Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Oh hi! So I totally missed you guys yesterday, and while I had every intention of putting up a June Favourites post, I got the first phase of edits back for my manuscript and spent most of the day with my eyeballs glazing over glued to those. I mean, I probably could have pumped out the post too, buuuuuuuut sanity would have severely been compromise at that point. I’ll still squeeze that post in somewhere, though, because it’s been way too long since I’ve done one and I have some things I’ve been loving that I really want to talk about. I debated putting them in this post, but there’s too much other life stuff I want to talk about.
2. Like the fact that I’m enjoying a lovely case of [what’s probably] tendonitis. So what happened is that I somehow tweaked my left wrist on a particularly rough trail ride a while back, and I didn’t think anything of it until 3.5 weeks later when it wasn’t showing any signs of improvement. It’s not horrible or constant pain, and mostly only comes in acute bursts when I hold my thumb in certain positions. I went to the doctor a few days ago just to get it checked out, and he said it’s most likely not broken (phew) and should heal up on its own as long as I let it rest… but he’s sending me for an X-ray and ultrasound “just in case.” Unfortunately, the soonest appointment I could get for an ultrasound is a month from now, so I’ll just be over here rocking my stylish tensor bandage until then.
3. [Edited to add] – sooooo I was putting my hair up in a ponytail (this is much later in the day), and I think I may have just fixed my wrist 😳 You know how I said that it mostly hurts when I hold my thumb in certain positions? Well, you ladies know that anything hair-styling-related involves a lot of hand/wrist work, and I haphazardly twisted mine “just so,” experienced a few seconds of really bad pain paired with the feeling that my tendons were catching on something, snapping, and/or grating up against each other, and then… nothing. No more pain, even when I move my thumb 😳 I mean, it’s still a tiny bit sore, but nothing like it was before. I think I’ll keep rocking my tensor bandage for a few more days, just to be sure, but… just call me Dr. Spoons.
4. Have you guys seen the new gel couture polishes from Essie? I haven’t painted my nails in… forever… but I spied them looking all new and shiny on their fancy display case while I was picking up a new bottle of foundation, and that was all the convincing I needed. I mean, obviously the idea of a super shiny, long-lasting gel polish that doesn’t require any UV light to set sounds appealing, but I haven’t tried it on my nails just yet, so I don’t know how legit that claim is. I’ll let you guys know when I test it out. Probably next ToL.
Spool Me Over and the clear top coat.
5. Aww heck. Let’s do it now. Hold on…
Okay! First impressions – I’m really impressed. Essie finally changed the shape of their brushes, making them slightly wider and tapered at the end to match the shape of your nail bed. The actual formula is really easy to work with, giving a smooth and even application that goes completely opaque with just 2 coats. It also dries really fast so you’re not sitting there waving your hands around for 15 minutes while you suddenly have to pee and do ALL the things. AND it feels soft and gel-like, which I’m hoping means it’ll be less prone to chipping. The clear top coat, though… it may be the best one I’ve ever used. It’s luxuriously thick without being sticky and hard to work with, and it’s got some killer shine. Now all that’s left to be seen is the longevity, but either way, I love the formula and shine enough that I’m going to pick up some more colours.
6. Has anyone else noticed that the mosquitos situation seems to be a little out of hand this year? They don’t normally bug me too much, but for some reason, they seem to be extra thirsty this summer. And the worst part is that they’ve turned into some kind of psychotic super bugs… Like, they’re even biting me through my clothes, and I’ve got a couple of bites on the front of my neck (!!!!!), which takes the whole bloodsucker thing to a whole new level. Also, Google “mosquito memes” and look at the images if you want some good laughs…

7. Do you ever find yourself standing in line behind someone (or, even worse, sitting behind someone) and really having to fight the urge to pick a loose hair off the back of their shirt? Actually, do you fight the urge at all or just silently pick the hair off? Because I was standing in line in Bux the other day and there was a very blonde lady in front of me with a very long blonde hair stuck to her very black shirt. Like… it was RIGHT THERE. I didn’t want to be a creeper so I kept my hands to myself, but I was SO tempted and I’m thinking maybe I should have tried to grab it without her noticing. Decisions, decisions 🤔
8. Speaking of Bux, this may be the first week in a month or so where I don’t have any crazy nicknames to report. That means they’ve spelled my name right a whopping 5 times in a row, which means they’re probably plotting something especially diabolical for the next time.
9. And that’s it for me today, friendly faces! I hope you have an awesome day and I’ll see you… possibly tomorrow if I can get my favourites together. Bye!

Ahhaha Dr. Spoons way to go!! I keep trying to “fix” the pinched nerve at the base of my neck but no such luck yet. That nail polish looks laaveely on you!
Hannah Elizabeth
Seriously, lol-ing over Starbuck’s scheming over your next potential nickname. And that mosquito meme! 😄 It reminded me of this post I read earlier this week: https://morethanivebeen.wordpress.com/2016/06/27/vampires-are-real-and-heres-why/ salon pricing. 😁
Hannah Elizabeth
I don’t know why the entirety of my comment was erased except for the beginning and end, but here was the middle part (starting from after the link):
I haven’t been bitten that much this year, but it does seem unfair that the times I have has been when the weather has been dreary and unseasonably cold.
I’m so glad it seems you’ve got the possible tendinitis problem under control! I’ve had tendinitis multiple times, and it is literally a pain in the backside.
You have me super-curious now about the Esse gel polish. I’ve really wanted to try gel sometime, but -> salon pricing. 😁
Sor for the double comment…so weird!
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
You should have just picked the hair off, lol! I constantly have loose hairs all over me and I would have appreciated it. 🙂
I hope your wrist fix is permanent! Having an injury like that sucks, especially when you have to use your hands so much for your job.
I haven’t seen those new Essie polishes yet but the bottle is super attractive. Sounds like Target is calling my name! 😉
Sara @ saralouyoga
ugh…tendonitis! I hope that heals quickly…I’ve had tendonitis before and I found that my yoga practice helped me to strengthen and stretch them…as long as I didn’t overdo the typing on the same day…
good luck! xo
Joyce @ The Hungry Caterpillar
Oh noes! I hope your wrist is indeed fixed and that you didn’t just go super-numb. Those of us who work on computers put a lot of pressure on our wrists and hands.
Hair doesn’t really bother me. It just…doesn’t. Not on shirts or sweaters or couches or shower drains. Like, yeah, if I had company over, I’d definitely pick it up. But it almost bothers me more when people freak out about it. I’m like, calm down people. It’s just hair. It’s literally harmless. 😛
Then again, we all have our pet peeves.
Meagan @ My Life as Mrs
I probably only would have gone for the hair if I could remove it without her feeling/noticing. I’ve done that before. I’m excited to try the new Essie polishes and I’m so glad to hear they’ve changed the brush because they really weren’t that great. I’ll have to pick up a couple new colors soon!
Jo @ Living Mint Green
YES than you for being my #1 trusted makeup reviewer. I can’t wait to pick up that Essie polish! Weeee
Also? LOL about your wrist. Let’s hope you fixed it yourself! Hahaha
Melissa
Ugh – yes to the mosiquitoes! I’m a mosquito magnet it seems but now that I’m finally not pregnant anymore (as of last week!) I don’t mind as much. No more fear of Zika 🙂 (is it ironic I’ve gotten bit more in the US than when I was inMexico in Jan?) I love gel polish from the salon, but hate when it starts to peel off because I’m too lazy ot get it to be taken off by them. I’ve never bought it from the store though….
Ange // Cowgirl Runs
I FINALLY found base coast that helps polish stay on my nails so I really think I’ll need to try out th enew essie polishes. And? The bottle is SUPER pretty, too!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
Bugs seem to have stopped biting me (knock on wood). My husband will go out with me and they devour him alive and I’m just like “what bugs?” Maybe it means I’m diseased and they don’t want my blood haha
Jen Rawson, RD (@PrettyLilGrub)
I almost bought that essie polish the other day but I’m going to wait and see how yours hold up before pulling the trigger.
Laura
I hope you did fix your wrist. It’s always quite satisfying (after the initial pain) when you accidentally do something like that. Also, I’m with you on the hair. I’m forever picking hairs (human and feline) off my fiancé’s clothes, but I sometimes get the urge to do it to strangers or colleagues and have to remind myself that I really shouldn’t!
Jessie @ Just Jessie
My blog post today ALSO includes a wrist injury and coffee! ha! I’m glad you might have fixed your issue, though! And I love that Essie packaging.
heather @Lunging Through Life
Let us know how that polish lasts. I bought this other brand of gel polish and 2 days later it chipped.. womp womp. Hopefully your wrist feels better and you can cancel that ultrasound. Not only for the extra expense, but a month from now?! Come onnnn!
Dana
Hope your wrist gets better! I had tendinitis of the thumb a few years ago. My doctor actually made a special wrist brace for me that molded around my thumb to keep it from moving at all. It was rough because I could never train myself to use my left thumb to hit the space bar.
Leana
I’m intrigued by the Essie gel polish. Your nails look great! I love the longevity of gel polish but I’m not a fan of the UV light and my nails are always in rough shape even after just one application.
Sorry to hear about the tendinitis!
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
OKAY SO I’m so excited to hear about those Essie polishes – Essie is the only polish that stays longer than a day for me, but even so between typing and babies my nails chip so fast. I used to literally paint my nails every other day ( crazy nail art and all) and then I got a life (ha!) but I do miss having pretty nails.
Sarah @pickyrunner
Hopefully putting your hair up fixed your wrist for good! I’ve totally done that before. I hate doctors though so I usually put it off until it’s wayyyyy too late. I haven’t noticed any mosquitos in the city and my parents had our backyard sprayed at home so this is one of the first summers in awhile that I hopefully won’t be scratching my arms and legs constantly.
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I hope your wrist feels better soon! At least your nails are pretty! I don’t paint my nails often anymore because they chip so much when I do.
Kat
Those gel polishes have me super intrigued now! I’ve been wanting to buy some gel polish [AFTER my big project, I wash too many dishes per day right now for any polish to last!] but haven’t been able to decide on a brand. Keep me updated on the durability, please? 🙂 No bothersome mosquitos yet, but we are battling ants like crazy this year. Seriously, we can’t keep them out of the house, but there isn’t trails of them, just random ones scattered about. How do we fight that? Literally, they are in my bathroom! What kind of ants hang out in the bathroom? lol
Emily Swanson
That gel nail polish is really pretty. I’m weird, and I don’t normally like doing nail polish, but yours is gorgeous. Hey, and that would be neat if you were able to tweak your wrist back into place with doing your hair. 🙂 Also, it’s weird, because this year in Colorado, the mosquitoes are usually a lot worse, but I haven’t gotten any bites this year. O_o I’m thankful that that’s the case, but if they do come, they come. 🙂 That’s crazy that they’re biting you through your clothes. Do you have really big mosquitoes?
Yay for Starbucks getting your name right! 🙂
Bri
Oh I need to find that polish! I get gels done and love them, but not the expense 😑 I’m also covered in mosquito bites, and we have s ton hiding in our house that eat me alive at night!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
Ooh I’d be interested in how the gel comes off. When I get “real” gel manicures and then get them removed, it totally rips up my nails. I’d be sold on this stuff if it removes like normal nail polish – keep us posted 🙂 And I hope you really did fix your wrist! Sometimes all it takes to fix a tweak is, well, another random tweak 😛
Heather @ Polyglot Jot
Yes I ALWAYS want to pick fuzzies or loose hair off of the back of people’s shirts! I feel like a grooming monkey or something!
Also, the mosquitoes in PA have been really really bad too. i have like 2483498 bug bites on my arms and legs and even one on the side of my foot! It’s killer!
Michelle @ LivelyChicken
Hope your wrist continues to feel better! Can’t wait to hear if the nail polish lasts longer than usual. I have a new regular Essie polish which has been on my toes for two weeks now without a single chip. Obviously toes don’t chip as much as fingernails but I’m still impressed. Usually polish only stays on my toes if I go to the salon and get a real pedicure.
Amanda @ Real Life Recovery Diary
New Essie nail polish?!? My bank account is not happy with you right now because I know exactly where I’m heading after work 🙂 I love the color you chose too! Hope your wrist gets better… those kinds of injuries are never fun, especially in summer!
Sarah @SarahRuns26
I sit in staff meetings at work and wonder if my boss will notice/care if I start picking hairs off her shirt. Like, is it unprofessional if I start doing that? She’s young, so I don’t think she’d care, but then I start to wonder about my office mates who are also in the meeting and what they would thing. Then I just assume I’m overthinking it and keep my hands to myself. So yes, I run into that problem once a week, minimum 😉
I’m allergic to mosquitoes. My bites just get really swollen and hard and super itchy (I can’t say for sure if the itchy-ness is actually worse because I’m allergic or if its that same for everyone else), but they seem extra bad this year, and I’m getting bites through my clothes too. Is summer over yet?
Glad you fixed your wrist, hopefully nothing else is wrong with it and it doesn’t start hurting again! I always tell my husband about something that’s hurting/bugging me, then as soon as I vocalize it, it stops. So then he thinks it’s all in my head. Of course.
Kate
You’re making that splint look stylish with those nails! I never ever do my nails but I have such nail envy when I see other people’s nails looking so pretty! Maybe I’ll do mine today.
Catherine @ foodiecology
Oh no, I hope your wrist gets better soon! That’s no fun.
And, yes, the mosquitoes are AWFUL where I live. We’re on the Gulf Coast, so I’m always scared of zika. We can barely sod evenings in our backyard because of the darn things! Ugh.
Courtney
I hope your wrist stays fixed– and you can’t beat that story: tendonitis cured by ponytail! 🙂
Have a wonderful day!
Rachel
Oh girl, I know how that goes with the achy wrist yet needing to put your hair up… The worst!
I so rarely paint my nails that I’ve never tried gels. Give me old school polish that chips in a day and I’m good. 😂
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I wish I could keep nail polish on my nails longer than two seconds. It seems like it always chips or cracks right away and with as much as I cook it makes it worst. Hope your wrist gets better! I had tendinitis in my elbow for a few months and then poof one day it was just magically better.
Alicia
How annoying about the tendonitis in your wrist. I actually went to a foot doctor last week and apparently have tendonitis in my foot, which is what I am talking about on my blog today. Workouts have slowed down but doing what I can and seems to be improving, just a slow process. That nail polish sounds good. I recently got Sally Hansen Miracle Gel and it is really fast to dry and it stayed on my nails pretty well for over 2 days (an accomplishment for me since I pick and bite at my nails).
SuzLyfe
I’m dealing with some tendonitis as well, but in my foot. I hope mine fixes itself! Speaking of starbucks name goofs, I was reading an article a few weeks back talking about how previously, it was kind of annoying for people with particularly hard name (as well as those of us with normal names) to get our names correctly spelled on the orders. But now, with the new apps, the misspellings happen less and less, and people miss them! Damned if you do…
Hollie
Oh geez, sorry to hear and the wrist. I feel like a lot of things are done through the wrist. I hope you’re able to see some sort of healing before then. Any progress is good.
Michele @ Paleorunningmomma
I really hope you did fix your wrist – if not, the wrap should help 🙂 I can’t figure out if mosquitos are worse this year or if I’m just spending more time outside, but I’ve noticed it here. Also, your nails are so pretty! I’m a nail biter so lots of respect lol 🙂
Chocolaterunsjudy
I’ve tried Sally Hansen’s gel polish & I love that it dries quickly – but it doesn’t last any longer than regular polish. For me. Funny, I was just thinking I should do my nails before they break. My problem is the remover — it kills my nails. But I have a new one to try.
Sorry about your thumb, but that is totally weird what happened with your hair. I’m prone to tendinitis just about everywhere. Hope that really worked!
Thankfully there aren’t a lot of Mosquitos here, because they love me. It was horrible when we lived in TX. I could barely go out in the summer!
