even remember the last time I did a word search… and I had completely forgotten how much fun they are. Dangerous, though. If I’m not careful, I can easily sit down and start searching, only to realize that an hour has gone by without me even noticing.
5. Another obsession? Anything and everything tomato. I don’t know what it is, but lately I seem to be craving tomato based foods like crazy. Salsa. Ketchup. Pasta sauce. It’s quite embarrassing actually…
I’m talking jar, spoon, mouth embarrassing. Oh! And on that note…
6. Remember how last week I admitted that I couldn’t spell embarrassed? Well, this week I’m proud to say that I’ve finally been able to spell it properly on a regular basis. Win! The same thing actually happened to me with definitely. I used to spell it definitly and have to constantly deal with the annoying red squiggly line assaulting my retinas, but since I use it so often when I write, I started paying more attention and finally caught on. S M R T! Err… (Bonus points if you know where that’s from 😉 )
7. This just warms my heart…
8. As does this song; even if it gets stuck in my head…
[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd2yr12abg8&w=560&h=315″]
9. I’m kind of a clean freak, and by kind of I mean: clean up the kitchen before I eat, do the dishes after I eat, always put things in their proper place, etc. The one place this doesn’t seem to apply, though, is my bed – I never, ever make my bed. At best, I’ll half-assedly pull the covers over the side I was sleeping in, but for the most part the way my bed looks when I wake up in the morning is the way it looks when I crawl into it at night.
10. So remember how I ended yesterday’s post hinting that I have a secret to share? Sorry for being a tease, but my life is pretty boring on a day-to-day basis, so I try to jazz it up whenever I can. Anywho, the big secret is that I’ll be heading on vacation in exactly one week. Destination? Hawaii…
This winter has put me in a serious funk and I’m hoping that some time spent on warm sunny beaches will help cure that. This’ll be my first time visiting Hawaii after wanting to go for what seems like forever. Can.not.wait.
. – . – . – .
Do you play any mind puzzles? Sudoku? Crosswords? Brain teasers?
What are your current food obsessions?
Do you make your bed every morning?
Lauren
Ugh, I HATED making cappuccinos. Everyone had a different milk to foam ratio preference and it’s actually hard to get it right for each person. I’ve had some really nasty customers say something to me about how I made it wrong and then stare at me as I re-made it which just made me extra nervous. I think I’m traumatized.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Awwr I remember you mentioning that before. I’m definitely never mean to the baristas, but I’m not a big fan of getting the stank eye when I ask them to remake it… especially when it’s a little 18 year old punk who’s not even paying attention to my drink and just talking/laughing with the other baristas 😡
TJ
HAWAII!!! Congratulations that is SO awesome I cannot wait for you to blog about your trip.
It’s always a bummer when you go out to eat/get a drink expecting for it to be amazing and it is sub par.
Also, it took me forever to spell definitely right. I used to always spell it definately, I had to keep pronouncing it “de-FINITE-ly” so I could learn how to spell it properly.
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian
I feel you on the tomato obsession. Tomatoes are one of those foods that I can’t get enough of, and it’s been that way for years and years! I also love the quote about perfect/flawed people.
kaity @ kaityscooking
sooo jealous of hawaii ! i cant wait to see your pics from it they will warm me right up just looking at them :-)! definitely is one word i cannot spell either (spell check fixed it for me just now lol) so funny..word searches were my fav, i use to get so excited when i would have to do them in school! need to get me some of those..when they make any food/drinks of mine wrong i most of the time always tell them! mistakes happen but dont blame the customer for it!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha! I was thinking of how much I enjoyed doing word searches in school too. It’s like whenever we’d have an assignment that included finishing a works search, homework was suddenly fun.
Laura
I do crosswords AND word searches on a daily basis. In fact, I have a word search app on my phone that I use every time I’m waiting for a dr. or a ride or ANYTHING. It’s my go-to time killer.
Recently I’ve been in a yogurt and peanut butter CRAZE! However, I tried sunbutter for the first time a few nights ago and I have to say…pb has a competitor!
Laura
I LOVE Hawaii! Only been once, but it was spectacular.
Yep, making my bed is one of the first things I do when I get up. It’s pretty much automatic.
Kat
And you didnt invite me??!!!! Any chance you will have a layover in LAX? 😉
I think one of the reasons I avoid Starbucks now is because of the service. It seems like everytime I go they are training someone, and this person just doesnt know how to make a good cup of joe!! Which is probably why I order tea now lol They cant really mess up a tea bag and hot water right?!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
No layover in LAX 🙁 We’re flying through Vancouver on the way there and Seattle on the way back.
Jo @ LivingMintGreen
You will LOVE Hawaii… it has a vibe unlike no other & it will leave a lifelong impression in your heart! It’s one of my favorite places. Which island?!
I rarely make my bed – unless company is coming over, haha. Foodwise, I’ve been obsessed with fresh strawberries, homemade salmon & avocado nori rolls & garlic stuffed olives. Random…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We’ll be staying in Honolulu, but I’d really love to travel to some of the other islands while we’re there. I’ve been hearing that it’s a place like no other, which is going to make it super hard to come back to drabby old Alberta 😕
Jo @ LivingMintGreen
Either way, it’ll be amazing. I hope you share your trip on the blog. Will you bring me back some taro malasadas?! 😉
Stephanie
I went to Hawaii a couple years ago and I’m so jealous! I would love to go back. I hope you have a fabulous time!
I’ve always loved word-search puzzles. I never really got on the sudoku bandwagon. 🙂 I am so so guilty of not making my bed as often as I should. It’s a bit embarrassing actually. My current food obsession is chocolate and peanut butter. But I think that’s always the case. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ooo! Which island(s) did you go to? Can you recommend any must-see sights?! Sorry for the questions, but it’s my first time and always nice to hear from someone who’s been
Stephanie
No problem! 🙂 But I don’t think I can be much help. The last time I was in Hawaii, I stayed in Honolulu, Oahu at a really pretty resort on Waikiki Beach (which is really beautiful). There’s also great shopping in Honolulu, haha. But I didn’t do a lot of sight-seeing. I was also in Hawaii when I was super young and stayed on Maui I believe. But I don’t really remember much from then. I know that Kauai is supposed to be beautiful. Anywhere you go will be amazing though!
Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny
I love your blog – but I think this is the first time I’m commenting tho =/
I have a sick obsession with crossword puzzles, I might have to start on word searches now. I’m a neat freak, definitely do make my bed everyday (come to think of it, I’m surprised I spelled definitely correct!) and obsessively wash dishes and put everything back in their place. I think my fiancee hates me sometimes…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Awwwr, well thanks for saying hi! 😀
Alice
I forgot how much I missed the random coolness of your blog! I used to do the crossword everyday with my dad when he got home from work but it is a bit harder since I moved abroad. Now whenever I phone my parents I can hear him yelling out clues in the background when my mum is talking 😛
Miss Polkadot
Don’t make me develop an obsession for word puzzles, too. I’m already embarassed by being the 20-something secretly and shamefully enjoying her crosswords and sudokus a little too much. My parents sure think I’m a bit crazy … well, crazier than I already am to them ;).
Glad to know I’m not the only one craving tomato-based anything – and it’s been going strong for weeks for me already. Does it have something to do with winter and tomatoes being perfectly summery? I don’t know but for now I’ll just roll with it as long as I’m not craving winter vegetables in summer :D.
I always always always make my bed in the morning. Don’t ask about the remainder of my room 😉 but a messed up bed gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hah! We’d make pretty good roomies then because the rest of my room being messy gives me the heebie jeebies, so you could make the beds, and I’d clean up the clutter 😉
Miss Polkadot
Agreed – now that’s what I call a good deal! When would you like to come over and help me clean up ;)?
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl)
R.I.P. Kirby 🙁
I LOVE LOVE LOVE crossword puzzles and word games – I do at least 5 different ones every morning. I’m a nerd, I know.
Your Hawaii trip will be amazing!!!!
Devon @ Health in Equilibrium
I totally know what you mean with the Tamagochi thing. It’s like having a child, except one that poops and cries, but doesn’t do all of the cute stuff… I’m a tomato-product fiend! It’s actually embarrassing to eat scrambled eggs with other people because of the quantity of ketchup I use.
Nicole @ Fruit 'N' Fitness
I have been loving peanut butter as always and strawberries!
Alex @ therunwithin
VACATION IN A WEEK you are a tease. Oh hold up….. second of silence. I’m back. That thing had to go, kind of like our furby that i took a hammer too. Whoops. I love tomato based stuff, I have been eating it up lately too.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha! I almost took a hammer to this sucker, but I don’t have one at home. I clearly fail as a homeowner… I don’t have needle and thread or an iron either 😯 I suppose I could have used a meat tenderizer though…
Lauren
I do not make my bed or at most, like you, I just throw the comforter in the right place and call it quits. I absolutely love Sudoku but that’s because I’m a math nerd 🙂 Salsa with beans + corn = the.best.
Elizabeth@myneonrunningshoes
RIP Kirby! Glad he’s in a better place! I make my bed once every ten days or so? Current food obsessions are yogurt, champagne pear salad dressing (on salad, not plain), cookie cake, and cheesecake 🙂
Meghan @ After the Ivy League
I still can’t spell embarrassed. Another super hard one? Occasions. <—thank you spell check. I can never remember whether it's two s's or c's or whatever. Sneaky words! And Hawaii!! Ahhhh have a great time! It'll be amazing to escape this winter, that's for sure!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Hawaii?!? I’m pretty sure I could fit in a suitcase…I’m in desperate need of a winter escape.
I used to do the newspaper crossword when I was getting the newspaper daily, I miss it! The ones in London weren’t particularly difficult, so I always felt proud of myself when I finished them :-p
My bed gets made when I wash the sheets…that’s enough for me :-p
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Heehee… I don’t even make my bed when I wash the sheets… It still just gets thrown on randomly. I swear that it’s actually the most comfortable that way… You know how in hotels they tuck in all the sheets so that you can barely even move your feet unless you pull it all apart? Who the heck sleeps that way?!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
haha YES! One of the few things I actually dislike about hotels.
Nicky
HAWAII?! JEALOUS! I really want to go there and right now a holiday sounds so so so good. Especially because my parents are going to Barbados today whilst I’m stuck here at uni. Pity party for me 😛
OH salsa. How I love thee. I don’t know what they put in the stuff but it is so addictive!!
I am the laziest person on the planet so the bed is definitely the last thing on my mind to be made! I don’t see the point anyway..I get in and out of it everyday and it’s not like anyone is going to see..and when I know they will, I do make it then I admit. But otherwise, it feels the same to me whether it’s made or unmade! 🙂
Lift, Sleep, Eat
I love cryptic crosswords! I get so frustrated that I can never finish them though – theyre so hard!
You’re so lucky going to Hawaii – looks beautiful! Sure you’ll have an amazing time!
Missy
Number 10 is deserving of my wanna-be Amanda Squeel…
EEEeeeeEEEEEeeeeE!!!
I am obsessed with chocolate milk right now.
Nesquick and almond milk with a slight hint of sea salt.
Cannot stop.
I love that little Nesquick Rabbit.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Wait… what?! Adding sea salt to chocolate milk concoctions?! Genius! I’ve been kind of obsessed with the chocolate/salt combo since I first tried it, so that sounds like all kinds of amazing to me.
Missy
Do it,,,, I will even add it too my sweet coffee now and again. “Salt on ALL the things!” and I especially love it on watermelon so .. I mean! Do it girl.
The idea for the salt with choco-milk came form Sophia of “Modern Family” <– which is a WONDERFUL Tv show and now that I mention that ….
Do you even watch TV? I know…movies and video games but I am for sure never recall a mention of TV,. Hmm.
I will stay tuned.
lindsay
i triple that ditto! do it do it do it! sooooo good!
p.s.
You know we used to live in kona, HI. Where ya heading?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I can’t imagine how you would ever leave a place like that! And we’ll be staying in Honolulu, but probably end up doing some travelling between the islands.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Nope, don’t watch much TV – I don’t even have cable. I used to when I first moved in, but decided to cancel it since I always turned to books, games, or movies when I had a free moment. Sometimes I feel really out of the loop when people start talking about their current favorite shows, but I just could never bring myself to sit down and watch.
Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness
I’m so jealous of your trip! Take me to Hawaii with you!!! I love that saying that no one is perfect! So true. I really don’t ever think anyone will be but I think it’s the imperfections that we tend to love about people!
Caitlin
I love word searches!! They’ve always kept me entertained for hours haha…crosswords and sudoku annoy me because i actually have to think and come up with the answer but word searches are fabulous 😉 i’m always on a tomato kick and will add them in any form to almost anything and the spoonful right into your mouth? Pssh right there with you 🙂
molly @ heart, sole & cereal
ohhh poor kirby. or not. i always remember getting super annoyed by my tamagatchi by the time their death inevitably rolled around. i’m with you on the tomato obsession – spaghetti sauce (real homemade and jarred) has been my absolute jam lately. and more power to you for asking them to remake the drink – i totally don’t do that because i get shy and then i just get fired up.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m still waiting on getting a taste of that homemade spaghetti sauce that you’ve been bragging about 😉
Lucie
Aaah!! I just told Sandro that you will be flying to Hawaii. He just rolled his eyes in jealousy. How exciting girl!!! Pleeeeease take some pics!
I am pretty neat too, i always make my bed. But I am so lame when it comes to my wardrobe. I can’t keep it neat it’s spelled.
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables
Oh my gosh I’ve been obsessed with that Atlas Genius song since last year! I listened to it on repeat, and I’m still not sick of it!
Lisa
Haha poor little tamogtchi. Those things never last long.
Sudoku is my jam!!! Seriously, I’m so obsessed with that game. I have to play a game before I go to bed each night, it’s some weird quirk I have hah.
Oh man, Hawaii would be amazing right about now! Lucky girl!! We were actually going to go to Hawaii in March, but decided to save it. Dang.
I do make my bed each morning, I can’t even function knowing it isn’t made, it’s like one of those weird things I have. My day doesn’t feel normal without doing that.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Love sudoku! Before I came across these word searches, sudoku was pretty much the only other game I’d play, and I’d go through about 5 or 6 puzzles a day. And it’s too bad that you won’t be going to Hawaii! Maybe we would have ended up in the same place at the same time <3
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I used to do a crossword puzzle every day, but I haven’t in a long time. I LOVE them. I’m really good at Wheel of Fortune though. Like..mind-blowingly good (yes, I’m tooting my own horn), to the point where I would win like maybe $1000 total because I know the puzzles really early and the wheel knows when you’re getting greedy. I’m obsessed with strawberries lately, and dark chocolate. YUM! And I make my bed 0 times. The only time I ever make it is when I change my sheets. That’s it.
Kate @ Quarter Century Southern Living
Hawaii!? Oh my goodness, have SO much fun!! My parents left for Hawaii this morning and I must admit, I wish I was heading there with them! Instead, I will be taking care of their two dogs 🙂 I am so excited for you!!
Sarah @pickyrunner
1) can I hide in your suitcase?
2) rip Kirby 🙁 full disclosure: I’d probably try to kill him off too
3) I’m a neat freak too. Like its really terrible. I have this weird obsession with doing dishes and cleaning my room.
That’s all 🙂 basically I’m mostly just wishing I was going to Hawaii too
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Well, I will be packing light, but a few people have asked already, so it might be a little crowded 😉
Ksenija @ Health Ninja
Congrats on the Hawaii Vacation – it sounds heavenly!
And I am a eating clean freak, too. While cooking I usually already do the dishes so that I can sit down and enjoy my meal in a clean surrounding. Tastes better that way, doesn’t it 😉 ?
Oh right, and congrats again, for polishing up your English by doing word search puzzles 😀 – am I the only one who thinks #4 and #6 are somehow connected?
Carly @ Snack Therapy
RIP Kirby. How tragic ; ). Anddd… PLEASE try to fit me into your suitcase? I need a Hawaiian vacay right about now.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ll be packing light so there’ll be plenty of room 😉
Jessica @ Prayers and Apples
aww! poor Kirby! RIP Kirby lol 🙂 …and Hawaii?! JEALOUSSSS 🙂
Parita
I am a self-proclaimed neat freak, BUT the bed is one thing that is ok to make “half-assedly”…in my opinion. I don’t have time to tuck in the sheets and make it all perfect in the morning! In fact, Vishnu does a better job at this than I do. Shhh…don’t tell him!
And Hawaii?! Lucky!
Karey @ Nutty About Health
So jealous that you’re going to Hawaii!! I’ve never been there, but really want to go sometime. My current food obsessions seems to be oat bran concoctions, squash, & fruit. Oh, & trail mix… can’t even keep it in the house. LOVE the Handful of Everything Archer Farms one at Target. Seriously addicting. It’s like crack.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m very much looking forward to Target finally making it’s way to Canada this Spring! I really want to see what all the fuss is about… but mostly to see what their selection of food is like 😉
sara @ fitcupcaker
I have an obession with pumpkin lately.. its not even fall, but I guess that is ok right?? And I officially hate you for going to Hawaii, you are so lucky!
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
Oh my gosh, Hawaii sounds fabulous. I hope you have a great time relaxing on the beach with tropical drinks. The ones with the little umbrellas always make everything feel so festive! On another note, I always feel bad sending my drink back if they give me the wrong one. I know it’s expensive, but I don’t want to bother the barista. And after seeing the movie “Waiting”, I’ll stick to my less than fab drink haha.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I used to feel really bad about it too, and there were a lot of times where I didn’t bother sending it back, but after a while it just kind of gets old 🙁 I’m not even super picky about it, but when my capp is WAY too wet, then I’ll be asking them to redo it for sure.
Tiff (@LoveSweatBeers)
OMG, I’m like 10 diff kinds of jealous right now. I need some beach in my life, and I’ve never been to Hawaii. I’m sure you’re going to love it though. Perhaps you can even find a good cappuccino while you’re there. 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
One can only hope!
