… gets the worm…
…but I’ll pass on the worm and go with a hot cup of black tea instead…
But worm or no worm, I’m definitely an early bird, a morning lark; a person who eagerly jumps out of bed at hours that the majority of society considers ungodly, and for no apparent reason, really.
But there are several good reasons to be out of bed by 6 AM. Like what, you ask?
Well, to watch the sun rise…
To make, and eat, breakfast without feeling rushed…
But the thing that I love most about being an early bird? Peace and quiet. A chance to be alone and collect my thoughts. An opportunity to relax and be still before I walk out the door and become part of a loud and hectic world. The experience of serenity – something that I’ve come to appreciate even more in the past couple of weeks.
Life has taken a turn towards crazy. Not in a bad way, but in an “Omigosh its 7 PM and this is the first opportunity that I’ve had to sit down” kind of way. In other words, it’s been busy. Take today, for instance. After enjoying a leisurely [and messy] breakfast…
… I ran out the door for a quick 3 mile run, came home to shower and make myself presentable, hit up the bookstore and went a little crazy…
… made a pit stop at the grocery store and picked up some staples to prevent myself from going crazy…
… came home to inhale lunch, ran out the door again to meet with my real estate agent, spent the entire afternoon/evening looking at condos, came home to make dinner, and now it is indeed 7 PM, and this is indeed the first opportunity that I’ve had to sit down all day. Whew.
Not that I’m complaining. I enjoy days where I have lots of errands to run because it makes life more interesting, and makes me feel more alive. I’ll probably be dead tired by 9 o’clock, and passed out by 9:30… but hey, that’s life. At least I have my quiet and peaceful mornings to look forward to…
. – . – . – .
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Do you enjoy busy days?
Kristie
I’m an earlyish bird. I generally wake up between 8-9 no matter what day it is, no matter how late I went to bed and no matter how much time I have to sleep in. Sometimes earlier. VERY rarely later. And I’d much rather get up early than sleep in late. Anytime I accidentally do sleep in I feel way more groggy and like I wasted a whole morning! I love leisurely mornings too, so the earlier I’m up the more leisurely and lovely it can be.
And I also love busy days. I feel SO much better and more alive when I’m out, about and productive the entire day. Unfortunately those days have been few and far between this summer. I’m really looking forward to the time (hopefully SOON) when my relaxed days are the ones that are fewer and more far between. Love leisurely days in their own right, just not when they’re everyday 🙂

My days are nonstop from 5 AM to 6 PM. Ah the life of a working man who like to workout…

Busy days are lovely; there’s nothing better than a day when you’re running around so much that you blink and suddenly its dinnertime! I don’t like busy nights, though. I prefer nice, quiet, (now that its summer and I can sleep in) late nights to myself. That’s my “me” time, like you have in the morning. During the school year I do get up early to have my morning “me” time, since I like to be in bed early on school nights because I feel like it gives me a more refreshing sleep. My grandma always said that an hour before midnight is worth three afterwards!
Even though I sleep in now (there’s really no reason to get up… and there’s better TV on at night anyways, lol) I really am a morning person. Once I get into my school routine, 5 AM is a pretty normal wakeup time for me–even on the weekends!

My mom says the same thing about getting in some zzz’s before midnight 😀

im an early bird too, I rarely sleep in my body just won’t let me!

I think you will love the Shadow of the Wind, it was such a great book!! And the Alchemist isn´t bad either 🙂
I am a total early bird. I can wake up at 4 or 5 a.m. and keep busy for the whole day, but I need to hit the bed before 11 p.m. or bad things would happen :))

Oh trust me, im with you on the early bird rising list. I never used to be I remember when I was little my mum would have to drag me out of bed, I would just hide away for hours, but now im up and ready to go 😀
The sunrise photo is beautiful, Im always facinated by the spectacular colours a sunrise and sunset produce they are incredible.
I’d say I much prefer my days to be busy, otherwise i will sit at home feeling sorry for myself or something similar and its nice to get out. 🙂

Lately I’m an early bird. And truth be told I’ve always been much more of an early bird than a night owl. I LOVE my mornings (just not when I got no sleep the night before!) 🙂
vegan aphrodite
Im for the most part a early bird! I LOVE early morning: no stress, silence, and getting the most out of the day.
However- I have huge problems getting in bed at night, so I usually end up sleeping 4-6 hours, which is way too little. And then, all of a sudden, I can sleep like forever! Like today, I didnt wake up until 10 am. Makes me feel like Im wasting my day. But the sleep was so much needed!
Have a wonderful day sweetie 🙂 And thank you for your lovely uplifting comments! Means so much!

I wish I was an early bird. I get so jealous of you all! I just can’t get my butt up! I also work until 7pm, so that doesn’t really help. I would love to see the sunset every morning, though!
Lauren
I *used* to be such a night owl! I’d be up till 2 or 3 AM and still wake up well before noon in high school so who knows how I functioned. I don’t even remember ever feeling tired. Oh to be young again. Anyways, flash forward a few years and I am definitely an early bird. Being up and at em is such a great feeling and I have been loving early morning runs lately. It’s peaceful outside and cool and just lovely 🙂
Paulina (One Smile Ahead)
I think I’m an early bird. I set my alarm for 7 but I always end up out of bed at around 6:00-6:30. Sometimes I try to stay in bed and sleep longer but it doesn’t happen 😀 It sounds like you had a really busy day! I do like those. It gives me something to do.
Mandiee
i am a night howl through and through. my body physically won’t let me go to sleep anytime before midnight. in fact, i do my best work at night and enjoy the beautiful silence at the end of the day. i do like a nice mug of black tea in the mornings, though. i think that is definitely one thing mornings have going for them.

I think I’m both an early bird and a night owl… which is a problem, since it means I’m going to be chronically sleep-deprived if I cater to both whims! But morning is preferable, I think — it’s just so much more calm and pleasant.
Busy days are awesome… but only if I’m busy doing something I actually like to do. Otherwise, they kind of suck.

Keia
definitely an early bird! which kind of became a problem after I got married to a night owl…anyway, we have kind of balanced ourselves through the years but I still enjoy my alone time in the morning 🙂 I love the alchemist!!!
kris (everyday oats)
That messy breakfast of yours looks delicious! I used to be a night owl, but now I prefer being an early bird 🙂 It just makes my days feel a lot longer.
And gosh, you certainly sound like you had quite the busy day today! I prefer being busy most of the time as long as I get a day to take it easy every once in a while. Being busy makes me feel like I’m able to accomplish a lot 🙂
I hope your condo search is going well!
runningonapples
Definitely an early bird! But sometimes I get guilty feelings if i don’t get enough done since I wake up so early =
beckafly
I’m an early bird for sure. I too am often really busy in the mid-morning-afternoon-evening and sometimes I don’t get to settle down until 7 or 8. I love busy days! I live for them 🙂 Its the days when I’m not busy that wear me out. Enjoy your books too. I heard The Alchemist was good.
Anastasia
Ah, I love these photos. How beautiful is that sunrise?!
I used to be a night owl, but am slowly changing to an early bird. I also love how quiet things are in the mornings. My favorite thing ever is getting up early, working out and then drinking coffee on the porch. It’s so nice to start the day being calm rather than rushed.
amandasvids
An early bird for sure. And here is a warning for you: have tissues ready for when you read ‘A Dog’s Purpose’….you are going to need them!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Uh oh’s. I’ll keep that in mind!

I wish I was up that early! I’m not really a morning person or a evening person. I don’t know what I am…. haha. I am usually very tired when I get up, even when I get enough sleep. I do go to bed very early, around 10.30, so I guess that makes me a morning person after all. I have a hard time sleeping in. I feels like wasting my day!
I love busy days! It makes me feel alive:)
In Sweetness and In Health
I love the morning! I can’t stay up that late, but I also can’t get up that early…I think I’m a person that needs at least 9 hours of sleep of else I feel like I’m getting sick.
Cassie
I agree, there’s nothing better then waking up early, enjoying the morning and not feeling rushed…that sunrise picture is gorgeous! Have a great Wednesday!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin
Early bird for sure! I love being the only person awake in the morning and being able to enjoy the peace and quiet while eating my breakfast. I actually get a bit grouchy if my parents wake up early and start making noise. I really need that hour to myself every morning! 😛
How did the apartment hunt go? Did you find any possible keepers?
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Yes and no. I saw a lot of places that I loved, but the location was all wrong. Or the location was perfect, but the place was “meh”. I don’t wanna have to settle, so I’m waiting until something really hits me. The real estate agent told me that when I find my perfect place, I’ll know right away. So I’m waiting on that!

I LOVEEEEe busy dayss!!! oh gosh here im both… go to bed at 1am and get up at 6:30am… hah sooo YEAH i love the nights btu i LOVE the mornings too!
Tessa @ Amazing Asset
And once again, everything about this post is just speaking to me… I am an early bird for sure. I love the peace of the morning, the time when I am alone, doing what I want to, enjoying my time- blogging, reading, thinking, whatever.
Thank you for posting this, it helps knowing I am not the only one that lives a crazy life style like this 😀
Alexandra
This post had me saying “AMEN” so many times haha I’m a total morning person, everyday I get up around 5:15 or 5:30 and I just feel like I get so much more accomplished! 🙂
I’m crazy out of this world for your book haul, I tend to go a little bananas at bookstores too 😉
Corey @ Learning Patience
I am definitely a morning person! Usually up by 545am and out the door for a 3-4 mile run — can’t beat the sun rises is right–so pretty!
Laura Agar Wilson
I think I could have almost written this post word for word about me, I agree with everything. I’m such an early bird and love having the time to potter about making breakfast after getting in a good workout, and most of all I love having a few minutes of peace and quiet before my day starts 🙂 Sounds like you had a crazy day, hope you had a nice sleep!
Alexis - PumpedforPumpkin
I’m an early bird! I love getting up at 5am, sitting outside, and listening to the birds. It’s such a peaceful time. I don’t remember the last time I slept in past 6am.
Congrats on looking for a condo that’s really awesome! I’m so happy for you. Hope you ended up with a good night sleep tonight after such a long day 🙂

Oh that sunrise is absolutely beautiful! There’s nothing more gorgeous than sunrises and sunsets in my opinion 🙂
I am definitely an early bird! No matter what time I go to bed I just can’t sleep in. The latest I’ve ever woken up was 9 o’clock and that was only because of jet-lag. I normally get up at 6 too and I love it! And I totally agree, I love busy busy days because it feels like I’ve achieved something in the day.
Good luck with the house hunting – I totally know how you feel, it wasn’t too long ago I was doing the same but it is SO worth it once you get your own place! You will have a kitchen all to yourself!! I love it haha 🙂
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Oh I’m looking forward to having my own place, but the process is going to kill me 😆

Early bird fo shiz! My productivity seems to peak before lunchtime. I love busy days, although they seem to zoom by. I don’t know whether that’s a good or bad thing!
