Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Yesterday was Papa Spoons’ birthday! We didn’t do much since it was the middle of the week and everyone (including the birthday boy man himself) was busy, but there’ll definitely be some extra celebrating when we all get together for Easter this weekend. I did manage to pop in to work and surprise him with some goodies from Duchess, though…
I even let him call dibs on which cake he wanted; but before you go praising my selflessness, I should probably tell you that I bought two chocolate ones 😆
2. Speaking of cakes, we need to talk about my chocolate chip skillet cookie/cake for a second because the illogical logic that was responsible for it coming into existence makes for a good laugh. See, I wanted a cookie, but I didn’t feel like portioning out drop cookies and baking multiple trays. Eureka! I’ll just make one giant cookie! Wait… will that even work? Probably not on a sheet — I’ll make it in a skillet! But I don’t have a skillet… That’s okay! I’ll go out and buy one! Because a 45-minute round trip to the store was clearly more efficient than spending an extra 5 minutes scooping out cookie dough. But it was so.very.worth.it…
3. … especially because I ended up coming across some pretty good steals that I didn’t even know I needed (story of my life)…
A few napkins, bowls, and plates for food photography purposes, a mini food processor because it was on sale and I didn’t have one, and a cookie scoop. And yes, I’m well aware of the humour behind the fact that I bought a cookie scoop on a shopping trip that was prompted by a lack of desire to scoop cookies. This is the way my mind works — I’ve come to terms with it.
4. I’ve also come to terms with the fact that I’ll never be normal when it comes to socks…
… which is why warmer weather needs to hurry up and get here already so that I can can abandon the boots and sneakers that make socks a necessity and let my toes blow free in the wind!… or something.
5. The only thing I’m going to miss about the colder weather is the fact that it made wearing beanies perfectly acceptable. I can’t even tell you how many bad/lazy hair days my beanie has saved me from. What am I going to do when it’s too hot to wear winter hats? Maybe I’ll finally take the plunge, chop off all my hair, and rock a pixie cut. Or maybe not 😯
6. I have the worst luck when it comes to technology… I was trying to get some blog work done the other day when my internet decided that it felt like taking a midday nap. Fine — we’re all entitled to some rest. I headed out to my office (read: Starbucks) to mooch their wifi for a while, only to discover that Spoons’ host went down in the 3 minutes it took me to get from my front door to the coffee shop… #FML
7. In more positive blog-related news, I finally finished my media kit. I’ve been putting it off for months and months, and it feels so good to have it done. I also installed a new social sharing plugin called Digg Digg, which you can see floating over on the left side of my page. Slowly but surely tackling that blogging to-do list… now if someone could bully me into organizing my recipe page 😥 … Also! Would anyone be interested in a post highlighting some of my favourite WordPress plugins? Let me know!
8. This smoothie makes me think of melting chocolate ice cream…. except better because it’s a whole lot more chocolately. That’s my biggest beef with chocolate ice cream — the flavour just isn’t intense enough for my raging chocaholic. This guy, on the other hand? Dreamy.
9. I caught a bit of Gone With The Wind the other day (does anyone else love classic movies?!?), and in the scene where Scarlett proclaimed that “[she’ll] never go hungry again,” the first thing that popped into my head was: “that’s exactly how I feel in relation to recovering from my eating disorder.” 😆 It gave me a good giggle.
10. I’m in need of a new book. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Ender’s Game, but I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of sci-fi… Fantasy, yes, but sci-fi not so much. For anyone who’s read it… is it worth picking up? Oh… and Happy Thursday 😀

Happy belated birthday to Papa Spoons! And I’d say you can still consider yourself selfless for the fact that you braved the cold to deliver the treats.
Wait, people use cookie scoops?! Either I’m cheap or using a spoon is what lazy cookie bakers like me do. Though now that I know the scoops exist…
You’d think I had the sock issue all sorted because I always wear tights. BUT my feet are in between two shoe sizes so I always need to wear a pair of socks on top of my tights to make shoes fit. As if that wasn’t looking odd enough wearing two differently coloured ones… Why?!
Amy@Long Drive Journey
Hmmm, I hate to bring this up BUT I don’t see anything floating on the left side of the screen! I’m using Google Chrome. Maybe Digg Digg is not optimized for that? Or maybe it’s because I read your posts from your homepage and it doesn’t show up unless you click on the post?
Bloggy stuff might either be the death of me or my biggest accomplishment, depends on the day. When I finally figure out how to center that title or how to change that css, I feel like I’m on top of the world.
My Ninja Chopper is a mini food processor and I have written whole posts on how much I love it, so enjoy yours!
Amy@Long Drive Journey
Did some troubleshooting. It’s because I read your posts by going to your homepage not through a reader that directs me to each individual post’s URL. When I clicked on the comments, I didn’t see it because I was immediately directed down to the comments section. But then I happened to scroll back up, and I saw it!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yep! I’m thinking I’m going to try to figure out how to make it scroll all the way down to the comments… Add one more thing to the blogging to-do list 😕
Yoojin
since spring/summer’s coming around the corner, you can totally use your cookie scooper to make… WATERMELON BALLS 😀
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Or scoop ice cream? 😀
Yoojin
bahahah! oh, if we’re going in that direction, let’s just go for scooping almond butter 🙂
Caitlin
Yes! Give it a try at least (ender’s game that is). I’m not a fan of sci fi stuff usually, but I liked ender’s game. Thought it raised some very interesting social/moral/ethical questions, too. Mmm that skillet cookie still makes my mouth water. I was going to buy cupcakes for easter, but now I think I’ll just make that haha. And happy birthday to your daddy 🙂
Beth @ The Small Victories
For what it’s worth, I’ve never actually read Ender’s Game, but I did see the movie on my way back from NYC–it’s a very good movie and a really interesting plot. It’s definitely a book I’d like to read at some point.
Also, if you don’t mind, I’m just going to transform myself into Papa Spoons so I can get in on those treats! They seriously look like heaven. Happy birthday to him, though!
Alexis @ Hummusapien
Wahhhhh my mini food processor broke and I’m dying for a new one! Sometimes I’m just too lazy to clean the big one, let’s be real. Have a fab Thursday beautiful!
Danica @ It's Progression
The only food processor I have is a really tiny one, and I can’t wait until I get a big one someday – I want to make my own nut butters and this little one just doesn’t cut it!
Ang @ Nutty for Life
Hmmmm Ender’s Game.. I saw the movie, didn’t read the book. I really liked the movie, surprisingly, but a lot of people who read the book said the movie was terrible (I guess that’s typical). I just read a scifi book called The Fifth Wave.. I was not a fan. Way too long for how much actually happened in the book. Have you read that??
PS cookie scoops are da bomb
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Nope! Never read or even heard of that one, but you’re not making it sound too appealing 😛
cait @pieceofcait
that cookie skillet looks amaze!!! we tend to celebrate birthdays on sundays in our fam, just easier! cant wait to see what changes with your blog! I have huge to do list too 🙁
Becky@TheSavedRunner
I haven’t heard of the book you mentioned, but have you read the Divergent series yet? I am reading the third book right now and it’s so good!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I have! It’s definitely one of my favourite dystopian series’. Are you planning to see the movie? I heard it’s a good one!
Becky@TheSavedRunner
Yes I am planning on seeing it! I have been wanting to see it ever since it came out in theaters I just haven’t had time!
Davida @ The Healthy Maven
Curt’s fav book is ender’s game! I already need another food prop display, mine is full. Scratch that, I need another apartment lol
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne
OMG those three cakes look amazing!!! Especially the top right one, it rinds me of a donut hahaha which I’m kind of obsessed with!! And I know exactly what you mean!! I debating wearing a beanie in 84 degree weather yesterday, all because I missed wearing them!!
Emma @ Life's A Runner
I need a haircut so badly I actually cannot remember the last time I wore it down – It’s always had to have something done to it or else I look like the loch ness monster. 😉
Man am I going to miss the hat excuse too. I have one of those beach hats, but nothing compares to my bright blue toque with a foot-long pompom. Not even kidding!
jill conyers
I’ll organize your recipes if you’ll write my About Page. One one of the last items on my current blog to-do list. I keep putting it off!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That’s another thing that I’ve been putting off as well 😥
Pip {Cherries & Chisme}
Pahahahaha I am getting excited FOR winter here so I can cover my bad hair days in a beanie 😀
Am about to have to run away to Starbucks myself due to the lovely builders who have decided to spend the morning drilling outside my window… so much for a quiet morning working in my pjs 🙁
Happy Birthday to Papa Spoons! What flavour were the other cakes? They look delicious 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
The one on the left was a lemon meringue, and the one on the right was a Paris brest, which is like a pastry thing filled with praline cream.
Megan @ Meg Go Run
I like that in cold weather, I can wear boots and it doesn’t matter if my socks match or not. 🙂
Brittany
The internet ALWAYS DOES THAT TO ME. So annoying haha. Happy bday to the pops! I need to try that smoothie, looks delicioussss.
Nichole
Those desserts look delicious! That is too funny that you bought 2 chocolate! And chocolate chip cookie cake?! What?! It makes me think of a deep dish dessert I have had at a place called Unos but yours looks so much better! I do love my boots but I took am excited to let those toes breathe! LOL
Gabi
Amanda you had me laughing so hard through the beginning of this post that I almost lost my cereal. But hey, it all worked out in the skillet and you also have a cookie scooper in case you decide you want to take the time (5min) to scoop. Good grab on buying yourself an extra chocolate cake, I would have done the same 🙂 Happy Birthday Papa Spoons! Yes please for a post on your favorite Word press plugins! Happy Thursday!!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
Oh wow do those cakes ever look incredible. I totally would’ve bought an extra one for myself too! Hahahah
I stole your wifi. Sorry. There’s big major outages all over Canmore for weeks now, and it’s finally returned. Life without internet is incredibly isolating and challenging! I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy. Well, maybe Arman.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Happy belated birthday to your dad!!
I’m not a sci-fi fan at all, but I read Ender’s Game and actually really liked it. Sooo much better with the movie, despite the fact that the book obviously doesn’t have Harrison Ford or Xaro Xhoan Daxos (yes, I realize that’s obviously not his name, but that’s what I’ve taken to calling him). I’m actually really glad that GoT was made into a TV show so I could finally figure out how the hell to pronounce that – whenever I read his name in the book I would mentally change it to ‘that guy’ because I seriously had no idea. P.S. I had no idea that guy was British…he doesn’t seem really British to me.
P.S. I thought the cookie scooper was a melon baller.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 So I didn’t even know Ender’s Game was a movie — how sad is that? And I can’t say that character name pronunciation ever made it on my list of reasons why I’m happy GoT is a show, but whatever works for ya 😉
Susie @ Suzlyfe
Oh my good freaking goodness, whhhhhy do you have to start my morning off with the picture of those cakes? HO-ly cannoli. And I can’t imagine how expansive your media kit is–my would be like a postage stamp!
Cat
Hehe love your dedication to kitchen supplies! I love getting new bits – it opens up a whole range of new recipes I’ve had flagged for far too long 😉
Chelsea
Mismatched socks – you’re trying to win my heart here 🙂 last weekend it was in the 70s…and afterwards I was doing laundry and thought…where are all the socks (uhm. Auto correct just put cocks instead of socks :-O) ..then I remembered I hadn’t had to wear any! Yaaayay. (Dont get too jealous, though, it snowed on Tuesday)
Food processor = lemon poppy seed date balls (twss).
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I need a haircut suddenly in the worst way. It’s been way too many months….I love chocolate but never want chocolate ice cream, the taste is never right or fudgy enough like you say. I prefer a vanilla base and mix in chocolately toppings.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yesssss! My thoughts exactly. Vanilla is the perfect base for anything you wanna toss in, which is usually chocolate chips, caramel sauce, or crushed up cookies for me.
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely
I’ve totally given up trying to find matching socks. I swear my washer or drier eats one of the socks out of every pair I wash. Happy Birthday to your dad! How cute are those little goodies?!
Khushboo
A belated happy birthday to your daddy- hope he had a great day! These cookie pictures are outta control- I wish I could eat through the screen ;). I have the opposite beef with chcolate ice cream. I love chocolate (almost too much) but find chcolate-flavored ice cream (and cake) too intense. That being said, I won’t turn down either if they’re my only options haha. Congrats on the blogger kit. After 4 years of blogging, I should probably get a start on mine…please give me a kick up the butt to do so!!
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
Go for the pixie cut!!!! It was so scary to take the plunge but have never regretted it since!!!
It can always grow back!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
So the exact same thing happened when I wanted to do a skillet cookie. I went out specifically to buy a skillet for making one cookie…and have since made dozens of baked goods in said skillet. 🙂
I’d love to see a post with your favorite plug-ins! Do you use a plugin to show the “previous post” link? I suppose I should be having my blog lady hard code things, but I like being able to install/uninstall things myself.
Happy birthday to papa spoons!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Nope! No plugins for previous posts. I think that’s just part of WP? Or my theme?
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Hmm it might be part of your theme because I have WP!
Jessie
Phew! Glad to know I’m not the only one who never wear matching socks. I just find it takes too long to sit there & match them.. I mean because my life is so busy (do you sense my sarcasism?) Hmm what’s on my mind? Probably the fact that I could go for some Caribou Coffee right now (iced latte), but just have no energy to go get one. I guess I’ll just have to have Starbucks delivered 🙂
Victoria
Seriously need to try that cookie, and the smoothie – raging chocoholic here too! So much so that I sent a rather excitable text to my boyfriend last night reading “it’s only 3 more days til Easter! #3moredaystilchocolateday!” And then realised it’s a good thing I’m not a practising Christian or I’d be burnt at the stake for completely missing the point of Easter O_o 😛
Also, loving the beanie, and please don’t cut off all your beautiful hair!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 Don’t worry… I’m pretty sure chocolate is a lot of peoples’ favourite part of Easter. I’m a practicing Catholic, and even I’m looking forward to chocolate eggs and bunnies 😉
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Thank you for clearing up the difference between a skillet and a frying pan….I may have resorted to burning the shoebox down.
As for the beanies…seriously best lifesavers ever. They are the perfect excuse to not have to comb/put wax/do anything to hair. I wore them until the brinks of summer before caps came into play. Problem = sorted.
Juli @1000lovelthings
yes yes yes! Story of MY life 🙂 I always desperately need stuff I didn’t know even existed when I go to the shops! And no shame with the socks. I’m doing the same 🙂 My mother’s teasing me forever for combining different socks. But hey if the washer didn’t keep them all the time we wouldn’t need to pair them up like this, right? I don’t like chocolate ice cream for the same reason. Never chocolaty enough. And I always add extra cacao powder to my chocolate protein shakes. Makes them so much better! Have a lovely day, lovely lady 🙂
Shashi @ RunninSrilankan
April is a month of birthdays for the Spoons clan! Happy, Happy Birthday to Papa Spoons! Those desserts are so worth taking a break from work for! And congrats on finishing your media kit!
Yes, yes yes – to a post on your favorite WordPress plugins and compatibility issues – that would be AWESOME!!!! I have Ender’s Game at home, but I haven’t read it yet – how bout you bring that skillet cookie and come over for a dinner of brocoflower and we will slather that cookie with AB and you can borrow the book – cool?
🙂
Happy Thursday sweet lady xxs
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You’ve got yourself a deal! 😉 Hope you’re having a lovely Thursday, Shashi <3
