Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. First and foremost, I have to send out a huge Happy Birthday to Papa Spoons! I just realized that I don’t have a recent picture of me and the big guy, so we’re gonna have to rock some #tbt action for this one…
I don’t think we’ll be able to celebrate unit this weekend, but you best believe that chocolate cake will be involved.
2. In love with this song. In love. Now excuse me while I play it on repeat until I can’t stand it anymore.
[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI_TvHh0xSc&w=640&h=427″]
3. Have you heard about the “granny” hair trend? Where young women are colouring their hair a silverish blue? Apparently it’s one of the top hair trends these days, but I’m not too sure how I feel about it… I guess it looks kind of neat when done properly, but there’s no way I’d be able to pull it off. I mean, I can’t even remember the last time I went in to get my hair cut (oops)… never mind keeping up with getting my roots dyed regularly. I’ll rock this trend when I’m 60+… at which point it probably won’t be trendy anymore π

4. And another thing I can’t wrap my head around? The 10,000 Calorie Food Challenge. I’m not sure if this is something new or if it’s been around for a while, but it’s basically people trying to prove that they can scarf down 10,000 calories within 24 hours. I don’t even know. I don’t.even.KNOW. I mean, I love food and all, but even watching some videos on Youtube made me feel kind of sick, so I can’t even imagine what attempting it would do to me. I can tell you that we’ll probably never know…
5. Have you seen the new Emoji keyboard?! They finally added a Canadian flag!
‘Bout time, too, considering I complained about the lack of one over a year ago. It’s awesome to see a wider variety of skin colours in there as well, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to call them out for blatantly discriminating against a certain [awesome & essential] piece of cutlery… #wheresthespoon?!?
6. I have this bad habit of buying bags of mixed things, picking out all my favourites first, and then being left with the bits that I don’t like and don’t know what to do with. In trail mix, the chocolate and dried fruit go first. In granola, it’s the clusters. And in frozen mixed berries, it’s everything but the strawberries. I love snacking on frozen fruit, but I’m not crazy about frozen strawberries. In fact, I’d probably go as far as to say that I straight up don’t like them… and now that’s all I have. Le sigh. Time to get my butt into the kitchen and start experimenting with strawberry recipes…
7. And while we’re on the topic of frozen foods, I need to tell you about my latest obsession — snacking on pieces of frozen toast, specifically the cinnamon raisin bread from Ezekiel. I know it sounds crazy — I know it does — but here’s the thing… I don’t really like Ezekiel bread when it’s thawed and/or toasted. It’s too dry and difficult to get down. But frozen is a whole other story. And don’t ask how I figured this out… I actually have no idea.
8. And last but not least, I think I’ve finally decided on what my first official run/race is going to be! There’s a Color Me Rad 5k happening here in July, and I figured that a fun run would be a great way to dip my toes into the realm of racing without any of the stress. That and I’ve always wanted to do a colour run, so it’s like killing two birds with one stone. Now to convince people to run it with me…
No questionsβ¦ just tell me whatever comes to your mind! π

Do you email Arman as soon as your TOL posts go live? He is always the first one to link up. It’s a conspiracy! Thanks freaking crazy they don’t have a spoon! Haha, such random discrimination!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ha! No, I’m sleeping when ToL goes live — Arman is just a stalker π Actually, I think he’s the only one who’s actually awake since he lives on the other side of the world…
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
That cinnamon raisin Ezekiel bread makes some amazing almond butter and jelly sandwiches. Mmmm.
Also, I am not a huge fan of strawberries in general. When they are good, they’re good, but you can never tell from looking at them if they are going to be flavorful or awful so I have basically just given up.
Annette@FitnessPerks
That’s cool about the Canadian emoji–I had no idea! They need a cheese emoji though!
I’ve done the color run a few times & it’s so fun–super chill, laid back, & pure fun. You’ll have a blast!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
They do! Everyone has been saying cheese so far, and it’s sad that they didn’t add any new foods π
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
I’ve always wanted to do a color run! They had one here last month, but I didn’t find out about it until a week before…and honestly, I’m a fair weather runner and the high for that day was like 5osomething (10 Celsius?). Umm, yeah…nothankyou! Lol
I was so excited to see all the new emojis but WHY is there still no cheese…or bacon? Grrr!
I can’t believe people are going gray ON PURPOSE! I swear since I turned thirty, all the grays I had have multipled considerably. I’ve officially stopped trying to pluck them…it was a losing battle anyway. Yeah, I’m definitely not looking forward to the day where I have to keep up with dyeing the grays away…I’m so not a girl when it comes to beauty maintenance. I’m good if I remember to get my hair cut more than once a year!
Darlene
Oh I don’t know if I can let me hair go gray…
Aja
That’s a weird hair trend. I’ve never heard of it. There were a few girls when I was in middle school that did that, though, but that was like 10 years ago.
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
Yay for Color me Rad! A group of bloggers are doing the one in Calgary. Maybe you want to try out two races this summer??
I cannot understand that gray hair trend. I know someone who has had their hair like that for along time so I guess she’s ahead of the trend but I always thought it looked terrible. And the 10,000 calorie food challenge. I didn’t hear of that. But why, just why? Don’t we already overeat?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Actually, I might end up doing the one in Calgary since I know so many people who’ll be running it out there, and so far NO ONE who wants to run it here. Why is E-town so… uncooperative? π
Christina @ The Athletarian
Omg. I totally didn’t even check out the flag situation. YAY for a Canadian flag! Now I can stop using the maple leaf in the nature section.
Exciting news about the colour run! I did one of those a couple years ago and it was a blast. It’s not chip timed so there’s no pressure to run super fast. You just run and have a great time!
Lesley
Frozen strawberries are great for smoothies, or mixed drinks π I think the best margaritas are made with frozen strawberries because not a whole lot of ice is required.
Shashi at RunninSrilankan
Happy Birthday to your pops, Amanda – that is one awesome picture of the two of yall! And 10,000 calories within 24 hours – what???? I love food too – but good gawsh – not sure I could even pull off half that amount gracefully!
I think you need to start a petition for #wheresthespoon π And congrats of signing up for Color Me Rad – you are gonna have so much fun!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s kind of funny (albeit painful) to watch them all psyched till about 6 or 7000 when the reality of it hits and they start struggling with it big time. I don’t even want to know how they feel the next day…
Lana
I eat frozen bread too!! π from a different brand … It’s less dense..but also cinnamon raisin..haha.
Suzy
Oh, I can TOTALLY see you doing the Colour Me Rad Race. Aaaaaand with blue/grey hair. π
Tiff
Cute pic of you and your daddy! Wow, I haven’t heard anything from 3 Days Grace since… gosh, high school maybe? And lastly, ain’t nobody got time for frozen strawberries. Those are the worst. I actually kinda like strawberry ice cream, but it has to not have any big strawberry pieces in it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s been a while since I heard them too, but they used to be one of my favourites! Then they had to go replace the lead singer and it was never really the same…
Bridget
I have so much trouble getting people to sign up for races with me… Bums me out!
That pic of you and your dad is so sweet! Happy b-day to him!!
Gretchen | Gretchruns
Ew I agree, frozen strawberries are the worst. They don’t even taste like anything, and they’re so big! I would love to see what recipes you come up with π
Miss Polkadot
First and foremost: Happy Birthday to your dad! I vote for you getting up a new picture because we all know what your mum looks like but your dad has yet to make an appearance [I think?]. And that’s obviously not too much too ask because you’re a blogger so we need to know, right π ?
That granny hair trend is more than just ridiculous. There aren’t by any chance complementary make-up trends to look wrinkly, too? Sheeesh. Some people …
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Not to my knowledge… at least not outside Halloween, anyways π And I keep wanting to get him to make an appearance but he doesn’t want to! Dad is more camera shy than Mom, I guess…
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables
Happy birthday dad! SO…. I’ll eat all your strawberries for you! π
I don’t think I like that granny look… I mean, it looks good on the model but us “normal folks” I’m not so sure!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π That’s what I’m thinking. It can definitely look good, but it would be hard to pull of in day to day life.
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
Happy birthday pops!
A girl at my salon did that to her hair last year. It looked really cool on her. She had a super edgy haircut at the time. Def not for me, but cool on her!
Heather @Fit n Cookies
Happy Birthday Papa Spoons! Hope you have a great time celebrating this weekend π You know what’s funny… I only like strawberries from the frozen fruit bags, lol. I usually only use them in smoothies, though. Blue silver hair.. like what is that even a thing?! Eek!! The COlor Run is SO fun! It’s a great one for your first race!!!!
Pip {Cherries & Chisme}
Aw I think I need to update my software for the new emojis! Exciting!
I’m running my first colour run in May with one of my best friends. We’re making it into a weekend away because you totally need to celebrate properly after any race right?!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m loving the way you think! I might actually end up running it in a neighbouring city since I know more bloggers who’ll be running it there, so maybe I’ll do the same thing π
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Happy birthday to your dad!! Have LOTS of chocolate cake to celebrate this weekend… Maybe 10,000 calories worth!? π But really now, that trend seems so wasteful to me. I mean, you could feed 4-5 people who actually NEED food with that amount of energy. I just hate wasting food when so many people need it! And that granny hair trend… I’m with you, I rarely get my hair cut – maybe 2 times per year… so I cannot imagine trying to keep up with a dye job. Others can have their fun and we’ll join in our 60’s π
Angie @ LoveTheRunning
I actually really dig the gray hair, is that weird? I think since I’m so pale and naturally blonde there’s not a ton of hair colors that I could pull off so I like having another option lol.
Woohoo on signing up for your first race!! I did the Color Run a few years ago and loved it – my advice would be to start in the first wave (when I did it anyone could be in any wave, no time restrictions). The course ends up getting really really crowded later on so it’s a little more fun and you end up getting a lot more color if you start in the first wave. Good luck with it!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks for the tip, Angie! I’ll try to keep that in mind π
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl
Oh, those mixed things – which chocolate covered berries do I love? ALL OF THEM. But there’s a mix of blueberry, pomegranate, and cherry, and I love blueberries the most, so I dig them all out among the giant cherries and then end up with a bagful of those bites!
Susie @ SuzLyfe
Happy birthday to your pops! I hope it is an awesome one for him. I freeze like everything. My husband does not. And he doesn’t always eat the stuff either and it drives me mad. My mom on the other hand likes to use the freezer for food that has gone bad but she can’t throw away yet (like if the trash isn’t full enough). It’s a sad state of affairs, really.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
My mom freezes so many things that they get buried in the freezer and she ends up having to toss a lot of things out because she doesn’t know how long it’s been in there. Another sad state of affairs.
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely
Happy Birthday to your dad!
Um, the grey hair trend thing is just weird. I don’t think I’l be partaking in that trend anytime soon. I hope it doesn’t last too long.
Yes to the new emoji keyboard! Haha! Isn’t it funny the things we get excited about?!
Mary Beth Jackson
hmmmm- I just spent $100 t night at the beauty shop so I don’t look like trend #3- can’t imagine ever going grey !
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
Was I the first to alert you to the Canadian flag? I feel like maybe! lol… Happy bday to your dad and yay for chocolate cake….And oh, I have decided you got the frozen cinnamon raisin bread thing from me, I probably told you at some point that I love nibbling on it from the freezer lol. We are way too alike!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think you might have been! I was hoping they had one in there, but you were probably the one to confirm it.
Melanie
I’m glad I’m not the only one who got excited about the new emojiis! I am a little upset that all the people emojjis do not have options. The family ones are all the same. I was hoping for a variety!
I got some granny “highlights” going on so who knew I was on trend. lol I actually thought last summer, I was getting sunkissed highlights until I looked closer and realized, those were all gray hairs. It comes in handy teaching middle schoolers. I tell them they are my witch hairs. π
Have a super weekend! And lots lf chocolate cake!
Chelsea
Haaappy birthday papa spoons!! π π
I’m with you.. Totally don’t get the grey hair trend. I also haven’t had my hair cut in almost three years. Opps. π
Frozen toast! Crazy!!
Also. I guess we can still be friends on the strawberry thing… Frozen strawberries are a smoothies dream! π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Smoothies YES, but I can’t eat them straight up like I can all the other berries. I think it’s because they have too much water so they end up being like chunks of ice.
Chelsea
Ahh yes. I’ve never been a fan of thawed-frozen-berries π
Erin@BeetsPerMinute
I once did my hair platinum blonde and it looked white and I freaked out, so I can’t imagine I’d be too keen on the silver hair look. True, I’ve seen it “work” on some people – it’s really popular in the UK, but I definitely don’t know if I like it or not. To each their own!
Also, I’ve always loved the Canadian flag. I grew up in Northern New Hampshire, so we practically had more Canadian flags in the area than US ones.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
YAY color me rad!!! I’m so excited to do the Calgary one.
And as for emojis – I’m still disappointed in the lack of taco emoji. They need one of those. A big happy birthday to your dad!!
And the frozen bread thing – you’re kind of strange. I love you anyways though :-p
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You know what’s sad?! I know more people running it in Calgary than I do here in Edmonton. Maybe I’ll have to look into running the one over there!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
A color run sounds like such a fun idea. That’s on my bucket list too because hello, color.
The bread thing is weird. I just buy and consume the kind which tastes great at room temperature or even better, hot from the oven. Mmmm… bread.
Only people who have no greys at all or are all over grey would consider that hair style. In fact, I consider it mildly offensive. My issue obviously.
I will take your strawberries.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
That’s so exciting that you picked your first race! And that is a really interesting hair trend..not sure what I would think if I saw someone with that, but at least now I know that it’s “in style”! Happy birthday to your dad!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m pretty sure that as long as you slap on an edgy makeup look, you can make -any- hair colour appear trendy. It’s the beauty of makeup
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
That’s the strangest hair trend, can’t see how it’ll be around for long. Big happy birthday to your dad, and love that picture – so sweet π
Hollie
Happy birthday to your dad! I love celebrating birthdays with my family! I hope he has a great day.
I’ve heard those color me rad races are fun. We have a few down in NJ too…nice relaxing atmosphere and not too crazy!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I freeze my granola bars, muffins and cookies. I love them right out of the freezer. So it makes complete & total sense to me that you would like it that way. Good luck with the 5k! That’s a fun one. As for that granny hairstyle, um….no. I’m old. I’m sure that will be coming soon enough.
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner
I don’t know about that granny hairstyle. And new emojis!! I must look now π
Arman @ thebigmansworld
frozen. bread.
OH I totally do that do, but with frozen chicken.
Send the strawberries to Niki. I pick out the raspberries, blueberries and she gets the strawberries. Also hi 5 to multicultural emojis. Latte coloured arman.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I hope the chicken is at least cooked first π And you can have my raspberries and blackberries — too seedy for me.
