Thursdays make me smile π
1. A warning before we beginβ¦ Don’t ever (ever, ever) try mixing Puffins and Bunnies — just don’t do it. I somehow [accidentally?] ended up with one of each in my mouth at the same time the other day, and it was pretty much the beginning of the end for me. Holy.deliciousness. Aaaaaand now you’re going to try it just because I said not to, aren’t you? Wellβ¦ don’t say I didn’t warn you…
2. Since we’re on the topic of food, let’s talk about old-and-forgotten-but-recently-remembered food obsessions. First up? Coconut butter…
I used to adore this stuff, but after polishing off a jar forever ago and not bothering to replace it (don’t ask me whyβ¦), I kind of forgot about itβ¦ until a few days ago when I was in Homesense and came across a jar that was basically 50% off. Snatch — no second thoughts required. Since then I’ve been enjoying it on oats, toast, dates, and spoons.
3. Next up? Raisin Branβ¦
This obsession goes all the way back to when I was a kid. It was one of my favourite cereals growing up (along with Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Corn Pops, and Mini Wheats), but as with tonnes of other foods (besides oats, yogurt, bananas, almond butter, and chocolate), my obsession waxes and wanes. Currently, though? Definitely waxing⦠especially when a handful of chocolate chips just happen to innocently fall into the bowl.
4. Not on the foodie love list lately? Flavoured coffee. I used to be all about the fancy caramel/chocolate/ice cream flavours, but lately I’ve found myself craving plain old medium roast coffee…
And please don’t ask me why I put a used K-cup in a vase of twiggy things — I have no answer other than it seemed like a good idea at the time.
5. Another thing that seemed like a good idea at the time? Turning the bar counter in my kitchen into a stand-up desk.
I spend a lot of time working on the computer, which means I potentially spend a lot of time sitting down. After reading a few too many articles recently about the health hazards associated with too much sitting, I figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea to spend a little more time on my feet. I like it so far, with the exception of one tiny detail — I’m basically within 3 feet of my fridge and 5 feet of my pantry. No wonder my supply of dried fruit, cereal, and almond butter is disappearing at a faster-than-normal rate π―
6. At least I have this to kind of offset my munchies…
It’s a mini rebounder. I’ve had for years and years and years (read: 10+), but I left it at home when I moved out and it got banished to the abyss (read: the basement) and forgotten. I came across it [buried under a pile of winter coats] this past weekend, and decided it could use a new home — fingers crossed that the people living below me can’t hear me bouncing off the walls…
7. I’ve been losing sleep because of a book again. The culprit this time around?
Red Rising by Pierce Brown. I’m not going to do a full review here because this book is definitely going to end up in this month’s monthly favourites post, but I will say that if you’re a fan of The Hunger Games then you NEED to read this book. It.is.so.good. And I kind of have a crush on the main character. Now to find something to hold me over until the second and third books come out. Le sigh.
8. Some spam makes me giggle big time…
9. As do some tweets…
… because that sounds totally legit π
10. And I’m pretty sure I say this every week, but I’m totally looking forward to reading your guys’ random thoughts. Happy Thursday! π

Glad you got your coconut butter fix again! LOVE that stuff!! I swear, you & I are on the same wavelength… so many of your thoughts make me feel like you’re in my head. I also had a love for Raisin Bran growing up & have recently been off the flavored coffee train. The last carrot cake flavored coffee I picked up has become a disappointment… it’s too light & too sweet. I’m much preferring a medium, smooth roast. It’s been even better making it Bulletproof style. π
morgan
last week was reading everyone’s plans/gripes about Hearts Day & got a horrible, out of control craving for sweets NOW! and being that I live in the sticks in Alaska had to make do with things I had, which was about half a cup of unsweetened coconut flakes. Tossed them in the vitamix with a dash of french vanilla stevia & viola- amazing! not as good as Artisan but in a pinch, perfection. thinking it would be really good with special dark cocoa powder next time…must buy more coconut… π
Bella
Puffins have been my downfall way too many times, but that combo does look good! (looking away now). I’m going to check out that book, because I’m always in the market for a great, new read. This is my first Thinking Out Loud post – thanks for letting me join in on the fun!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thank you for joining, Bella!
Courtney @RunningforCupcakes
Mmmm puffins and bunnies π What a perfect combo!
Tatum
that is TOO funny you moved your laptop onto your island!! I just read it on another girls blog that thats what she did.. such a good idea!!
don’t you love good finds at home sense!!
Lauren
I used to have a HUGE trampoline in my backyard which I loved so much… My dad decided to put it back farther in the woods and a tree fell on it. To this day, I think he was praying for when he moved it. Lol
The only flavored coffees I can tolerate are SOME pumpkin spiced and anything “mocha”. Everything else just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Give me the Brazilian, Guatemalan, and exotic country blends ANY day!
Heather Murphy
I sometimes use the kitchen counter-top as a stand- up desk but like you said, too close to where the food resides so I don’t even know if it’s worth it. Maybe if I face the other way!
Krista @ Tiny n Fit
I LOVE bunnies! I’ve actually eaten them as cereal before- toss some in a bowl and add vanilla almond milk. SO good! And naughty even? π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π I’ve done the same with gingersnaps before. And to be honest, the nutritional stats are preeeeeetty similar to something like Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Lucky Charms.
Phaedra @ Blisters and Black Toenails
Oh man, I LOVE that coconut butter!! I’ve tried to make my own but I don’t have the patience to let my food processor really mash that stuff down. It’s probably just as well since i have no self control. Something random? I’m going to sit in the lobby of my office and watch the women’s hockey final while eating my lunch. And I may even wrap myself in my leopard print snuggie as it’s cold down there, ha ha. π
Megan @ The Skinny-Life
I used to have a standup desk at work, but then they switched my cubicles and it would just be weird if I did it now in the area I’m in. The walls are too short. I acually miss standing. I try to remind myself to get up and walk around every 30-60 minutes. It’s tough though because you can easily get sucked into your computer & forget.
Sarah @ The Bookshelf Pirate
We are LOVING Red Rising at my bookshop. Recommending it left and right to people who need a smart dystopian fix to feed their addiction. Excited to read your thoughts upon finishing it!
I had to drag a shelf over by the woodstove at my house so I could stand up AND write AND stay warm. It’s actually surprisingly comfortable. But standing does require snacking… At least you’re being productive!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh it’s long done. I seriously LOVED it — couldn’t put it down. I was actually sad when I finished because I wanted more… and I have no idea when he’s going to come out with the next one π₯ May just have to read it again…
Brittany
Yay for standing while you work on the computer!! I switched to standing about a year ago and omggg I never want to sit again!! I actually feel really off if I am sitting while I work on the computer! My inner coffee purist LOVEs that you are onto the simplicity of medium roast. Pike is a great choice, and I love the picture with the twigs…go with it!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Haha, loving the Prize Patrol tweet! π My co-workers and I dressed up as the Prize Patrol team for Halloween last year. It. was. awesome.
Ashley @MilesonOats
That’s it! Rib crushing is taking place. Why? Because you just said “mini rebounder” = “trampoline”, which totally gives away your Canadian sassy-ness. Which tells me I am going ask you about word comparisons between the states and Maple Country. Be prepared. I probably should have warned you I am obsessed with the British culture and their variances of words. Like “chummy” = “friend”. So now that I know bad ass Canadians have em too’ , it’s on! π <3
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π I don’t know if we have THAT many different ones. We do call beanies “toques” though. And soda = pop. Also, we just spell things differently. Colour. Flavour. Neighbour. We like the extra U.
Diana @sosmallsostrong
I’ve never had coconut butter or bunnies. What a slacker I am!! I adore hunger games so this seems like a book I should get my hands on!! Thanks Amanda. π
Julie
I love a nice cup of regular coffee with stevia and some almond milk. That’s all I’ve ever drank because it wakes me up… and that’s the purpose of coffee right? I’ve grown a liking to the taste to.
I also use any high counter as a stand up desk. In fact, I bought a counter-height table for the new house for that sole reason!
Thanks for hosting Amanda!
Brianna
I have been using the Starbucks Caramel K-cups lately (until my Cinnabon ones arrive, that is), and those make a yummy cup of coffee too.
I’m loving the look of your kitchen π I use the little breakfast bar by mine as a stand up workspace too…when it isn’t covered in mail and randomness.,
karla @ finding my fit
i will have to try that book out! I think this weekend holds a lot of reading for me. nothing planned apart from a hockey game with the new man (or whatever he is to me..) and playing around with my new (to me) DSLR. I got the nikon d5100 for a killer deal. but have no idea where to start. time to play! π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Eee have the most amazing time experimenting with it! I’ve found that the best way to learn is to just throw it into manual mode, pick one thing to shoot, and change the setting between shots to see how the pictures change. Good luck!
Tonya@Healthy, Fit, and Frugal
I have a tendency to go on cereal obsessions myself. When I was a kid I couldn’t get enough of Life and Kix. Now I’m an oatmeal fanatic.
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
And now I’m going to try puffins and bunnies. Probably going to be another thing like kabocha that I should have never tried. I could eat it all the time! I have been so busy at work this week that I haven’t done much sitting, I kind of like it other than the blisters my work heels caused :/
Davida @ The Healthy Maven
Omg I’m picturing you jumping on the mini trampoline and it’s amazing!!! Can you bounce on it next time we Skype?! I was basically bouncing off the walls in our last convo. Which is how I am always…you’ll see when you visit me π
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I have a feeling I’d probably break something, but for you? I’ll risk it.
Rebecca Jo
I’m always afraid of flavored coffees after I read the ingredients
Lyric
Hkahjfdkj I want to try a jar of coconut butter so bad but I can’t find the darn stuff anywhere! Please don’t tell me to make it myself because trust me I tried but you need a high speed blender which I do not have. I do however have puffins… and bunny grahams… I think you may have just started another addiction. That trampoline looks like a blast and it may have inspired to put my big one to use.. Oh nope I lied.. just realized it’s covered in snow! I think I should just start assuming everything is covered in snow.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
I think I shouldn’t read your blog when I haven’t eaten breakfast yet…I am drooling over here. Also I already have waffles toasting, but now I want cereal!!
I totally do the switching from sitting to standing and the bar counter definitely works for that..but then you are in the kitchen working and that presents a whole different set of problems..like wanting to eat to avoid work or mix up a batch of cookies “really quick.”
I heart these link-ups! Don’t stop. π
Beth
what is your favorite flavor of Puffins? I had two jars of coconut butter for ions and have yet to open them. I had no idea what to put them on. I have read that it is good on sweet potatoes…but may just try putting it on toast or something. Raisin Bran was my favorite cereal as a child/teen. Haven’t had it in years since going gluten free. I miss it so! I would love to try the one with clusters. My email has been filled with spam lately. Don’t know what’s up. I love your blog so fricken much!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We only get the original, cinnamon, and PB puffins up here in Canadaland, and seeing as I can’t eat the PB and don’t find the original that interesting… cinnamon it is π And coconut butter is definitely amazing on sweet potatoes. It’s also great on toast with a little bit of honey and cinnamon. Ohhh I swoon for the stuff.
Ashley @ Married to the Game
I have to check out that book!
Andrea@pencilsandpancakes
You are hilarious. Yes, the time spent in the kitchen is directly correlated with how fast my snak foods run out as well. I have the same jaws of coconut butter disappearing fast.
cait @ pieceofcait
I looooooooove puffins! I now really want to try this delicious combo, thanks for the fair warning π
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
I’ve never tried coconut butter…it’s always so much more expensive than regular nut butters for me! And ew, raisin bran? You might have been the only kid in forever who liked that stuff. Raisins in general give me the creepy-crawlies…
Morganne @ NutButterRunner
Chocolate chips + raisin branβ¦lets call it a cereal trail mix!
I used to eat 4 bowls of Kix every morning growing up. Yep. That’s all I ate.
Coconut butter is definitely amazing. I tried it for the first time during this Whole 30 thing and whoa. Just whoa.
And now I really want a trampoline. Add that to the “fitness wish list” π
Cassie
I FOUND A JAR OF ARTISTANA COCONUT BUTTER AT HOMEGOODS (Is that the American version of HomeSense?) I totally bought it and I’ve been eating it on everything… including my Earnest Oats I also found there. And Raisin Bran is secretly my favorite cereal – especially the kind with the extra crunchies.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think it is the American version. And have you tried pairing coconut butter with honey on something like an english muffin or toast? I.die.
Kim @ FITsique
I got a good laugh from the K-cup in the plant! Lol. The things we do for a good looking picture. I didn’t even question it until you said something! Have a great day!
Miranda @ Loving Every Mile
It’s an accepted part of human nature that if you tell me NOT to do something, you better bet I’m going to π That combo sounds so, so good!
Ang @ Nutty for Life
Hahah I am dying at the donkey spam comment. I might use that phrase in the near future. I used to eat Raisin Bran all the time when I was a kid! I was the weird one who liked that stuff. Oddly, I didn’t start to like raisins until later in life, I would only eat them in raisin bran. I was just talking to my friend the other day about stand up desks. I know that I’m going to have at least a make shift one when I get a real job. Happy Thursday!!
elise
Ahhh a friend of mine on facebook the other day shared this video. It made me laugh and it seemed so appropriate to share this with you now! I hope the link works π
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=475343815905512
This is some intense jump action here. If you did that, your downstairs neighbors may hear you haha
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π I’m definitely not that enthusiastic about it. Maybe I’ve just been listening to the wrong kind of music…
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
Omg, YES! As if you hadn’t tempted me enough with those damn bunnies! I have to admit, I already know the deliciousness that is cereal mixed with crumbled graham crackers, but with chocolate and vanilla ones?! π― And I’m not a big fan of Puffins (the cereal, not the cute little birds), but I bet the Dulce De Leche Cheerios I just opened yesterday would be a good stand in! And you know, I really thought I was the only person who liked Raisin Bran as a kid…of course, I always added like a spoonful of sugar to it! π― And my mom wonders why I was always so hyper/jabbery! Haha! Give me all your flavored coffee! I’m STILL going strong on my little kick!
I’m noting that book, but if the others aren’t out yet, there’s no WAY I’m starting it…I hate having to wait!! And I literally LOL’d at that spammer! I may have to borrow that one sometime! π
