Today is a special day. Why? Well, because it’s Saturday for one, and because I’m currently sitting here enjoying a bowl of one of my all time favorite cereals for another…
… or I guess I should say a bowl of a healthier dupe of one of my all time favorite cereals…
I came across this box of Cinnamon [not-Toast] Crunch by Cascadian Farm on one of the [mandatory] trips that I took to Whole Foods while I was down in Hawaii, and I seriously couldn’t wait to dig my spoon into it. I would have tried it while I was on vacation, but I decided that flying an open box of cereal across the Pacific probably wouldn’t have been the greatest idea I’ve ever had. In any case, it was totally worth the wait. I also managed to snag a box of Nature’s Path toaster pastries while I was over there, but have yet to try them…
It never ceases to amaze me how many products you guys have down there in the States that we don’t get up here in Canada, and I have to say that there’s nothing more frustrating than seeing something delicious on your computer screen and not being able to get your hands on it. Sad face.
That being said, I hope you guys won’t be too upset with me for showing you these…
And these…
Before my trip to Hawaii, I remember hearing the occasional whisper surrounding these fabled treats, but I had never actually come across them in stores… whiiiiich might explain why I kind of, maybe, might have packed my suitcase to the brim with them. Okay, so that might be a slight exaggeration, but I did throw in a couple of extra bags for you guys. That’s right! It’s time for a small giveaway! Why? For no other reason than to say thank you for continuing to read Spoons 😀

Awww, that’s such a sweet giveaway!
One thing all of my favourite vacations have in common is that they were spent with my family. Probably my most favourite of these was our trip to England way back in 2000. Beautiful landscapes, hiking, visiting London and being with my mum, dad, siblings and grandparents made it perfect.

Oh what an awesome giveaway! I have seen the coconut mnm’s but the kisses, oh my I would LOVE them! My favourite vacation is a tough one, I loved Italy as we got married there and the food was out of this world but I also love New York!

I thought that I saw the coconut M&Ms one time in Calgary! I might be mixing it up with some kind of mint M&M though… hmm.
1) Favourite vacation was Germany. I didn’t expect to love that country as much as I did! The people there were kind and welcoming, and they have the most amazing architecture (Cologne Cathedral for example, but pretty much anywhere you go is fantastic).
History is steeped everywhere you look, from the almost completely re-constucted city of Frankfurt (it was severely damaged during bomb raids in WWII) to the fragments of the Berlin Wall scattered in Berlin, the historic university of Heidelberg, Glienicke Bridge… I could go on and on. WWII is obviously a touchy subject for most Germans, but in general they do talk about it, although they play up the part of the resistance movement and talk a lot about HOW he managed to get so much power and why so many Germans were devoted to him, which I think is a really valid way to deal with that elephant in the room. That in itself is fascinating and I think a lot of people agree with me there, that’s not just my history nerd talking.
Plus the food is incredible. I went when I was 16, right before my ED started getting bad, so I was able to enjoy most of it without too much anxiety. Also, the drinking age is 16 there so that was the first time I could drink legally in a country! It was sad to come back to Canada where I had to wait two more years. If you ever go you MUST get schneeballen. They’re these little cookie-like pastries, some covered in sugar and icing, some a little more plain. But oh my god so good. Anyway I’ll stop rambling!

3) I don’t have Twitter or Instagram anymore, sorry 🙁
(Plus if you send it to me you won’t have to pay that much in postage!)

Fav vacay: My wedding/honeymoon trip to Kauai with a group of friends. We stayed at the most beautiful, serene boutique hotel (Koa Kea – go there immediately) which was right on the beach. Everything about the place was amazing – from the food (macadamia nut waffles and pineapple lemon soufflé pancakes!) to the beach themed rooms & ultra comfy beds. <3 <3 <3
Also, the candy store in Canmore sells those coconut m&ms! Random, right?

I had a cinnamon toast crunch obsession for years – so I would adore that cereal!
I think my favourite vacation (as of late) would be the trip to Mexico I took with friends last May. It was the first time in years I truly let go, relaxed, and drank/ate whatever I want, whenever I wanted it (which ended up being a lot of guacamole, coconut pina coladas and mudslides) :-p Plus climbing the pyramid at Coba was pretty epic as well!

My favorite vacation was to Hawai’i with my family in 2008. 2008 was a big year for us: Mom and Dad 25th wedding anniversary, my 18th birthday, graduation high school, mom turned 50, so we wanted to celebrate it in a big way! We spent 2 weeks in Hawai’i and I ate my weight in pineapple, did a lot of hiking and swimming, and got to scuba diva with sharks! It was AMAZING and it was so much fun to bond with my family one last time on vacation before I went to college.

Aw, fun! I loved going with my sister to Walt Disney World when I ran my first half marathon. We had a great trip together, and I loved having her wait for me in Epcot after I finished running to meet up and go on rides together (at 1am, no less!).
Have a great weekend, Amanda!

Favorite vacation was, for sure, taking the kids to Disneyland a couple of years ago. This year we’re taking them to Disneyworld and I’m so excited I can hardly wait. I guess I’m a kid at heart! 😉 I also love Destin, Flordia and we had a blast there last year and we’re going back this year. I am so jealous that you went to Hawaii, though…..what a dream vacation.

Last summer one of my best friends was getting married in NYC but since I’d been in LA for the last few years, I hadn’t made it back to NYC or (my favorite city) Boston for several years, so I decided to make it a longer trip with a few days in each city before the wedding. I went with one of my other best friends and had such a great time! Seriously a trip to remember.
