Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Remember how I mentioned that my appetite was kind of MIA in yesterday’s post? I’m happy to report that all is right in the world again! The past two days have been “wake up ready to chew my arm off dive right in to breakfast” mornings, so all is as it should be once more. See? Everything has a way of balancing out.
2. Well…. one thing that’s been feeling a little bit off is my thirst. I have no idea what it is, but I just can’t seem to get enough water in me lately. Is it the fact that it’s been so dry around these parts? Or that I’ve been eating a little more fibre than usual? Some kind of electrolyte imbalance? Salt issues? So many questions…
3. I overheard the best exchange between an elderly gentleman and a barista while I was waiting in line in Starbucks the other day. I guess he’s a regular and I guess he must always be in a good mood because the barista said to him “You’re always so happy and smiling!” His reply? “Well, why not?” Besssssssst. Why not indeed….
4. On that note, this is probably a bad time to admit it, but the song Happy by Pharrell no longer makes me happy. In fact, it annoys me so much that it makes me want to kick kittens (please note: I would never actually kick a kitten). Instead, I’ve been listening to things like this…
[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve8sNTqrzCw&w=560&h=315″]
Apparently I’m channeling my inner hillbilly. Although, having grown up in Alberta with a good handful of friends who lived out in the country, I will say that it’s a lifestyle I’m quite familiar with. Good times.
5. But going back to kittens, allow me to introduce you to the resident cat at the Starbucks I frequent…
I have no idea what his name is or who he belongs to… or if he’s even a he at all. All I know is that he’s always prowling the patio and cozying up to any patron who’ll take an interest in him. And when I say cozying up, I mean cozying up. This cat has no qualms whatsoever with jumping into your lap or lounging around on any unoccupied chair that might be at your table. Forget personal space — he wants to be your friend! It makes me want a cat. Too bad I’m allergic 😥
6. But at least I have a dog! Well, sort of. I had to leave her at home when I moved out and I really miss the little bugger! But at least I get to see her at my parents’ when I go over there on the weekends. Kaiah says hi 😀
She also says stop freaking taking pictures of me PLEASE…
7. So you know those oatmeal date balls I made the other day? I couldn’t help but laugh at the fact that they totally cleaned me out of a few kitchen supplies. I mean, just check out the collection of empties I was left with…
Not bad, eh? 😆 I don’t think I’ve ever made anything that finished off so many of my ingredients. Confession: I get a secret thrill from using things up and being able to throw the packaging away. So oddly satisfying.
8. Also… it would appear that I really like Popchips…
I blame the avocados…
9. I need some Rice Krispy Squares in my life. Bad.
10. And don’t worry… I didn’t forget about the random facts!
1. It’s also my favourite sweetener, so I’m going to try hard not to think about the fact that it’s essentially bee spit.
2. That’s either extremely brilliant or extremely sad…
3. Which is supposed to make up for the fact that it can bloat you and ruin your teeth?
4. So dads… don’t be so quick to accuse your wives of funny business if your kids don’t look like you.
5. That’s even more disturbing than the bee spit fact 😯 I hate ants.

Kate @ Baking in Yoga Pants
I now officially need Rice Krispie treats in my life too 🙂
Mary Frances
I decided the benefit of gum wasn’t worth the bloat. Oh well, I can now call in professional cuddlers (what on earth??) You are on a pet kick, first the cat and then the dog (even if they aren’t really yours 😉 ) And yes, I get an odd satisfaction from finishing bags of things, too! Unless they are chocolate chips … that’s always a little sad 🙂
Lauren
I just ate a buttercream topped chocolate cookie smothered in chocolate covered riced krispies. Thought I would throw it in here. ;o)
And my question for the wrong baby fact… Do they ever sort out the babies to their rightful owners?! AM I WITH THE RIGHT PARENTS?!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Jerkkkkk 😛 And I honestly have no idea about the babies 😯 How would they even know? 😯
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
That drippy almond butter in your first photo collage… *DROOL*
Robyn @thereallife_RD
I’m addicted to avocado mashed on rice cakes so maybe that’s kind of like pop chips?? Or maybe some pc’s are better…
I am oddly satisfied by throwing away empty containers too- ha. I don’t know what it is but maybe because I have random things in my pantry that always need to be used up!
Jodi
Mmmmmm…Pop Chips…BBQ is my absolute favorite!! And seriously, what ISN’T avocado good with???
Sky @ The Blonde In Black
The song Happy makes me want to kick kittens too and I’m typically not a kitten kicker! On the kitten note we have a cat around our house that’s about to have babies!! I can’t wait to have some cute little kittens around!
Anna
I have so much commentary!
Ok, first of all, your breakfasts look sooo delicious. I want to eat them right now.
Second of all, you guys have ridiculously nice Starbucks chairs that we definitely do not have over here. They actually look comfortable! AND you have a resident Starbucks cat?! Lucky.
Third of all, your dog is incredibly beautiful.
Fourth of all, I get an immense amount of satisfaction when I use up ingredients, as well. Maybe it helps us feel like we’re putting them to good use and cleaning the house? 😉
And fifth of all, I am so over Happy, as well, though I was never super into it to begin with. But now it’s just gotten to be too much.
Cat
Well I’m just overly HAPPY (hehe, sorry to torment you with that) that I can get Popchips in the UK because I can already imagine how good those + avos would be… new snack of choice methinks 😉
Laura @ RunningJunkie
I actually get the same satisfaction from finishing a bag or jar or something. Perhaps it’s because we’re woman and we’re excited we get to shop again.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 I never thought about it that way, but you might be right. The best is when it’s beauty products 😉
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions
Hahaha I love cooking/baking projects that use up everything I had, especially when I get rid of multiple things at once. It makes me feel so productive! Although I *don’t* like it when I use up all the chocolate chips I have for a baking project, because then I don’t have chocolate chips to snack on later 😛
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs
I would love to meet your Starbucks kitty! I’m the person who walks up to random cats wandering the street to pet them.
Karey @ Nutty About Health
I just want to hug & squeeze your dog… so adorable!!! That cat at Starbucks is pretty cute too. I wish my cat liked to cuddle w/me, but she doesn’t really like me much – she LOVES my husband. Can’t say I blame her. 😉
Polly @ Tasty Food Project
I haven’t had rice krispy squares in ages but you’re making me crave for some! Yum!!
Alex @ Kenzie Life
Those veganic rice crisps are my favorite ones on the market! I love that they don’t have a lot of added sugar and use agave nectar!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
Love your puppy. So cute! I also love that your Starbucks has a resident cat. I would hang out there all the time.
Ganeeban
Love your disclaimer about not actually kicking cats! HAHA! I am always thirsty, I’m scared its a sign of early on-set diabetes, it runs rampant throughout both sides of my family 🙁 Pop Chips are dangerous, I can eat the entire bag of the BBQ ones! I’m so going to try your concoction of regular w/ Avo, that sounds like a delicious snack!
rebecca
Those pictures of Kaia are so cute! In the second picture you can tell he’s feeling really awkward and trying to avoid eye contact with the camera (my dogs do the same when I try taking too many pictures of them).
So . . . you’re one of THOSE people (the water, in a jar). Hmm . .
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 I totally am. The first time I tried it was because I didn’t have any clean mugs so it was kind of necessity, and then I got hooked. There’s just something about the ridges that makes it more enjoyable to drink from!
Lauren @ Will Run for Boston
Okay, your dog is absolutely adorable! Her expressions are priceless!
All these pictures of Popchips are making me really want to run to the store and grab a bag to go with the perfectly ripe avocado that I have sitting on the counter at home! What is your favorite flavor of popchips?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think Sour Cream & Onion is probably my favourite, with the original ones coming in second.
Morganne @ NutButterRunner
Oh my gosh!!! YOUR DOG! AH! Squeeze with cuteness!
Brittany
I feel so satisfied and accomplished when I use up the entire package of something. Especially veggies, because they tend to spoil easiest. I don’t like spoilage, so it’s always a victory when I rip through food! HA. I want to go to the Starbucks you go..a cat and great people!? Hell yes!! I have great people at my spot, but NO CAT! HAHA. Your dog is just adorable AH!
Amanda @runtothefinish
Too funny I went through weeks of no appetite and now this week it’s like there isn’t enough food on earth for me!!
Caitlin
Mmm most of those facts today officially freak me out. The ants, the babies, and the honey?? Good thing I look like both my parents or I’d be worried 😉 I’ve been noticing that I’m thirstier these days, too…think it’s the changing weather and more running in my case. This warm up came out of nowhere, and my body is still trying to adjust!
Ang @ Nutty for Life
Wahhhh okay I did not know that bees digested the honey first. WTF. I thought pollen just went in the little honeycomb holes and then turned into honey somehow! I’m scarred for life.
If I had a pet, it would be a cat, I think. They’re much more my type – stand-offish when they need space but loving when they want to be. My dad hates them, though, so it’s always been a no-go.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve always been a dog person, but if I could do it now, I’d definitely get a cat… They just seem so much more independent and able to take care of themselves. Which is good considering I can barely keep my plant alive 😉
Jen @ Bagels to Broccoli
I’m with so many others – if I hear “Happy” one more time, I will not be held responsible for my actions.
Definitely gross about the honey thing – even though I still like it (the out of sight, out of mind syndrome, perhaps). And I’m totally using the baby thing as an excuse the night time my mother has something cheeky to say…and I will totes be eagle hawk watching the nursing staff when I give birth one day.
Brianna
Um..That ant fact is positively terrifying! The baby one is a tad scary as well..
I have 4 dogs that I left when I moved out of my parents house. I miss having a dog around every single day.
Megan @ The Skinny-Life
I’m so over the Happy song too. In fact it makes me angry now when I hear it. It’s so annoying! I can’t understand why when a good song comes out it has to be played to the death! There are plenty of good songs that can be rotated in. And seriously, a cuddle company? Only in LA would people pay for that!
Amy@Long Drive Journey
I always think it’s so cute that all of your food has the French translation as well! Do you speak French??
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That depends on what you mean by “speak” 😆 I think I studied it for something like 8 years in school, and while I used to be pretty decent at it, I didn’t use it once I graduated so I kind of forgot most of it. Now most of my French comes from reading the packaging 😉
cait @pieceofcait
The other night i literally got sucked in reading random facts on twitter. I get saying “OMG” “what!? “really?!” HAHA, seriously some of them are mind blowing 🙂
Ashley
MMMMmmmm bee spit. Love that stuff. Oh, and old men. They are AWESOME! I have a thing with cute old men. When I worked at a Country Store, they used to come in on Sunday mornings to grab the paper and a coffee, and they’d stay and talk to me about the old times. It was super special, I miss it!
Lisa @ Running out of Wine
I also enjoy the feeling of finishing an item and throwing it out! I hate throwing away stuff that goes bad before i finished it, so maybe that’s why.
Um a cuddle specialist?! That sounds kind of creepy to me:) And I can’t believe how many newborns are given to the wrong parents. You would think they would figure out a better way to keep track of them or something:)
Davida @ The Healthy Maven
The pup is so cute!!! I’ve been stalking Petunia like it’s my job. Her owners think I’m nuts!
Christina @ the athletarian
Omgoshhhhhh your dog is BEAUTIFUL.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Wanna trade? 😉
Meranda@fairytalesandfitness
That “Happy” song never really bothered me until I figured out what he was actually seeing. Is he really saying “if you feel like a room without a roof”? Ok if those aren’t the lyrics i’m gonna feel really dumb….lol
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 I do believe that’s what he’s actually saying. And I guess it’s supposed to mean that you feel like you don’t have a ceiling holding you down? Who knows!
Jess
I love that your starbucks has a resident cat!
Kat
Mmmm Brantley Gilbert is o of my favs. He’s a tasty one 😉
And why the heck am I not surprised about the cuddling company here in LA? Seriously some times I think we are made up of a bunch of sissys…
And the fact that newborns are given to the wrong parents, just makes me want to a) have a home birth or b) adopt a kid. So that way even if they give me the wrong kid, it’s still a kid who needs a home, not one whose just been misplaced. Yikes!
Emma @ Life's A Runner
I’m allergic to cats too! I can joke about them, but as soon as they come anywhere near me it’s like CALL THE COPS. I can’t think of anything else intelligent to say because my stomach ALSO is totally yelling at me. 😉
