Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. Firstly and foremostly….
… aaaaaaand Happy Thursday to everyone else! I think I speak for all of us non-Americans when I say that we will gladly be your answer to the question of “what to do with all those pesky leftovers?” I myself am particularly fond of mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and any [peanut-free] dessert that isn’t pumpkin pie. No offence — it’s a texture thing.
2. I will say that the holiday mentality is super contagious, though. It’s business as usual for us up here in Canadaland, but I’m draaaaaaaaagging like crazy– and I completely blame the blog world for that one. It’s just hard to feel productive and motivated to get work done when you’re constantly reading about people enjoying holiday festivities. Pft. I’m not bitter. Totally not bitter.
3. At least the Black Friday sales have made their way up here! Which I say with 100% sarcasm since I can’t even remember the last time I’ve shopped the sales on either Black Friday or Boxing Day (Canada’s equivalent). I know people get a big thrill from scoring a good deal, but the crowds and the craziness are a little too much for me and I end up wanting to run for cover before I’ve even managed to find a parking spot. That being said, I wouldn’t mind getting my Christmas shopping started a little earlier this year, since I usually wait ‘until the last minute and end up running around like a madwoman trying to get everything together in time. Confession: I kind of like it.
4. Oh! And while we’re on the topic of Black Friday, I wanted to let you guys know about the awesome sale that Bluehost* has going on this weekend! From today until Sunday night at 11:59 PST, you can sign up for web hosting for as low as $3.95 per month — so if you’re thinking about starting a blog or switching over to self-hosting, then now is definitely a good time to do it! And if you’ve been going back and forth on the idea, you can check out this post to see why I recommend it or head over to Bluehost* to learn more.

5. As for me, I’ll be decking the halls this weekend! #happydance
I know it’s not technically December 1st yet, but it’s close enough! And I always like to get my decorating done on the weekends because it means I can have family/friends over and really take the time to go all out. You know what I’m talking about — Christmas music, freshly baked cookies, fuzzy socks, a holiday movie or two — the whole shebang.
6. Speaking of Christmas movies, you guys convinced me that I need to get my act together and watch Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, so I’ll be adding both to my holiday movie list this year. Now to find some copies…
7. Maybe I can watch them while writing my Christmas cards. For some reason that I can’t recall, I didn’t end up sending out Christmas cards last year and I haaaaaaaaated it! I mean, sure it’s way easier to send someone a text or e-mail and wish them a Merry Christmas that way, but there’s something so much more special about receiving an actual card in the mail… so I’m planning on getting that done this weekend and hopefully beating the massive influx of letters to Santa 😉
8. I’d also love to do some Christmas crafts this year, but I have no idea what to make… Any suggestions? I made a gingerbread-less gingerbread house last year (read: it was made out of foamy stuff), but I’d actually like to do something more crafty crafty this year. Wreaths? Garlands? Ornaments? I’m kind of afraid to look on Pinterest because then I just end up getting way too overwhelmed 😆
9. I could have sworn that I had something else to tell you guys, but it’s escaping me at the moment so I’m going to end things here by wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and/or a wonderful Thursday! I’ll be taking tomorrow off to catch up on some work projects, but I’ll see you on Sunday with some Link Love!
No questions… just tell me whatever comes to your mind! 😀

I hear you! Yesterday was hard to sit at the office and see turkey everywhere! Thank goodness it’s the weekend!
Christina @ The Athletarian
Okay so I haven’t watched Marry Poppins or SOund of Music in full either… I have no interest in those movies. Does that make me a bad person? {insert monkey covering eyes emoji}
Happy Friday and have fun decorating!! Christmas always makes homes look so pretty! 🙂
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
I’m totally guilty for loving the rush of Black Friday shopping. Sadly I am on a tight budget this year so I won’t be partaking.. but I’ll still browse all the sales online!! 🙂
Brittany
All this Christmas talk is making me so giddy.
Shannyn
Crafts you say…… my ears perked right up. Check out this lady: http://mmmcrafts.blogspot.ca/2014/11/french-hen-pattern-is-in-zee-shop.html She has some GREAT ideas! I’m not allowed to start Christmas decorating until NEXT weekend. Le sigh. I will be up at 7am to start!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh.my.GOSH… I want to make ALL the things 😯 You just opened up Pandora’s box…
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
Whenever I think about doing something crafty, I remember that I’m really, really horrible at anything even remotely creative. I can barely draw a stick figure, and I was working on knitting the same scarf for like 2 years before I finally gave up (its like 8 inches long) (that’s what she said). So noooo creative Christmas-y things for me.
Also, I got up at 1 pm today. And I’m just making breakfast now at 3 pm. Yay shift work!
Ella
I have some MAJORLY crafty things coming your way on YouTube starting Dec 1st!!! It’s still technically a surprise (till Friday), but let’s just say… December = lots and lots (and lots!) of DIY videos. I gotchu, girl 😉 PS where’d you get those adorable holiday cards?!
http://youtube.com/sparklesandsuch26
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Gah! Dec 1st needs to hurry up and get here already! And I actually picked those cards up last year and can’t remember where they’re from 🙁
[email protected].
Totally time for some decorating!
You really need to see those movies – right now!! Go! Now!
I’m not doing any black friday shopping – no money, no shopping!
Hilary
I couldn’t agree more with you about black Friday shopping! I can’t stand those crowds and how people care so much about these material things to fight over them! I am staying in tonight and getting a good nights sleep because that is way more important in my book!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
You should make Christmas ornaments. You can even give them as gifts and keep one for your own tree. I’m hoping to do a little holiday decorating myself this weekend. Those outdoor lights still need hanging and my cards need a writing.
Thanksgiving is overrated. Says the vegetarian who is happily forced to eat all the mashed potatoes and bread. 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Turkeys are overrated. Less meat = more room to fill up with the GOOD stuff 😀
Heather @ Housewife Glamour
Good to hear you’ve taken advantage of some of the Black Friday deals! Thanks for hosting the link-up. Happy (American Thanksgiving) Thursday! xo
Leana
Yes!! I cannot wait to decorate for the holidays this weekend as well! Cue the Christmas music, eggnog, falling snow and roaring fire, I am ready.
I normally send out Christmas cards but this year I did not get my act together and design/order some. I’m thinking about going the e-card route which definitely does not result in the same amount of joy as getting a card in the mail.
Laur
I would make or decorate little gift bags or boxes. Then, bake up some goodies to give to friends, family, and your favorite barista 😉 Can I just say how I salute you for dealing with Black Friday craziness? Oh, hell to the no for me. haha! I cannot deal with crowds and angry people. My anxiety doesn’t like it so much. LOL. I’m really trying to get my gifts done this year before it’s the week before Christmas, buuuuuutttt I work better under pressure. (I just keep telling myself that but really I just procrastinate everything. shhhh)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 Working better under pressure is how I justify too. But really, I think I just need that looming time crunch to help me focus, otherwise my mind ends up wandering all over the place and wanting to do ALL the things.
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape
Going late night shopping this evening and you reminded me that I need to pick up some Christmas cards! Thanks for that!
I hear you on number 2 – it’s not much fun reading about a holiday everyone in the blogosphere seems to be celebrating apart from us! But I love the idea of taking the message from the day and still being thankful. But also secretly wish I could watch the parade!
Woop woop for Christmas decorating and the eventual Mary Poppins watching. You will love it!
Janessa
Ooooh I went Black Friday shopping once a couple of years ago. Never. Again. O.O
Also, most of my Christmas shopping has been done already… Generally, I am a last-minute procrastinator, but I became entangled in the holiday spirit a little earlier this year. And I had a good budget all ready and rearing to be spent. Wal-Mart sales for the win. 😉
Carrie (This Fit Chick)
I LOVE Christmas cards- they always make me smile and I remember sifting through them as a child!
Angela @ HonestlyAngela
I wish I sent out Christmas cards, but I just don’t make time for it. Maybe this year will be the year, but I doubt it! I am with you on the black Friday sales. A little too much craziness for me. I do participate in cyber Monday though!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I need to remember about Cyber Monday this year! I always plan on doing some shopping only to forget until the whole thing is over. You’d think I’d be better at the whole online shopping thing considering how much I dislike going into the malls…
Chelsea
Eeeek. I want to put up Christmas decorations too…maybe tomorrow!!! 🙂
Cassie
I love getting Christmas cards. There are sooooo many cute SF-themed cards here I want to buy!!
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
I’ve never seen Mary Poppins or Sound of Music either. I actually haven’t seen a lot of classic movies it’s definitely on my bucket list.
Ann
That’s so nice that you send accrual Christmas cards!! I haven’t sent Christmas cards ever, not even my mum. But I love that idea, it’s so much more personal and with love. I should do that too this year!
As for your crafty project. Why don’t you paint glass balls to hang onto your Christmas tree (sorry don’t know the English word :-D) or there are some cute things to make with enjoy walnut shells. Or saw wooden figures. I guess you really have to look on pinterest 😉
Shannon
I really want to use bluehost but I am worried about the amount of time and work it might be to switch over. Is it a really time consuming project?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Not at all! You save and export your entire blog and upload it to your new server. I did it myself and while I did run into a few SNAFUs, it wasn’t anything overly complicated. Plus Bluehost support is AMAZING. If you have any questions about it, shoot me an e-mail!
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
I always feel a bit jealous on American Thanksgiving too. I say next year I should host a Canadian blogger American Thanksgiving at my place. 😉
I avoid the Black Friday/Boxing Day madness too. I find it’s way too hectic! Plus the sales are usually really picked through, so there isn’t much I want anyways.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
We should definitely throw a Canadian blogger Thanksgiving! But I vote we do it in the mountains 😉
Erin @ The Almond Eater
We always put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving, so I think that’s normal? Oh, and I’ve also never seen the Sound of Music (and probably won’t)… buuuuut Mary Poppins is a good one!
Lindsay
i hope i getting a christmas card… with some of your granola bars. yes? haha happy thanksgiving. Wish i was there watching mary poppins with ya. Too fun!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
Enjoy your crafting! The excitement over Black Friday can be SO very tempting.
Fran@BCDC
I never do Black Friday shopping either. I hate the crowds…think I have a bit of claustrophobia and the crowds make me crazy! A friend of mine just switched over to self hosting with Bluehost. She loves it, but I’m not all that computer savvy and it sounds complicated to me. It’s still sitting in the back of my mind. But that’s a good deal. Hmmm…If you were closer, we Always have leftovers, you could definitely visit! I make a very tasty cranberry orange jello mold. It’s my Favorite. Have a great day, Amanda! Enjoy your decorating!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s really not all that bad at all, Fran! And the best part is that Bluehost has a pretty awesome support system that will help you out 24/7, or even do the transfer for you! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to shoot me an e-mail!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
The holidays are really here now!! I am sort of excited to do some online shopping this weekend…I started a little bit a few weeks ago but haven’t thought about it since then. However, we decorated for Christmas in like mid-November which some may say was too early but I’m not sick of it yet:) Happy Thursday! I think you should make some Thanksgiving food today even though you already celebrated:)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
It’s never too early to decorate for Christmas 😀 I just wait a little while longer because I leave my tree up until the first few weeks of January.
Hollie
Black Friday deals are the best. I always enjoy Thanksgiving because it’s such a family holiday. I’m with you on pumpkin pie. It’s never been something I have really enjoyed.
Liz @ A Latte Running
I’m actually really excited for Black Friday – I never head out (because I’m a teen), but I’m really hoping some bookstores and running stores will have some wicked discounts!
How many GB does a website use on average? I’m debating between the starter and the plus plan on Bluehost 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Well, all packages have unlimited bandwidth, so unless you’re uploading tonnes of video and music files, then the 100GB of storage offered by the starter is more than enough.
[email protected]
So with you there in trying to find motivation to work today, when all our blogging chums are off enjoying a holiday and some FANTASTIC food! 😉
So jealous….me want turkey!
Oh well I guess I’ll just have to wait until Christmas 😐
Livi @ Eat, Pray, Work It Out
I love Christmas crafts! It’s just finding the time to do them haha
Susie @ SuzLyfe
I introduced my husband to The Sound of Music a few months ago, and it might have been one of the most magical experiences ever. He became obsessed with “The Lonely Goatherd” and was totally enthralled by the whole thing. It was pretty awesome, not gonna lie! I have made gingerbread houses on several occasions, but I really just want to eat them. It’s like the ultimate temptation of how long can you leave it out before you actually just have to eat it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Well now I basically -have- to watch it. And I usually end up having to throw out my gingerbread houses because all the kits “may contain traces of peanuts” 😡
Jen @ SavedbytheKale
I may do some shopping on Black Friday but it will be all online, the crowds and craziness is not for me! Have fun decorating Amanda ! I hope to get our trees tomorrow! yay!!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner
I once tried to make a gingerbread house around the holidays….lets just say it did not turn out as pretty as that pic you have or as good as I wanted it too. It is difficult!
Have a great Thursday and thanks for hosting the linkup!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
Even though I try to make it a habit not to shop on black Friday, it’s hard not to get caught up in all the “excitement” over the “deals” (which for me just means buying things I don’t need to buy and wouldn’t have.) It’s tough to stick to just the stuff you would have gotten anyway and keep a logical mind!
I’m sure whatever you decide to do craft wise will be awesome!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 That’s usually what ends up happening to me when I shop sales too. In any case, I hope you found something good today!
Silvia
I seriously can’t believe it’s already holiday time! Partly because I’ve been living in Thailand for the past few months, and it is HOT here. No festive sleigh bells here for sure. I’m trying not to be sad about the lack of Thanksgiving, but after reading this I totally want to go Christmas shopping!
Arman @ thebigmansworld
You made a gingerbreadless gingerbread house? Fail Whale.
I’m so proud you guys call it Boxing Day too and celebrate it on the appropriate day. I just bought Christmas cards….now to fill them out.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You’re a step ahead of me — I have to do that this weekend!
