Thursday already? Say it ain’t so!
1. Hello, hello from gorgeous Hawaii!
Just checking in to say goodbye and let you guys know that I’m not coming back home. Take care, friends!
2. Juuuuuuust kidding… but oh how I wish I wasn’t. I love it here. I’ll share more deets of the things we did when I do my recaps, but for now I can say that even just hanging out at the resort has been a blast…
3. And the weather — ohhhh the weather! Can you believe that I legit forgot what it feels like to be outside for longer than 2 minutes at a time? It’s been ~24ΒΊC/75ΒΊF, which is apparently a little cold by their standards, but it feels amazing to me. Although I’m still getting used to their strange way of measuring the weather π
4. Unfortunately, I’ll have to go home eventually — I can’t leave poor Douglas to fend for himself…
I left him hanging out in a bowl of water, so hopefully he survives the week. I’ve already killed him a handful of times, and while I’ve always managed to revive him, I don’t know how many lives he has and I’d rather not push my luck.
5. Remember how I was complaining about airports, layovers, and the 6.5 hour flight I had to get through to get over here? It didn’t actually end up being that bad. The flight was a bit bumpy, but I still managed to catch a few hours of sleep at some point… and they had these mini tablets for rent, so I grabbed one of those and watched The Hobbit 2 (~3 hrs) and Gravity (1.5 hours). 6.5 hours down in the blink of an eye. I’ll take it.
6. Speaking of movies, lookit what I came across while browsing through some magazines I found in the airplane seat pocket…
Did you know they’re turning Gone Girl into a movie? Add this to the list of books-to-movies that I need to see.
7. Also, did you know that…
… because I had no idea π― I can almost spell out my name, but seeing as there’s no ‘D,’ I’d have to mod it to Aman’ai or something… which doesn’t sound too bad, actually.
8. Guess what I remembered to bring! My cinnamon shaker π
I wasn’t about to make the same mistake again after leaving it at home on my last trip, and my classy 6 AM hotel room breakfasts have been so much better as a result.
9. Another thing that’s been so much better? My skin and hair. I knew Alberta air was dry, but I didn’t realize how dry until I came here… I’m seriously running out of reasons to go back home… Mom, take care of Douglas.
10. Once again, you guys are going to have to forgive me for not being the best linkup host this week. I always try to comment on all the posts that link up with ToL, but Iβm not sure how Iβll manage it this time around since I’m not spending a lot of time on the computer while I’m away. Iβll do my best to catch up when I get back, thoughβ¦ I miss you guys!

Ang @ Nutty for Life
I love their weather system. That’s so funny! And ooooohmygosh I can’t wait for Gone Girl. There are a ton of great movies coming out that I want to see at the end of the year (but isn’t that always the case…). Just this am I saw the preview for the new “Annie.” It looks so adorable and hip and cool. Have a wonderful rest of your trip! xo
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
I’m not the biggest fan of Ben Affleck (damn him and his attempt at Daredevil…) so I’m reallllly hoping he doesn’t make this movie less than enjoyable for me, because I loved the book.
And ohmygod, I waaaaaaant warm weather. Snow, please go away. Or if someone wants to send me somewhere warm, that’s cool too :-p Preferably Hawaii, because those pics are gorgeous!
Emma @ Life's A Runner
You have seriously given me the Hawaii bug – I’m dreeeeaming about all the green now.
You shouldn’t feel too badly about coming home – it’s supposed to be PLUS SIX on Saturday! I know that doesn’t really compare to somewhere were +24 is “cold”, but I’ll take it. π
Enjoy the rest of your trip!
P.S. I can spell my name in Hawaiian. π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π I was actually checking the weather back home this morning and kind of did a happy dance when I saw that it was supposed to be +6 when I come home. Hopefully this means that winter is over and done with.
Shannon
WHAT BEAUTIFUL PICTURES! Wow, I am beyond-words jealous! Hawaii is such a glorious place, so glad you’re having a great time!
And good to hear that your hair and skin are doing better! The humidity must be amazing π
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne
I’ve been dying to see the Hobbit again (I’m obsessed with it and Lord of the Rings). Guess I’ll have to take some time from studying and watch it ;). And omg, I forgot how beautiful Hawaii is!!! I need to go ASAP NOW!!! Enjoy it as much as you can while you’re still there π
Sarah @pickyrunner
That resort is GORGEOUS! I cannot wait to hear all about it.Vacation recaps from pretty places are the best π
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
So jealous of your trip- soak in the sunshine as much as you can cause it sounds fabulous and you totally deserve it for putting up with your winters! I’m also super excited they’re making Gone Girl into a movie. I loved the book!
Ksenija @ With An Open Mind
Oh girl, that looks like a lovely trip! We are enjoying some beautiful sunshine here in France too these days and I seriously love it. Though, we are far away from hitting the 25Β°C mark π – no coconut in sight, but I am sure of that.
Amy@Long Drive Journey
Girl, don’t apologize! Just enjoy your trip and know that we’re all living vicariously through you!
Alex @ therunwithin
dude i struggle even to read this post because I am so darn jealous. the cold here is making it even worse. don’t me started on that beautiful scenery you have… we have mud. haha
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That’s what I’ll be dealing with in a couple of days too. Snow and grit. At least it’s almost spring π
Jo @ Living Mint Green
I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying your time on the garden isle. It’s finally starting to warm up here in Alberta. I saw a heard of elk yesterday. <— what you're missing here in Alberta.
Here's my Kauai wish list:
coffee
macadamia nuts
pineapples & bananas
a mango
a hot Hawaiian surfer
I have faith you'll deliver on my demands. π
Ashley
As I read this, my fingers are so cold they are numb. I’m so incredibly jealous! This extra cold, extra long winter is taking it’s toll on me. Maybe if I just keep looking at your photos…I’ll get warmer!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Believe me when I say I know -exactly- how you feel. That’s what’s waiting for me in a couple of days…
Tiff @ Love, Sweat & Beers
Fun fun fun! I wanna come to Hawaii!!! As for movies, I really want to see the Hobbit 2. I saw the first one, and that was the last flick I saw in a theater. Hmmm, was that two years ago??? We do dinner n’ a pub dates, not dinner n’ a movie. ha
Krista @ Tiny n Fit
Don’t be silly- have an awesome time in Hawaii! It looks SO beautiful! I don’t have a real desire to go (mainly the flight) but those pics may change my mind!
Tina Muir
Oh my god! First you went to Disney, now you are in Hawaii!! You are living the life! That sounds amazing! I have always wanted to go! I had no idea about the alphabet, I wonder why that is!
Its also interesting about your skin and hair. When i first moved to Philly, my skin broke out and I had so many pimples for about 6 months, until it adjusted. I think it must have been the pollution, which is disgusting to think about, but I guess thats a downside of living in a big city! Thanks for sharing, and hosting π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Eee yeah pollution is all sorts of nasty, but I think in this case it has more to do with the humidity than anything else. It’s SO humid here — like 92% or something crazy. Back home it’s like 35% π
Nichole
WOW!!!! Absolutely gorgeous!! I wouldn’t come back either if I were you!! Love all the pictures!!
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
I so know what you mean about your skin and hair – mine have been disgustingly dry! And I just heard on the radio that we shouldn’t expect spring weather until mid April… seriously?!!
Enjoy the rest of your time there! π
Andrea @ Pencils and Pancakes
Grrrr I kind of hate you….
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
I’ll move into your house and take care of Douglas for you! If that means I get your stash of bunnies and AB. π
I’m so happy to hear that you’re having a blast in Hawaii! Send some sunshine over here? And don’t forget to have some pineapple!
Hollie
It looks like an absolutely gorgeous place and I’m glad you are having a great time! You are seriously making me want to go to Hawaii now.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s one of those places that I think everyone needs to visit at least once — definitely like nowhere else I’ve ever been.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
The pictures are gorgeous and it looks amazing. For reals, I can almost imagine myself soaking up the sun and remembering what it feels like not to be freezing. Gah! Alright that’s totally your word, but since it’s a comment on your blog, it’s fitting. Have a GREAT, GREAT time, and I suspect I don’t even need to tell you that, much less say it twice, but I did.
I want to see the second Hobbit movie and Gone Girl; yes most definitely considered I devoured the book in like half a day. Actually it probably took me way longer, but it was still good.
Aloha!
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely
Gorgeous! Maybe you could spend your winter in Hawaii?? I’d certainly look into it if I were you. π
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
I’m so glad you’re having a blast. The pictures are gorgeous. I knew about Gone Girl becoming a movie, I just didn’t know when. I’m so excited and I think Ben will make a great lead man!!!
Megan @ Meg Go Run
I’m glad your traveling was all that bad and now you are in paradise! The pictures are gorgeous. I did not know about the alphabet thing because I am trying to learn how to see the names of places correctly for when we go! I go to the Trip Advisor Forums and they have “Destination experts” who live there that answer forum questions. I just love to go there and read all the questions and answers. I am not asking them about my itinerary though. They’re a bit snotty and whenever someone posts their itinerary for feedback, they always rip. it. to. shreds. !!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yeah I honestly always find it so hard to plan an itinerary based on the reviews of others because not everyone necessarily enjoys the same things. I’ve been to places that other people ranked super high which I didn’t care for, and vice versa. I kind of like just getting to where I’m supposed to go and going with the flow.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Geez girlie on vacation again?? Can we trade lives?? It looks GORGEOUS there!
Lucie@FitSwissChick
Oh myyyyy, it looks absolutely amazing there!!! Have a BLAST! The resort is beautiful.
We’re having temps up to 18Β°C currently and I can not complain at all. But I feel you on the improvement of hair and skin when on a warm ocean vacation – it’s amazin how they recvoer after only 2-3 days in the sun and with the salty/humid air.
Come back, PLEASE – or even better add on some flighthours (with mroe movies) and fly here!!
Liz S.
AHHHH that weather! Enjoy every moment of it for me, please. Freezing here.
Miss Polkadot
Bye, bye, Amanda – hello Amanβai.
Douglas, huh? Do you think there’s any chance I’ll be a better mum to my orchid if I name it? Thinking of which: how long has it been since I last watered it π― ?? Okay, yes, writing this on top of my priority list of things to do once I’m returning home after work.
Speaking of books-to-movies: I’m not sure if ‘The Book Thief’ has long been out in Canada – it’ll be at the movies over here starting next week, I think – but I’ve heard it’s by far not as good as the book so I likely won’t watch it. Aside from some Harry Potter movies π – and even when it comes to those I was disappointed at times – I’m usually not a fan of movie versions of books I enjoyed.
On a last note: I really need to book a flight to Hawaii. Now I just have to find somebody paying it …
Michael Anderson
Oh wow I love all of those pictures – and with the weather here in western NY dipping sub-zero again this morning … ugh, so jealous! π
But also so happy you have the opportunity for such an awesome vacation! Enjoy every moment (it seems you are).
Gone Girl movie isn’t getting as much press right now as Divergent or The Fault in Our Stars, but we are definitely looking forward to that one as well – I read it and passed it to my wife who also loved it, and we heard a Gillian Flynn interview just after we were both done so we’ve known about the movie since last July. Hopefully it is a good one!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars are both on my must-see list as well π
Cat
I was JUST saying the other day how it’s crazy Gone Girl isn’t a movie yet! Exciting. Very exciting. Hawaii looks so beautiful! Jeal π
Jan @ sprouts n squats
Your photos have seriously made me miss Hawaii so much. It is hands down my all time favourite holiday!
I enjoyed The Hobbit much more than I thought I would. Nick made me watch it, it was probably 30 minutes too long for me. Got to love Gravity though, even if it was a bit sad.
Enjoy your vacation and definitely try and unplug and unwind π
Shashi @ RunninSrilankan
I don’t think would have the strength to leave Hawaii – that’s why I haven’t visited yet! It is GORGEOUS! WOW! I had no idea that the Hawaiian alphabet had only 12 letters -that was my first new news nugget for the day! Yay on packing the cinnamon shaker – it’s the small things that bring so much joy! What did you think of Gravity?
Hoping time goes by in slow mo for yall while yall are enjoying Hawaii!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually really, really enjoyed it. I had a hard time believing that any movie could get a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it definitely lives up to the hype.
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Is Hawaii closer to Australia than Canada? If so maybe you should stay there….
That is also the most epic means of measuring the weather. Time to hunt down a coconut and hang it outside. I applaud you for finishing the hobbit. I would have rented one to use it as a sleeping pill π
