This thick and creamy oatmeal cookie dough smoothie is reminiscent of a comforting oatmeal cookie!
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not exactly in the know when it comes to what’s hip and trendy these days. I don’t read the news because it’s full of nothing but doom and gloom; I can’t talk to you about what’s going on in The Bachelor because I don’t have cable; and I can’t tell you what songs are topping the charts because I don’t listen to the radio. Heck, I didn’t even know which teams were playing in the Superbowl this year until I actually sat down and asked my dad “who the guys in orange” were, and I just found out that the Olympics start this Friday. Crazy.
That being said, it should come as no surprise that my body isn’t exactly up to speed in what’s going on around it either. It craves things that aren’t typical for the temperatures and seasons, asking for hot foods in the middle of summer and cold foods in the middle of winter… and lately, the cold food it’s been asking for has been smoothies…
Over the past couple of weeks, my smoothie obsession has come back with a vengeance, and I’ve been having at least one a day — sometimes even two. I’m picky when it comes to what I’ll guzzle down, though — I mean, a girl’s gotta have her standards, right?
First, my smoothies have to be thick enough so that I have a hard time sucking them up through a straw — bonus points if I have to bust out a spoon. They also has to be loaded, not only with healthy and wholesome ingredients, but plenty of healthy and wholesome ingredients. I used to be wary of drinking my calories because I was afraid the endeavour would do nothing to satisfy my hunger and only leave me prowling the kitchen in search of something more, and while that’s definitely happened on a handful of occasions, it was mostly because I was doing it all wrong…
The recipe I’m sharing with you today is right in every possible way, with each ingredient coming together to create a cold, creamy, thick smoothie that’s oh-so-satisfying. As an added bonus, it tastes like oatmeal cookie dough, and you can never go wrong with oatmeal cookie dough. This recipe has actually been up on Spoons for a little while now, but I only mentioned it in passing so I figured it was high time to give it a little more attention…
I’d love to know if you make this (or any!) recipe! Tag @runwithspoons on Instagram and Twitter, and be sure to subscribe to our mailing list to receive more healthy and delicious recipes straight to your inbox!

Try an oatmeal facial. Take a handful of quick oats, place into a tiny sieve, such as a tea bag sieve, run a quick splash of hot water over, push the oatmeal of of the sieve with a spoon into a bowl. Discard what is left inside the sieve. Use what is in the bowl. Put it on your face. Set the timer for 15 minutes. Wash off with warm water and a washcloth. Your face will feel beautifully soft. If your face is dry afterward, you can rub it with coconut oil, it makes an awesome face glow.

First off, this looks amazing – just added stuff to my grocery list!
But the funny thing is the ‘circle of bloggers’ … I already follow you but didn’t catch this one. But then on Sunday at Arman’s, I got a comment from someone who found me through ‘Spill it Sunday’, I clicked her blog and then found a drink that looked insane … and it was yours. Funny stuff!

This looks wonderful! As soon as my banana is frozen up a bit I’m making it. I’m pregnant and have been having horrendous cravings for sweets. I normally have a strong sweet tooth but lately it feels like I have a whole mouth of them! Not only will this satisfy my sweet tooth but it will also satiate my hunger. Two for one!
Mary
Hi! Do you have the nutrition facts for this? Looks delicious!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Sorry Mary, I don’t calculate the nutritional info for my recipes.

The perfect dessert in smoothie form — doesn’t get much better than that!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
I’m kind of the exact opposite when it comes to my smoothies. They’re usually not a meal replacement for me, so I like them to be light and not super thick. I rarely every use anything other than straight up fruit and some greens (spinach, kale). I have added yogurt before when I knew my next meal was far away, but for me they’re more about hydrating and fulfilling my insatiable need for fruit. I actually crave them more in the wintertime because it’s so damn dry, I need the extra hydration.
The one constant in all my smoothies though is the beloved banana. I suspect we can agree on that one.

Oh my gosh … this post is speaking to me. Must… have smoothie. My pregnancy cravings are kicking in so now I want this smoothie AND the cookies!
Leslie
Umm! Yes please! I’ll take one! I’m sitting here at wok eating dry lucky charms drinking a bottle of water. This is not one of my shining moments. I’m stopping by from SITS. I hope you have a great Saturday!
Kristin
This sounds pretty amazing! I check out every smoothie recipe that I pass, but I still haven’t gotten into them. I haven’t mastered a good recipe yet, but this could change that! Visiting from SITS!

I’m not a big fan of oatmeal, but this looks delicious!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table
Love oatmeal cookie smoothies! I posted my recipe a couple of years ago. Add a little notch – it sounds strange, but I promise it’s really good!
Cassie
My smoothie standards are high… so bad that if it hasn’t been made in a high-powered blender I probably don’t want it. ALWAYS gotta have spinach in my smoothies. I’m obsessed with getting my greens!
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli
Ha! I could have written the EXACT same intro paragraph…only I do listen to the radio here and there, but that’s only during my 15 minute drive home from work 4 days a week when I can catch a local show with two DJ’s whose banter is always entertaining! I met them once too…which is weird because of course they looked NOTHING like how I thought they would! Ha!
I like what you did with these pics…with the blue and the scattered oats, it looks like snow…makes an unseasonal recipe look appropriate! Unlike me breaking out the fall decor for my pumpkin ice cream post! 😯 Whatevs!

OH MY! Awesome. Love the images, too! I’d love to make this with my nut butter line’s “Sea Salted Cinnamon Almond Butter!” I’ll let you know when I do:)
Irina
I love oatmeal smoothies!! They were pretty much all I was able to eat back when I got my wisdom teeth out. I suggest adding in some colorful berries (blackberries especially) to blend in because the final color will blow you away…gorgeous! Yes, I just called a smoothie ‘gorgeous’ 🙂
Laura @fitrunningmama
totally making this– I have unflavored protein powder– thinking if I add some vanilla stevia or even a date or 2 that might work… thoughts?
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
That would definitely work! Dates actually sound like a pretty awesome addition!
Alexis @ Hummusapien
It’s 11:30pm but I still want to slurp like five of these. Why does anything that sounds remotely like cookie dough make me wanna eat my arm off?? Love the bright blue background too!!
Heather @fitncookies
Mmmm! Cookie dough anything and I’m down for it! Definitely going to try this one out!
Amber @ Simply Keep Breathing
I’m determined to make this smoothie. The only thing is, I despise bananas! Maybe a couple of blueberries would be a nice substitute?
Anyhoo, thanks for sharing it! 🙂
Jess
Bananas are the best ingredient to any smoothie!! Two weeks ago I wanted a smoothie for breakfast, so I did that recipe (not kidding) without the protein powder, and oh man! It is sooooo good! creamy and oh yummy!!
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
I’m glad you reposted this because I’m definitely going to be making it now! A cookie in smoothie form? Heck yes.
I used to be skeptical that smoothies could be filling too, but you’re right, it’s all about the ingredients you add. That being said, smoothies still don’t fill me up quite as much as a regular meal. I always find I’m snackier after drinking a smoothie v. solid food!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Whenever I get snacky after a smoothie, I find that it’s usually mouth hunger more than anything else. I find that adding something like cereal or chocolate on top always helps with that.
Liz @ I Heart Vegetablesi
Oh my goodess, I haven’t been making a lot of smoothies but I think this is going to get me back into smoothies!!!! This looks AMAZING!
