It snowed!! 😀 😀
Yes, I’m excited. No, I’m not crazy. Snow means winter, and winter means snowboarding (and Christmas!!). Ask me again in a few months and I’ll probably be cursing the white stuff with every fibre of my being, but I’m very much enjoying it for now… especially because the mountain resorts are set to open next weekend and I’m hoping to make it out there to take advantage of early season riding. Squee! But I’m sensing some stank eyes, so enough snow talk for now… let’s talk Daylight Savings.
Did anyone actually get an extra hour of sleep last night? Because this girl did not. My body seems to max out at 6 hours, so I was wide awake by 3:45 and out of bed by 4. I have a feeling that today is going to be a very long day, so thank goodness for the BLOG world and its never-ending supply of good reads…

Did you end up getting that extra hour of sleep?
Three things you did yesterday; three things you’re going to do today. Go:
Yesterday: early morning run, mid-afternoon snowboard shopping spree, late night date with J.
Today: church, baking experiment, dinner at my parents’.
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats
Love all these links!! Now I need to find the time to read and cook them all!
Yesterday I read my new Jodi Piccoult book, went to the gym and cooked mini cauliflower pizzas.
Today I went for a hike with my boyfriend, we finished watching a movie and I spent some more time catching up on blogging and blog reading 🙂
Melissa
Three things I did yesterday:
Visited the Philadelphia Coffee & Tea Festival with my mom and sister!
Went food shopping with my mom and sister
Read the newspaper!
Three things I did today:
Visited the chiropractor
Visited the library
Wrote a blog post
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope
LOVE these posts! You always find such great links 🙂
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables
I did get an extra hour of sleep PLUS a 2.5 hr nap yesterday…. who am i???
Corinne
Wow have you always been someone who maxes out at 6 hours? I usually need between 7.5 to 9 hours sleep a night – without it I feel quite crabby and unproductive. Love your link love – some great reads there.
Three things today: marking, a short run, and cooking. Tomorrow: marking, a short walk, and eating 🙂
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Definitely not always… and my sleeping patters used to be completely different as well. I was a night owl who would go to bed at 2 or 3 and sleep until 10, but things just slowly started to change as I got older and this is where I’m currently at. Who knows what the next couple of years will bring.
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health
I can’t imagine waking up at 4am. Ugh, that sucks.
I did get an extra hour of sleep; actually it was about ten altogether and it felt awesome. Sorry, not trying to rub it in!
I do think you’re a little nuts for wanting it to snow but I can understand if it means you get to go snow boarding. I’m sure if you’re good at it, it’s a really fun way to get some exercise. I, however, would be on my butt the entire time.
Eating 4 Balance
The hydration tip linked with being tired is interesting. I don’t always get enough water during the day because our school water is so gross and I have to find filtered water or else I won’t drink it. Haha. Need to work on that!
Um ya.. My blog is definitely not “healthy” 😛 A little all over the place according to that article.
No extra sleep for me either. My mom changed the clocks at something like 9:00pm last night and I got super confused at what time it ACTUALLY was and ended up going to sleep 1 hour later than normal… Because I thought it was 1 hour earlier than it really was. Lol.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Have you tried bringing a couple of water bottles from home? I definitely notice that I feel a lot more fatigued if I don’t get enough water in me, so it’s worth trying!
Ari @ Ari's Menu
SNOW!!!! I’m still wearing shorts, and I’m a little jealous! Lots of great reads this week!! Thanks for the link love, friend!
Alysia @ Slim Sanity
I definitely did not sleep in. And I had to make dinner way earlier than planned because the sun sets so early now. I need to make my own photo studio 🙂
Davida @ The Healthy Maven
I legit can’t believe it snowed. Wish I were as excited as you. But maybe if I liked snow boarding or had your sweet snowboard I’d feel differently. Meh I’ll sit in the chalet eating my chilli by the fire thankyouverymuch.
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green
You guys got snow!!! Keep it! Haha I don’t mind it around Christmas.. but not at the beginning of November!!
Yesterday: Ran 5km, Made birthday dinner for my sister’s birthday, refereed at Beerfest.
Today: Took a 4 hour train ride, watching Walking Dead, Blogged.
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Healthy Kitchen
Ahhh snow! Keep it away!!
I didn’t really sleep an extra hour, but I did get a good 8 hour sleep so I’m happy with that!
Things I did yesterday: ran, met Sarah from thebrainandbody.com at the Toronto National Women’s Show, and read A Feast for Crows.
Things I did today: yoga, brunch at Kindfood, and food prep.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
More blogger meetups? Ack! You guys are so lucky over there on the east side — barely any bloggers to meet up with here on the west 🙁
Nellie @ Brooklyn Active Mama
Hi Amanda 🙂 Thank you so much for linking to my post and for giving me SO much other fun stuff to check out!! 🙂 Enjoy your week.
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
Always great links to check out!! It looks so beautiful out your window!
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body
It’s cold here, but we haven’t gotten snow yet. I am not a snowboarder or skiier, so I am happy to be snowless. I ended up getting an extra 20min reading time before bed, an extra 20min sleep time, and an extra 20min quiet breakfast notebook time. A pretty well balanced extra hour 🙂
Arman @ thebigmansworld
So my (limited) part of my mathematical brain is currently fried so…this daylight saving for you guys- its one hour forward? I’m trying to piece my time zone knowledge together through bloggers and their blogs lol! We just put ours one hour forward a few weeks back…I’m frazzled and I blame the exam I have a in 3 hours 😉
I really enjoy the links from the SITS girls- they really are helpful and informative. Early morning run? nice one!
Three things today- exam, roast a pumpkin (lazy on the foodprep over the weekend…oops) and study later tonight. Best life ever.
PS Still can’t believe you have snow. I swear it was only last week you had leaves!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
😆 We had leaves all the way up until yesterday afternoon — doesn’t take long for things to change around here 😛 And we just moved our clocks back one hour (we’re the opposite of you)… so when I woke up at 4, it was actually 5 from the old time.
Liz @ Carpe Diem and Run
I really love these posts – thank you so much for doing them!!
Samantha
I live in New Zealand and we already changed our clocks about a month ago, but we lost an hour of sleep ;). I was wondering if you would consider doing a post on the transitions you made throughout recovery, I read a comment saying there were times when you thought your recovery was pretty much there and then realised more and more anxieties kept resolving themselves. I would be so interested to hear about your experience and phases in more detail- I’m sure a lot of people would be greatful for the story too 😉 xo hope you are having a wonderful weekend beautiful Amanda.
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve actually been trying to write a post about my recovery for a while now, but it’s a hard thing to try and encompass so it’s been taking more time than I’d like. It’ll get up eventually though 🙂
Becky @ Olives n Wine
I definitely did not get that extra sleep 🙁 Maybe it had to do with the fact of getting up for a race but I missed it! Thanks for the link love – as always, great reads!
Marina
I love read your link love, because it so interesting seems… Sorry for my bad English, but I just want to say how I like your blog – I read every of your post )) I think, you wonderful
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Aww well thank you, Marina! I hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday.
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs
I’m in Calgary and always like the first snow of the year – so long as I can stay INSIDE and not drive in it 🙂
Yesterday: groceries, cooked dinner, watched LOTS of hockey.
Today: watched INGNYC, writing blog posts, cross training and filming myself for a yoga challenge on my blog. Eeps!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
I definitely took advantage of the extra hour – probably a good thing, because I didn’t get to bed until 1:30 ish last night – so needed. I love daylight savings, except for 2 years ago when I was working an overnight shift and ended up having to work an extra hour. And I am absolutely giving your snow-love the side eye 😉
Yesterday: laundry, Eric’s mom’s for dinner, rode the city bus in full costume.
Today: take Atti to the dog park, roast some kabocha, and go to ‘Retro Night’ at a bar downtown with some friends.
Lauren
I woke up promptly at 6:15 which is when I usually wake up (7:15) and REFUSED to get my ass out of bed. Lol I can’t believe you’re out of bed by 4, girl. You’re definitely a morning person.
Three things yesterday: Baked a cake, went to a local chocolate shop, and took a nap because I was in a poopy mood. Three things today: Decorate cake, watch Eagles, and celebrate my brother’s 29th birthday.
Have a great day at your parents!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Happy Birthday to your bro! Now hand over a slice of cake 😉
Morgan
Weirdly enough over here in Alaska we don’t have snow yet! I am green with envy on your fluffy white stuff. I had a yoga workshop all day yesterday & wore capris with uggs & was totally warm at 45 degrees. They are call for snow at the end of the week though. I do miss it! It was weird not having snow at Halloween. By far my best reading of the week comes from your Sunday post 🙂 thank you!! I spent my extra hour not sleeping at 3am but creating a photo collage for my sisters 30th birthday today- totally worth it ;-)?
Heather
Love these links! I read a few of those myself this week !:) oh how lovely you got snow! It is still so nice here we have our windows open!:) I hope you enjoy your snowy day in! My body doesn’t know it got extra sleep, but I’m grateful for the extra hour though!:)
Olivia @ Liv Lives Life
Yikes. It’s nice to see someone appreciating the snow, because when it comes around here, everyone in my family spends the next four months cursing it. 😉 I hope you can make it out to the resorts!
Great links!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Oh don’t worry — we start cursing it right after the new year 😉
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
The first few snows always make me happy, especially when they are in the months of November-January. After that, though, I start to get sick of them and just want Spring!
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness
ahh the first snow!! i still get as excited as i did when i was a kid for the first snowfall of the year. im excited for boston to get a dusting, but thus far, nada. its so pretty! and what did i do yesterday- i worked. and did i get my extra hour this morning- nope. i woke up when i would normally wake up, but it was an hour earlier. i agree, today is going to be a long day..
Allison @ Life's a Bowl
I definitely didn’t enjoy an extra hour of sleep BUT I was very happy that the sun was shining earlier! Three things that I did yesterday: went to an antique flea market (left with a couple of awesome purchases!), helped my momma clean out her basement, and enjoyed a take-out dinner 😛 Three things that I plan to do today: run a few errands, go bowling with friends, and squeeze in a workout. Happy weekend! XO
Allison @ Life's a Bowl
And P.S. THANK YOU for sharing the pancakes — I’ve been loving them the past few days 😀
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve been wanting to go to a flea market for a while now… I’d love to pick up some food photography props, and that seems like a great place to find some hidden gems. Happy Sunday, girl!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I am always always up early and today was no different lol…It was fine though, I have a ton of “blog maintenance” to tackle so I already spent a few hours working on that, went to the gym and have a full day ahead of me…By 3:00 pm I will be feeling like it should be bedtime. Can’t wait to go through all of your links, love what you round up each week.
Cailee
Wow!! The snow is so beautiful!! 🙂
Ksenija @ With An Open Mind
Thanks for the link love, girl, you’re amazing! And I don’t begrudge you the snow at all. November is usually the rainy and cold month here in Germany, but I hope we’ll get some snow in December for the right Christmas vibes. Fingers crossed for your snowboard weekend.
Jess(ica) @CookingIsMySport
Daylight Savings Time is always a waste of extra time for me where sleep is concerned, since I’m a night owl and an early riser (especially on the weekends when I try to set aside that time to write/cook.) But it’s okay- I’m just using that extra hour to get more done writing-wise.
Three things I did yesterday:
Went grocery shopping with my mom, twin sister and baby niece. Took some new photos for my blog of a new recipe that I’m pretty excited about. Watched my alma mater football team smash our biggest rival, which pretty much made my entire day.
Three things I’m doing today:
Finishing up my newest blog post. Getting some fiction writing done (it’s a secret hobby of mine- shhh!) Cooking for my family. It should also be a pretty good day today too 🙂
<3
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Okay, so I love that your secret hobby involves writing — mine does too 😉
Hope you’re having an amazing day, Jessica!
Laura
I didn’t sleep for that extra hour, but I sure did lay in bed for it knowing I didn’t have anywhere to be. It was glorious…mostly because I NEVER just “lay in bed”.
Three things I did yesterday…
1. Went for a mindful walk and enjoyed everything around me.
2. Got tea with a friend I haven’t seen for a long time.
3. Went on a double date with a friend from work and his wife (as of two weeks ago!). So…SO fun.
Khushboo
So apparently I need to work on my eyebrow game & am content to go with the flow (gala)- the latter sounds about right. I’m surprised they didn’t mentioned Pink Lady apples i.e. my all-time favorite! Can’t wait to see what this baking experiment entails- something delicious undoubtedly! Three things I did today include:
1) Watch Captain Philips at the cinema (AMAZING- highly recommend)
2) Starbucks date with 2 friends
3) Celebrate Diwali
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I was kind of surprised at the Pink Lady thing too, but I’m wondering if the Lady apples aren’t the same thing. And I couldn’t believe they didn’t have Golden Delicious!!
Kelsey @ Ramblings of Change
Snow?! Craziness! I suppose we will be getting our share soon enough in Minnesota! I’m embracing it, though, because it will mean that December is almost here, as well as the end of my undergrad college career (I’m so freakin’ excited to be done!). I didn’t really sleep in either…up at 6:45 (which 7:45 isn’t really sleeping in for me), but I’m embracing it and getting homework + housework done!
Suzanne @ hello, veggy!
Nope, no extra sleep here! I was rearing to go at 6:30 😀
Yesterday I had an unproductive study day, so today’s plan is study, study, study (plus yoga and dinner with my brothers :))
Liz S.
Didn’t get any extra sleep because I woke up with excruciating neck pain. Joy. Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday though, haha 😀
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Ack! I hope you’re doing okay Liz <3
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves
Awesome links as usual!
I didn’t really take advantage of the extra hour because I went to bed an hour later than I normally would…so I got the same amount. I feel like my body has a sleep max as well at around 7.5 hours of sleep. If I’m lucky, 8.5 hours is where it’s at. And hooray for snow! NY probably won’t get any until later this month or even next month. *crossing fingers for sooner*
Have a great Sunday!
Jessie
My sleep didn’t change – wanna know why? Of course you do — Kuwait doesn’t turn clocks forward or backwards! I did take a nap though which I blame on the overcast weather! =) That whole apple thing – it says I go with the flow.. um no! It lies! I much rather live on a schedule, Ha!
Happy Sunday!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I honestly wish they would just get rid of the whole Daylight Savings thing. It just makes things more confusing, and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t even achieve what it was initially meant to do.
