Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Not gonna lie. My brain does NOT feel up for stringing together coherent sentences this morning, and I’m feeling crabby for no reason other than indulging in a little crabbiness 😒 And if you’re wondering why I don’t just step away from the keyboard and wait for the mood to pass, it’s because I like to write my ToL posts throughout the day, starting in the morning and ending at night. Is that the most productive way? Probably not, but I just feel like it captures the whole randomness aspect a lot better since I’m literally writing whatever comes to mind at any given moment. The only thing on my mind right now, though, is coffee… so excuse me while I go caffeinate myself into a better mood.

2. Aaaaaaaaand we’re back! Back at the keyboard and back to our old peppy selves… or at least on our way there. And because I know you’re dying to know what I got up to while I was gone, I was obsessing over putting together new Facebook and Twitter cover pictures, since the last ones I uploaded were from way back in 2014, and I feel like my photography has changed a lot since then. I’ve really been loving the darker/moodier style, and I’m currently having all sorts of fun experimenting with shadows and contrasts.
Looks quite dashing, eh?
3. And speaking of photography, can we please talk about how obsessed I am with basically every.single photography surface from Erickson Wood Works?!? I’m 99.9% sure that I’m going to get one (possibly two), the question is… which one(s)?!?
4. Also obsessed with this remix of Trap Queen, and wondering how long it’ll be before I kill it by constantly playing it on repeat 😂 I give it another week at least.
[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmPm5iYOklg&w=640&h=427″]
5. Obsession #3 involves that Slither game I mentioned last week. Only I think I’m less obsessed with the game itself as I am with getting to #1 snake/worm/thing. The closest I’ve come is #3, and that was a long-ass battle so I don’t know if I have the patience for #1. Survey says: most likely NO.
6. Obsession #4 (how did I get on this road?!?!) involves baked potato fries. That’s really all I have to say about that.
7. Obsession #… I’m kidding. I’M KIDDING! I also forgot what I actually wanted to say, so give me a minute 🤔 Oh yeah! The other night, I walked into my bathroom some time before going to bed, and there was A FREAKING SPIDER just chilling right on top of the water in my toilet. And yes, he/she/it was very much alive. Let’s just say I’ve been using my other bathroom since then.
8. And on that wonderfully pleasant note…. Have a happy Thursday!!
Let’s chat!

Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I’m obsessed with baked potato fries as well right now. Good old russets are my favorite but sweet potato/yam ones are great also. I eat them with salads at least once per week.
Your food photography is stunning – I love the contrast and darker backgrounds!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I need to get back into sweet potatoes! Thanks for giving me dinner inspo for tonight 🙂
Beth @ Sublimely Fit
I find myself getting easily obsessed with really beautiful food photography, too! I don’t blog about recipes often, but every time I see a collection of really great food photography, I start to think that maybe I should start writing more food posts. Definitely inspirational!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s honestly not a bad passion to have! The worst part is trying not to eat the subject of your shoot 😛
Edye
Those fries look SO YUMMY!!! 😀
Ange // Cowgirl Runs
I was cranky yesterday, and I’m leaving on vacation today, so my brain just isn’t feeling anything right now.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Lol aww. I hope you have the best time on vacation!
Brie @ A Slice of Brie
Ugh, I can’t stand spiders! I would totally be using my other bathroom too if that happened to me! *shudder*
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
I love baking my own fries! So, so good. Have a great Thursday!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I once had a tarantula in my toilet. A spider would have been much easier to accept. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Terrifying. Thankfully, we don’t have those up here.
Bethany (Lulu)
Baked potato fries are the bomb. I’m obsessed with them too 😉
Emily Swanson
Wow, you cheer up so quickly Amanda. :o) I need to be more like that. And baked potato fries are really good. I love any kind of fry, smothered in ketchup. 😀 I also really love that darker, moodier style of photography. It really has a lot of depth and character to it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I definitely haven’t always been this way, Emily! I think what helped the most was regularly practicing gratitude and kind of realizing that bad moods are a waste of time. I know it sounds a little silly and simplistic, but it’s gotten to the point where being in a bad mood literally feels like a waste of life.
Jen Rawson, RD (@PrettyLilGrub)
I love making baked fries at home except it’s been way too hot lately to turn on my oven.
Patricia @Sweet and Strong
So I did a Fresh Start program that meant I could only have tea in the morning and let me tell you I was cranky and tried, like really tired. Definitely need my coffee to be full functioning! And OMG those boards! I am actually looking to learn more about photography and thought of going to a flooring or home improvement store to see if I could get a slab, but those are so beautiful!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yes! The thing I love most about nice backgrounds is that they make you actually want to shoot on them. The extra inspiration is totally worth it.
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass
There has been a big spider in the basement for WEEKS & I swear every time I go down there to do laundry the guy is bigger. Well the other day I went down and there is now a family of THREE. So, I got the shop vac & sucked those guys right up. Heart pounding all the way. And then still made the BF go down and put my laundry in the dryer. In case they crawled out & wanted revenge.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh man. I can’t deal with spiders in their webs. We used to have this old shed in our backyard when I was living with my parents, and that thing was spider HEAVEN. Like nests and everything. Eeee. Even just thinking about it gives me heebie jeebies.
Jessie @ Just Jessie
OMGOMGOMGOMG the spider?! Grosssssss. UGH. Now I’m going to have to inspect my toilet every time before I sit. Haha!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha! You and me both 😛
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
There was a giant dead bug on the floor the other morning and I told the Hubby we need to move. He then proceeded to tell me about a giant, very much alive, bug he found in the basement. He said it was unlike any bug he’s ever seen before, so yeah we’re creating new species of bugs over here. Yep, definitely time to move.
I’m thinking about starting a puzzle. Yes I realize this is connected to nothing in your post. I thought you’d appreciate it all the same.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You know I do <3 I miss puzzling. And that's legit creepy about the bugs. I might have to reconsider visiting 😛
Rachael @ Catch me if you can
I hate when I wake up in a funk like that glad you got rid of it though! That spider thing is one of my nightmares thank you x-files spiders do not belong in toilets!
Sarah @pickyrunner
My old roommates and I would scream if we saw bugs. Let alone a spider in the toilet. I’d freak. I make baked potato fries basically every night for dinner with my salad. So. Good. Especially when they get nice and crispy on the outside. Now I’m craving them and I just had breakfast ha
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
The spider thing! Once, there was one on the inside rim of my parents’ toilet (which I learned after it crawled down to the water), and I seriously checked every toilet for at least three months to make sure there were no spiders hanging out there. Not a fan of spiders. And I could totally go for some fries right now 🙂
Lyss
Ah spiders are the worsttt!! Baked potato fries are the best!! I had those last week for the first time and I’m hooked.
Jess @ Keeping It Real Food
Gotta love those sneaky critters. I was sitting at clinic yesterday eating a salad I’d brought for lunch and bit into what may or may not have been a bug. I chewed a little extra, swallowed. I must have had a weird look on my face, so I just shrugged and said to my colleague. “Hm. I think I just ate a bug. Extra protein, I guess.” What are you gonna do?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
One time I crunched on a beetle that was in some spinach lasagna that my mom made. I almost swallowed it, but then I’m like maaaaaaybe I should check just to make sure. And yeah… it was beetle-y.
Victoria @ Minus Thirty Three
Your baked fries look much better than mine ever do!
Oh, and loving the darker photography! High five!
Kat
Oh gosh I totally need to re-do my Facebook page! And I’ve heard of those boards but like you, I seriously just can’t decide! I think I would lean more towards a wood texture though, but thats personally because it’s my favorite 😉
And seriously a spider crawling up from the toilet is like one of my most irrational fears. I had ants in my toilet a few weeks ago and I was just like, really? You’re drowning – why on earth would you be in the toilet?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Rustic wood is so gorgeous, and I’m pretty sure that’s going to end up being one I pick. Also… ants. Omg. I’m lucky to be pretty high up so ants have no business in my place. Ladybugs, on the other hand, seem to love my balcony.
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
Those fries, though.. I’m on a candida cleanse right now so the sight of them makes me want to cry, ha! I live in the woods, so I feel like there is always some skeevy creepy crawly. You think I would get used to it/get over it but nooooope.
AmberLynn Pappas
The way you started this post is generally how I’ve been feeling each morning lately. :’-( I’m glad you were able to perk back up, have a great weekend!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ahhh those morning moods. Sending good vibes your way, AmberLynn!
Bri
Mmmm baked fries. I love your food photos, they pretty much should be in magazines!
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
Those photos are so pretty! I tend to shoot with all the light and all the colors, so I’m always intrigued by your beautiful dark photos! You are so talented!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That’s so sweet of you, Julie! Jut a lot of practice and tinkering 🙂
Emily @ My Healthyish Life
Ok, so I could totally go for those fries right now…at 8 a.m.
Leana
The other day I found two spiders in our basement bathroom! I had an empty container on hand and a bunch of paper towels and I relocated those guys well off property. But dealing with spiders is not my favourite thing to do!
And yes….all the coffee in the morning!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I panicked and flushed the sucker. I was afraid that if I walked away to look for a container, I’d come back and he’d be gone 😯
Sarah @ BucketListTummy
Aren’t baked fries the best? LOVEEEE them. All of those photography boards look amazinggg. May have to look into them.
Rachel
Ha!! So speaking of slither…! I was on my run yesterday and came across a curled up piece of red rope. It totally made me think of you and that giant snake you posted last week. 😂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hahah! Love that 😀
Hollie
I do not care for the spiders in the slightest. I would have panicked as well and probably walked right back out.
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
Spiders don’t bother me much but flying things kill me, especially bees. Especially when Adam’s gone and I have to kill them myself! And baked fries are awesome, I make them almost every day 🙂 Love the new FB cover, I’ll have to get around to doing mine. Also, I keep going back to look at plaster and cookie sheet!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Right?!?! Ugh I’m gonna just bite the bullet and get a few backgrounds. I always find that I get more inspired when I’m working with new stuff.
Jennifer
Hi Amanda! I’ve been reading your blog for a few years now and really enjoy it! You mentioned that you picked up the Renpure cleansing conditioner while browsing at the grocery store – have you seen good results with the product? I actually bought the same one after I saw you post about it, and was curious about your thoughts on the product. My hair definitely lasts longer in between washings, but based on reviews that I have read, I am using about 3x the amount that the directions say to use. I also kind of feel like my hair doesn’t feel as soft, it is kind of brittle? How many times a week do you use it? Do you also use any other products in your hair? Thanks!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hi Jennifer! I’d say I use anywhere from 20-30 pumps, so definitely a little more than the directions say; and I wash roughly 2 times a week. I did go through a period of time where my ends in particular were feeling a little brittle, but I found that focusing more on the ends instead of just my scalp really helped clear that up. That and sometimes I’ll switch out the Renpure with just a regular conditioner. The only other product I use on my hair is dry shampoo.
meredith @ cookie chrunicles
love baked fries! I must make them 5 days a week.
Chocolaterunsjudy
Ewww to the spider! When we lived in TX we had saw palmetto bugs. Think large, flying cockroaches. Sometimes they’d come crawling out of a drain — so disgusting! But I never saw one in the toilet & they don’t bite!
I think obviously right now I’m obsessed with the animals. And baking. Food wise, nothing comes to mind. It’s been too freaking hot & I’ve been too tired. I freaked my husband out by eating my (cooked) salmon cold several days after it was cooked. Obviously I survived just fine!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We don’t have cockroaches up here (thank goodness), and I figure that being obsessed with animals isn’t a bad thing 🙂 Sending good vibes to you and Bandit!
Katie
Anytime I kill a bug, even when I KNOW that I killed it, I flush it down the toilet and then flush said toilet about 3x just to be sure it’s gone but I have this major fear the thing is going to come back to life and show up exactly where you found yours…but for some reason that seems better than it coming back to life and crawling out of the garbage to find me while I’m sleeping. Bugs….gross.
Susie @ Suzlyfe
OMG I DO THE SAME THING. Like the thing is dead, but YOU KNOW there is a possibility that it will come back for revenge….
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
… or its family will come after you 😯
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yeah they’re definitely not my favourite either. I’m just glad that I live in a place where they’re not all that plentiful. The cold is good for something <3
Emily @ Out and About
Yikes on the spider! I have had that happen before where I was surprised by an unexpected visitor chilling out. I began using my other bathroom too. Blugh!
Baked potato fries… Yummy!!! I also love baked sweet potato fries!
I vot for the 5th Erickson surface. I like the classics and the wood paneling is timeless, in my opinion!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I definitely need a good wooden background so I’ll probably end up getting that one. Thanks Emily!
