Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve been able to do a properly random ToL post that wasn’t centred around travelling, meaning there’s a lot random life stuff to catch up on. Heck, I meant to tell you guys two weeks ago that I had to go out and buy a new power adaptor for my Macbook because my old one finally bit the dust. Remember this beauty?
Despite my epic duct taping skills, it still got to a point where it just wouldn’t charge anymore. I am now $105 poorer and 1 working power adaptor richer. Ouch.
2. Speaking of power adaptors, I’m just a little paranoid about carrying this one around with me too much, meaning that my laptop battery life now dictates my office hours. Finished or not, it’s time to go home…
3. And in other technology-related news, this happened…
Between travelling and using my personal hotspot while hanging out at my parents’ wifi-less home on a few occasions, I managed to max out the data limit on my phone, and they cut me off as a result of it. That meant no browsing social media while I was out and about, no compulsive e-mail checking, and no texting friends [since I do most of it through iMessage] π₯ Guys… I know they say disconnecting is great and all, but… it kind of really sucks… especially on days where I was out and didn’t have access to a wifi zone for 6+ hours. Thankfully my new billing month started and I have my data back, because my phone was basically dead weight for about a week and a half there.
4. Speaking of the phone, did you guys see the new emojis that came with the latest iOS update?!?! There’s over 150 of them, including the cheese one that everyone was obsessing over, a unicorn (my fave!), and even the middle finger π Definitely an update worth getting.

5. And guess who finally jumped on the Snapchat bandwagon?!? Mmm hmm. I probably should have done it a lot sooner considering someone took the social media handle I use for all my other accounts, but better late than never, right? I feel like Snapchat is a great way to share some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that doesn’t make it on the blog or Instagram, so follow me at runningspoons if you’d like to see more random real life happenings.
6. You’d probably see me snapping about my newest addiction…
Naked juices. I know they (whoever “they” are) say that you’re supposed to avoid juices and eat whole foods instead, but sometimes nothing hits the spot like a cold and refreshing juice. And if it hits the spot then it satisfies, and if it satisfies then it means you’re not eating 3x the amount of something else and still feeling munchie. I see this all the time with people trying to stick to 100% clean eating… They won’t let themselves have the cookie they want, and end up eating twice as much in crackers or rice cakes instead. But that’s a rant for a whole other post…
7. The post! Don’t you hate it when this happens?
You miss the UPS or FedEx guy and then get a ten hour time window for when he’ll be coming back. Welcome to being a prisoner in your own home, because you can’t even run to the grocery store across the street to pick up milk in the off chance that that 5 minute window is exactly when he chooses to show up. Luckily mine came around 11am…
8. … and he came bearing gifts!
As an ambassador for Love Grown Foods, I’m super lucky to be able to try out their limited edition holiday products, and these Bats & Boos are just too.freaking.CUTE. You can find them in select stores, so keep an eye open and definitely pick up a box (or 5).
9. On that note… it’s Halloween this weekend! And that came out sounding way more enthusiastic than I actually feel. It’s been a good handful of years since I’ve really paid much attention to Halloween, and I don’t have any plans this year other than keeping up the annual tradition of watching The Nightmare Before Christmas and subjecting myself to the potential horrors of these Bean Boozled jelly beans. I’ll let you know how things go next week. Maybe I’ll even Snapchat it π
10. And before I say bye and tell you to have an awesome day, take a second to read this…

Those BeanBoozled jellybeans are one of my favorite office games. Whenever people come in, I offer them a few jelly beans and sit back in anxious anticipation waiting for their disgusted reaction.
Excited to follow you on Snapchat! It’s so much fun. I guess…
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ohhhh you’re cruel! I’m having a hard time convincing people to play the game with me. They see “vomit” and “rotten egg” and it’s all over. And who are you on Snapchat? I’m still a nooblet with this thing…
Danielle @ Finding Fit
Just added you on Snapchat! π
That FedEx thing drives me crazy!! I don’t have time to wait around ALL day for my package or drive across the city to pick it up if I miss it again. I prefer the Canada Post method of one delivery attempt and the UPS guy here is super nice and just leaves most of my junk on my step anyway (which is fine with me).
Shannon
I cannot find that cereal anywhere! it is so cute!
Shashi at RunninSrilankan
Aww – that last quote is too adorable – AND true!!!
Yay – glad you got a new cord – that old one made my palms sweaty just looking at it (good think I wasn’t handling it or I’d have been electrocuted by now!)
I am not on of those people that think fruit/veggies over juice, but Naked had some sort of lawsuit against it – it was some sort of class action suit about their controversial ingredients or something – people got paid big time!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
!! I had no idea about Naked! I’ll have to look into that and maybe find something different to drink. Eep!
Brandi @ Java & Sole
Love all the randomness today! π It’s why TOLT is my favorite. I still haven’t jumped on the snapchat bandwagon, but let’s talk about who on earth would take your handle … really?! All of the new emojis are a little overwhelming – I mean, I had just (almost) figured out where they ones I used the most often were grouped, then it all changed! Thankful for that “recently used” page, but I am still not seeing a spoon in the new updates …
Thanks for hosting my favorite link up!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The spoon! I KNOW! I actually scrolled through and checked that myself, and I was all sorts of bitter when it wasn’t there π‘
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian
Oh I can’t stand when I get one of those Fedex/UPS slips! Especially because I’m out of the house all day during the week at work, so I have to hope that they offer an option to sign the back and stick it to the door.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Mine did come with that option, but I have no idea how I’d make it work seeing as I live in a closed-off condo and there’s no onsite office or doorman π―
Mary
I used to keep a print out of that “hey you” thing in my wallet! loved it. really helped when I was feeling low…
Arlene
I love Snap Chat! It’s fun, just added you. Yay
Arlene
Sheena @ Paws and Pavement
I’m excited for Halloween! I am heading to Goodwill to “hopefully” pick up some finishing touches for my costume.
Suzy
That exceeding data limit happened to me three months in a row so I finally bit the bullet and phoned Telus to raise my data limit. GAH. I don’t care much about Halloween either. I kinda can’t wait until it’s over.
Sarah @pickyrunner
Love that last quote! I’m not big on snapchat anymore but I do enjoy watching peoples’ stories sometimes. It just eats away at my data so I only use it when I’m in a wifi zone. My boyfriend just got wifi after several months without it and there were definitely some angry texts from my parents when I was coming dangerously close to our data limit. I appreciate being unplugged- but I want it to be on my terms, not Verizon.
Kat
There’s a new unicorn emoji, so my life is pretty much set. All I’ve ever wanted right there! π
My hubby has been trying to get me on the snapchat train, so I think Im going to have to join. Lets be friends??
And my sissy played that nasty jelly belly game at her Halloween party. I looked out the window to check on them in the backyard and half of the kids were laughing while the other half were puking into a trashcan. Obviously they got the nasty ones!! π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π I’m actually kind of terrified of some of the flavours. And I’m currently trying to find someone brave enough to do the challenge with me, but no one seems to be willing π
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
Ugh waiting for Fed Ex is the worst. I usually just go pick it up because I don’t want to have to worry about being in the shower and missing the guy!
Emily
Thankful that we know that perfection doesn’t come in this life. <3 And you got snapchat? Yay!!! π I always need more stories to watch. π
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me
A power adaptor is $105?! Thatβs outrageous. Iβm glad you got it fixed, but that seems too expensive. Have a fantastic Thursday Amanda! Thank you, as always, for hosting your link up. π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s crazy expensive! And I hate how I basically have no other choice… No other cords would work for it, and it’s not like Apple is gonna be nice and fix it for me π‘
Lesley
My masking tape skills are being honed on my laptop charger because the cat likes to chew cords. Now when I’m not using my computer, I put everything under a pillow to try to thwart her attempts.
Sam @ See Sam Run
I’m only a little jealous about the new emojis. My android definitely hasn’t gotten those yet. I need that cheese one, seeing as I eat way too much of it.
Have a great Halloween! It sounds like you’ll have a relaxing night.
Jess
Those Bats & Boos cereal looks so cute and delicious! And technology issues are the worst kind of issues.
Kate B
oh my gosh the little face/masks you can use on snapchat make it 10000x more fun!
Emily @ My Healthyish Life
I’ve had fights on the phone with FedEx/UPS about delivering packages. I tell them to just leave it at my door because I have class all day. They just don’t get it. I love the new emojis! But still no avocado π
JRo
The instructions on the tag (at least in Spoons’ pic) say to “Sign below for Signature Release Option” so if you sign the tag and leave it on your door they will leave the package the following day. I do this all the time and never had a problem.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Aww! Have you tried signing the form they leave and leaving it on your door? Because apparently that gives them the okay to leave the package.
Bri
New emojis!! I haven’t updated my IOS yet but I think I need to now.
Happy Thursday!
Heather@hungryforbalance
Running out of data would be awful! Unplugging SHOULD be a good idea, but only on your terms, meaning you can RE plug when you want to!
Those jelly beans though! You are brave my friend!
Gretchen | Gretchruns
Sucks about the data limit…doesn’t that just make you wonder how people got by 20 years ago without cell phones? So crazy that now we rely on them so much and it’s tough to get through a few hours without the internet in our hand! I don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad thing…it’s just a thing π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yeah I have no idea. I didn’t get a cellphone until I was 18, and it was probably still a good handful of years until I had one with an internet connection. It wasn’t so bad back then when EVERYONE was basically disconnected, but it sucks now when you’re the only one.
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
I have Verizon set to send me texts when I reach 75% and 90% of my data limit. That sucks they just cut you off.
I JUST got a facebook page for my blog, so I’m clearly way behind the times on social media. I have Snapchat, but only so I can follow my friend in St. Thomas. I”ve never actually posted anything. Who knows, maybe in 6 years I’ll go ahead and join up lol.
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
The new emojis make me happy π
I haven’t tried snapchat yet… I probably need to get on that… there are soooo many to do!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?! All the social media is a little bit too much, but I actually like Snapchat just because of how unedited and random it is.
Dietitian Jess
Oh no about all the technology issues- If that came up on my phone I would probably freak! That cereal looks amazing- I’m definitely searching for it after work today!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
Technology is a blessing and a curse! I was disconnected for several days post surgery last week and I felt like I missed so much! Now I’m slowly climbing out of my pile of email.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Eeek that’s the worst. I think that’s actually why I have a hard time disconnecting completely for long periods of time. I hate knowing that I’ll have a PILE of work waiting for me when I get back.
Hollie
I updated my phone just so I could use the new emojis. I don’t think I’ll ever talk in “normal” English again ha ha. That stinks about the power cord btw…I feel like that has happened to you a couple of times!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m usually wary about the updates myself, but I jumped on this one without even hesitating π And this is actually the first power cord that I’ve had this happen with. I guess I was just taking it with me more than I was the others?
Marcia
Adorable emojis! Everybody’s raving about them. Now if I’d only update….
OMG Bats and Boos! So cute!
Susie @ SuzLyfe
Well I have a pc and randomly my charger has decided to completely stop working! absolutely no reason. And I have a blog conference this weekend. Gah. I’m sad because I don’t get the new emojis. Stuppid android. My life is for not.
Tiffany @ The Chi-Athlete
I’m sooooooooooooo afraid to jump on the Snapchat bandwagon! I think it’ll finally not be a thing when I get on it. Lol! π Thanks for the link-up, darling friend!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy
Since I don’t work, we do have to cut some corners. So we have cheap phones & a pretty limited plan, but the nice thing about it is you can adjust data — up or down — on the fly, as well as phone & text. Obviously we’re not power users.
All we do for Halloween these days is turn off all the lights.
meredith @ Cookie ChRUNicles
I am excited to have the new emojis now so when you send me unicorns I can see them lol
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
But that means I can’t send you secret middle fingers anymore π
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama
The middle finger emoji made me so giddy. But what’s up with no runner girl?!?!? Get with the time Apple!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I never realized that there wasn’t one! I mostly cared about the little snowboarder <3 But maybe they'll come out with one in the next update, considering they gave people the cheese and taco they were all complaining about.
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
2 phone chargers in my house look just like that right now – hanging by a thread! I agree that now that people just expect you to have constant internet and phone, going 6 hours is not cool. And my son would just love your theory on juice π
Miss Polkadot
There’s more I can relate to than I wish in this post – and by that I mean more unfortunate issues. Your broken cable would equate to my laptop not working properly anymore. It’s been wonky for months but the past few weeks things have gotten so bad I think we need to say goodbye for good. Only my bank account would rather we donβt …
And I’ve been getting the data limit notification more often the last few months, too. I can’t browse websites then but checking Instagram works a-okay – the pictures just won’t load ;).
Ona positive note while I have had my fair share of annoying post moments I waspleasantly surprised this week when a package I expected from US not only arrived within five days but I didn’t have to pick it up from customs.
Khushboo
Ugh don’t get me started with Apple’s wiring- such poor quality! The same thing happened to my charger and it was only a matter of time till I had to give in and buy a new one! Totally agree with you about juice- it may not have fibre but when it’s hot outside, nothing is more refreshing than a chilled glass (or bottle) of OJ! And heck YES about eating a small amount to satisfy a craving rather than ridiculous amounts of clean food. I’ve actually seen people refuse to have a biscuit but instead eat tablespoons worth of nut butter–> the logic is beyond me!
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
I so just don’t get The whole snap chat thing? I feel lIke am old lady admittin g that. But I love naked juice!!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m trying to wrap my head around it myself! I think I might end up liking it more than Instagram, though, just because of how random and unedited it is.
