Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. I have to start by saying that you guys are freaking epic! I mentioned in January’s At A Glance post that I was hoping to hit over 100 Thinking Out Loud submissions “in the next few months,” and you guys went ahead and knocked that goal out of the park just one week later! Last week’s ToL was the biggest one to date with 105 submissions, and I just wanted to thank you guys and let you know how much I appreciate everyone who participates, comments, or even just lurks silently π You guys rock my socks off.
2. What doesn’t rock my socks off is when I somehow manage to dump 1/2 cup of dried dill into my mashed potatoes because someone (read: Amanda) didn’t screw the lid on well enough and it went flying into the pot on the first good shake…
I ate them anyways π Not with all the dill, mind you, but I only managed to scrape some of it off so my potatoes were slightly dill-ier than I would have liked. Oh wells.
3. Had I not been starving and ready to eat my left arm off (I’m right handed so I need the right one), I probably would have whipped up a batch of buckwheat kasha instead. I’ve been trying to rotate my grains lately so that I can get some more variety in my diet, which lead to me falling in love with kasha all over again. I’m not the biggest fan of plain buckwheat groats, but when they’re toasted? Heaven. They have a really distinct nutty flavour and a nice fluffy texture. I definitely recommend giving them a try if you’ve never had them before!
4. I also recommend these two things from MAC…
Fix+ and Cleanse Off Oil. I’ve been using both on and off for years, and we’re currently very much on. That dry skin I mentioned as being the bane of my existence in the beginning of February? Very much gone… at least on my face. I’ve been using the oil in place of my regular cleanser to take off my makeup at night, and Fix+ a few times throughout the day. Both are great for keeping that irritating tight skin feeling at bay.
5. You know when you spend so much time looking at the same word that it no longer makes any sense? That’s exactly what happened to me and “sample” while I was trying to pick out fonts the other day. It got to the point where I was like… “is that even English?!?“
6. I also got the weirdest craving for orange juice [the other day]. And I say “the weirdest” because I’m not really a big juice drinker. I used to be, but it’s been a good handful of years since I actually went out of my way to get some. It reminded me of my little kid days when Mom would always put a juice box in my lunch kit. Awwwrs.
7. Speaking of my little kid days… I miss playing video games! I’ve been a pretty solid gamer for as long as I can remember, and it’s always been one of my favourite ways to relax and de-stress. Some people watch their favourite shows; I play my favourite games. That being said, I can’t even remember the last time I played one π₯ Heck, I’ve even stopped playing FarmVille! That needs to change…
8. This is getting a tad bit long, so I’m going to end it on #8 this week… by asking if you have any plans for Valentine’s? I can’t say that Valentine’s has ever been my favourite holiday to celebrate (regardless of whether I was single or not), but I’m not one of those people that flat out hates it either. I’ll be heading up to the mountains this weekend, not on a romantic getaway, but to batter my poor body on the slopes. It’s going to be a good time
No questionsβ¦ just tell me whatever comes to your mind! π

I don’t play video games that often, but when I do I go hardcore – aka my friends and I stay up (literally) all night until we win. π
Valentine’s Day? What is that? This Saturday is GALentines day for me and my friends! Have an awesome time snowboarding!
^and look – I didn’t even say annnnnything about you being a snowboarder. This doesn’t count. π
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Oh my gosh, that dill! I loveeee dill – give me cups of tzatziki everyyyy day, so I would have been eating them right along with you π
Annette@FitnessPerks
Mmmm OJ! I love OJ, especially now that I’m pregnant-it’s the bomb!
Beth
what is in your buckwheat concoction? looks yummy!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Just cooked apples, raisins, and almond butter.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
I had a similar “this doesn’t rock my socks off” moment yesterday when I somehow manage to knock my entire cup of coffee onto my breakfast, table and pants LOL.
We are planning on hanging out at MOA Friday..and literally made these plans today since our other plans fell through. woot.
Happy Thursday! <3
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers
Nope, no real V-Day plans here. We have a little shin-dig to attend Friday, but on Saturday I’ll just be making lasagna at home. (The fastest way to a man’ heart is through his stomach, and the fastest way to their stomach is with good homemade baked pasta dishes, with extra cheese of course.)
Beth
I have a box of kasha but have no idea how to cook it. How do you toast and cook yours? Thanks much
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I actually buy it already toasted from the store (Bob’s Red Mill sells it), but I’m sure there are recipes out there that can help! Even just a quick Google search turned up this one — http://www.livestrong.com/article/486159-how-to-toast-buckwheat/
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Oh my gosh, I am totally guilty of that spice mishap. Sometimes I open the wrong section of the container and instead of it being the tiny holes its the really large ones…. and then it all goes downhill from there π
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
I love dill, but yeah, a 1/2 cup…yikes!! Haha. I hate when that happens! One time I accidentally shook a bunch of cinnamon into a Mexican dish thinking it was actually cumin. Doh.
I’m not typically a huge juice person either, but fresh squeezed orange juice or lemonade…mmmmmm!! I will never turn it down.
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
I actually wrote about #5 in a paper for school recently – it definitely happens to me! Have a great time in the mountains!
Erin @ The Almond Eater
Um #5 has happened to me in that exact same situation haahah “sample” was actually starting to hurt my eyes.
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
Urg, don’t even get me started on the dry skin! I’ve been having major struggles because when I use any sort of oil or super heavy cream, my skin breaks out. BUT if I use any sort of pimple fighting cream/ointments my skin gets super dry. I’m tempted to try the Mac oil.. but I don’t want to break out!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That was my fear as well, but I haven’t had any problems in the year+ that I’ve been using it! You can always give it a try and return it if it doesn’t work for you. MAC is really good with that.
Susie @ SuzLyfe
I like dill, but perhaps not that much. I also like samples, particularly of the chocolate variety. We took a Theo Chocolates factory tour yesterday and let me just say it was every chocoholics dream. That’ll deal with any weird cravings you might have!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
So.very.jealous. I wonder if they were peanut-friendly…
Bridget
Sounds like a great way to spend Valentine’s Day!!!
Shashi at RunninSrilankan
CONGRATS on 105 link ups lady! It’s quite clear that YOU rock OUR socks off too!!!
Oh dear – #2 – I can so relate! And, I am a huge fan of the “scrape and eat it anyways” method too π
Sky @ Blonde Freedom
I’m also heading to the mountains to hit the slopes this weekend too! I’m meeting my parents there so I’m excited to see them and get to destress a little bit!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Woop! Hope you have a great time π
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
Haha sample. sample. SAMPLE. I get the same way when I read the same word over again, then sometimes I make Google check the spelling to make sure it’s right.
And I’ve totally dumped too much spice on food before, so you’re not alone!
AJ @ NutriFitMama
Haha love the juice box thing. I’m not a big juice drinker either but every once in a while (like twice a year) I will grab a juice box- just because I guess! Have fun on the slopes this weekend- I think winter would be a tad more tolerable here if that were an option. But it’s just cold. Blah.
Jen @ Bagels to Broccoli
What’s the editor you used for (with the font samples?) PhotoShop?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yup! Adobe Photoshop.
Sarah @ KS Runner
I did the same thing with a container of parsley once. Wasn’t my proudest moment, but like you, I wasn’t going to throw all the food away!
I love MAC products, so I’ll have to check those out! Thanks!
Elsie @ Sharing Healthiness
Thendill “situation” has happened to me soooooo may times!! I acutally love it when it is herbs that get spilled and not salt or sugar. That equals disaster!!! I am not a fan of buckwheat BUT I have never toasted them so that is what I’ll do! π Have fun in the mountains!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Toasting makes a -huge- difference to the taste! Sometimes you can buy it already toasted from the stores — especially if you’re shopping in any European specialty tones.
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
MAC products are really nice. For dry skin, I have actually been using a little bit of a spot treatment with argan oil. The winter months are brutal for skin. I am not all that into Valentine’s Day anymore. It used to be a bigger deal when I was younger. Now I see it as more of a Hallmark holiday. My boyfriend and I are going to go out to dinner and a movie. However, when I was single I was fine with just letting it pass by.
Julie @ Running in a Skirt
Those are two Mac products I haven’t tried yet! Thanks for the suggestion. My skin is uber dry right now too.
Ms.J
Wow, congratulations on exceeding the 100 mark Amanda π !! Only sad that I wasn’t one amongst them… perhaps soon. I just need the itch again hahaa!
I myself have never given Valentines Day much thought before; I’m eager to perceive my notions this time around.
Oof – I would have wailed like a right ol’ infant under the dill circumstances  .
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
You craved OJ and I craved chocolate milk this week. I was thinking before how real the cravings are because after I had it, I didn’t think about it again and don’t want any now. I used to live on Tropicana Orange Juice and now it’s my son’s favorite in the morning.
Andrea @ Pencils and Pancakes
The other day I dumped the entire bottle of cayenne pepper into the pan. I mean dill you could possibly deal with but I didn’t want to burn my tastebuds off at dinner, so into the trash it went!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ohh man, yup — there’s no way I’d be willing to risk it with cayenne. Especially because I’m the biggest wimp when it comes to spicy foods.
Marcia
Your kasha looks divine! I thought the mega dill dump was chia seeds at first glance. Haha! We are not huge on Valentine’s plans as far as going out goes. I will get some lobster tails and we’ll stay home.
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I’m not sure I would’ve survived that much dill. You’re a brave woman! As for Valentine’s Day, ugh I’m not that into it. I’m not into gushy stuff really but I do like the chocolate!
Chelsea
Yay on over 100 posters!!! I was just thinking yesterday about how it’d been over a year since I started joining you in TOLT π
I am so so guilty of not putting the lids back on spices well. I try to always sprinkle them into the cap so that I avoid disaster π
I’m personally a valentine’s day hater. Okay. Maybe not a hater. I just a really don’t care about it at all π
Brynn
That does it, I have to try the MAC Clease Off Oil. I’ve heard nothing but great things. Going to the store today!d
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You’re going to love it! Seriously a great product.
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
At least the dill wasn’t salt! That can be tougher to scrape off and I did that to myself recently π my son is an orange juice fiend! I’ve recently been eating more oranges for a little citrus boost.
Hollie
Mac Make up is my favorite. They are one of the few brands that does not cause my skin to break out (which is huge).
I can only imagine how dry it is in Canada right now. It’s super dry down here. I remember my face being so darn dry.
The video game I miss the most (without a doubt) is rollar coaster tycoon. I could still play that though. LOL
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
Wow thats alot of dill! Glad you were able to get some of it out because who could possibly turn down an otherwise perfectly good bowl of mashed potatoes?
I may need to look into those skin products. My face continues to be so dry this winter and I’m pretty desperate to find something that will help.
Have a great time skiing!
Miss Polkadot
Oh, that second-/third-/times-a-million-guessing words is an almost daily occurrence for me. Probably worsened by the fact I’m a grammar and word nerd and hate hate hate making mistakes. Hence why I don’t read my posts again after hitting publish. It’s a measure of self-protection.
The idea of changing up grains is very much up my alley. I’ve been trying to do that at least partially with my meal prep and in an effort to use it what’s in my pantry and hey, I finished a two-pound bag of brown rice and a huge box of wheatberries so that’s a win. Now I wish there wasn’t such a lot of pasta because I don’t crave it at. all.
Your video game mention is making me miss Playstation games with friends a little. We never had one at home but I distinctively remember those sessions at certain friends’ houses. Mario Party. Oh, Peaches, the princess … Aaah, good old times.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You know… I’ve never actually had wheat berries before. And I have no idea why since the texture looks like it’d be right up my alley. I know what you mean about paste, though — it’s not my favourite thing either.
Khushboo
Ahh that drippy almond butter- yum! It’s been so long since I whipped up a batch, I’m thinking it’s time I put the PB jar away and load up on the AB! Your Valentine’s Day plans sound lovely- hope there will be plenty of chocolate involved too- it’s almost a necessity! I have a friend’s wedding party on Saturday night so I will be attending that. And congrats on the ToL milestone- cheers to it hitting 200 anytime soon!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner
I get weird cravings like that too. I have had the OJ craving before and am also not that big a fan. Weirdddddd. That buckwheat kashi looks amazing. Thanks for hosting!! Happy Thursday!!
Arman @ thebigmansworld
Farmville AND juice boxes? Let’s go back to primary school.
Those poor potatoes. Bits of dill = yes. A whole container….. maybe a little too much. Of course you still ate them. #potatopride.
Scrap that. #whitepotatopride.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ooo can we?!?! Does that mean we can throw nap time in there too?! π And just for that, I’m having sweet potatoes tonight…
