Hi friends! Happy Monday Tuesday! How the heck have you been?!
It feels like it’s been forever since I last talked to you guys, and believe me when I say that I didn’t really plan on just up and leaving you like that. I wish I could say that my extended absence was the result of an awesome weekend getaway or a little too much Cinco de Mayo celebrating, buuuuuut that would be a lie. The truth is that I spent the majority of the weekend at home, nursing a wonky stomach and a bad mood.
True story.
I have no idea what it was, but my stomach decided to start hating me on Saturday afternoon and it didn’t let up until yesterday afternoon, despite all of my babying, tip-toeing, bullying, andΒ swearing. Maybe it was stress or hormones (aka: what I blame pretty much everything on), but yeah… nothing I did helped; and despite my initial attempts to try and smile through it, eventually I just gave up and gave in to feeling sorry for myself. Not one of my proudest moments, to be sure, but sometimes we all need to mope around for a day (or three), am.I.right? And thank you so much to everyone who tweeted/texted/e-mailed me to see if I was still alive – you guys made my heart smile. And so did these…
So at least the weekend wasn’t a total bust π But I digress. You want to know the worst part about the whole thing? The lack of inspiration and heavy dose of writer’s block. Ugh.Β I can’t even tell you how many times I sat down at my computer, trying to come up with something to say, only to stare at a blank screen and walk away ridiculously frustrated. I swear… stomach problems seriously mess with my head. BUT… thankfully that’s all over now, and not only am I feeling like my normal self again, but I came across something while I was waiting in line at the grocery store the other day that totally inspired this post. Behold:Β Starbucks can now help you lose weight!Β (please note the heavy use of sarcasm)
I didn’t have a chance to flip through the magazine while I was at the store, but I have to admit that curiosity got the better of me and I Googled it when I got home. I thought it would have something to do with drinking tonnes of coffee or green coffee bean extract, but coffee actually has very little to do with it. Apparently, some woman (not the one on the cover, interestingly enough) lost 86 lbs. eating nothing but Starbucks for 2 years.
Brilliant news for all my fellow Starbucks lovers, right?!Β Not exactly. I mean, sure, it sounds better than losing weight on rice cakes, egg whites, and broccoli, but we’re not talking about enjoying brownies, bagels, cookies, and cakes. Oh no. We’re talking: oatmeal and black coffee for breakfast, and either a bistro box or panini for lunch and dinner.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who realizes that a) that’s just madness, and b) Starbucks hasΒ nothing to do with it. A diet like that would barely clock in at 1000 calories a day (don’t even get me started on severe calorie restriction). You could eat 1000 calories worth of Twinkies or cereal a day and still lose weight. Hey! Now there’s an idea!! I wonder if a cereal diet actually exists – excuse me while I Google it…
It does! Hallelujah, my prayers have been answered! It’s a good thing I stocked up this weekend…
π π πΒ Ahhh. Nothing makes for a good laugh better than a stupid diet. I mean, you guys know how much I love my Starbucks…
… but I think I’ll stick to their coffee and keep eating normal food. And speaking of food, it’s time for me to go get some breakfast in my belly. I hope you guys are having an awesome Tuesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow for What I Ate Wednesday!
. – . – . – .
What are some of your favorite ridiculous diets? I do love the Twinkie one π
Anyone else become a grumpy hermit when they don’t feel well? Tell me I’m not alone in this one…
Caitlin
Haha i become a complete grump when i’m really tired (like today…lovely that that the children aren’t listening either) and/or sick. I’m sorry you had a yuck weekend, but I’m glad you’re feeling back to yourself π i might have to goole crazy diets now…i had no idea a twinkie diet existed! Sounds pretty good to this sweet lover π
Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny
I might be able to do the cereal diet (who doesn’t love cereal!). In all seriousness, that’s really sad that a magazine actually considered that front page worthy. I’m curious to see the article, but I don’t think we’re sending a good message to your girls (or anyone for that matter!).
Ashley @ Eat Run Live Happy
Sickness just hit me yesterday. I left work early after a super fast run to the bathroom to stick my head in the toilet. I slept from 6pm to 6am with a couple of trips to the bathroom in between. I’m feeling better today but my head and stomach are still a little blah. I think one more night of Nyquil and I’ll be okay.
P.S. My favorite diet was always the chocolate diet. Nothing but dark chocolate. Iyiyi When I look back at stupid diets I wanted to try (and some I actually attempted) I just want to smack myself.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ack! Hope you’re feeling back to 100% soon, Ashley!
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
Awh I’m sorry you don’t feel well girlie! I hope everything’s okay soon!
This made me lawlz so hard. I think one of my favorite diets is the lemonade diet, where all you eat and drink for 5 days is water with lemon juice. No duh you’re going to lose weight! Or Taco Bell’s Fresco diet. Speaking of which, have you ever had anything off of their Fresco menu? I’d much rather have a cheese-and-sour-cream-stuffed burrito over the Fresco options.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I can’t say that I have! To be honest, I can’t even remember the last time I was in Taco Bell – homemade Mexican is usually 100x better π
Ari
I heard about that, the main idea was that she focused on calories, since everything was labeled I think. Probably could’ve done much better with a different “diet”. Meanwhile, now I want Starbucks.
Sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well, I had that stomach bug a few weeks ago. Hope you’re feeling better!
Sarah @PickyRunner
Okay this is one of the most ridiculous diets I’ve ever heard. You can lose weight at McDonalds or KFC or any other fast food crap too. It drives me nuts to see these things- obviously you aren’t going to lose weight eating “the good stuff”! I’d rather eat foods cooked at home that taste better and are better for you anyways. The cereal diet though… I could totally do that. For about a day. Maybe. Then I’d be back to craving all of the other foods I love. I’m glad you’re feeling better- I was wondering about you this weekend but sometimes we all just need a break from the interwebs!
Megan @ runningonjava
I love Starbucks, but there’s no way I could live off it. I completely understand the whole writers’ block thing. On the other end, I become inspired at the most random times (ie. in class) and have to write out everything I want to say on a Post-It note. Work with me, brain!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I get hit with bouts of brilliant inspiration in the worst places too, like in the shower… and the worst thing about it is that I usually forget what I wanted to say by the time I come out…

I got these at our Holiday Yankee Gift Swap this year as a gag gift. LOL.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
π Omigosh that’s amazing. You know… that might just be worth looking into…
Jess
This Starbucks diet isn’t even original – remember that guy who lost about 100lbs eating only at Subway?
Sorry your tummy was off all week-end – I throw a pity party the instant mine plays up, so you stuck it out far longer than I would have. Hope you’re on the mend now!
xxx
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I do remember good old Jared! I wonder if he’s still at it…
Robyn
Oh that diet just sound silly! Not to mention WAY overpriced lol If i wanted three grapes and some oatmeal it would be a lot cheaper to just get it at the store…Oh well, glad to hear you are feeling better, stomach junk is the WORST
Lauren
I’m always grumpy and a hermit π Not only is the Starbucks diet just ridiculous in the idea, but that has GOT to be the most expensive diet on the planet. I could never eat or afford to eat Starbucks for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Madness. I hope you start feeling better and better. At least it’s starting to get warmer!!! π
Courtney
Starbucks diet?! I guess if you buy all your food at Starbucks, you’ll run out of money for other food and live only on coffee cakes and lattes. π
Chelsea
Sorry to hear that you didn’t feel great this weekend, darlin’. π That’s never good, and sometimes I swear its even worse when you don’t know what’s wrong, or if it’s just kind of “one of those things” that you have to get through.
That Starbucks diet? I just…I just can’t. It’s even worse than the cottage cheese or cabbage soup diet. Then again, I guess if you’re going to throw nutrition out the window and only focus on calories, there could be worse tasting ways to do it than with Starbucks :/
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
A Starbucks diet? Seriously? That is ridiculous! I would definitely prefer a cereal diet over that! π
kris
ahh exactly!! It’s not starbucks! it’s the calorie restriction! I hope no one goes out there and tries to recreate this whole starbucks diet thing. But given that it’s made headlines everywhere I’m guessing a lot of people are doing it.
Theres a chocolate diet out there that makes me chuckle.
Sorry you weren’t feeling well! Whenever I feel sick I just want to curl up in a ball and do nothing. Hope your weeks off to a great start and you’re feeling loads better!! π
Khushboo
Wow just when I think I’ve heard it all, some new faddy (read: crazy) diet pops up! Along with losing its charm over time, I bet the Starbucks βDietβ would work out rather expensive over time! Another nonsensical one which tops the lost is the maple syrup/cayenne pepper diet. Iβm not sure of how it actually works but I think youβre meant to drink it in place of a meal.
I’m glad you’re feeling better, Amanda…missed your post yesterday :)!
Allison @ Life's a Bowl
The Sbucks addict in me would be intrigued too… But not too intrigued to try it. I think all of these fad diets are so silly – like the cookie diet?! The creator of that one actually goes to my gym [small world] and rumor has it he’s a total jerk. Maybe if he ate something other than cookies he’d be happier?!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Aww for real?! I didn’t think anyone could be grumpy if they get to eat cookies all day. Apparently there really is too much of a [delicious] thing.
Miss Polkadot
Boo, all-weekend funks/moodyness suck(s) – well, funks are bad whenever they happen, really. I’m happy your stomach decided to stop bugging you and that you’re feeling better again overall. Um, yes to being crabby when feeling unwell. Saturday happened to be one of those days for me, too, but I dragged myself out for a walk with a friend and it lifted the funk a bit.
To me, any diet telling you to primarily eat a certain food/cut out one or more food groups entirely and additionally eat far too little in general is ridiculous. One that I once stumbled upon and found particularly “shocking”, though, was a chocolate diet. Sounds good in theory but the meal plan was a) simply way too restricted overall and – major bummer! – b) allowed just a single tiny piece of chocolate or even just a “chocolate treat” (like a homemade date/cocoa/walnut ball) per day. Seriously?! I’m sorry for anybody following that diet ;).
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
How is it a chocolate diet if it only allows one piece of chocolate a day? That makes perfect sense… just like everything else in the diet industry π
Becky @ Olives n Wine
I’m so glad you’re feeling better!! I definitely become a grumpy hermit when I’m sick. I barely have the strength to leave my bed, let alone communicate and interact with other people. The Starbucks diet, huh? I think I could do that… if i could have soy lattes all day long π I feel people will fall for anything to lose a pound!
Lawrence
Kashi and Starbucks! Can life get any better? LOL…awesome post!
Cammie
hahahaha Starbucks diet thats great. I found this blog last week about this lady who is only eating at Starbucks for a year, but since she lives in Seattle she has access to the Evolution Fresh food and juice because technically they are a Starbucks company….or how bout that guy who bought and drank a drink from every Starbucks in Manhattan in one day. 15 minutes of fame, is it worth it? I love Starbucks just as much as the next gal, but some people are so extreme. I’m all about the balance;) And I’m glad someone else gets the same starbs drink as me, dry cappuccinos are the best. I’m on a coffee hiatus at the moment–not great but it’t right for now–aka I’m living vicariously through you for the next month or so. Thanks for the awesome blog!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I love coffee but… every drink in ONE day? π― I can barely even fathom the thought of having a couple of frappuccinos in one day, never mind every drink on the menu. Oh his poor body…
Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin
Ummm I feel you girl on the stomach stuff. Seriously the way my tummy feels influences my mood more than anything else. And that’s hilarious about the Starbucks “diet”. I actually ate lunch there yesterday for the first time in forever and their snack plate was very unsatisfying but yeah I could see how eating there for three meals a day would result in weight loss (and extreme hangry-ness). The diet articles in some magazines just crack me up. I saw one the other day titled “How eating healthy makes you fat”…seriously? Ha! I hope you’re feeling better lovey.
Ashlee@HisnHers
haha. I am pretty sure you could hire a personal trainer and health food chef for the cost of eating Starbucks 3 meals a day for 2 years!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Pretty much, and you’d be healthier for it! It mentioned that she was spending around $15-20 a day π―
Lisa @ Live and Be Awesome
That’s the stupidest thing ever. I hate these fad diets that are just ridiculous. Just eat healthy! ARGH. Hope you’re feeling better!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
I am the EXACT same way when I don’t feel well. Sometimes it’s good to just hole up and watch movies. π
The Starbucks diet. Just…really? I mean it seems like people should just logically be able to understand that’s not a thing…but I’m sure it sold magazines!!
Alex @ therunwithin
man i am bummed and sorry you were sick. sometimes the bug hits and it hits both mind and body. heavy blow indeed. hopefully you can ease back into it. and also hound some of that cereal
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
Sorry to hear about your upset stomach but hopefully you are back to good. A Starbucks diet? Really? You know someone out there is going to take that and run with it. That’s awful!
Hollie
In all honesty, most fad diets amuse me to no end. First the only thing you’ll lose is about a million dollars being on the starbucks diet….seriously LOL. I mean of course you’d lose weight but it’s not sustainable. Fad diets will never cease to amuse me though and hope you feel better soon.
Carly @ Snack Therapy
Can you imagine how freaking expensive that must have been?! I can’t even wrap my head around spending 15+ dollars per day on food! That makes my stomach hurt. Speaking of, I’m glad yours is feeling a little better! Nothing is worse than a wonky stomach. Maybe a cookie diet would cure your ailments?
Ashley @ Life and Fitness
Hahaha I hope Starbucks doesn’t start promoting this diet! My favorite ridiculous diet is when people are on no carb diets. People need carbs for energy and by cutting them out completely, they end up starving all the time.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I fell victim to the low-carb craze a few times, and each time ended with me feeling tired, cranky, and nursing a jacked up stomach. It’s definitely not something I could ever adhere to, and it makes me sad to hear people giving carbs such a bad rap π
Heather @fitncookies
Bahaha twinkie diet… love the cereal diet π That’s something I could get used to! However, it isn’t healthy.. glad to see you are feeling better! Missed your blogging!
Ashley @ OurPersonalRecords
Hmmmm my favorite fad diet, basically any fad diet. They’re all silly for one reason or another. My thoughts are to eat appropriate portions, and find balance in the food you do eat. Any diet that has something off limits is not practical for a long term lifestyle change. And I’m totally with you regarding the stomach issues. I had my own stomach problems last night and because of it decided it best to head to bed at 9. Hello, grandma.
De @ Cooking for the Other Half
Omg what. How quickly would you get sick of Starbucks!
I always think of the cabbage soup diet when I think of weird diets. Apparently people still do that, but it makes me want to vomit every time I think about it.
However, not gonna lie…a cereal diet sounds pretty good. I’d eat cereal every day if I could, and there are so many cereals to choose from! You’d never get bored! Haha. Maybe not.
Nicole @ FruitnFitness
Sorry you were feeling yuck this weekend, that is never fun. The starbucks diet sounds interesting. If you want to do that kind of diet why not save yourself a LOT of money and make oatmeal and sandwiches at home?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I think she mentioned liking to have all the nutritional info right in front of her. I have no idea why she stuck to Starbucks though. Like there are tonnes of ready-made meals in the store…
Lisa
Yay for you being back:) Glad you’re feeling a bit better today!
Ah, some of these diets are just so beyond me. Like we do people even think of them. It’s like we’re always competing against what’s right for our bodies and what others say is right. I think I’ll stick to what my body is asking for.
Talk to you soooon!
Parita
Right before I got married, I saw something about a bridal diet involving a feeding tube. WHAT?! It really makes me sad that people feel they need to go to such extremes and actual sacrifice their true health.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I heard about that one as well. It really is scary to think about the lengths some people will go to, especially because we look at them all happy and smiling and don’t see the absolute hell they’re going through to be a few pounds lighter…
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
I’m so glad you’re back to your old self again!! Starbucks diet….get real! I enjoy food way too much to go for that one and I will stick to my favorite Starbucks coffees.
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers
Hmmm… the Starbucks diet sounds a bit too expensive for me. haha I’m sorry you weren’t feeling well. I hope the cookies have helped nurse you back to health. π
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
Yay I’m so glad you’re back! i get so grumpy when I’m sick, i totally get it. That’s ridiculous about the Starbucks diet- you’re so right it’s just cutting calories. sbux had nothing to do with it. I definitely thought (and hoped) it was going to be coffee or green tea related too.
Glad you’re feeling better. enjoy the rest of your day pretty lady π
Lucie
Oh Hunn, you should have called me and we could have thrown a self-pity party together! I was foo almost all weekend too, but it was my own fault since I decided to drag myself through a new diet (see Monday post). I am superhappy that you feel better now!
I was always wondering how people can go through the kale-soup diet. I don’t even want to know how it is being around these persons during that diet. (TMI, but I am talking about gassy stuff…..) π
Linz @ Itz Linz
oh boy – why are these diets so ridiculous?! and not to mention expensive! starbucks is expensive!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Exactly! I think they said it was costing her from $15-20 a day! Who the heck can afford that?!
