Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Can someone please explain the Pokemon Go thing to me? We don’t get the app in Canada, and while there are ways to get around that, I’m honestly not sure how I feel about the game. On the one hand, I think it’s a pretty innovative way to get people out of their houses and walking more, but on the other hand, I’ve heard some pretty weird stories… like the one about the girl who came across a dead body while trying to catch a specific Pokemon. I mean, I get that it could happen while you’re just out taking a stroll and that there was probably someone looking for that person, but still… could you imagine? 😳 Either way, I think I’ll avoid it… if for no other reason than because I could see myself becoming obsessed with catching as many as possible, and ain’t no one got time for that shit…
2. … while I sit here wasting time playing Google Feud 😂 Have you guys heard of it? It’s a free online game (no download necessary) that has the same basic premise as Family Feud, but what you’re trying to do is guess what the most popular Google queries are based on 4 different categories. You get 3 guesses per round to get as many right out of 10 as you can, and you get points based on how popular your guess was. You guys… some of the things people search are just plain weird…
3. So… nail update from last week. I decided to leave them be just to show you guys how well that new Essie gel polish wears, and here they are after 7 full days…
7.full.DAYS. They’re looking a little tired and you can see a lot of growth at the base of my nails, but not bad overall. And no chips! I’m tempted to leave them on and see if they hold up for the full 14 days like Essie claims, but then I also really want to change the colour and possibly go with something darker (my eyeballs are loving Hang Up The Heels). Whatcha think? Leave them and report in next week? Or is it okay if I change them? 😜
4. Also! Another VIQ (very important question). I’ve been trying to tweak my posting schedule and I want to know what you guys would rather see. Right now my weekly schedule involves 2 recipes, ToL, and Link Love that are kind of set in stone, with Wednesday being a day that rotates between WIAW, a Currently post, and -possibly- a monthly favourites post.
Now… the VIQ is, do you guys even care to see a favourites post or would you just rather have an extra WIAW in there? Because right now, assuming 4 Wednesdays a month, I’ve got it planned out to do WIAW-Currently-WIAW-Favourites, but that could easily change to WIAW-Currently-WIAW-WIAW if you’d prefer to see that. And maybe I could just mention favourites in ToLs whenever they come up. Let me know!
5. Like right now I’m really loving this buttery flavoured coconut oil from Nutiva (#notsponsored). It straight up, legit tastes like butter, an it’s great in vegan baking and even better on popcorn. Fun thing to play around with if you’re eating dairy-free.
6. Also… Costco has almond flour for WAY cheaper than I’ve seen it anywhere else. A 1.36 kg (3 lb) bag cost me $17, which is insanity considering I was buying 1/3 of that for the same price. The brand isssss…. Sunblest, in case you want to keep an eye out. And I should probably mention that this was in Canadian Costco, so I’m not 100% sure if they have it in the States. Sorry!
7. Switching gears to something I haven’t been loving so much… coffee. I know. It sounds crazy to me too, but I’ve only been able to get through about 1/2 of a grande before I want nothing more to do with it. I’m hoping it’s just a phase.
8. Alright, friendly faces, that’s it for me today. I’ll see you on Saturday with a new recipe. Possibly cookies. Or muffins. Or a smoothie bowl. I’m not 100% decided just yet, so feel free to leave a suggestion and sway me one way or another. Bye!
Let’s chat!

Google Feud sounds like so much fun! I thin I would rather see a favorites than a WIAW because I like the variety. But do whatever you’re more interested in <3
Karen Bayne
Google feud is new to me, but it sound entertaining really!!
I am dying at all the people posting about Pokemon…I mean getting people walking is a good thing, but not with your head buried in your phone…craziness.
Sarah @pickyrunner
I cannot get into the pokemon fad which is not a bad thing if you ask me. I keep almost getting run over on the street because people are buried in their phones. My coworkers and I walk towards the subway together after work and they play the game the entire mile walk back. It’s insane! I just don’t see the appeal, but maybe that’s because i haven’t downloaded it. I’ll save my data.
I love your WIAW posts personally!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I could see myself getting really into it because I like collecting things. Then again, I’e never been able to get into Pokemon in general so I dunno.
Laura
Ooh, cookies! <3 I'm not sure how I feel about favourites posts. I sort of like them, but for most of the blogs I read they're rarely relevant to me because I'm in a different country. Still interesting to see what's what in other places, but frustrating when I have 'I want' moments and can't have!
I went off coffee big time about a year ago. I think it was because mostly what I had access to in work was instant, and not good instant, and it started to make me feel so sick. I have a coffee machine at home but I rarely use it. When I do have coffee now (at my parents' house, or filter coffee when I'm out) I really enjoy it because it's a bit of a rarity. Never thought I'd go from coffee fiend to this, but I think I'm ok with it.
If I click the Google Feud link, will I lose the rest of my day/week? I suspect I might but I'm so tempted!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Aww yeah that always kind of sucks with favourites posts, and I feel that way as well sometimes since I’m in Canada and we don’t see a lot of the things that they get down in the States.
Jessie @ Just Jessie
Google Feud?! I’ve never even heard of it! And this Pokeman stuff is crazy to me. Not into it at all!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I don’t get the Pokemon Go thing, but I figure like Angry Birds and Words with Friends it will pass in time.
I need to try that nail polish! Essie makes the best colors but I stopped painting my nails after how often they chipped even with top coat.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That was my issue with nail polish as well, which is probably why I stopped painting mine anything but clear for almost a year. This stuff is magic though.
Jen Rawson, RD (@PrettyLilGrub)
I can’t say I understand the Pokemon craze. I’m really not a game person at all. I dont have a single game on my phone. But bring out an old fashioned board game and I’m all in.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve always been a pretty big gamer, but for some reason, Pokemon was one franchise I never really got into. And YES to old school board games. Seriously so much fun.
Amanda - RunToTheFinish
I totally don’t get the pokemon thing…I’m old…or I”m just busy with the rest of my life. Google is hilarious on normal autofill, gotta check this out I could use a seriously laugh!!
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass
I do not get Pokemon Go at all, I mean, it has been explained to me, so I understand the concept, but I don’t understand the allure…Google Feud on the other hand!? Off to play, wonder if I can play at work?
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Oh no, Google Feud sounds like my new addiction! I’m not against trying Pokemon Go, though I have zero knowledge of Pokemon, and I’m pretty interested to see how it changes video games/game apps in the future. I can see a lot more augmented reality, super social game cropping up!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m pretty clueless about Pokemon as well. I’m a big gamer, but for some reason Pokemon was one that I never got into. It’s definitely innovative, though! What I really want to see is more virtual reality stuff 😀
Rachael @ Catch me if you can
i dont get pokemon go AT ALL i never liked it growing up but i agree its a good way to get people up and moving…i havent heard the dead body story and thats kinda terrifying! i like your favorites posts, its one of the ways i find new things to try 😀
Dana
Pokemon Go is great. I don’t have it on my phone, but my husband has been having fun with it. We went to the park by our house and there were dozens of people out playing it. Dads with their kids, groups of teenagers, and adults like us. I know there are lots of crazy stories surfacing, but that is a small number compared with the thousands of people safely playing it. It’s only an issue if you lack a certain level of common sense.
Also, I generally do not like WIAW posts much anymore, but you do a really good job with them to keep them interesting. Maybe monthly favorites could be every other month or just fit that content into TOL.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
“It’s only an issue if you lack a certain level of common sense. ” <-- I seriously love that. And I can see how it'd be a good way for people to get active and get social. Definitely something to connect over.
AmberLynn
What is the organic buttery flavor made of?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I had to look it up on the Nutiva site, but -“Our vegan “buttery flavor” is made from pure certified organic non -GMO plants including sunflower, coconut and mint.”
Emily Swanson
The craze about Pokemon go is crazy. O_O I don’t really play video games, so I guess you could say I don’t quite understand it. That coconut oil sounds amazing. Does it have any coconut(y) taste or does it just taste like butter?
Oh, and a cookie recipe sounds really good or a smoothie cause you don’t have to bake it!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I love video games and I’ve been a gamer for as long as I can remember, but I never got into Pokemon for some reason. And the coconut oil doesn’t taste coconutty at all – it’s super buttery!
Sophie
I have been following your blog for three years and I love it. The recipes are great and I love favorites post. You make me try new things with your favorite post. My daughter bought and loves the new Essie nail polish. But my most favorite post is “Thinking Out Loud”.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thank you so much for taking the time to say hi, Sophie! And that’s so awesome that your daughter loves the polish. More people seem interested in favourites right now (and I prefer writing them as well), so I think those will be staying!
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
I’m so glad/ super mad you told me about Google Fued – I’d never heard of it! Family feud is one of my favorite shows (you know, because I’m an old lady 😉 When I was in college my friend had a program on his computer to play it and we would play all. the. time.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha! You’re welcome 😛 It’s kind of hard, eh?!
Kate
I’ve played Pokemon Go with my husband a little bit and it was really fun! I didn’t download it though because I’m obsessed with enough at the moment… Lol!
Kat
I had a feeling that Pokemon Go would be making a few thinking out loud posts. My little sister and husband are currently obsessed with it, but I don’t mind as much since its good bonding for them 🙂 It DOES get out of hand though when my husband starts walking into the orchards across the street from our house though…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hahaha! Omg we don’t have it here so I don’t see that stuff, but I’d seriously love to just see people meandering around in random places swiping at their phones. Sounds hilarious.
Alyssa
I really don’t get this pokemon thing haha. Didn’t even bother downloading the app, but everyone is talking about it! That coconut oil sounds so good. I’ve been loving drizzle coconut oil some of my food as of late. 🙂
lesley
I wish someone would explain this Pokémon to me too. I was never into Pokémon, or Nintendo, so I still don’t get it. My friends are either loving it, or we don’t care. At least I’m not the only one in my circle who isn’t playing it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I love video games, but I never got into Pokemon… and I have no idea why. Just another one of those popular things like Harry Potter that I never picked up.
Jessica Kuepfer
I actually love the idea of Pokemon Go. I think it is a great way to get people moving outside who traditionally would not.
Also – I hear you on the coffee thing. I normally drink 2-3 a day and I struggle to drink half right now. And I am a girl who can’t wait to go to sleep so she can wake up and drink coffee…Maybe it’s the heat?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It definitely might be the heat. I’ve found that iced is way easier for me than hot. Or maybe I just need to start adding more milk.
Michelle @ LivelyChicken
Never heard of Google Feud but it sounds so much fun (and addicting!).
I really enjoy your Favorites posts, so my vote is that you keep writing them!!
[email protected] a Dash of Cinnamon
I’m not quite sure I understand pokemon go either, but Ive also heard some wierd stories. I think I’ll stay away from it too. I don’t have time for it either haha. Keep the nails though! I want to see if they can make it!
Jen @ SavedbytheKale
I love your Favorites posts! <3
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
I totally agree about Pokemon– I will often stay away from stuff like that because if I get addicted to something like that… it’s all over! And I’d like to do other things in my life. 🙂 Although my Brother spent a good amount of time yesterday convincing me it’s a good idea.
Keep the nails to see how long they last for us. 🙂
lindsey @livinglovingrunner
I do not understand the Pokemon Go craze either…don’t plan on testing the waters! I was able to find almond flour for $4.99 lb at the local grocer market – it is one of those self-serve areas and I could just buy however much I needed. I then noticed pre-packaged bags from a bigger known name for $8+ lb…I am okay with my $4.99 bag, thanks!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ohhhh that’s lucky! I have to be careful with buying in bulk since I have really bad peanut allergies and there’s a really high chance of contamination. If I could, I totally would though!
Rachel
I don’t get Pokemon go! People are complaining about sore legs on Twitter but why?? What is it? Lol
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
From my understanding, it’s an app where you have to walk around to a bunch of different locations to collect Pokemon. It’s kind of like geocaching and operates on GPS. Sounds like a fun concept, but there’ve been a lot of not-so-fun consequences too 😕
Michelle
I don’t understand Pokemon Go either! I see people playing it all over the city and I can’t help but feel like they MUST have something better to do?? Right?
https://thedogtribe.com/2016/07/14/dirty-thirty-workout/
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha maybe? I know how addicting it can be to want to collect things, so I’m sure that plays a big part too.
Marina @ A Dancer's Live-It
I really hate this whole Pokemon thing, it’s so weird!! I would love to see a “favorites” post in there, especially if it’s on the last Wednesday of each month, Perfect day to round stuff up from the past 4 weeks! 🙂 Props to you for the whole coffee thing too, I LOVE my coffee!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
Google feud looks hysterical, I need to do it. I say go cookies for saturday, that sounds like good comfort food to me right now, plus it’s been a while since I’ve just made cookies with no bells and whistles 🙂 Oh and I need to try that coconut oil.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Cookies are winning so far, but I might possibly have to tweak them a little bit to make them more summery.
Courtney
Oh my goodness, I could see Google Feud becoming quite dangerous for me– I’d get sucked right in!
Is that nail polish made of *miracles*?! 😉
Hollie
Pokemon Go is interesting. I’m happy for those who are more active because of it, however, there have been so many different consequences as well. Car accidents, people getting lured and stabbed…I don’t think think the pros outweigh the cons.
Miss Polkadot
Google Feud sounds dangerous meaning: I’ll avoid even clicking on the link here at all costs. Pokemon Go? Well, I’m not sure it’s available over here but I’ve heard some not so enticing stories of criminals luring players into dark lonely places so … consider me not interested.
Oh and unrelated but I’ve been unable to comment on your posts [at least when including my blog address] for a few weeks now. It’s the case on ~80 % of the Blogs I’ve been commenting on forever so maybe an Askimet issue but could you possibly check your spam Folder? Hope it’s not asking for too much.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I know Akismet just recently had an update, so that might be it. I just checked spam and couldn’t find you, so they might just not have been going through. I’ll keep an eye out though!
Chocolaterunsjudy
Cookies, please. And favorites. And I’d love to see how Essie holds up to 14 days, but it’s your fingernails, after all. Right now I have no time to do my nails.
Or get my hair cut, or get a massage, or go to the chiropractor, or swim — all things I really need to do!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I really need a haircut too. Eep!
meredith @ cookie chrunicles
I am sure it’s just a phase with the coffee! you will come back to it, maybe in the winter.
Linda @ the fitty
Coffee stains teeth anyway! I’m trying to get more into tea.
Susie @ Suzlyfe
Omg Google feud needs to happen. I feel like a great number of our blogger types would be awesome at it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Some of them are actually pretty tricky! Apparently I have no idea what people are looking for 😆
Karen & Fit in France
I don’t get the Pokemon thing either… maybe the craze hasn’t yet hit France full force ???
And in answer to your questions…I prefer more WIAW posts. And for Saturday ? Muffins or cookies !
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think it’s only out in America, Australia, and New Zealand for now, which is I guess why neither of us are being it full force. I’m wondering if they’ll expand it?
