Thursdays make me smile π
1. A warning before we beginβ¦ Don’t ever (ever, ever) try mixing Puffins and Bunnies — just don’t do it. I somehow [accidentally?] ended up with one of each in my mouth at the same time the other day, and it was pretty much the beginning of the end for me. Holy.deliciousness. Aaaaaand now you’re going to try it just because I said not to, aren’t you? Wellβ¦ don’t say I didn’t warn you…
2. Since we’re on the topic of food, let’s talk about old-and-forgotten-but-recently-remembered food obsessions. First up? Coconut butter…
I used to adore this stuff, but after polishing off a jar forever ago and not bothering to replace it (don’t ask me whyβ¦), I kind of forgot about itβ¦ until a few days ago when I was in Homesense and came across a jar that was basically 50% off. Snatch — no second thoughts required. Since then I’ve been enjoying it on oats, toast, dates, and spoons.
3. Next up? Raisin Branβ¦
This obsession goes all the way back to when I was a kid. It was one of my favourite cereals growing up (along with Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Corn Pops, and Mini Wheats), but as with tonnes of other foods (besides oats, yogurt, bananas, almond butter, and chocolate), my obsession waxes and wanes. Currently, though? Definitely waxing⦠especially when a handful of chocolate chips just happen to innocently fall into the bowl.
4. Not on the foodie love list lately? Flavoured coffee. I used to be all about the fancy caramel/chocolate/ice cream flavours, but lately I’ve found myself craving plain old medium roast coffee…
And please don’t ask me why I put a used K-cup in a vase of twiggy things — I have no answer other than it seemed like a good idea at the time.
5. Another thing that seemed like a good idea at the time? Turning the bar counter in my kitchen into a stand-up desk.
I spend a lot of time working on the computer, which means I potentially spend a lot of time sitting down. After reading a few too many articles recently about the health hazards associated with too much sitting, I figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea to spend a little more time on my feet. I like it so far, with the exception of one tiny detail — I’m basically within 3 feet of my fridge and 5 feet of my pantry. No wonder my supply of dried fruit, cereal, and almond butter is disappearing at a faster-than-normal rate π―
6. At least I have this to kind of offset my munchies…
It’s a mini rebounder. I’ve had for years and years and years (read: 10+), but I left it at home when I moved out and it got banished to the abyss (read: the basement) and forgotten. I came across it [buried under a pile of winter coats] this past weekend, and decided it could use a new home — fingers crossed that the people living below me can’t hear me bouncing off the walls…
7. I’ve been losing sleep because of a book again. The culprit this time around?
Red Rising by Pierce Brown. I’m not going to do a full review here because this book is definitely going to end up in this month’s monthly favourites post, but I will say that if you’re a fan of The Hunger Games then you NEED to read this book. It.is.so.good. And I kind of have a crush on the main character. Now to find something to hold me over until the second and third books come out. Le sigh.

That spam cracked me up. Some of the spam I get always makes me laugh as some of it is just so weird.
I need to move my computer and do more standing too but our kitchen bench isn’t high enough for me to do it without crouching over with some terrible posture.

I’d never heard of Puffins until I read your post, but then of course saw them at the store and bought some…holy mess, how was I not eating these already!! haha I didn’t mix the two though, I took your warning seriously lol. Also I do the same thing when I’m working from home, my dresser serves as a standing desk!

I would love, love a stand up desk. Or one easily movable so that sometimes I can stand and sometimes I can sit. I really sit for wayyyy to long at work. Drives me crazy sometimes.

PLEASE let me know if the rebounder ends up being perfectly fine with your downstairs neighbors! My mom had one and I LOVED using it while watching TV. I’ve wanted to get one for awhile, but living on the 3rd floor of an apartment building has kept me from actually buying one.

Hi Taryn! I actually went down and asked my neighbours if they could hear anything, and they said they couldn’t. I live on the third floor as well, and I’m in a concrete building with my rebounder sitting on a carpeted floor. Most things I’ve read online said there shouldn’t be a problem, so I think you’re safe π

I work at the kitchen table to stand and sit, can totally vouch for it being bad on the snacking front..especially when you have invented a grab and go treat like puffins and bunnies!!!

Right there with you on the coffee. I used to love carmel macchiato flavored and chocolate donut K Cups but now? Plain, plain, plain (I’m actually sipping on the twiggy pictured K cup, sans the twigs). It’s weird how tastes change. And if someone told me last month I’d no longer be using Splenda or putting sugar in my coffee, I would have laughed in their face.
On another note, my old job had stand up desks and they were one of the best things EVER. I wish more companies would incorporate it.

I want a small trampoline, the only reason I hadn’t bought one already is the fact that I’ll be moving soon! mmmm coconut butter, I’ve ssen it at Marshalls, but haven’t bough it because I don’t know if I’ll like the taste. Maybe someday I’d try it, for now I stay with nut butters π

I sit all day at my desk, so I try to get up every so often, in part to stand up and in part to step away from work for a few minutes. I’ve been thinking of getting a ball chair. It’s apparent great for your core and balance. I’m just afraid I’d land on the floor more times than I’d care to.
Too bad you can’t bring the mini trampoline to blend. We could really bounce off the walls.

I actually sit on a stability ball when I’m working at my desk, and I have yet to wipe out so I think you’d be fine. It definitely helps me a lot with posture, but I was a little sore for the first week or so until I got used to it.

Raisin Bran used to be one of my favorite cereals! When I was younger, whenever we stayed at a hotel I’d pick up a few boxes at the breakfast buffet because neither my momma nor dad liked and refused to buy it at home. I still associate it with “travel breakfasts” π

I wish! You could always try using a gluten-free flakey cereal and tossing some raisins in. Are there any that are oat based? That would be good…

All I can do now is envision you bouncing off the walls in your apartment hahaha! It is a good idea though- it serves as an exercise break and solves the “too much sitting” problem. I always worry about that too so I break out into a dance every half an hour or so. Or, you know, I just get up and make a cup of tea. Depends on the day π

I’ve been liking plain coffee a lot lately too. I stemmed from me being sick of peppermint mocha creamer, but having no replacement and now I find myself making black espresso and being totally fine with it.
