Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. So many fun things to talk about today that I don’t know where to start! Ok. Ok. Let’s go withhhh… Ipsy! My glam bag came earlier this week and it seriously felt like Christmas in July August. I mean, getting packages in the mail is always fun times, but it’s even more fun when you don’t actually know what’s in them. I was pretty stoked with all the stuff I got in this month’s bag (makeup sponge, lip creme, nail polish, primer, & hair cream), so I’m going to keep my subscription rolling. I’ll let you guys know if I think you should join the fun after another bag or two.
2. And as good as it feels to get packages in the mail, it feels even better to find sunglasses that fit your face. I’ve been looking for a pair of aviators for years, but every single one I ever tried on looked absolutely ridiculous on me. And then these came along…
I only had to travel 2,398km (1,490 miles)to find them 😂
3. Speaking of Vegas, I never did manage to get those 20,000 steps in. Came close, though!
4. And speaking of steps, I’ve actually rekindled my relationship with my FitBit. I got my Charge HR at some point last year, but only wore it for a little while before I got bored of it. Fast forward to now, and I’m realizing that it’s actually a pretty useful tool if you need a little extra motivation to get those steps in… like I do 😕 As much as I love working from home, it usually means a lot of time on the computer, which means a lot of time sitting down. What I love about the FitBit is that, not only does does it let me see if I’m slacking on the movement that day, but it actually has a function that encourages you to get up and move (just 250 steps) every hour. And why’s this movement business so important? Well, to be completely honest, I’ve noticed that I feel a lot better when I’m moving regularly instead of planting myself in one spot and vegging for a couple hours. My mood is better, my digestion works better, and I have way more energy. I really like that it tracks your sleep, too. Or maybe I’m just wearing it to cover up the weird tan line it gave me in Vegas 😂
5. Another thing I’m loving? The Way of Shadows. I finished it halfway through my Vegas trip, and actually started reading it again since I didn’t bring any other books with me. I planned to only read it until I got home (since I have books 2 and 3 waiting), but I kept going because I’m picking up SO many things that I missed the first time around. This book has a tonne of plot twists, and Weeks inserts so many hints throughout the book that make way more sense the second time around. I definitely recommend picking it up!
6. Oh! And I think I figured out why I couldn’t get on board with hot coffee for so long – it’s because I was going to Bux every day, and I realized that they just make their regular coffee way too strong for my tastes. I had no issues with the hot coffee in Vegas (I know, right?), and no issues with the hot coffee that I’ve been making at home since I got back, so I’m thinking my Starbucks office days might be done for now…
7. I’m thinking this post might be done too, BUT! I have a VIQ (very important question) to ask before I go, and that is… which recipe would you guys like to see first? I was originally going to post the pancakes that I showed you yesterday, but then I made some killer muffins (which you would have seen if you follow my Instagram stories) that basically rocked my socks off. They’ll both be up eventually, it’s just a matter of when. Let me know! I’m going to set up a poll on Twitter just to make it easier to see the votes.
8. And on that note… I hope you have an awesome Thursday! Make it an epic one 😎
Let’s chat!

if those muffins are GF i totally vote muffins !!!
Rachael @ Catch me if you can
I love aviators but they look stupid on my face 🙁 pancake recipe! I live for pancakes 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I can’t even tell you how many I tried on that looked SO bad on me. I think these work because they’re bigger and more square than droopy.
Shashi @ RunninSrilankan
I’m not sure if I could choose between those muffins and pancakes – I think I’d have to have a berry muffin, chocolate pancake sandwich! YES!! Thats how I’d have to roll! No pun intended!
And Amanda, if you are looking to get in your steps on vacay – NYC is the way to go – my daughter and I averaged 18 to 20 miles everyday – and that’s only the walking bits! 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That’s some serious mileage! I have a feeling NYC would be a little easier than Vegas since it’s basically impossible to be outside in the dessert!
Turner
Try the Blonde roast option at SB, I like it much better. I love the one called Veranda. You might find that more to your taste.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ll give it a go. Thanks!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
Hi Amanda! I’m actually bringing and old book with me to Vegas this weekend and going to re-read the first half because I never made it through the first time hahah. Sweet shades! Happy Thursday and welcome home!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
I love my Fitbit! It definitely motivates me to get moving throughout the day and completely agree that it helps keep my brain and digestion fresh. I like going for a ‘digestion’ walk after lunch to get things moving. Eating then sitting still = the worst feeling. It makes me so tired!
I also loved my Ipsy subscription. I had to cancel it though because I’ve accumulated so much makeup that it was getting ridiculous! Hahaha
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I have a feeling that’s going to be my issue as well 😆 And it’s crazy how much more energetic I feel when I’m spending way more energy. Like you’d think it would be the opposite, ya know?
Katie
Both the pancakes AND the muffins look great – it’s so hard to decide! But as I do love breakfast the most, I’ll have to request the pancakes first please!!😄
amanda -runtothefinish
wohoo your site is working again!!!! I would be up for a great pancake recipe!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You noticed the probs?!? Grrr I have no idea what that one was, but it came just as randomly as it went 😡
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
Finding the perfect pair of sunglasses is everything! Enjoy them – they’re lovely! Xo.
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass
I’ve been sort of eh on coffee recently, and I think it’s the Keurig machine at work. I think it needs cleaned & has been churning out sort of gross burnt tasting coffee recently. Also, my work area gets morning sun & is always SO HOT in the morning – it makes it hard to enjoy hot coffee
Bethany (Lulu)
Yay for your love of coffee coming back, when one of my strongest aversions during my first trimester was coffee- I was so sad I couldn’t get down a mug of coffee! Thankfully, it is back in my life 😉
Man, that is a tough decision…but I think the pancakes first 🙂
Sarah @ BucketListTummy
Muffins! I love portable, tasty little snackies. 17,000 steps is still impressive!
Emily Swanson
Pancakes? Cause pancakes make a really easy weekend breakfast! 🙂 And getting packages in the mail is amazing; it feels like Christmas all over again. That’s wonderful that you found some sunglasses that worked well; that’s kind of like me finding hats that fit me! It usually takes a long time, but when I do it’s like a huge victory. :)))
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Pancakes won, which makes sense seeing as it’ll be pancake Sunday and all 🙂 Also… finding comfortable, well-fitting jeans may just be the best thing ever 😀
Mar @ Mar on the Run
haha, dying over the FitBit tan line because for reals. I work from home as well and it’s a challenge to myself to get those hourly 250 steps in because once I’m sitting an engrossed in something I can be there for hours. Not moving for long periods of time isn’t good!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Have you tried setting an alarm to remind you every hour? It doesn’t take too long to get those steps in, and you can even just walk around your home to get them in… which is what I usually end up doing 😆
Jen Rawson, RD (@PrettyLilGrub)
I used to get the Ipsy bag. It was fun, I love the surprise of opening it but I found I just ended up with too many products I didn’t use after a while so I cancelled.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I have a feeling the same might happen to me over time!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
I’m going to be of no help to you and say that both look delicious! I’m glad you had a good trip in Vegas!!
Kat
I know that I should be muffined-out by now, but dangggg those things look incredible. I vote for muffins 😉
Gretchen
I actually HATE starbucks coffee. I never order it from there..it tasted old and burnt to me. Might sound like a coffee snob, but I’ll go elsewhere 🙂 Love the sunglasses!
Judy Litt
I was going to say muffins, but those pancakes look amazing.
I’m kind of surprised you couldn’t get up to 20,000 steps in Vegas — then again, since it’s August, maybe I’m not!
Made the deep dish chocolate cookies today — using straight quick oats since I didn’t want to wake my husband & didn’t have enough oat flour — it makes a perfect muffin. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m surprised too! But we spent time by the pool and shopping, which is being on your feet but not exactly getting THAT many steps in. Maybe if I was a runner I could break 20k 😆
Lesley
I don’t drink coffee, but I stopped going to Starbucks for tea years ago. I like making it at home and I gt flavored black tea to use most of the time. It tastes better, but I do get the Starbucks brand for Awake tea from time to time.
Amanda @ Exploring Life & Things
I have been wearing my Fitbit Charge HR religiously for over a year and I still love it! I love the sleep tracker too and it’s seriously made me so much more aware of how much I move during the day. Ipsy is awesome too! I cancelled it after like a year and a half but I love the little bags they come in:)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The awareness is definitely my favourite part about it, and I’m looking forward to growing my little collection of makeup bags 😉
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
I like my Fitbit because it feels like I’m getting credit for being active. Don’t get me wrong, I love running, walking, dancing, you name it, but it’s still kinda nice to feel like that work is being recognized… even if it’s just by a tiny machine. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
SO true 😆 There’s a strange satisfaction with seeing each thing turn green, or getting the stars for completing something. It’s like being in kindergarten again 😆
Heather @ Polyglot Jot
I want to see the pancakes first!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Strong coffee is my specialty. It’s pretty much the only way I like to drink it, although I do add milk and sugar.
Your Ipsy box reminds me of my Birch boxes. I got them through June and I’m still working my way through all the great products. I even found a lipstick that I love.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Milk and sugar coffee doesn’t count because it’s totally not as strong then 😛 And I would have liked to try BB, but they stopped shipping to Canada 🙁
Montana Ross
The pancakes look awesome! I think I’d love to work from home but that’s probably because I don’t. If I did I’m sure it would get boring just like everything. Everything sounds better when you don’t actually know all the details right?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hehe pretty much! I think there’s good and bad to everything.
Angela @ happy fit mama
Did someone say pancakes? Yes please!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I love black coffee but Starbucks is just too strong for me as well. When I brew at home each day I add a pinch of salt to the grounds to cut the acidity – makes coffee so much smoother!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
!!! Okay that sounds both genius and delicious. Definitely giving it a try tomorrow!!
Catherine @ A Cup of Catherine
Ugh, I have yet to find a pair of Aviators that for my face, too! I like those, though!
And I think Starbucks coffee is pretty awful, unless you get something super sugary and then you’re just tasting sweet.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
These ones are slightly bigger and more square, which is why I think they fit me better. I can’t even tell you how many I’ve tried that looked SO bad on me, though 😕
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
I’m with you on Starbucks hot coffee being crazy strong. Have you tried the Blonde roast? It’s a less strong, lighter roast that is so, so good. Or try ordering a misto. It’s a cheaper version of a latte – half a cup of coffee topped with steamed milk!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve mostly been getting Americano’s, but I’ll give the misto a try! I was planning on trying to go back to cappuccinos anyways, but I have a feeling mistos are cheaper… and god knows I spend enough on coffee 😯
Bri
I went to Disneyland and Vegas after running a marathon and almost broke my FitBit with all the steps!!! I love my Charge HR, and find its so easy for exercise tracking too!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Almost broke it with steps?! Haha!! #goals
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
I feel ya on the working from home thing. If I’m not paying attention I’ll zone out for hours without getting up. Even if I’ve gotten in my workout that day, that can’t be good!
I vote pancakes. 🙂
Rachel @ athleticavocado
Starbucks coffee is wayyyy too strong! That’s why I don’t go there very often haha but I’m glad you found your love for hot coffee now! As for the recipes, I can’t choose because they both look amazing 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I swear they must have changed it or something though because I feel like I never used to have a problem with it until recently!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I’m pretty sure either recipe we would be happy with! Those muffins look huge!
Marina @ A Dancer's Live-It
Totally would LOVE to see the pancakes first!! I haven’t had the chance to make pancakes for breakfast in 3 weeks and I’m soooo looking forward to it! 🙂 Especially because I only make your pancake recipes 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Basically everyone wants pancakes, so pancakes it’ll be… Just in time for the weekend 😀
Susie @ Suzlyfe
Starbucks’ coffee is terrible. There espresso is great, but their coffee is BLECH. Can I say that my first thought when I saw your Ispy haul was that I remember getting those padded envelopes in ridiculous shiny colors when I was a little kid (we got them from The Container Store). I was obsessed with anything like that!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The envelope definitely made it a lot more fun. And I’ve actually been finding even their espresso to be a little much for me lately! That’s why I need the watered down iced coffee version 😆
Hollie
I like my Fitbit to monitor my heart rate. I think it’s a useful tool that way. You should post the pancakes first because you said they were the best ever and who doesn’t love pancakes?
michele @ paleorunningmomma
Adam loves coffee but really can’t stand how starbucks tastes. He’s obsessed with DD! I’m the opposite and I need dark roast all the way. And the struggle of not moving is SO REAL when you work from home. This week has been so bad since I’m busier than usual. Two days in a row of not leaving my house at all and basically just sitting.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I wish we had DD up here! Outside of the smaller local shops, it’s mostly just Bux and Tim Hortons… which also has pretty bad regular coffee 😕
Michelle
The muffins and the pancakes both look amazing! But I vote pancakes first please!
meredith @ cookie chrunicles
I can’t drink strong coffee either! and the pancakes first please.
Katie
I’m rekindling my love of hot coffee I think just by going back to visit my parents where there’s AC that actually keeps the house a comfy temperature and sitting under an afghan sipping hot coffee is for pleasure and because it’s comfortable, rather than the thought of ANYTHING warm making me melt.
