Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Can’t stop, won’t stop! The banana ice cream obsession continues, only this time with cocoa powder and cacao nibs for a double dose of chocolate and some crunch <- 🔑. I ran out of raspberries or there would have been some of those guys hanging out in there too…
2. Speaking of banana ice cream… and chocolate… and raspberries… have your eyeballs seen the banana ice cream breakfast parfait I posted yesterday? Because it’s kind of the perfect addition to your summer breakfast rotation seeing as it’s nice and cool and super easy to make. Not to mention nutritious and delicious. Just saying.
3. So I think the barista had a little finger slip up while taking my order the other day…
Just call me Q-manda 💁🏻 Or “Quanda” as another barista called out when my drink was ready. But, really… call me whatever you want as long as you feed me coffee.
4. And while we’re talking typos… I’ve been making more than my fair share of them recently too, and I 100% blame it on the fact that my nails are getting way too long, which makes typing super awkward. I also can’t get cream out of a jar without getting a tonne of it stuck under my nail, and I’m a little paranoid about gouging my eyeballs out whenever I handle my contacts. I’m thinking it might be time to cut them.
5. That being said, the sound of nails being clipped has got to be one of my least favourite sounds in the world. It ranks right up there with loud chewing/swallowing and listening to people be judgmental/hypocritical. Don’t do that sh*t around me! 😡
6. DO feel free to follow me on Snapchat where I’m constantly showing off my productivity #skillz, though 😂
(username: runningspoons)
7. And on Pinterest where I spent a good hour tinkering with the covers of my boards…
BUT! Pinterest is kind of part of my job, and presentation is important, so I was basically working 😜
8. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I’m still biking [almost] everywhere… even if it’s only to the store to pick up ONE zucchini that I needed for a recipe 😂
9. What I’m wondering is whether or not I should buy a new collar for Ky. She’s had the same one for… ever?… and while it’s all worn out and faded, I’m thinking it’s probably also worn in and comfy… like that favourite pair of jeans with all the holes in them that you just can’t bring yourself to get rid of because they wear so well… ya know?! My little Ky-ote (and her ratty collar)… on her posturepedic puppy mat 😂
10. Also! Before I forget, I wanted to thank everyone who left me book recommendations! I’ve got them all jotted down and I’ll be picking a bunch of them up the next time I’m in the bookstore… which hasn’t happened yet just because it’ll probably take me close to an hour to bike there 😂 But in case you’re in need of a new read, here’s a list of the ones that were mentioned! (all links go to Goodreads)
Secondhand Souls by Christopher Moore.
The Martian by Andy Weir.
Red Rising (trilogy) by Pierce Brown.
Fall of Giants by Ken Follett.
The Lake House by Kate Morton (<- I’m assuming since no author was given)
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.
Landline by Rainbow Rowell.
The Legend of Sam Miracle (“The Outlaws of Time” series) by N. D. Wilson.
100 Cupboards (series) by N. D. Wilson.
The City of Bones (“The Mortal Instruments” series) by Cassandra Clare.
The Lightning Thief (“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series) by Rick Riordin.
The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton.
The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.
Holy.snap that’s quite the list. You guys rock my socks off 😍 And I’ll see you hip cats (ehh?) in a couple days with a recipe featuring that aforementioned zucchini. I think. Either way, stay awesome!
Let’s chat!

Joyce @ The Hungry Caterpillar
I definitely second the Time Traveler’s Wife. It’s one of my favorite books–very human, pretty heart-wrenching, and very, very romantic.
Q-manda’s kind of cute, actually. Maybe that could be your new nickname?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It could! I mean, it couldn’t be any worse than when people just call me “A” 😆
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
I can’t handles my nails that long – I would so go crazy. Which is unfortunate, because they look really nice long, but they just drive me mad. And kudos for leaving the grocery store with just one thing. I definitely don’t remember the last time I managed that 😂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Me neither! This might have actually been a first for me 😆
Sky @ Blonde Freedom
That ice cream and parfait looks so delicious. I’ll have to try it out. I’m glad you listed some book recommendations. I’ve been looking for some books to start reading for the summer!
Rachael @ Catch me if you can
Holy crap your nails are long! I can’t handle long nails I type to much but your right nails being clipped is almost as bad as nails in a chalkboard!
Ashley @ Whiskers and Weights
Oh boy, I didn’t even know you could mess with the cover photos on Pinterest. I guess I know what I will be doing in my spare time (when I’m done unpacking and get internet anyway). And that pup, such gorgeous coloring. Our’s is getting some dimension to her as well!
Jen Rawson, RD (@PrettyLilGrub)
I wish I could grow my nails out. I bite or pick at mine all the time. I need to paint them more often, that seems to help me stop but I’ve been too lazy to paint.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I used to do that all the time when I was younger! I have no idea how I stopped, but painting them definitely helped break the habit.
Amanda - RunToTheFinish
I just started with Snapchat and it’s definitely great for when I”m traveling! I’ll add you!! amandacbrooks
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s fun, eh? Your snaps are great!
Sarah @ Foxy's Domestic Side
I think the worst thing has got to be someone clipping their nails at work…in their cube…it’s awful!
Dietitian Jess
Pinterest is my worst social media account- I need to sit down and give it some serious love and organization soon! Those are good book recs- I’m about to start The Luckiest Girl Alive hopefully this weekend!
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
Oh I hate it when you are missing just one thing for a recipe :-)) Totally done that before! Thanks for hosting and happy Thursday.

My poor Little Bear has had the exact same color since we got her 7 years ago.It really doesn’t suit her at all, but we rarely have the colors on them so I guess it doesn’t matter much? I do feel kind of bad about it though because its so ugly!
And seriously, thats all you bought at the store? Psh even if I dont need them and any fruit is on sale I will stock up on that stuff. I bought both blueberries and strawberries yesterday because they were 3 for $5. I just coudlnt say no!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We don’t get those kind of fruit deals up here in Canadaland 😛 And I don’t think I’ve ever done it before, but it helps when you know you need to cart everything home on your back while trying not to wipe out on a bike 😆
Emily @ My Healthyish Life
Oh thank you for that list of books! I just finished reading “Defending Jacob” and need another one. And MAJOR willpower for leaving the grocery store with only one zucchini. Even if I don’t need anything else I tend to buy stuff.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think that’s literally the first time that’s ever happened to me. And it helps when you know you need to carry everything home with you in a backpack.
Sarah @ BucketListTummy
Love the receipt for one zucchini – ha! I am all about banana ice cream and piling on some crunchy toppings. That parfait looks amazing!
Erin @ The Almond Eater
THANK YOU for reminding me to update my Pinterest cover photos. It’s been on my to do list for awhile but always gets pushed aside…..must do it today/tomorrow/this weekend 😀
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hope you did it 😛
Lesley
My cue to when I need to file down my nails is when I risk scratching my eye taking my contacts out. I’ve done that before, so I need to keep those nails reasonable, which means my other nails need to match.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ok you’ve seriously just convinced me. That’s scary.
Catherine @ foodiecology
Oooh, I’m loving the book recommendations. At the “tender age” of 32, I finally got a library card…now I want to read everything.
That banana ice cream looks amazing!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve been thinking about getting a library card! Mostly because I kind of want to start hanging out in libraries to get some work done instead of the same coffee shop all the time.
Heather @ Polyglot Jot
I love changing around my Pinterest boards…is that weird?! haha That looks like a great book list! Have you read The Book Thief? So good!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yup! And totally agree – very good read!
Faith VanderMolen
I’m reading The Lake House right now and have The Martian waiting for me!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
Omg your Pinterest boards are sooo nice! I really need to get in there and clean mine up some!
Happy Fit Mama (@happyfitmama)
I’ve been in need of book recommendations – thanks spoons readers!!
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass
There is this super gross guy who cuts his fingernails at WORK. AT WORK. And it’s not like a once every week or two thing. He like gives them a little trim every day or two. Like what the heck. As I’m sure you could guess he’s also the guy who comes to the office when sick and doesn’t cover his mouth when he sneezes. It’s literally the worst. And I fear being near him.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’d probably avoid him like the plague too… especially if he had a bunch of fingernail clippings surrounding him. Those things skeeve me out big time.
Ivanna
These nice cream recipes look AMAZING I love making it as well. Great recommendations for books I am looking for some new ones so I will check some of those out. Thanks for hosting!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
Ugh Pinterest is the bane of my existence. I wish I could get into it. That is so awesome that you rode your bike to the store!
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
I hate the sound of people chewing. I can’t deal. I also hate it when someone scratches their fork/knife across their plate. I never have issues with my nails getting too long but I do make my fair share of typos. And why is it that it’s like some days there’s no issue and other days I can’t type anything correctly? I also forget how to type if someone is watching me. It’s a guaranteed way for me to mess up whatever I’m doing!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Maybe it’s an anxiety thing? I notice that on days where I’m feeling a little more anxious or stressed, I can’t type or write as well… probably because my muscles are all tensed up. And I -hate- having people watch me write or sign my name. I get all nervous 😆
Ali @ Hit the Ground Running
Quite a few of my students are going with the super-long nails look and it’s frustrating to even watch them try to type. I am a strong believer in short nails! I hate when women are handicapped by fashion choices.
That breakfast parfait looks INSANE. I can’t wait to try it out this weekend!!
Morgan @ Managing Mommyhood
Oooh I can’t wait to check some of those books out! And that’s a little weird that you don’t like the nail clipper sounds, but now that I think about it, it kind of skeeves me too.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think it’s mainly because I associate it with fingernail clipping flying everywhere, and THOSE THINGS skeeve me out big time.
SuzLyfe
I’ve never been q- something, but I got a lot of Susie Q growing up. I love the typo and they were like, eh, go with it. I bet there are a lot of other great names that can be created by replacing the first letter with q. It’s too early for me to think of any, but they are out there. And the title of your post contains 4 of my favoirte things, so bravo 😀
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Hah! I actually had a hard time figuring out what to call it, so I just rolled with all my favourite things too 😛
Kate
Ooo thanks for the nice long list of books!! The Martian was an awesome movie so I’ll have to check out the book too.
I don’t know about dogs and collars. I think my dog enjoys when I pull hers off, but maybe a new one would be more bothersome??
Hollie
I hate having my nails too long too. I feel like it’s extremely hard to get work done that way. I’m glad you are enjoying your week and I’m excited to see what recipe you are cooking up there with the zucchini.
Michele @ PaleoRunningMomma
I feel like with all social media there’s a fine line between “work” and waste of time! And I mean we blog about food, so then eating is basically work, and grocery shopping. If you go that way it gets scary 😉
Michelle
Your puppy is the cutest!! The only one of those books that I’ve read is Fall of Giants. And it think I’ve read it three times! It’s so good! It’s the first book of a trilogy too, so if you love it you’ll have two more books to add to your list!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That’s seriously one of my favourite parts about getting into trilogies. I’m covered for a decent amount of time. And my favourite is when all the parts are out already so I don’t have to wait YEARS between books 😆
Courtney
Long nails do get irritating, but yours look pretty, at least!:) I’m jealous– my nails are always a disaster area.
There are a lot of good books on that list! I loved The Martian, and Kate Morton is one of my favorite authors.
Judy Litt
Read the Time Traveler’s Wife. It’s awesome. One of my favorite books. But thanks for the list, because I’ll need something to read in my upcoming travels — I’m assuming I’ll finish up the Divergent series before I leave, or midway or something.
We do get the dogs new collars every now & again. I think we’re on the second or third for Lola; she’s 10.
What about cracking fingers? Or other joints? I’m afraid I do it all the time. Clippers don’t bother me. The tv really bothers me if I’m not watching. I make my husband turn it off when we’re eating, or even if I’m eating. Or if I’m still reading in the morning & he gets up early. It kills me that if he has the chance, he eats with it on!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m the same way with TV. I don’t like having it on as background noise, especially if I’m trying to work. But cracking joints doesn’t bother me for some reason. Maybe because I grew up with a lot of guy friends and they did it all the time?
meredith @ cookie chrunicles
so much to say! first, I am going to now only call you q manda lol. I think that’s funny! second, I still need to read yesterday’s post! I am so behind on life this week! third, I lose so much time on pinterest but yes, since it’s technically work it’s ok! but, I am being really careful about not spending time on their with the bar mitzvah planning because I never get anywhere and consider it lost time that I want back. ha!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I honestly don’t think I’d be able to go on Pinterest if I was doing any event planning because the amount of options and ideas would just overwhelm me. I miss the good ol’ days when things were more simple!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I get annoyed with my nails when they get long too, which doesn’t happen very often! Looks like a great book list. I will definitely be checking some of these out for some summer reading!
Katie
My book list is long enough…can’t.add.any.more. haha
My friend says that taking off his dog’s collar for her is like the equivalent of when I get home at the end of the day and take off my bra…haha! But really…it’s an interesting thought. I wonder if it is that way?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I feel like I might be looking too much into it 😆 I’ve taken it off for her before and she doesn’t even seem to notice. Off, on… it’s all the same to her.
