Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Just in case you ever wondered what my hair looks like after hanging out under my toque (read: beanie) and helmet after a day of snowboarding… Voila!
I know, I know… you don’t have to tell me. Ridiculously, ridiculously good looking (name that movie!)
2. Actually, I probably should go in and get my hair professionally tamed soon. I’m long overdue for a trim, and my bangs are getting a teensy bit long…
3. Then again, I’ve been thinking about growing them out, and I usually cut my own bangs anyways so I don’t know what I’m going on about in #2. Bear with me. I’m running on minimal sleep.
4. In other news, can we talk about the injustice that is coming home tired after a long day, deciding to use the elevator because you just can’t fathom the idea of running up the stairs in your current state, and being blasted in the face with the delicious smell of hot, cheesy pizza as soon as the doors slide open? Tor.ture. This is why I almost always take the stairs.
5. Speaking of stairs, who needs a gym stocked with fancy stairmasters when you live in a very tall condo…
Welcome to where I sometimes work out. And what I mean by that is where I sometimes come to get my blood moving when I feel like I’ve been sitting and working for way too long. I keep going back and forth on the idea of joining a gym, and the fact that I have a perfectly usable gym and a whole lot of stairs in my building is making that decision a lot harder… especially now that the weather is improving and I’ll be able to get outside more. Gah!
6. So I finished reading Big Little Lies, and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a book that’ll make you lose sleep because you just can’t wait to find out what happens next — it’s a whodunnit done right, with just the perfect balance of humour and seriousness. Moriarity has such a clever way of writing, and she weaves her stories in a way that’ll leave you guessing until the very end. Loved it. But now I have no idea what to read next.
7. Actually, I probably won’t have as much time to read since I’ll [hopefully] be spending more time colouring. I love colouring as a way to relax, and I’ve wanted a more “grown up” book for a while now, so I ordered this Enchanted Forest one off Amazon. Now to wait for it to actually get here…

8. And I feel like I haven’t posted a recipe in forever… which is probably because I haven’t. BUT! I do have one coming up for you tomorrow, and it involves these sweet little guys right here…
Happy Thursday, friendly faces! π

Ang @ Nutty for Life
I read big little lies! I liked it but I just felt like at times it was soooo juvenile and that made it hard for me to take the entire book seriously, when in reality the themes were very dark and serious. And important. So I thought the underlying messages were kind of undermined by her humor in a way. But it was a good read.
Hayley @ Full of Life
Loved Big Little Lies too. I am going to check out her other books – have you read any others by that author? I just downloaded the audiobook “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincere because my friend recommended it to me so I am going to start listening to that while driving. I love self development type books!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yup! I read What Alice Forgot and The Husband’s Secret. WAF was ok, but I -really- enjoyed THS!
Carly @ Snack Therapy
I think your hair looks fab ;). I just finished reading The Orphan Train and I loved it! It’s definitely not a mystery, but it’s an awesome fictional story based on real-life in the early 1900s. I’m about to start Before I Go To Sleep, which is supposed to be a Memento-type book.
Melissa
I really loved Big Little Lies! When I first saw the book, I was a bit intimidated by the length, but couldn’t believe what a quick read it ended up being! Before I knew it, I was nearly done. The author definitely has a knack with words and the ability to capture attention.
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs
I ordered the same colouring book. I’ve been waiting forever, but I can’t wait for it to arrive – hopefully it comes soon!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Mine won’t even ship for another 1 to 1.5 months π₯
Suzy
ZOOLANDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn’t read any of the comments, so I’m sorry if it looks like I cheated but I didn’t, I SWEAR. Did anyone else guess it? I love that movie. HAHAHAHA! Sweet.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Woohoo! You’re only the second person to guess it!
Ann
I didn’t know there was such thing as grown-up colouring! That’s really cool. Could you please write about it a little bit (or show a pic of your drawings, a teeny-tiny one maybe) when you’ve started? π I’d love to see what it looks like
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I definitely will, Ann! But apparently that book is in such high demand that it’s constantly out of stock, and mine won’t even ship for another 1 – 1.5 months π₯
Tamieka@fitballingrunningmom
Beautiful hair!!1
Holy stairs batman!!!!
Oh another book to add to the summer reading collections!
coloring-what a great idea for relaxation! Can’t wait to see one of your color-ins!
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl
When I was in college, three friends lived up three VERY tall flights of stairs…we all got amazing cardio that year!
Debbie
I love dates, which is good because I live in the date capital of the world. They’re amazing in smoothies, and I went to a raw food class once and we made a pie crust with dates that was delicious.
Annette@FitnessPerks
I love dates with almond butter, mmmmm!
And wasn’t Big Little Lies so good? I enjoyed it so so much!! Hmmmm. I’d recommend The Silent Sister or Necessary Lies next! (both by the same author)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ooo! I haven’t actually looked into any of her older books, but I’ll check them out!
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
I go to the gym way less in the summer. It’s too nice outside to waste it indoors at the gym so i say wait to get a membership.
Lesley
The stairs to my first apartment were inside and I would use them as a stairmaster at times… like when an ice storm would hit and I couldn’t get outside for 4 days. I couldn’t even walk to my complex’s gym due to the ice, and the stairmaster was a great workout.
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat
Oh gosh, I haven’t colored in ages, but you’re right it’s SO relaxing! I could definitely get into that again!
Kat
1. You’re gorgeous, and if I could rock hair like yours I totally would.
2. Stairs are legitimately my favorite thing ever. NOT. I have to take the stairs to get to my office and the day of leg day almost kills me. Thereβs an elevator right by it that Iβm always tempted to take, but I haven’t given in just yet!
3. I love to color! Whenever my nephews are over we always color together, but they get upset because I wonβt let them color people purple with green spots. Iβm too realistic in my coloring I guess! π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π I’m the same way with my colouring! I probably wouldn’t even let someone colour in my books. I’m horrible.
Chelsea @ Raw N' Toned
That coloring book!!!! I need that, I miss coloring so much! And that book sounds good! I was just thinking this morning, now that I’m done with my personal training certification, I can read a real book again!!! And Lord of the Rings has been calling my name for a while!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Loved LOTR! I know people who’e been reading it every year for -years- and they say they’re always picking up something new. Such a great series.
Bridget
I also live in a tall building, and love to use the stairs as cross training! Such a perk!
Bri
Okay, I need to get that colouring book. We used to doodle at work for stress relief and I’ve told my coworkers about this colouring book…. must order it now!!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More
I’m in TOTAL need of a haircut but I don’t think it’ll be happening anytime soon…my poor locks! lol
Christine
Hi Amanda! I read your blog regularly, but am usually quite silent on the comments. However, I was so excited to hear someone else uses their stairs as a gym as well — I do this once or twice a week when the weather is crappy and it’s almost dinner time π Also, I ordered the same coloring book, but it’s way too in demand to actually arrive…
Happy Thursday!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks for saying hi, Christine! And I feel your colouring book pain… Mine is estimated to be -shipped- anywhere from 1 to 1.5 months π‘
Greer
Smile with your teeth girl!
AJ @ NutriFitMama
I am loving the stairs at the condo- definitely a great workout. I don’t have access to some GOOD stairs out here- I mean, I’m sure SOMEWHERE, but nowhere convenient. Until then, I guess I will just keeping going up at the gym! Boring! π My hair looks AWFUL after I have been working out or doing anything in any sort of hat. Yours looks much better than mine haha!
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola
Where do you get your beanies? I was looking for one this winter and couldn’t find one that I liked.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually get most of mine at snowboarding stores, but I heard that Anthropologie has some cute ones. And I just came across this link that has a pretty good selection of some nice ones — http://www.seventeen.com/fashion/style-advice/tips/g1200/cool-beanies/?
Rachel
WOW! Those stairs are serious business! What an easy way to burn a few more calories in a day. I loved Big Little Lies too – can’t wait to read The Husband’s Secret.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I really enjoyed it! Maybe even more than Big Little Lies.
Chelsea
Those stairs!! Wow!! We live in a 3 story place (tall and skinny!) and sometimes during the day I feel as if I’m constantly running stairs! I’ve been mega slack on recipe posting too. Opps. π
Michelle @ Running with Attitude
I loved “My Husband’s Secret” – Can’t wait to read Big Little Lies! Thanks for the recommendation.
MCM Mama Runs
I think about a gym membership every winter and then manage to get through without it. We live in a house, but it has 3 floors and I seem to be up and down the stairs constantly…
I’ll have to check out that book. I won’t be coloring though – spent way too much time coloring with my kids over the years LOL.
Erin@BeetsPerMinute
I am the same with the stairs in my building. When I don’t feel like working out I just sprint up and down them – which I’m sure the people living in my building probably love. OH WELL! I am actually growing my bangs out and it’s super frustrating, as I hate the length they are at. I seriously need to make a giant poster that reminds me that I should NEVER cut my bangs again, should the thought ever cross my mind, because I always regret them on me! LOL
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually don’t mind bangs, even though they make me look like I’m about 15 π But they’re in that annoying in-betweeny stage right now where they’re not quite long enough to stay behind my ears, so they keep getting in my eyes. Urgh.
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I really need to do something about my hair and I always wait until the last possible second. That is a lot of stairs. Crazy!
Susie @ SuzLyfe
Everyone is onto the coloring book for grownups thing! I do love a good coloring book, but I spend enough time on random tasks that I shouldn’t invite it. I just got my hair cut… and I wish they had done more and a little different. But now I’m like, UGH I don’t want to go and spend the $$ again right away! LAWD
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I hear that. I always tell myself I want to do something different and walk out with the same exact cut One of these days…
Renee @ Bendiful Blog
I am horrible about hair and how to do it and when to cut it I literally will go for like 6 months without anything. I love the stairs I work on the 10t floor of a building and ALWAYS take the stairs, it’s good for steps and it’s FREE! Oh sweet dates I love them too, I think I have some right now I should make something with them.
Hollie
I keep thinking I need to make a hair appointment as well so I completely feel your pain. Your hair looks really nice though and I like it. I swear you never have a bad hair day LOL.
Miss Polkadot
A colouring book for grown-ups?! It looks like you read my mind because that’s something I’ve been – not actively yet, though – searching for. As well as a new book so you actually gave me ideas for two more books to buy. Money spent on books is money well spent, right?!
And geee … I wouldn’t want to live in your condo. Or not on the upper floors at least because ‘m acrophobic and wouldn’t be able to look down that stairway without feeling sick. How did you even manage to take that picture???
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
By leaning over very far and praying that I didn’t drop my phone π And I definitely agree with you about money on books being money well spent. Which is why I don’t feel so bad for the 3 new ones I bought this afternoon π―
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I heart anything involving dates. Also, love the wild hair selfie, and the quote is from Zoolander which is one of the Hubby’s favorite movies.
This has nothing to do with ToL but I just finished my post, linked up and am now watching a beautiful and soft sunrise. I wish you could see it. It’s going to be a good day. π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Maybe we can catch an epic sunrise in a couple of weeks π
Brynn
Dates are my jam! I made some amazing blueberry breakfast bars and coffee creamer this week using them. And they’re my favorite addition to smoothies.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve been using a date-sweetened coffee creamer in my coffee for a while now, too! The combination is crazy good.
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
You know I love to color! I need a new coloring book actually…Love the stairs in your building. You really don’t need a gym unless you feel like taking a group fitness class!
Melanie
I need to check out that book. I’m currently in a reading slump and need to pick it back up!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think you’ll like it! The Husband’s Secret is another one I really enjoyed.
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
If it weren’t for lululemon I would know toque π I like it better than beenie! My kids make fun of my after like crazy after I’ve been wearing anything on my head. Also I actually love the length of your bangs, I used to do the overgrown bangs look on purpose π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I don’t mind the look, but it’s at that annoying length where it’s not quite long enough to stay behind my ears but it keeps going into my eyes π‘
cat
Oh wow love those grown up colouring books! I saw one the other day that was all cities… So pretty!
