I know a lot of people like to get all fancy with their Sunday morning breakfast, taking the extra time to whip up a mean batch of pancakes, waffles, or French toast, but I tend to keep things pretty simple around these parts…
I used to turn my nose up at cereal, seeing it as nothing more than a flimsy snack food that didn’t have what it took to fill me up, but when I had to give up oatmeal and find a new breakfast obsession, cereal was actually the first thing I turned to – and it did not disappoint. Since I’m feeling particularly fond of it this morning, and I like to keep Sunday’s posts pretty lighthearted and relaxed, I decided a cereal survey was a good way to go. Hope you guys enjoy!
. – . – . – .
How often do you eat cereal? Every.single.day. Usually multiple times…
Do you measure out one serving or are you a free pourer? Free spirit, baby! I used to be really strict with making sure I never ate more than a single serving, but… who can honestly be satisfied by such a small amount?! It’s cereal! It’s wonderfully delicious! Well, there’s that and the fact that I gave up all that counting/measuring nonsense and have no desire to go back.
What is the last kind of cereal you ate? Kashi Cinnamon Harvest and Puffins with breakfast…
What is your favorite “healthy” cereal? I’m gonna have to go with Kashi Cinnamon Harvest or Weetabix.
What is your favorite “unhealthy” cereal? Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
What is your favorite fruity cereal? Erm. There are fruity cereals? I was never a fan of things like Fruit Loops or Fruity Pebbles so my answer to this question will beeee… pie. The answer is pie.
What is your favorite chocolatey cereal? Enjoy Life Double Chocolate Crunch granola.
What is one cereal you can’t stand? I wouldn’t say I really dislike any cereal, but I’m not the biggest fan of granola. I know people tend to be crazy about the stuff, but it’s way too dense and chewy for me. I prefer my cereals in biscuit/puff/flake form – I can only handle light a light sprinkle of granola as a topping.
What kind of milk do you prefer in your cereal? This kind…
What was your favorite cereal as a kid? Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cap’n Crunch, Corn Pops, Golden Grahams, and I liked picking the marshmallows out of Lucky Charms.
Did you ever buy a box of cereal just for the toy inside? Heck yeah I did! Didn’t everyone? And I didn’t even bother waiting until I finished the cereal to get the toy at the bottom of the box. Oh no. I just dug around until I found it. Do they still put toys in cereal boxes? I honestly can’t say that I’ve seen any lately. Sad face.
What is the most amount of cereal you’ve eaten in one sitting? I don’t know about one sitting, but there have been numerous occasions where I polished off an entire box over the course of a day. Cereal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Don’t mind if I do!
Best cereal for snacking on dry? Kashi Cinnamon Harvest… especially when it’s dunked in applesauce.
Do you put fruit/sugar/other toppings in/on your cereal? Definitely. A big bowl of cereal with milk used to satisfy me when I was younger, but now it takes a pretty fancy mix of yogurt, fruit, and almond butter to fill me up.
Do I have you craving some cereal yet? 😀 Happy Sunday, friends!
. – . – . – .
Do you make a fancy breakfast on Sundays?
How often do you eat cereal? As a meal or snack? Do you stick to one serving?
Is there any cereal you don’t like?
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
Well, you KNOW I get fancy on Sunday’s! While I do LOVE my pancakes, I can also appreciate a big ol’ bowl of cereal goodness just as much as the next person…and Greek yogurt “milk” is an absolute MUST! My recent cereal obsession is Nature’s Path Cinnamon Blueberry Flax…it has the perfect ratio of cinnamon, dried blueberries and crispy crunchy flakes!
With my lack of willpower around crunchy goodness, it’s a MUST on measuring…if not, I would surely eat HALF the box in on sitting! As far as cereal that I don’t like: Quaker Oatmeal Squares…at least that’s what I keep telling myself…note the previous statement regarding willpower! 😉
Jill
Oh, and I’ve heard lots of good things about “Puffins” brands…not sure! My friend used to be obsessed with Honey Bunches of Oats for a while too.
Jill
So…I love that you buy Oikos 2% and its not organic…thank god I’ve found another normal somewhere 🙂 So tired of everyone either writing about how “awful” dairy is OR how organic is the “only” way to go….step off high stools please, jeesh.
BUT, you know how you had the oat “sensitivity” (not intolerance or allergy but sensitivity) WELL, this is what I’m pretty confident I have with yogurt AND eggs/egg whites. Unfortunately these are the SAME foods I’m kinda addicted to…
Like the past 3 nights (late at night) I’ve eaten an entire tub of greek yogurt (EACH night..that is 3 tubs, 3 nights) ALONG with 30 grams dark chocolate, 2 oranges, and 6 Tbsps of drippy peanut butter (I used to not allow myself to eat peanut butter cause of everything said about it,,,so now that I “accidentally” bought a HUGE tub of the DRIPPY stuff….its insanely good WITH eggs or yogurt…as in DUMP 3/4 of a giant tub into a 500 gram tub of yogurt with a couple ounces of chocolate and fruit at like 11 pm at night
Issues, ….oh yes.
I know I need to eliminate yogurt and eggs..not “permanently”, but like you for while…but I’m so STUCK in my ways you know? I depend on those things, jeesh.
ANYWAY, regarding coffee…I’ve never had,,,but have no coffeemaker…picked up this TINY box of Nescafe Taster’s Choice 100% coffee (label says) …instant….just add water….think that’s okay? what is the nutrition on just the black coffee alone? I have major digestion issues (cramps and acidity and constipation) and really ought (so I’m told) not add coffee and instead add vibrant juices, green smoothies…but I cna’t help but wonder if coffee would make me “go ” 🙂
SO…thoughts on that? And best to take it first in morning? Or AFTER breakfast or what? I stupidly got the caffeinated one…should’ve looked for decafe….oops. And will that dehydrate me much? Sorry, total NOOB here, lol.
And on that note, I’ll end this comment with a tribute to the topic of this post…
Cheerio!
……………………

Sara @my less serious life
oh man, i’m a cereal lover! every morning. without sway. and for snacks. i think cereal often gets a bad rap in healthy living blog world – overshadowed by oatmeal. but i can’t get enough!
emma
your breakfasts always make me want to reach right into the screen and grab them! and back in the day I had a wonderful affair with egg white oats because of yours truly 🙂 i crown you breakfast queen! xx
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Awwwr. Now that is one label that I’ll happily accept 😀
Sara @ Nourish and Flourish
Why, OF COURSE this post has induced a crazy cereal craving! In fact, I think I owe you a big thank you for turning me back onto the stuff. Until last fall, it had been over a year or two since I’d stuck a spoon into a big bowl of cereal. Craziness, right? It wasn’t even because it was a fear food (although, at one point it definitely was), but because I’d simply forgotten how much I loved it. 😀 I’d say I eat a bowl of Puffins or Cinnamon Chex 5-6 times/week–usually in the mid-morning or afternoon, depending on when the cravings strike. I love them most coupled with Greek yogurt or whipped cottage cheese, however every now and then, I’ll sprinkle it on top of ice cream as well. 🙂
Favorite childhood cereals: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Kix, and Frosted Mini Wheats!
Ashley @ AlmostVegGirlie
My weekend breakfasts are usually homemade waffles, since they take a little bit longer to make and I’d rather not get up any earlier than I have to just to make breakfast. But I’ve been known to have waffles for dinner during the week… 😉
I’ve always loved cereal, and I used to eat it as a snack all the time but I haven’t had it very much lately–that needs to change! I’m the same way with granola, I like it dry in small handfuls or as a topping, but a whole bowl of it is just too much. And whenever I do have cereal now, it’s all about the toppings–fruit, protein powder, nut butter and chocolate chips are my favorites!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
You know I completely support the decision to have waffles for dinner 😉
Jessie
Just leave it up to you to fill out a survey about cereal, Ha Ha!! You are too funny girl.
I usually eat cereal, rather it be a couple servings or just some mixed in my yogurt everyday. I can’t seem to ever get enough of it :).
I’ve never been a fan of any chocolate flavored cereals. Yuck!
Irina @ Chocolatea Time
The last line says it all…you definitely have me craving cereal now! Which is unfortunate considering 1.) I don’t have any and 2.) it’s 10pm and I’m barely awake to walk down for a snack. Oh well… Believe it or not, I’m actually not a big cereal person at all! I never have been and suspect that I never will be. When I do buy cereal I just eat it straight by the handfull. My favorite is Kix!
Nicole @ Fruit 'N' Fitness
You defiantly have me craving some cereal! I love eating cereal with greek yogurt and sliced fruit; but i dont think a serving of regular serving of cereal and milk would keep me full for two long as a meal.

Love cereal! Your blog reminds me of watching Seinfeld 🙂 He always had tons of cereal on his shelf in the kitchen.
Fave unhealthy cereal(s): Lucky Charms, Cocoa Krispies, and Raisin Bran Crunch
Fave healthy cereal: I can’t think of one. They’re all pretty good with some fruit and Almond Milk
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Love Seinfeld! I have all the seasons on DVD and must have seen episode a handful of times 😀
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate
LOVE me some cereal. I have it at least once (most of the time twice) per day!
Natalia
mm cereal 🙂
i actually used to love oatmeal but ate so much of it for years i can’t look at it anymore.
as far as cold cereals i actually love the ones everyone scrunches up their face to including allbran original, fiber one twigs, puffed rice and weetabix especially mixed with cottage cheese and greek yogurt. i could live off of it for sure
Kate
an ode to cereal, I love it! Our tastes seem to be pretty similar, I’m also not really a huge granola person, and most of your cereal favorites are also mine – Kashi Cinnamon Harvest, Barbara’s Puffins, CINNAMON FRIGGIN TOAST CRUNCH!!!!! I will be honest, now that I’m gluten-intolerant I can’t eat most of these and most GF cereals don’t really do it for me….except Cinnamon Chex. Next best thing to cinnamon toast crunch. Sometiems i sprinkle a bit of cereal on whatever breakfast I’m having because a little gluten bothers me, but *sigh*….gone are the days of big bowls of my favorites 🙁 And yeah, ew, fruity cereals….yeah the answer to that is most definitely “Pie”.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin
I always intend to make a fancy breakfast on weekends… but it rarely happens. I just never want to put in the effort in the mornings haha.
I eat cereal + yogurt + fruit +soy nut butter usually 1-2x a week for breakfast and I have cereal many more times throughout the week as a snack! My favourite is Kashi Honey Almond Flax, but you’ve got me loving Kashi Cinnamon Harvest now too. One cereal I’m not really a fan of is Rice Krispies… I find them too boring. 😛
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’m not a fan of Rice Krispies as a cereal, but in square form? Omigosh it seriously has to be one of the best desserts ever. So simple, but so, SO satisfying.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
I am seriously loving this survey! I love whipping up fancy breakfasts now and then, and I am a big fan of toast, but there is just nothing better than a big bowl of cereal. It is my go-to breakfast about half of the days out of the week. You can never have enough, am I right??
I most definitely do not stick to one “serving size.” If I had to guess, I would probably say that I eat about two to three “servings.” I mean seriously, who can be satisfied and full from just one serving? 3/4 of a cup is not gonna do it for me!
My go-to cereal is Kashi Go Lean Original. I always mix at least 3 cereals together to make things extra “fancy” 😉 and that cereal is always one of them. I really love Peanut Butter Puffins, but I rarely buy them because I seriously cannot control myself around those!
