Aaaaand cue the randomness!
1. So I went to Starbucks the other day to grab a dry cappuccino. You guys remember how obsessed I used to be with those things… I went through a phase that lasted a good year where I was basically in there every.single.day. My wallet kind of hated me for it, but it was something I really looked forward to so I justified the cost. Anyways… I hadn’t had one in forever, so I figured I would treat myself a few days ago.
You guys… it pains me to say this, but… it wasn’t as good as I remembered 😥 In fact, I was sitting there wishing I had just gotten a regular Pike instead. Maybe it was just poorly made since the barista was kind of new, but yeah… I think I’ll be sticking to coffee from my Keurig from now on.
2. Speaking of the Keurig, I finally got around to taking advantage of my ‘get-2-free-boxes-when-you-register’ deal and put in my order online…
I know I said I was kind of over flavoured coffees, but these are flavours that I can’t find anywhere around here so I figured… what the hey… I’m especially excited about the chocolate glazed donut one since I’ve been hearing so many good things; and chocolate glazed donuts are easily my favourite kind. Hmm… I’m thinking I might need to whip up another batch of these…
3. One last thing about coffee… Does anyone else shed a tear or two when they finish the last sip? I try to limit myself to one cup a day (otherwise my stomach goes into I-hate-you mode), but you’d better believe that I savour that cup as if it were liquid gold.
4. Speaking of drinks, do you guys have a cut-off point when it comes to how late you’ll keep drinking water? There’s a whole lot of nonsense out there about not eating later than [insert hour here], but what about drinking? I ask because sometimes I’ll wake up ridiculously early because I have to go to the bathroom and I won’t be able to fall back asleep after that… I’m wondering if not drinking late will help me avoid that…
5. These are the kind of random things that run through my head. And if you need further proof of my strangeness, look what I found when I opened one of my jars of almond butter the other day…
Half a date 😯 A whole date I could understand, but half?? I’m going to assume that I ate the other half, but why did I leave it in there? Why didn’t I eat it, or at the very least, not store it in an AB jar? Some things even I can’t explain… Like why I never manage to stir my nut butter jars well enough to avoid being left with the crusty bits at the bottom. It’s a sad, sad day when you come to the end of a jar…
6. But it’s a happy day when you find a new jar in your pantry that you didn’t even know you had…
I honestly thought the crusty remains were all I had left of my beloved Justin’s almond butter (which needs to get its butt to Canada… hint, HINT), so you can probably imagine the ridiculous happy dances I was doing when I unexpectedly came across a brand new jar buried in the back of my pantry. I have a lot of nut butters… sometimes a few jars can get lost in the crowd.
7. I’m really looking forward to the weekend. Why? Because Saturday morning I’ll [hopefully be riding shotgun] in a car headed here:
I feel like it’s been forever since I got to go snowboarding in the mountains, and this might be my last chance before the season ends. Can.not.wait. I’m thinking I might need to do another As We Speak mountain edition — I’ve been slacking on the selfies lately!
8. I’m also thinking that I need to whip up a batch of these soft and chewy granola bars for the trip…
I’m almost afraid to open up those flood gates again, though, because I literally cannot control myself around those things. One batch leads to two; two to four; and before I know it, all I’m eating is granola bars 😆
9. One thing putting a damper on my good mood is the fact that I still need to survive one ordeal before I can enjoy myself this weekend — I need to go get my blood taken. Womp, womp. It’s just part of a routine yearly health exam, but ugh… I can think of about a million other things I’d rather be doing, especially since I have the biggest fear of needles. No joke. I can’t even watch people getting poked on TV without feeling all sorts of nervous and jerky, and every.single.time I get my blood drawn, I end up one breath away from passing out — I’m talking ears roaring and black spots taking over my vision. I know it’s no big deal and you can barely feel it, but I feel it in my head! Anyone else? And anyone have tips on how to survive make it easier?
10. This post has been far too wordy for random thoughts — sorry! Hope you’re having a happy Thursday 😀

Those donuts just made me weak in the knees. I had a banana and two clementines for first breakfast so there’s definitely some room for donuts.
I drink one very large cup of coffee in the morning (i.e. if it’s a small mug, I’ll refill it one more time), and lately I’ve been drinking an afternoon cup as well, which is probably too much caffeine in a day. I’ve been trying to switch my afternoon cup to tea to balance it all out. I also drink water right up until bed because whether I do or don’t, I will get up at least once in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. My bladder is the size of a pea; it’s almost embarassing.
Mayra
Oh God… everytime I get my blood taken I will certainly pass out. Not ALMOST pass out, I really do blackout for 10 seconds or so. Terrible. I spent 1 week at the hospital with awful digestive issues in the beggining of the month and you can imagine… neddles everywhere, all the time, blood taken, medicine right into my veins and all those kinds of torture.
Now speaking of the good stuff, nothing better than finding a new jar of nut butter and celebrate it with 4 or 5 spoonfuls straight from the jar! (guilty) hahaha
Dietitian Jess
Hmm… chocolateglazed donut sounds amazing!! I’ve had the coconut mocha one (two of my favorite flavors combined) and it was kinda disappointing/watery. Good luck with the bloodwork… i used to have a terrible time getting blood taken and I had to do it every month. So here’s what I recommend: 1) don’t look at any equipment before or after 2) sing a song in your head and try to remember all the lyrics perfectly- good distraction 3) it always helps to let the technician know- they might roll their eyes but they may also try to be more gentle 4) deep breaths!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks for the tips, Jess! Have you ever tried listening to music over earbuds? I’ve been hearing that that helps as well.
Krista @ Tiny n Fit
Ha ha half a date! With needles- just don’t look at it when they poke you! Deep breaths! I used to be terrified- now I give blood on the regular! Those needles are bigger than the normal ones for physicals. You can do it!
Caitlyn@BareBalance
I have the same problem with drinking. I think I wake up 2-4 times (I know..) to pee in the middle of the night. Then, I can’t sleep. That, or I wake up hungry. Then I just lay there… it is nuts-o. Those bars look awesome!
Hahaha, the date thing made me giggle. Maybe something several-y distracted you, thereby causing you to leave that poor date half eaten.
I HATE anything involve bloodwork…. or needles. Ugh. I avoid that stuff… at.all.costs. Great post love!
Shannon
Those coffee flavors sound so great! But alas, I cannot drink coffee without the I-hate-you-mode kicking in instantly! But I bet they’d smell great… 🙂
I just finished my freshly crushed almond butter too- and then I get to work this morning and voila! There’s half a jar in the fridge I forgot I put in there for just-in-case situations 🙂 Sometimes I really love planning ahead!
Have a fab weekend! I’m headed to San Francisco! Cannot wait <3
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Eee! Have an absolute blast in San Francisco! I seriously love that city.
Leigha @ Minougirl
I drink water late everynight and every morning I regret it. Luckily It’s not too hard for me to fall back asleep! I want to try Justin’s SO, so bad. I’m missing out. Finding a random nut butter jar is the best!
Kim @ Racing Bananas
I totally cut myself off at night for drinking water – if I don’t I’ll be up all night (read: 3-5 times, total TMI) having to pee! It’s tough living with small bladder syndrome (self-diagnosed, of course!).
Erin @ The Almond Eater
Hmmm I try not to drink water 2 hours before bed, though I usually have a few sips right before I fall asleep. I used to get up to pee all the time but I don’t as much anymore. As far as my coffee, YES I savor it like crazy, and I only have one cup each day for the same reason. It is so, so good though.
Caitlin
Joe feels the same way about starbucks these days haha. He thinks a lot of their coffee tastes burnt these days and refuses to go there unless he has to. I don’t mind their tea so I still head there with the boys 😛 Have a blast on the slopes this weekend hun! And good luck with the bloodwork….I hate having it done too. I’m not afraid of needles, but any time I watch blood leave my body through them I pass out. You’d think I would just not watch, but I always do. Good times 😛
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right!?!? It’s the thought that my blood is being leeched out of me that gets to me the most. Eeep… now I’ve gone and worked myself up 😆
Amy @ Long Drive Journey
Yes to the drinking water thing. I don’t have a certain time, per se, but since I take medicine at night, I make sure that I take the medicine, drink water, THEN get ready for bed, and the last thing I do before bed is go to the bathroom. If I don’t do that, I will inevitably wake up, like you, and not be able to go to sleep again. Try it.
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
I’m still afraid to start drinking coffee due to risk of getting hooked. But that glazed donut flavor miiiiight just change my mind 😉
OMG- I’ve had the same issues with drinking too much water before going to bed, waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and then regretting it. I try to take little sips throughout the night, but then after brushing my teeth and going to the bathroom one last time, I try not to drink water unless I’m parched.
Haha! So funny that you found a lonely half date in your AB jar…I’m surprised I haven’t found dried figs in my Greek yogurt containers…yet. And gahh why do you keep going to all these gorgeous places without me?!
Chelsea
BAHAHAHA The date in your AB seriously made me laugh out loud. But only because I found a rice cracker in mine the other day 🙂
I hope you enjoy your last weekend of snowboarding!!! We closed up shop here last weekend. After which, we promptly got 4 inches of snow. Oh Spring.
Also. GL with the blood work. 🙂
Elise @ 9toFit.com
How have I not made those chewy granola bars yet?! FAIL i must get on that
Hilary
I so wish I had a kreuig now! That coconut mocha flavor sounds great! But I guess my chocolate peanut butter cookie will have to do for (it doesn’t taste like it sounds haha but still pretty good!). I haven’t had a starbucks drink in forever! I might have to venture over and get me one this weekend it sounds good but I’m sure I will experience the same thing!
I have to tell you I used to hate needles and getting my blood drawn too! Well lucky me ended up with a medication that forces me to get a blood test once a month, so I have learned some great tricks! I always sit down, take a breathe and just relax, then as the nurse is tying on that band just look in the opposite direction and focus on something else, heck even close your eyes if you have to, then you don’t even know its happening and bam! you’re done!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Keeping my fingers crossed that I can make that work. Have you ever tried listening to music through ear buds during the whole thing? I heard that really helps as well!
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
Hehe! Still laughing over you finding half a date in your nut butter jar! I would be so amazed too – not that there was half a date in there but that I had forgotten about it!
Major almond butter love, wish I could get jars that size in the UK. Ours are tiny!
TiffLovesweatandbeers
Needles, yikes! Maybe you can sneak in a chocolate glazed donut then whip it out when they draw blood. I bet it would take your mind off it!
lindsay
currently drinking coffee and trying to savor every drop!! don’t let it be gone! gah. and p.s. I used to work at starbucks way back in college, the cappuccinos are pretty hit or miss. depends on who makes it, the froth, the temperature of the milk, etc. I made a mean cappuccino. LOL!
Kim @FITsique
I am the same way, I would now much rather make my own coffee or get a drip then get the once “fancy” coffees I loved. I think because now I know all that milk hurts my stomach so much. I cannot drink water after 7:30p. That’s my cut off time, any later and I pee all night long!
Juli @ 1000lovelythings
I could cry every single time I take the last sip of my Starbucks Soy Latte. I have the same things with syrup coffee drinks. I dream of caramel macchiato or apple cinnamon latte but when I buy one every once in a while it’s too sweet, messes with my stomach and I don’t enjoy it at all. And than you even paid a fortune for it!
Regarding the water. The make-up artist who made me pretty for my wedding told me not to drink too much water in the evening as it makes your face look more bloated. Better drink more during the day and less in the evening.
Poor you for your reaction to needles! Though I am not sensitive at all I can give you advice that helped me in the past with coping with medical examinations. Look away, breath and think about cookies and coffee!
Have a great weekend, lovely!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks for the tips, Juli! Both with the water drinking and needles. Going to try them out 🙂
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
Yay for ordered the French toast coffee. The smell alone will capture you! I hate blood tests. The worst. In fact, I am known to faint during the test while still sitting.
Tina Muir
I am 1 million percent with you on the needles thing! I am absolutely terrified too! I was so proud of myself (and told about 5 people afterwards) that I did not cry for the first time last summer when I had bloodwork. It makes me feel dizzy thinking about them. You can do it 🙂
I also understand you with the water thing, I commonly get up to go pee 1-3 times in the night. it is hard as I want to be hydrated as one of the critical parts of keeping my training at a high level, but surely its not good to get up at night. I will be curious to see what you find here!
Brittany
Hahahah the half date in the AB jar is totally something I would do. I’ve put oatmeal in the fridge before without realizing it. I LOVE flavored coffee, but I always mix it with regular. I’m soo jealous of you snowboarding! I miss it 😀
Hollie
It’s funny you mention it. I actually try not to drink any water an hour before bed. I really hate to wake up multiple times to use the rest room at night.
I love my donuts. I could eat them for every meal but I guess that isn’t too appropriate.
Forgive me, what is a dry cappuccino? I know coffee expert and I can’t remember…I normally get the blonde roast at starbucks myself.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
A dry cappuccino is just a cappuccino with less steamed milk and more foam. I think the normal ratio is 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, and 1/3 foam… so a dry would be something like 1/3 espresso and 2/3 foam — it just makes the coffee flavour a lot stronger.
Kate @ Baking in Yoga Pants
I’m not sure why, but after reading this I really want some donuts…and granola bars… 🙂
I always have to go to the bathroom during the night because for some reason, I think it’s a good idea to have a full glass of water as soon as I get into bed. Someday I will learn.
Thanks for hosting the blogging party again this week!
Andddd Happy (Almost) Weekend!!
Jen @ SavedbytheKale
I feel your pain when it comes to coffee. I have gone back and forth between limiting myself to just one cup a day but currently I am at 2 cups because well one was just a little too sad!
I do have a few tips on getting blood drawn. I cannot tell you the times I have passed out after standing up from having it drawn. It is totally a mental thing for me. Shots I handle fine but drawing blood the needle has to hang out in your vein just a little too long! Anyway so now I always tell the nurse that I need to lie down while it is being drawn and I also ask them to talk to me so that I am distracted and not thinking about what is happening as much. (that really helps) I also stay lying down for a minute or 2 after they are done just to make sure I am feeling alright. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Laying down definitely helps. Have you tried plugging in earbuds and listening to loud music over your iPod? A few different people have told me that that works really well so I’m going to try it when I go.
Ksenija @ With An Open Mind
Oh girl, I hear ya on the crusty left-overs in nut butter jars. Used to hate them, but then I found out how to turn them into deliciousness: I just stir some melted coconut butter in. Heaven! Seriously, you should try this.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ll definitely be giving that a try! Thanks girl 😀
Megan @ Meg Go Run
I hate having my blood taken. 🙁 I used to give blood but had a bad experience once, so now I am scared. On time after that, one of my drs. wanted to draw blood but the nurse couldn’t find a vein and was fishing around for too long… I couldn’t take it so I said NO, no blood drawing today! I felt pretty bad ass, but hey, it is MY body. I did have surgery a few months ago and they drew blood for that but the nurse was a pro and it didn’t even hurt! I hope you have a really good nurse and it’s quick and painless, Amanda!!
Jessie
I just got to the bottom of my almond butter this morning & was left w/ all the crusties.. good thing I had another jar waiting for me in the back. I swear, we basically live the same lives in different countries. you wake up to go pee & cant go back to bed – me too… you have an apple pie smoothie -me too… and now this.. gosh we’d be best friends if we lived near each other LOL..
Although, I don’t mind getting blood taken at all. Maybe if you stare @ the needle while shes stabbing you it won’t be too bad? …or maybe not
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Oh my gosh I need to buy some of that Justin’s flavor because I still have not tried it!! I have no excuse since it’s sold at Target…maybe I just think Dave will make fun of me for buying something other than my usual Jif.
Aaaand with that I’m off to drink some coffee..and find a chocolate donut…I wonder why the sudden craving ha!
Lucie@FitSwissChick
I’ll be thinking of you when I ride down the slopes myself – heading there tomorrow night and can not wait!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Gah! Why can’t we be going to the same place?!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
i always cry when I get to my last sip of tea! I drink my mugs in like 1 minute flat so it never lasts long (even if that means I burn my mouth, haha!) :/
I’ve always got a stocked new nut butter that i keep unopened for emergencies! Hahaha, you can never be without, that would be horror!
For needles? Well I don;t mind them at all. I usually laugh when I get my blood taken haha! I think it tickles….which is weird. Except the last time I got my blood taken. Mind you I drank like 25oz an hour before and had just eaten, but the nurse could not get my blood to flow enough to fill the viles. She kept jabbing it in my arm and that time it hurt…a lot and I was left with a huge bruise 🙁
Ms.J
I think I need to get myself a chocolate glazed donut pronto. I forgot about that awesome-tastic recipe of yours!
And that could be why I do not dunk things in my nut butter jars…but heyy that half a date must be really happy after its rendezvous with ol’ Justin AB 😉 .
What seems to help with avoiding the inevitable concrete end of nut butters, is to purchase it earlier than you intend using, and store it upside-down until then. Then continue to store upside-down.
Ohhh yesss..I basically sleep-walked to the bathroom at some point last night – I suppose I need to quit the water awhile before bedtime too.
An “As we speak” post is kinda overdue you know 😉 …have fun in the mountains 🙂
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
Ok, so I’m trying really reeeeeeeally hard to feel some sympathy for you right now what with the needle phobia and all, but woman, you are KILLING ME with the coffee talk!! I’m sitting over here pining over your Starbucks, your K-cups, your cinnamon topped frothy goodness…my knees are weak! I WAAAAAAANT SOME COFFEEEEEEEE! Damn that doctor for taking away my one true love in life! 🙁 I’m going to go sulk in the corner now.
Oh and for what it’s worth, I usually stop drinking anything about 3-4 hours before bedtime…because I have that same problem. And I can’t have ANYTHING interfere with what little bit of precious z-time I can get! But I still want my friggin’ coffee! *grumble*
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Oh noes! No more coffee?? (I’m super behind on blog reading if you’ve already told the story behind this..)
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
I only just mentioned it the other day, but since I’ve been seeing a therapist for my insomnia, he advised me to switch to tea until we can get things straightened out with other stresses and such in my life…and you know what they say, you only want something more when you know you can’t have it! Haha!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Oh goodness I’m not sure if I could do that!! Sorry about your insomnia..working nights is rough. I’ve been trying to get my mom to switch to days (she’s a nurse) for YEARS now!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Whaaaat?! No coffee?! Is it because of the problems you’ve been having with sleep lately?
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
Yeah… 🙁 He said I should only drink tea because the “buzz” is less. I like tea, I really do, but it’s NOTHING when you want coffee! haha!
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Um… Okay so the keurig coffee flavours- I have those at home too. Thanks to me buying a keurig in America, hoarding it home, then breaking it as soon as I plug it into the socket because of the Australian VS American plug system. Fail. At least I know what to gift you when I visit…
I wouldn’t have been doing happy dances over the nut butter. I would be hitting my head with a spoon that you’d even forgotten that it was there.
Shashi @ RunninSrilankan
Justin’s AB IS the bestest! The only thing better is probably finding a full one you didn’t think you had in your pantry – score!!!! I have noticed that the price of Justin’s has been rising over here-so soon as I jump off the fence on either getting a Ninja or Cuisinart, am gonna have to replicate Justin’s at home! I have no clue about a cut off time for water – I know my mom limits her intake after round 7pm, but I am so sleep deprived, I can always manage to fall asleep! Here’s hoping you hit those slopes this weekend and enjoy yourself lady!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m starting to think that I’m going to have to find a way to replicate the maple flavour because I haven’t been able to find it ANYWHERE and my stash is definitely not going to last me until my next visit to the States!
Albizia
With all these amazing coffee flavours I wish I could drink coffee.
As for late night water drinking, can you fall asleep at all if you feel thirsty? I can’t.
