Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. The problem with long weekends is that they come with the very real danger of making you forget what day of the week it is. Yesterday felt like a Tuesday, which made me think that today was Wednesday. Not the biggest problem to have, except for the fact that I almost forget that I had to get a ToL post up for today. Oops. Still managed to squeeze one out, though! Which means I’ve been doing this for 147 weeks without missing a single beat. In.sane.
2. Also insane? Home renovations. This one doesn’t really affect me directly (thank goodness), but my parents have been doing a little bit of work to their new place and I can’t say I envy them π―
3. You know what’s a great feeling, though? Thinking you finished your coffee before realizing that you still have one sip left — it’s almost like finding a forgotten 20 in an old pair of jeans. Almost. And is it weird that I actually love room temperature coffee? That needs to be an option at Starbucks… Yes, hi. I’d like a grande Pike, please. Room temperature.
4. And speaking of coffee-ish things, I tried out the new-to-me Vega protein powder in mocha and kind of fell in love. I can’t exactly remember where I picked this one up (I’m thinking Blend?), but I’m worried that it’s not a permanent flavour because I can’t find it on the Vega site and I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen it in stores π₯ I like the vanilla and chocolate flavours well enough, but… everything is better with coffee.
5. Everything is better with the right attitude, too…

6. Tell me this doesn’t scream fall…
That’s what I saw when I looked out the window this morning… And I know people are still talking about hot and humid weather in the 90’s, but it’s been cold and wet here for the last handful of days, making it hard to remember that it’s still technically summer. And you wonder why I’m busting out the pumpkin already…
7. Speaking of pumpkin… I’m going to try super hard not to bombard you guys with tonnes of pumpkin recipes this season, but you know how it is when you crack open a new can — you gotta commit to at least a handful of recipes just to use it up before it goes bad. I’ve had pumpkin start growing white fuzzies before — it’s not pretty.
8. And last but certainly not least… everyone’s favourite random facts!
- And here I was feeling all super proud that I managed to hit 2 minutes. Pft.
- I actually tried this on a mosquito bite once and it made it stop itching. Bananas are magic — I’m telling you.
- And people look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them that the heavier the music, the calmer I feel…
- I had to laugh at this one because the last time I was in Universal Studios, we didn’t get to see Jaws on the tour because — he was broken π
- Which is why you should look at -everything- that you come across in the health and fitness industry with a critical eye and not jump on the latest fads. Just sayin’.
9. That’s it for me today! Happy Thursday, friendly faces π
No questionsβ¦ just tell me whatever comes to your mind! π

I actually have never made a homemade pumpkin recipe (pumpkin spice does not count). Need to change that this fall!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Definitely! Pumpkin can add such an awesome flavour and texture to baked goods!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye
I am beyond ready for fall! California is currently going through a heat wave, though, so I might have some waitinβ to do π . And YES to all things pumpkin (as #basic that might sound). I already have a growing lists of recipes that I want to try out and canβt wait to see what you come up with!
Also, WINCING at that plank fact. That sounds like it could quite possibly be the worst thing ever.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The man who did it was 57 years old and an ex-marine. I know, right?!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
hahaha YES to the heavy music thing – it’s weirdly calming to have someone scream-singing at you.
Also, a 5 hour plank?! I could maybe get 2 minutes. On a good day. If I was especially motivated.
Rebecca Jo
if you find that Vega Mocha online, let us know! That sounds delish!!!
You are the 2nd person today I’ve heard that likes the Pike coffee from Starbucks
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
A reader actually left me this link just a few comments back — https://shopca.myvega.com/vega-one-nutritional-shake.html?simpleid=791
And Pike is probably my favourite blend from Bux. There was a seasonal Christmas one that I really like as well, but I can’t remember the name of it…
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
Man! I got to a 5 min plank and thought that was cool. That’s intense. Also, I like room temp coffee to. Basically all the cool kids do.
Brandi @ Java & Sole
I love your TOL posts – so happy you were able to “squeeze one out” today! The random facts you include are great. Making a note to hide in the bathroom with my next banana peel though π So excited for fall and your pumpkin recipes – bring it on! Maybe a banana-pumpkin combo in the works?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oooo! Now -there- is a good idea. I like the way you think π
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs
You scared me when you said you couldn’t find Mocha VegaOne online, but here it is!! https://shopca.myvega.com/vega-one-nutritional-shake.html?simpleid=791
I’ve also seen them at GNC π
It’s possible Mocha might be replacing Vanilla Chai as my favourite…..maybe.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You just became my favourite person of the day <3
Laura
I’ve seen Vega One Mocha flavor (the nutritional shake not sport) at Whole Foods in MassachusettsMassachusetts. Only in individual packets though if I recall correctly. Maybe it’s just taking longer to be put up on the site?? I don’t see that flavor going anywhere!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It does say it’s a Whole Foods exclusive on my little baggie… which I’m hoping isn’t the case because we don’t have Whole Foods up here!
Hayley @ Full of Life
Weird about banana peels! One more reason they are my favorite fruit π I’m jealous that it already feels like fall here because this weak it’s been so stinking hot. Still opened a can of pumpkin regardless.
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
A 5 hour plank? Who has time for that? Plus, wow, I can barely hold 2 minutes either.
I am in love with the Vega Mocha flavor, it’s amazing.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?! I’d seriously get crazy bored. And hungry. And probably have to go to the bathroom π Have you managed to find that mocha powder around here? I need to get my hands on more!
Sherri
I thought I was the ONLY one who loved my coffee at room temp. I honestly brew a cup and wait a while before I take a sip so that it is at room temp.
Kate B
Room temp coffee isn’t for me, but I DO always leave one or two sips to sit around. I usually down it like a shot of whisky. π
Keep the pumpkin recipes coming- I can score cans at Aldi for 89 cents!
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
I remember pulling out the tack strips from carpeting. Worst. Project. Ever.
I am so ready for fall and it doesn’t feel like it at all here! Fingers crossed it gets here soon!
Yeah, the fact about diets doesn’t surprise me in the least! It’s too bad more people don’t realize that!
Bri
I can’t wait for everything pumpkin! I’ve been meaning to try that mocha vega powder but can’t find it anywhere either. Happy almost Friday Amanda!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It says on my little package that it’s a Whole Foods exclusive. Maybe try there?
Trevor E
Everything IS better with coffee!!
Don’t worry, the mocha flav is an exclusive at Whole Foods for a little while longer then will be available elsewhere.
Send me an email at the one I provided here and I’ll send make sure you get some serious mocha love from Vega HQ!
Bri
Ohh what is this email address to send for Vega mocha love?? We don’t have a whole foods here on the island yet, sadly π
Alexa @ the mindful Maritimer
Keep the pumpkin recipes coming! It’s the best season for baking π I really need to get my hands on some Vega products.. I’ve only tried them once and it was a smoothie pack and I wasn’t too fond but the protein looks great!

I can totally relate to the renovations. My parents are also renovating their house (one room at a time) and they’re now on the living room. I’ve been helping out as much as possible and demolition was the most fun part so far. They always buy us dinner for helping, so it’s worth it, plus a good workout π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
And it’s especially nice when you know you get to go back to your own put-together home π I totally get it.
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Pumpkin mold is the saddest thing π Sometimes (often), if there’s extra in a can, I’ll just mix it with some almond milk, cinnamon and other spices, and almond butter and eat it like pudding. Gourmet? Nah. Tasty? Sure. π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve done something similar to that before and I have to agree that it tastes pretty awesome!
Lesley
That picture really does look like fall. We had fog this morning but it was nothing like a fall fog. It was a humid fog, bleck!
Renee
OH GOD home remodeling that photo just made me look twice like wait is that my house? My kitchen has been ripped apart since the summer as we slowly make our way through a remodel with wall removals and new everythings. It’s a mess, and also the reason my food and kitchen recipes have been low this summer I have no place to create and it’s bumming me out! I can’t wait for it to be done! I got my first pumpkin spice coffee today soooo welcome fall!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ack! The kitchen is one of the worst things to have to remodel, but it always feels SO good when it’s all done. My parents are going to be doing theirs at some point in the future as well, so I imagine that I’ll be bringing over dinner more often than not π
Mary Beth Jackson
I believe that bananas are magical! I have never rubbed one on a boo boo though- I may need to try that! I don’t mind coffee room temp either- it is all good! Thanks for being a fabulous hostess!
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
Our trees are starting to turn too :-(( It’s coming!!!
Looking forward to some pumpkin!!!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
I love that quote! I also love your fall pic. I can’t wait till it gets to that point. I saw a high of 77 in the forecast for next week and that’s the lowest it’s been in ages, so hopefully it’s starting to turn in my favor!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!
Heather @Fit n Cookies
That’s hilarious about the shark! I had no idea, lol, but I’ve only watched the movie a few times and that was many years ago. I hear ya on the pumpkin train. It’s a waste to open the can for just one recipe, so unless you double or triple it, you have to find other pumpkin things to make! It just goes bad too quickly if not.
Amanda - RunToTheFinish
I can’t Wait for fall to get here, still 85 degrees and 100% humidity at 6 am…iccccckyyy
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
Just the thought of rubbing a banana on myself makes me feel itchy – ack!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s apparently really great for your skin, though! I’ve come across a lot of DIY face masks that use bananas. The simplest one is just mashed banana with plain yogurt — supposed to work wonders!
Jen @ SavedbytheKale
A 5 hour and 15 minute plank! That is insane!! I love that quote and your view! Have a great Thursday Amanda!
Heather@hungryforbalance
Our house looked like that when we were ripping up the carpeting; it was not pretty.
What would you even do for 5 hours while holding a plank? I guess you could read…
I have never seen Jaws and I’m not that sad about it. π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That’s actually what they’re doing, too — ripping up the carpet and putting in hardwood. And I was thinking that myself about the plank! I’d seriously get bored. And hungry. And probably have to go to the bathroom.
Heather @ HeatherRunsFast.com
PLEASE bombard us with Pumpkin recipes!!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha! I’ll try π
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner
Seeing that construction brought back bad memories of when my first house flooded!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
The Vega mocha flavor is awesome! I know for a fact they make the flavor in the Sports Recovery Protein Powder but I am not sure about the Nutritional shake. You could always do the sports one if you can’t find the nutritional one!
Hollie
I agree about long weekends. This is the first “long weekend” I’ve had off in a very long time and to be honest I’m struggling with remembering what day it is. I feel like Thursday kind of snuck right up.
Chelsea
Ahhh fall trees!!! The one out our living room window is half red now. Where did August go?! So excited π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Red!? Jealous! We see a lot of yellow and orange, but very little red. And it’s my favourite!
Chelsea
We get tons of red!!! Sounds like you need to make a trip here… π
Erin@BeetsPerMinute
OMG with the renovations! My mother went through that while I was living with her for almost two years. Our kitchen moved to the dining room, the dining room moved to the living room, the living room moved to the front room! Nightmare! I also like room temp coffee — the last sip is an instant mood booster.
Excuse me while I go stick banana peels all over my body! π
Susie @ SuzLyfe
I’ve held a 7 minute plank before. I”m not really sure how, but I did…. There are some pretty ridiculous Guinness World Records. I saw one of the Today show for buzzing people’s heads and the most trampoline slam dunks in a minute.
Good to know about the banana. During marathon training we have a bunch of those!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Funny that you mention ridiculous Guinness records… I just came across one this morning that was for the most times you can kick yourself in the head in one minute. That’s just #winningatlife.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I love when I am at work and I think I finished my coffee already but then I find that there are a few more sips left!
A 5+ hour plank is just crazy! At that point do you just get bored and stop?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π That’s exactly what I was thinking! Or hungry. Or have to go to the bathroom π―
Kelli
I love room temperature coffee, too! I have to wait about 30 minutes to drink it!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
Never let pumpkin grow mold, I agree! I like the fact about music! Now that you mention it it seems to work that way for me too, very cool π
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy
Oh, the dogs would love me if I rubbed a banana peel on myself! Although I do have a huge zit at the moment that I’d like gone.
I like my tea warm. Not hot, not room temp, just warm. Even when it’s hit, like it was up until today. Although it was still 70 when I woke up, despite the promised 60s & put out jeans instead of shorts because of that promise.
Sadly I didn’t get time to bake the muffins yesterday & probably not today, either, but Friday . . .
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I like hot coffee even when it’s warm. Even on the hottest of days, I’ll still make hot coffee. The only times I drink it iced are when I’m in Vegas. And that’s a survival thing π
Alyssa@renaissancerunnergirl
I’m sweating it out in 95 degrees, I wish it was feeling more autumnal (if I can keep my endless summer going til October in terms of mentality !)
