Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Is anyone else having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit this year? I know we’re still a good 3 weeks away, and that there’s lots of time left for the holly-jolly to kick in, but I feel like it usually hits me by now… and this year? Not so much. Heck, I haven’t even busted out my tree or the majority of my decorations yet ? Instead, I’ve been laxly putting up one thing here, another things there… which means that I should have everything done by Christmas Eve ?
2. I have, however, been keeping up with my Advent calendar from David’s Tea, and despite only being a few days in, I can already tell you that I love it so much more than the simple chocolate ones that I used to get. Why? Because the calendar itself is designed super well and feels really nice with all the sturdy boxes and little individual tea tins…
… But more importantly, because the tea is delicious, and I like that I can enjoy it for so much longer instead of it being over in one bite. It’s such a nice way to wind down at night.
3. Update on the missing Life Planner package that I mentioned last week! I got in contact with Erin Condren, and they [promptly] got back to me saying that FedEx apparently misplaced my package in one of their shipping facilities, and that they’ll update me when they find it. That was last Friday and I still haven’t heard anything new ? I’m really hoping it shows up [in my hands] soon, because I would love to do a review for you guys before the end of the year… especially since there are a few awesome changes in next year’s edition that are worth mentioning. In the meantime, you can check out my 2015 review here…
4. … while I stock up on fun planner decorating supplies. It seriously is an obsession, you guys; and I swear that getting creative and making my planner look all nice makes it easier to stay organized and get things done. Plus it’s just plain relaxing and enjoyable.
Anywho, I had a little bit of time to kill between appointments the other day, so I stopped by Michael’s to see what kind of new things they had in stock, and fell in love with a few of the things I found there. First up are these sticker sheets from The Happy Planner, which just so happen to fit perfectly in the Erin Condren planner as well…
To Do Stickers || Happy Sticky Notes || Get It Done Quote Stickers
And I also snagged some scrapbook paper (60% off, yo!) which has some adorable patterns to cut and paste. Spoons is getting crafty…
5. Unfortunately, I haven’t really had the same kind of luck when it comes to finding a new desk ? I’m currently in the process of setting up a new workspace at home, and I’m looking for a desk to go in this little window nook here…
Nothing too bulky so that it doesn’t cover up too much of my window, but something that feels sturdy enough to sit and work at… #highmaintenance. It’s been surprisingly difficult, and I was going to just default to a simple glass top from IKEA, but the dimensions are all wrong. The struggle is real, my friends.
6. In other news, I’ve discovered a foolproof way to tell if your avocado is ripe without cutting into it — drop it on the floor! If it stays in tact and maybe even bounces back a little bit, you should probably give it a few more days. But if it bursts open and splatters all over? You’ve got yourself a winner!***
(*** I “discovered” this on accident, and do not actually recommend trying it at home ?)
7. And because I’ve rambled long enough, I’m going to end things on lucky number 7. I hope you’re having a fantastijazzical day, and I’ll see you on Saturday with some tasty food!
No questionsβ¦ just tell me whatever comes to your mind! π

Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me
LOL Iβm dying about your avocado tip. I had to show my friends because it was cracking me up too much!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π And the best part is that the first thing that came to my mind when it hit the floor wasn’t to clean it up, but to take a picture for blogging purposes π
Rachael @ Catch Me if You Can
that advent calendar from David’s tea is so cute!!!!! I love them, so much cheaper than Teavana and really delicious teas. Your planner is adorable, I hope you get it soon I cant wait to read your review on it!
Brandi @ Java & Sole
I have already asked for an EC planner for Christmas – but I’m thinking I better order it soon ir it won’t be here before the middle of the year! π Hoping you locate yours soon! And the avocado “trick” is priceless. I’m guessing my kids would love to help me test it out! Happy TOLT π
Katerina
Well now I know how I am going to open my Avocado’s from now on haha! I haven’t even started Christmas shopping yet..it’s awful! Especially since I have no idea what everyone wants – people these days are so hard to shop for, cough cough MOMS!
XO

I actually like your empty window space…there’s something refreshing and freeing about a big spot in front of a window that invites you to admire it, or where you can just stand or lie down there. I’m sure you need a desk, but I would definitely savor that empty space for the time being!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually love the empty space as well, but I really like the idea of being able to work by the window and look outside. It’s been empty for 4 years, so I think I’m due for a little remodel π
Jessie @ Just Jessie
I got an Erin Condren planner last year and I just never really got into it. I LOVE planners, but I don’t know that I want to spend that much again when I barely used it. π I’m with you on the Christmas stuff, though! I put a bunch of stuff up in my apartment, but I’m still not feeling it. Probably because it’s December and it’s supposed to be in the 40s/50s next week here in Wisconsin. What is that?!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?!?! We have the same issue here! Normally we’re buried in snow, and this year it’s not even that cold!
Kat
Ive been slow on the holiday decor thing too. I just pulled a wreath out last night, but my hubby promised me that he’d help me this weekend to get the rest out. The only issue is, with two kiddos living with me right now, decorating really isn’t a good idea!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Haha I’m so ready to be in the holiday spirit… but first I have to finish finals. At this time next week, I’ll be free! And I love those stickers – maybe they should be my stocking stuffers π
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian
I hope you get your new Erin Condren soon! I know how hard it can be to wait for those packages to arrive (so much anticipation!) and with the added delay, you must be really frustrated.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
They actually finally got back to me and said they’ll be sending me a new one because the old one got lost. Womp, womp.
Catherine @ foodiecology
I’m just getting over being sick, so I’m hoping to get into the holiday spirit soon!
I hope they find your package! Also, that’s a good “tip” to remember regarding avocados, haha. π
Alyssa @ renaissancerunnergirl
I love the stickers! They’re so handy for a fun reminder π
Emiyl
Actually, we’re probably more in the holiday mood than last year. Last year we got back from a vacation about 2 or 3 days before Christmas, so our decorating and such was super quick. I was reminded that it doesn’t matter whether or not you have decorations. We can still celebrate the coming of Jesus at any time without any of the extra things. <3
Mar @ Mar on the Run
Love the wreath and holder! I have a small home office area and actually had luck finding a sturdy desk from Target!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Aww and here we lost our Targets in the late spring π
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
Ugh avocado mess would be the worst to clean up! I love that tea advent calendar, I’ll have to look for that next year. Although I’d probably still need the chocolate one too because I really can’t turn down the opportunity to have a chocolate everyday.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Amen to that! I just enjoy mine with chocolate on the side π
Dietitian Jess
I’m skipping the holiday season this year since my dad passed away a few months ago, it’s just too hard to celebrate without him. So no decorations or gifts for me. I’m jealous of your Davids tea advent calendar- they look awesome in the stores- youll have to let us know what your favorite flavors were when youre done!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m sorry about your dad, Jess. That would completely drain me of any and all holiday-ness as well. Sending lots of good thoughts your way <3
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
Oh man, so jealous of all your planner accesories!I really need a new one, but I’ve been putting it off ahha
Heather@hungryforbalance
That advent tea calendar does sound really nice! I’m sorry about the problems with the planner and Fed Ex. That really sucks!
Gretchen | Gretchruns
That stinks about the planner! Especially considering how expensive they are. You would think they would hand deliver it to your door haha!! I love the stickers you got..I never thought to look at Michaels! There’s lots of shops on Etsy that sell cute stickers but I like this idea better π
Juli @1000lovelthings
Yes, yes, yes!
I feel no Christmas spirit at all BUT I love my advent calendar full of Starbucks cups. Waaaaay better than any chocolate one.
Also I adore these stickers. I spend way too much time with making my planner colorful and pretty. And it increases my motivation to tackle my to-do lists and appointments when they are nice and pretty.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?!?! It’s so much easier to stay on top of things when you have a planner that you like to work in and look at. Plus the whole planning/decorating process is pretty relaxing in and of itself…
Emily @ My Healthyish Life
I don’t think I’ll get into the FULL holiday spirit until I finish school in two weeks. Once finals are over ALL of my attention will be on the holidays.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Five second rule.
Come here, we are all about the Christmas spirit and this weekend is Light Up Lakewood, where they close off the main street and have all sorts of holiday festive things going on, along with the official tree lighting. I usually run into Buddy the Elf every year and all the stores have fantastic deals.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
At this rate, I’m seriously going to have to come visit like… every 2 weeks.
mylittletablespoon
I used to work at a scrapbooking store and let me tell you it was dangerous!! All the beautiful paper and fun stickers are just impossible to resist – even when you don’t have a plan for them! But using them in your planner – which I so hope comes to you soon – will be so fun. And you are right – also relaxing!
Ps. I was having trouble adding in my link, hopefully you can find it
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m not sure why that happens to some people, but I try to go through regularly and check if anyone got stuck. No worries — found you π
Susie @ SuzLyfe
I agree-screw the whole, pull off the stem and check if it is green or gently squeeze and see if the avocado yields to pressure;chucking it into the floor seems like way more fun. I too am struggling a bit with the holiday spirit this year. Thus my bucket list to try to get involved with Chicago’s December festivities.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That sounds like a really good idea. I’m thinking I might try to up the volunteer work. Doing things for others always feels good.
Hollie
I feel like if you purchase something and the shipping company misplaces it, they should send you a new one.
I haven’t been in the Holiday mood lately either. It’s been so warm lately so I feel like that is why.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think that might be part of the reason why for me as well. We usually have heaps of snow around this time, but this year it’s not even really that cold yet…
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More
That’s a bummer about the planner!! π I bought one for next year (first paper planner in several years) and have been debating getting some stickers for it…it’s probably bad that Michael’s is basically across the street from my apartment complex. π
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
My worst kitchen drop was a few weeks ago when I dropped a bunch of yogurts on the floor. Serious splatter everywhere! Such a mess to clean up.
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
I really need a trip to michaels sometime soon but this whole sick thing has gotten in the way :/ as for the avocado, that’s a mess, but at least it wasn’t a carton of eggs! That was my worst “drop” in the kitchen!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh man, I’ve only ever dropped a single egg and that was bad enough — I imagine that a whole carton would be a tad bit worse π
Courtney
I’m glad I’m not the only one not quite feeling the Christmas spirit! It doesn’t feel like Christmas to me yet, somehow…
Hopefully it’ll kick in soon!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy
Not getting your planner can make you feel bah humbug. Hope they sort it out soon.
I buy cute stickers & then never use them!
That looks like a great space to work at!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I started to get in the holiday spirit last weekend when we decorated, but since then it hasn’t felt like the holidays. Not to mention I haven’t started shopping at all, even though every day I say I am going start so Im not stuck doing it at the last minute!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Story of my LIFE. That and writing Christmas cards — I keep putting it off!
meredith @ Cookie ChRUNicle
Don’t look at me about being in the holiday mood – Hanukahh starts this weekend, I am so not ready!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You still feel like we’re in the beginning of October too? Mmm hmm.
Sarah
Haha I love your tactic of dropping avocados on the floor! Hey, if they’re sturdy, I respect that! I need to read your 2015 review because I’m asking for a life planner for Christmas! π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Such a great thing to ask for! You’re going to love it!
Brynn
That’s extremely sad news about your planner. Maybe that’s why you’re not in the holiday spirit – ha!
