Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Hi friendly faces! We’re doing something different for ToL today. You guys know I’m a sucker for a good survey, so I knew I had to ninja the “Questions Nobody Asks” tag when I saw Alison do it. The original was a little on the long side (43 questions!), so I picked a few random ones to keep with ToL style. I needed some questions to direct my thoughts today, because my brain feels like it’s running on autopilot. So here we go…
2. Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotels? No. This is actually one I can’t really understand because those suckers are horrible. Seriously. My hair ends up looking and feeling like something between a knotty rat’s nest and hay whenever I use them, which is okay in a pinch but not really a look I want to be sporting on a regular basis. I do take bathroom selfies in hotels, though… #fortheblog.
3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Oh geez… a lot of things. I remember wanting to be a vet before I found out they had to put down animals. Then a scientist (??). Then a race car driver. Then a makeup artist. Then a psychologist. Then a writer. And now I’m a blogger, health coach, and soon-to-be holistic nutritionist. Can’t say I saw it coming, but it turned out better than I could have imagined.
4. Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed? Closed! Omigosh, closed. My bed sits in such a way that I end up staring straight into my closet when I lay down… which is kind of creepy when it’s dark and you’re looking into a pitch black hole of nothingness just waiting for something to come flying out at you. The same thing goes for sleeping with any part of me hanging over the edge of the bed — just can’t do it. And yes, I’m all of 30 years old.
5. Do you still watch cartoons? I was going to say no since I don’t exactly sit on the couch in my PJ watching Saturday morning cartoons with a bowl of Fruit Loops in my lap, but then I remembered the fact that the last two movies I saw in theatres were [technically] cartoons. Pair that with my ever-growing Disney collection, which I still occasionally watch from time to time, and yeah… I guess I do. What can I say? Big kid at heart.
6. When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper? Uhm. Is it sad that I can’t even remember? I’m guessing it was probably something like 10+ years ago when I was still in high school and wrote letters to my best friend while I was bored in class. It kind of makes me sad to see those old school forms of communication fading away, but then I ask myself why I never take the time to do something like write a letter, and yeah… I can’t come up with a better answer than “it just takes too long.”
7. What is your song of the week? Angels Fall by Breaking Benjamin. I really liked these guys back in the day, so it was good to see them get back together after breaking up for a few years.
[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVl5MtdodLU&w=640&h=427″]
8. What was the best prank you ever pulled off? So this one time we poured a bag of flour into the air vents of a friend’s car so that, when he turned on his AC, all the flour shot out in his face and covered the entire interior. Needless to say, he was none too pleased with us for a couple of weeks after that, but at least we picked up the cleaning bill π
9. Do you always smile for pictures? Nope. I actually feel more comfortable not smiling for pictures, but I also don’t want to come across with permanent RBF so I’ll pop out a smile 83.5% of the time. Otherwise I end up looking a little something like this…
10. How do you relieve stress? Usually one of 4 things: going for a drive, playing video games, sweating it out, or blasting my favourite music and dancing around. As much as I’d love to be able to meditate or do something calm and quiet to relieve stress, I’ve found that I need something fast-paced that requires all of my attention so that I basically forget about whatever it is that I’m stressing over. It works wonders.
No questionsβ¦ just tell me whatever comes to your mind! π

I love number 9… I love when I don’t smile, especially if I am in a group pictures, where everybody does :)))
Sarah @pickyrunner
I feel like my hair ends up looking like straw when I use hotel shampoo, but even more so using the conditioner. I like my own shampoo/conditioner even though it can be a pain to pack it sometimes. And TOTALLY with you on closet doors. My closet and bathroom are connected and directly across from my bed. So creepy.
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
I used to love Breaking Benjamin too! They always bring back good memories for me. π
And I hear you about the hotel hair products. They’re rarely worth taking home!
Erin@BeetsPerMinute
I’m with you on the hotel shampoos and conditioners. Though, I did grow up with a father who always took things because he figured he had “paid” for them lol. Mini ketchup bottles, alcohol nibs, shampoos, conditioners, shower caps oh and my fave, long cotton buds from the doctor’s office. Needless to say, we had some interesting stuff in our cabinets while I was growing up!
The worst prank I ever did was dump driveway salt into my brother’s car after he had cleaned it. In my defense, he drove past me in a 2 degree snow storm, rolled down his window a crack and held his hands in front of the heater while asking, “what the hell are you doing walking, it’s freezing” and then proceeded to drive off. He deserved it, right? π
That was probably TMI. π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π That was pretty rotten of him — I probably would have done the same thing.
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
I always sleep with my door closed, I’m scared when it’s open and also realize it’s ridiculous but can’t help myself.
Also, as a side note, the sharing side bar you recently added blocks the text on your post making your blog really hard to read. Honestly whenever a blog has that bar I always click off of it because it’s so annoying. I love your blog so don’t want to do that but PLEASE remove it!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Really? Uh oh. I had no idea that could be an issue. Are you using a mobile browser? Or is it on your computer?
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
A few times I’ve gone places where they had actually good shampoo/conditioner/lotion and took it (once it was Crabtree and Evelyn, pretty baller.) but other than that, my hair is so specific since it’s long and very curly, that I don’t even bother. My dad used to bring me back them when he went away on a trip, though, so I do have some good memories about them ahha
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
I actually do take the shampoos/conditioners from hotels and put them in my guest room. That way there are always extras laying around! π I’m a big NO on cartoons, and a big YES on closet doors open. Happy Thursday, Amanda!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Putting them in the guest room isn’t a horrible idea. I like that!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
I always steal the pens! Lol.
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
I have to agree that sleeping with the closet door shut. I also can’t deal with anything being even a little messy and staring at it before I go to sleep. That would just make me anxious. Also, your best prank was awesome! I need to make a note of that one for the future! π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π Just be prepared to help cover the cleaning bill if you do, because that stuff literally goes everywhere and is a pain to clean up!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
I love writing letters and having pen pals! I just sent out a letter last week π And I find that most hotels have horrible shampoo/conditioner, but the nicer hotels actually aren’t terrible. Either way, I usually just bring my own.
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I take the shampoos and conditioners if they are good. One hotel I stayed at recently had makeup remover and amazing lotion so of course I stocked my purse with those.
Kaila @healthyhelperblog!
TOTALLY jealous of your disney collection! Awesome.
PS: I tried to link up but it said I didn’t have a backlink to your blog! I do!
Lesley
If Disney and Pixar count as cartoons, then I’m guilty 10x over. I have almost all available Pixar movies on DVD and I have quite a few Disney ones too. Not to mention the last movie I saw in the theater was Inside Out.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Love it! I’m the same way π And wasn’t Inside Out the cutest thing ever?!
Kate
You pull off the no-smile look, I just look mad! And hotel goodies always go home with me! My hair has low standards. π
Emily @ My Healthyishlife
I can fall asleep with lights on or off, doors opened or close and TV on or off. Basically, I’m a good sleeper π I love writing letters to friends when I’m bored in class. It looks like I’m taking notes so it works.
Katherine @ Sweet. Southern. Run.
If I try to have a serious face in a picture, it looks like I’m sad. I can’t pull off serious AT ALL. I always have a giant (sometimes cheesy) smile in pictures. My RBF game is strong too, I don’t want people to see that in pics! I’m also right there with you on sleeping with closet doors closed, it is a must for me!! I also have to fall asleep with the TV on, otherwise I think every little noise I hear is someone breaking into my house. Today is my Friday, I’m heading to Nashville tomorrow for a mini-vaca!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hope you’re having the best time on your vacation!
Bri
I also don’t like smiling in pictures, as I’d rather not force it if I’m not feeling it. Mostly I just avoid being in the pictures!
Happy almost Friday! π
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
I wanted to be a vet until I found out about putting animals down too. π Makes me sad.
I can’t take a serious picture if I wanted to. When I worked in news, they would ask me to take a serious picture to use when they had bad news and mine always looked terrible.
Pip {Cherries & Chisme}
Oh my gosh yes ALWAYS sleep with all doors closed. When I was little I had a really dark coloured wooden wardrobe in my room which used to absolutely terrify me. Urgh I can still remember it to this day *shudders*
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I take ALL the soaps and shampoos π
Totally agree…how could you sleep with ANY door open! AH!
And haha, driving STRESSES me out to the max!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy
Despite my love of animals, I never even thought about being a vet when I was little. I may have missed the boat, but besides putting animals down, there’s also dealing with non-caring owners, nasty animals – all sorts of things I wouldn’t want to do.
I did take an online vet assistant course just for my own knowledge.
Being a holistic nutritionist would be very cool!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I’m so with you on hotel shampoos! They are nasty and what if someone opened it already and used it or did something with it? They don’t all have the tape for first time opening. I always use my own for sure!
Miss Polkadot
Does ANYbody sleep with their closet doors open??? I can’t imagine that. That’s SO not going to happen for me anytime soon. Or ever.
#6: I feel you can count the Christmas card you sent me/cards you’ve been sending ever year here. Actually, I want to get back onto the letter-writing train -what’s it with all those ‘trains’ ;)?? – as a way to spend less time on my laptop. Plus – see my last post – it’s just a much more intimate and caring way to connect with others. Especially -because- it takes quite some time.
And #8? Wow, you’re mean :D.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I thought of your last post when I mentioned the letters π I definitely agree that it’s such a more intimate way to stay in touch with people, but the world seems to be moving away from intimacy and it’s just getting so much harder to hang on to that π
TiffLovesweatandbeers
The flour in the vents sounded so mean, at least until you said you had it cleaned. Then it sounded hilarious!
I’ve wondered if I have RBF. I don’t think so because too many strangers talk to me, which I sometimes hate. So I guess that makes me a B without BF?
Alyssa@renaissancerunnergirl
I totally still love many animated films, sleep with the doors closed, and eat ice cream at odd times of day. Kid at heart!
Heather@hungryforbalance
I have to sleep with all the doors in my room and to my room closed. It just freaks me out to sleep with ANY doors open! And I really have to force myself to smile for pictures, but I always think I look so fake.
Melanie
I love Breaking Benjamin too!! Their new album is really good. I’m going to see them next month at a local show and I can’t wait!! π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hope you have a blast! I’d love to see them live π
Susie @ SuzLyfe
I’ve been hitting the hotel shampoo jackpot of late–Paul Mitchell and other designer ones. I only take them if they are good. And if that is the case, you BETTER FREAKING BELIEVE IT
Hollie
I agree that my hair does not look good at all from using the hotel conditioner. I guess maybe men can get away with it but def not me.
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
I wish I could look decent, even with an RBF, without smiling in photos, but reality is that I just look angry and evil if I don’t smile, haha.
I’m so happy you did some of the questions, and thank you as always for this mighty fine linkup β€οΈ
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You have a gorgeous smile, though! π
Brynn
I always smile in pictures and find I have to force myself to keep a straight face.
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
Oh my goodness both david and I are the same – the wardrobe doors MUST be closed fully before bed… Don’t know why but it freaks me out if they are open! Haha!
And yeah I still watch cartoons. Not regularly but if they are on when I am searching for something to watch then yep I go for them. I don’t think Disneys count though – they are for any age!
Oh and I wanted to be a archeologist when I was young – a full blown Indiana Jones!!
Mary Beth Jackson
Fun answers! When I sleep I have to stretch and let my toes hang off the end! We save all the hotel stuff and donate it once a year
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
My husband used to HAVE to collect and keep every shampoo, conditioner, soap, whatever from a hotel and I’ve been baffled by this since the first time I witnessed it. I agree, they’re absolutely terrible but I guess men wouldn’t need them to be that great! He still occasionally does this and even still has many of them in the bathroom, for what, I’m not sure. Habit at this point.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’d probably be a lot less picky about them if I was a man, too. As it stands, I have too much hair that I’d rather not turn into a knotty mess π
Debbie
Thank you for the great link party.
It is great to get to know a little bit more about you.
Happy Thursday!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I usually do take shampoo and conditioner from hotels…but more importantly those little notepads and pens! And we sleep with our bedroom door open otherwise it gets too hot!
meredith@ Cookie ChRUNicles
I don’t know if it’s my luck or what but lots of the hotels I have stayed at have really good toiletries! I leave the bad stuff but have been known to take all of the bottles when it’s quality brands and great products. I get all excited about it too lol.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Really?! Because no matter how nice the hotel I stay at is, they always end up with bad shampoos. Unless my hair is just super finicky…
Liz S.
#2 – THANK YOU! Hotel shampoos and conditioners (no matter if the hotel is nice or not) are horrible. My hair too gets all knotty, haha.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The worst is when it’s a shampoo and conditioner in one. Probably better to just skip the washing at that point…
Nuclear Glitter
We all wanted to be vets π I almost made ‘vet hospital’ in my house haha
