Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. First things first. You guys need to check out the new gel couture polishes from Essie. NEED. Remember the one I tried out last week? That sucker stayed on for the entire week and only just started showing minimal signs of wear after 7 days… at which point I got bored of the colour and put on a new one…
Essie’s Make The Cut
… which I think I like even more than the first one.
But seriously. I adore this polish and I feel like I’ve finally found one that stays put without me having to baby it. Like… I was doing housework, dishes, putting together furniture, carting stuff around… and no chips. It makes me actually want to wear nail polish again since I know that the time and effort I spend putting it on won’t go to waste 30 minutes after I’m finished. Highly recommend checking this stuff out.
2. Also, no more wrist brace! My wrist doesn’t feel 100% back to normal just yet, but it’s close enough that I’m comfortable walking around without it on. I guess I really must have snapped something back into place while doing my hair last week 😳
3. Speaking of hair, I think it’s time to update you guys on the co-washing situation. It’s been about… 2 weeks, now?… and I’m still going strong and loving it for the most part. My hair has become noticeably smoother and more manageable since I started, and even my drier ends look like they’re starting to plump up a little bit. I was really worried that it would leave my hair looking greasy and flat since it’s so fine and straight, but the only thing I really noticed is that it feels slightly heavier in a moisturized/silky kind of way. Take a look:
Excuse the awkward selfie angle and baby hair sprouts, but yeah… I don’t think you’d really be able to tell that my hair hasn’t seen shampoo in a couple of weeks. I do use dry shampoo on it, but no more than I always have and it’s more to help with volume than anything else. I’ll update you guys in another couple of weeks. I Might even ask someone else to take a picture of my head 😂
4. Also… I know I need a haircut. It’s on the to-do list… And has been for the past 6 months.
5. Ok, so I updated you guys on the nail polish. The wrist. The hair. What else was there 🤔 Biking! I’m still doing my best to bike everywhere, although I had to put the breaks on it for a bit while my wrist healed up. It’s been nice to get back into it, even if it takes way longer to get anywhere and I’ll sometimes get hit with random freak rainstorms when I’m at the EXACT midway point between home and where I need to go. I’ve gotten drenched more times this summer than I care to admit.
6. I’ll admit that I didn’t bike to Ikea, though. I probably could have since it’s only 14km (~9mi) away and would have only taken me an hour according to Google Maps, but the route involves some crazy busy roads and I don’t trust the drivers in my city that much (read: at all). It’s probably a good thing too, since I ended up walking around in there for a good 3 hours, which would have made the entire trip take 5-6 if I biked.
7. I’ve also been using my car to indulge in something that I’ve loved since I learned how to drive – summer night cruises. It’s like therapy, and it never fails to make me feel better if I find myself stressed out or in a funk. Sights like this don’t hurt either…
And don’t worry… I was sitting at a stop light when I snapped that pic.
8. Alright, bye!… Kidding. Kind of. I’m going to end this here since the last few posts have been a little long, but I wanted to say that I hope you have an awesome day, and I’ll see you soon with some more food! 🍪

Jessie @ Just Jessie
so glad to hear your wrist is doing better! And I’m loving that Essie color! I swear, the only colors I have are pink, red or another version of a pinkish or reddish. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Haha that’s usually me too. Light pink or nude. This one is super though. Reminds me of a cozy sweater.
Jo @ Living Mint Green
I cannot wait to try that polish!!! I got a professional manicure yesterday and it’s already chipping. 🙁
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
Love all of this! I wish I could get out and do some scenic night cruises. That’s one of the things I miss most about living around woods and nature.
Mattie Dulka
That nail color is perfect! Definitely going to try those Essie polishes. I hardly ever paint my fingernails because I feel like it takes forever (when you include drying time) and mine seriously just chips the next day. I’m so curious about co-washing, but I have super fine hair and mine NEVER looks as good as yours does in that picture, even if I just washed it. Ha!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
This is seriously the first polish that I feel super confident with. AND it’s really quick and easy to put on too.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
My nails are out of control. I literally cut them down once, maybe even twice a week. It’s the prenatal vitamins which I have to keep taking so long as I’m nursing. I can’t even imagine trying to keep up with painting them in addition to trimming them and Ave’s which also grow like weeds.
Speaking of weeds, yardwork is my therapy. It’s on my to do list today although I still need to finish yesterday’s To Do list before I tackle todays. Oops. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m not huge on yard work, but I do love the smell of dirt 😆 I’d probably just end up playing in it though.
Tara @ Run and Live Happy
OMG! Thank you for sharing that nail polish! I am going to get some today! I never paint my nails because it takes me forever and then before anyone even sees them, I chip or smudge them. Yay!! Your hair looks great! I want to try co-washing. But I’m afraid it might make my scalp oily. Maybe I could shampoo the top and then just use conditioner on the bottom?? I might give it a try. I’m glad it’s working so well for you!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Definitely give the gel polish a try! I totally gave up on polish prior to this as well. And something I’ve heard people do is putting conditioner on first and then just a tiny bit of shampoo on your crown.
Ange // Cowgirl Runs
I went out and bought that polish yesterday!!
My nails chip TONS, so anything that will last 3 or 4 days is a winner in my books!
I started biking to work this week (okay, I did it once, but I plan to do more!) and I love it.
Rachel @ athleticavocado
okay I really need tot ry that nail polish because all of the brands I use chip within a matter of hours! Thanks for the recommendation!
Rachael @ Catch Me If You Can
that whole co-washing thing still sounds so crazy to me. cant wait to see how it does for you over the long haul. your hair doesnt look greasy at all! that sunset picture is so pretty. i love sunset/sunrise they make me feel so at peace especially when they are pretty ones like the one you saw!
Sarah @pickyrunner
I can never do my own nails without looking like a 4 year old did them. Yours always come out so good!! I am a big fan of Essie, I just usually have to get them done haha I’m with you on gel though- they last for SO much longer. Glad to hear your wrist is getting better again. I miss biking and need to invest in a city bike to get around town on. So much better than driving/public transportation.
Jen Rawson, RD (@PrettyLilGrub)
Running to buy that Essie polish now! Love that colour you have on too, what is it?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
This one is “Make the Cut”
Lyss
That nail polish is such a cute color! I love essie’s stuff. So glad your wrist is feeling a bit better, that is such a relief! Have a great day Amanda!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You too, Lyss! Happy Friday-eve 🙂
Alaina @ thesimplepeach
So glad you like the Essie polishes. I will have to give them a try now that I know you like them. Usually when I talk to people about this stuff they aren’t washing dishes or doing any housework. I will now be jumping over to read about your co-washing. Happy almost Friday Amanda!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Happy Friday-eve to you as well, Alaina 🙂
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I love the color of that nail polish! I used to wear a regular essie shade like that. It goes with everything!
Co-washing is something I considered for my hair but wasn’t sure what product to use. Your hair is so healthy and pretty!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Thanks Laura! Right now I’m just using the regular conditioner I was using prior to this because I didn’t want to invest in something if I wasn’t sure I was going to like it, but I might look into a conditioner specifically designed for co-washing.
Bethany (Lulu)
Your hair looks gorgeous! I nay need to try out this co-washing!
Michelle @ LivelyChicken
Ugh, I have also been putting off getting a hair cut for months too. I just can’t decide how much I want to get cut off. I guess I could just get a trim for now…
Glad to hear your wrist is feeling better! And that the nail polish lasted all week! What is your new color called? I love it!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
A trim is what I need too. I always go in with high hopes to do something fun and new, but then chicken out. And the polish is called Make the Cut.
Rebecca
I have to try that new Essie nailpolish. My biggest beef with most nailpolishes is that they chip so easily.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That was definitely my biggest problem, which is why I stopped wearing polishes for a long time prior to this.
Gretchen
Your hair looks great! And I love that shade of polish. Got to love gel polishes that work!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Co-washing is officially on my radar, and your hair is gorgeous! I haven’t done it much this summer, but I love sunset drives, too. Actually, I love driving on country-ish roads no matter what time of day it is. Music up, windows down 🙂
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
I’m an SO happy co-washing is working well for you! I’m on a mission to force everyone I know to try it since it worked so well for me 😉 And I can’t wait to go get that polish!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Reading your post was actually what introduced me to it but I was a little iffy since it’s not typically recommended for people with fine hair. I dunno. Mine’s been good so far!
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
I need to get that nail polish and I cringe looking at my messy, wonky nails!
Your hair looks great– great promotion for co-washing!
Kat
Ok, ok fine! You don’t have to twist my arm – I’ll buy the dang Essie gel polish! 😉 I’ve been waiting to hear how well that stuff holds up, so thanks for the update. I’ll have to check out the summer colors!
Elizabeth
Co-washing… I think I might have to try it! My hair, for being fine and smooth, is stupidly unmanageable some days. I could do with a little (LOT) more volume, too… 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Never hurts to give it a try! You could also try putting conditioner on first and then just a tiny bit of shampoo on your crown.
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I definitely need to try that nail polish! Mine always cracks after just a day or two so I don’t bother earring it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That was me too, but this polish has been a complete game changer.
Unsigned, Me
Finally – I’m going to invest in Essie and see how it goes. Secondly, I’ve been co-washing for at least half a year now and love it. I recommend As I Am Coconut Conditioning Cowash because it’s amazing!
Love this post and following x
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I was thinking about looking into a conditioner designed specifically for co-washing, so thank you for the recommendation!
GiselleR @ Diary of an ExSloth
That nailpolish looks amazing! I usually only grow/paint my nails in the fall or winter because I get bored with all those darkness and have time to reapply polish multiple times a week lol But I may have to make an exception this summer with those gel polishes.
Also, I’ve started walking almost everywhere. Definitely not as fast as biking but I’m terrified of biking on the roads and I don’t own a bike anyway…
Happy Thursday 😀
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Biking on the roads is definitely scary, which is why I hop on the sidewalk whenever I have a chance 😆 And I gave up on polish before this stuff too. This is actually a pleasure to use though.
Catherine @ foodiecology
i need to try that polish! My nails chip after 1 day, 2 if I’m lucky 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That used to always be me as well, which is a big reason why I stopped painting them. This polish I actually want to use though.
Happy Fit Mama (@happyfitmama)
Ok, this co-washing thing has me very interested! And driving on summer nights with the sun going down – awesome! I can’t do it as much with the kiddos now.
Rachel
You’ve convinced me. I’m going to start co-washing when I get back from vaca.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Never hurts to give it a shot! You might have to give it some time to let your hair adjust though.
Courtney
Your hair looks so pretty! t certainly looks like the co-washing is working out for you so far!
You’ve sold me on that nail polish– it sounds amazing.
Have a great day!
SuzLyfe
Oh, how I miss driving around Virginia at night, just listening to music. You don’t really get the same effect here in Chciago! And if you had managed to bike to Ikea, and then bike home with one of those massive bags… well, that would have been true talent. But he car is very much understood.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Windows down, music up… perfection 🙂 At least Chicago is super pretty. We really have nothing else going for us over here 😆
Hollie
I’ve biked a few times myself (to and from work, etc). Your hair is so gorgeous. I was just thinking I needed to get my hair done and you’ve motivated me to do so!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Now hopefully I can motivate myself to do the same 😆
Michele @paleorunningmomma
I am envious of your straight hair! With the humidity here even a flatiron won’t get mine like yours. Summer is rough! Love the pictures from your drive, nothing looks like that near me and we still have traffic around here that late.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think that’s part of the reason why I love going out so late – no traffic. It used to be completely empty here a handful of years back but lately we’ve been getting more and more people 😕
Chocolaterunsjudy
You have beautiful hair! Mine is in sad need of a cut, took but I could never go that long between them.
Glad your wrist is better! Stuff like that drags on forever for me! I still haven’t tried those chocolate pancakes – they might just be dinner tomorrow!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Honestly, I probably shouldn’t be going this long without a cut either… I’ve just been lazy 😳
Katie
I LOVE that nail color! I’m all about the lighter shades like that!
meredith @ cookie chrunicles
and I am still impressed you can do your own nails so well! I have seen the new Essie gels, do they weaken your nails like other gel when removed? I have never done gel because I don’t want to mess with my nails, I just always get a light pink on the fingers so I don’t ever notice a chip lol
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I mean, I haven’t been using them for long enough to really see if they do anything to my nails, but I’ll keep an eye out. You just take them off with regular remover, so I don’t think so?
Linda @ the fitty
Beautiful nails you’ve got there!
