Hello, hello and happy Monday!
To be honest, I had absolutely no idea what to write about today. Not a clue. I wasn’t struck by any epiphanies, I didn’t feel like being creative in the kitchen, and the most out-of-place thing that happened was that I slept in until 6:30 and somehow managed to snap a picture of the clock at the exact second that it was changing from 6:50 to 6:51 when I started cooking my breakfast an hour later than usual…
Weird π― Other than that, it was just the same old, same old.
I started the day with breakfast…
You know the drill. Oats. Eggs. Bananas. Almond butter. Pudding. Breakfast.
. – . – . – .
I worked…
Paperwork = Hate Very much dislike.
. – . – . – .
I worked out…
[15 minute treadmill intervals to warm up followed by 45 minutes weights/abs via NROLFW]
. – . – . – .
I broke for lunch…
[Protein shake, yogurt mess with cereal and trail mix, salad beast]
. – . – . – .
I worked some more…
The only key I wanted to hit on that keyboard was the Zzzzzzz…
. – . – . – .
The postman subtly reminded me that it’s been far too long since I’ve been to Ikea and that I should probably go in and re-acquaint myself with their stock since I need new furniture anyway…
Ob.sessed.
. – . – . – .
I took my girl to the vet for her follow-up…
She knows what’s coming…
Look left. Look right.
No one’s looking! Quick! Hide!
. – . – . – .
I celebrated health (hers and mine) with more ice cream…
It’s official. I’m addicted. No interventions please.
. – . – . – .
I started re-reading a favorite book for probably the 11th time because I ran out of new ones and promised myself I wouldn’t buy anymore until after I move (which, to be honest, isn’t going to happen)…
I first read this book for my English 101 class, and fell in love.
. – . – . – .
I got all excited that tomorrow is August 23rd because it means that the newest Gossip Girl season is coming out on DVD, and I’ll have something to keep me occupied Β for at least a few of the next 23 days until my moveΒ (EeeeEEEEeeeE)…
One of the only shows that I watch regularly on the tee-vee.
. – . – . – .
I thought about packing, but ultimately decided against it (again)…
Probably not my smartest idea… the days are counting down!
. – . – . – .
I got my zen on instead…
I went from thoughts of “ommmmn” to thoughts of “nommmm” and knew it was dinner time.
. – . – . – .
I made dinner…
Pumpkin chili Mexican scrambleΒ topped with avocado, salsa, and cottage cheese.
. – . – . – .
I went shopping for a friend…
I have a friend that’s going through a rough patch, and figured she could use a little love.
. – . – . – .
I found the cutest container for my unused avocado halves…
It’s goofy things like this that make me smile.
. – . – . – .
And I’ll probably finish the night with some blog reading and snacking…
Oat bran mixed with applesauce, alongside Greek yogurt, flaxmeal, maple syrup, and cinnamon.
. – . – . – .
So that’s it. Just your average day. No glitz. No glamour. No fireworks. There are times when I look at days like today and think to myself “Huh.Β My life is kind of boring“, but I’m honestly happy with the way things are right now. I used to be really big on the whole party scene, and I’d be out atΒ bars, clubs, and parties pretty much 7 days a week, but it got old, and although I have plenty of good memories from those days, it’s not really the kind of lifestyle that I’d like to return to.
And then there’s the whole moving thing. Right now, I feel like I’m in some sort of a limbo where I’m really just waiting for life to begin once I move into my new place; like I’m holding my breath and just… waiting. It’s frustrating, but at least I only have 3 more weeks of it to go π
. – . – . – .
Do you ever feel like everyone else is leading a much more interesting life than you are?Β I do sometimes, but then I remember to keep in mind that you don’t usually get to see the boring and mundane parts of most people’s days, so the picture you get of their lives isn’t entirely accurate.
Ice cream: in a cone or in a cup?
Laura
Gah, my life seems so boring and monotenous right now, I just want uni to start. Though I know that wi bring stress! At least ill have a lot to focus on.
I tend to go with cup because im a clutz and dont want to risk spilling my beloved icecream.
BUT, waffe cones rock, and are amazing.
Ikea is also rocks, and has great frozen yogurt too! For 99 cents, have you tried it?
buttonss - Cherie
Hahahaah ‘ommm’ to ‘nommm’!!
Gossip girl!!! yesss, im so excited. Goodbye doing assignments, Hello GG!
My boyfriend suggested last night I should buy an ‘avocado saver’. I actually think they would be really handy.
Icecream.. in either.
Cones are so yummy and crunchy, but then I love getting to the end of an icecream in a bowl and its half melted. Maybe I can find a happy medium of having an icecream in a cone, turning it on its head and sticking it in a bowl?
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Or having it in a bowl and crumbling the cone over top π
vegan aphrodite
Ice cream in a cup π Never been a fan of the cone.. But they do look cute π
I like your day!! It might be average, but it is filled with so many of life`s joys: Your pretty dog, yum foods, Gossip Girl (looove that show) and a workout! I love the days I dont have anything planned and i can just relax and do “boring” things!
Andrea
1. Made pudding last night. Had it in my oats this morning. I think you’re on to something!! It will definately be making a reappearance… maybe like.. every day. π
2. In a way, I do feel like everyone is leading a more exciting life than I am. I don’t really hang out with friends that much. Mostly I spend time with my boyfriend, my parents, and my dog and cats! BUT, I know that I am doing what makes me happy. I used to be one of those people that partied allll the time, but I realized that the people I was partying with weren’t really my friends. I was just someone else to party with to them. And I wasn’t happy with that. Not to mention that wasn’t the “healthiest” habit. ANYWHO, I am happy with my life, exciting or not. π
And ice cream ANY way. Cone, dish, cup, in my hands! Haha
almostveggirlie
Oh my gosh, I just discovered IKEA and I love it! They just built one in a city near me and I went on the opening day (which was also my birthday) and I ended up getting two really cool lamps and a little pink caddy because the store gave me a gift card since it was my birthday π
There are some days that my life does seem boring to me, but honestly, I’d rather not be out partying or anything like most of the people in college do. I’d rather just hang out and do yoga, or catch up on TV or enjoy being outside. As long as I’m enjoying it, I don’t care if my life is boring by others’ standards!
Rachel @ Eat, Learn, Discover!
This day looks near ideal to me! I’ve always led a relatively ‘boring’ life by normal standards. I’m going into my third year in college and I don’t think I’ve ever gone out 2 weekends in a row, let alone 2 days in a row! Part of me wonders whether or not I would be happier as a part of the party scene, but when it comes down to it, I can’t force myself to have fun – it wouldn’t work. I’ve never been a really social person, even though I do love to go exploring and do fun things. But I would be perfectly happy with a a day that consisted of a workout, some cooking, a trip to the store, coffee, wandering and lounging.
Emilia Miller (@NamasteGurl)
Looks like one heck of a day to me– filed with all my favorite eats (we seriously have VERY similar taste in food!) and things to do. Glad you enjoyed it all π
I’m SUPER boring– a good day for me includes being outdoors and running or biking, eating yummy wholesome food and lounging around. π
Kaila @healthyhelperblog!
I love that avocado holder!!! Such a cute idea!
And I have to know!!! What kind of icecream is that? Like what brand? It looks so creamy and delish!!!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
It’s Chapman’s http://www.chapmans.ca/ π
Kristie
IKEA! Love it. It’s been far too long since I’ve been there too. I’m a little jealous that you are soon going to have a whole place to yourself that you can Ikeafy. I need a good excuse to load up on Ikea goods.
I’m glad to hear that book gets your stamp of approval. I’ve had it sitting on my shelf for a couple years now but STILL haven’t gotten around to reading it (I need to make leisure reading a much bigger priority!). That one might have to get bumped up in the line.
LOVE that pandora charm (you’re such a sweet friend). AND the avocado “box”, that’s genius!
I think most people are leading much more “boring” lives than we think. People don’t talk about or show off (ehemfacebookstalking?) their everyday routines. They gab about the good stuff. Which likely makes up a small percentage of most people’s daily lives. But all those simple, routine days can be pretty awesome too. I like simplicity sometimes. Okay, often π
Ice cream = cone. Though I’ll admit I order it more often in a cup. Easier to eat I guess? Cones are way more fun though.
spectacuLAUR
I ALWAYS feel like people have more of an exciting life because I’ve put myself into a state of isolation for so long. Eeeek. But oh wellz, I mean… I am pretty grandma cause I got to bed early and wake up early to watch Regis and Kelly. Haha!
I think I like ice cream better in a cup because I love toppings and when it’s on a cone, the sprinkles run down when the ice cream melts. Boo.
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance
So sweet of you to buy a Pandora charm for your friend during her struggle. You’re such a beautiful person <3
I used to feel like that very often until my recent coming to Christ. It might sound really cliche and may not make much sense– but by feeling like I actually have something larger than life to live for has made me want to make strides and help others in ways that I couldn't even fathom before,
And cone, 100%. π
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
That actually makes perfect sense, and it’s a beautiful thought π
lifttorun
Oat bran mixed with applesauce? I need to try that.
Tori (Fresh Fruition)
Oh my gosh do I feel that way. Sometimes I spend my day grocery shopping, working on artwork for classes, napping, yoga-ing, etc. I don’t really interact with anyone on a deep level and nothing ‘interesting’ happens, but I always end the day content. I can’t do that too often, though. I need interaction! I feed off the energy of the city and the people. But even when I’m out and about gettin’ my ‘energy’ on, I don’t necessarily do anything eventful. School is boring.
Wake up. Class. Lunch. Class. Class. Nap. Class. Work on perfecting projects (that will ultimately never meet my perfectionist standards) all other moments. HAHA!
Cup all the way! No drips for me, please!
I’m so excited for you! Can’t wait to see your new place. And OHMIGOOSSHHH do I love IKEA. It’s sort-of bad for me to go, though.
‘Oh, this is too cheap and adorable NOT to buy!’
-20 items later-
‘Ehhhrrmmmm…..’
HAHA!
And I do love avocado, but I only have it when I go out to eat. I don’t eat enough of it to keep it from going bad! That little container is brilliant!
<3 <3 <3
Kate @ Chasing It
lol yeah my life is totally boring. I don’t mind the tamer lifestyle though, too many late nights out is just overwhelming and exhausting! (I think most people’s lives are pretty ordinary 95% of the time…and if not they’re bound to burn out soon!)
Tara
I love average days. I don’t think I appreciate them enough when I have them, because when my life starts to get really exciting and busy, I really wish that I could just chill and go through the normal motions, ya know? It’s comforting! By the way, I love that book so much — I would love to read it again. I’ve tried to convince my mom to read it so many times so maybe I need to lead by example. I read it in freshman year of high school and it may have been the only book I enjoyed that year!
Albizia
I almost always feel like everybody is leading a much more interesting life than me. I am supposed to be having the best time of my life right now, living 10 000 km away from home but it is just not happening. I have to ask some of the other international students about the secret of actually enjoying this experience because I am clueless. But sometimes it is good to have a calm eventless day to recharge your batteries.
On a stick, in a cone or straight from the box – it doesn’t matter at all. It is the taste that matters and if the ice cream is good, it will still be good even if you eat it from Π° saucepan.
Julianna @ Julianna Bananna
your dinner looks delicious!!
it depends on my mood for whether i want my ice cream in a cup or cone. cones are a lot of fun but i feel like you get more ice cream in a cup, which is always a plus. i’d have to say my favorite is having ice cream in a cup, but with waffle cone pieces as a topping. YUM!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
!! Now THAT is something that I haven’t tried. Thank you for the idea π Definitely going to crumble my cone on top the next time I have ice cream.
spinach&spice
Ice cream in a cup for me π
I looove love love Life of Pi too. It was the first book I read in high school and I fell in love right there and then! Your meals always look so good and well-balanced, yet simple! Just what I need ..(and will need starting college in september!)
A.S.
hey just out of curiosity, do you borrow books from the library or do you buy all your novels? It seems all the books you read are brand new!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
I buy all of my books. After food, books is probably where I spend most of my money. I love them, and love my growing collection π
Alexandra
Yay life of pi woooooo! That book never ever gets old π
I totally know what you mean! My life feels oober boring sometimes, like a rut. Oh well, tis fun though.
And I love ice cream in a bowl AND a cone!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss
I was right along with you having no idea what to write about today…but I can say you seemed to still have much more of an interesting day than I did. π
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes
I have the same avacado holder! haha loves it! I get soo excited when my Ikea mag comes too π
Tiff
Sometimes I feel that way, but not usually. I’m a dork who pretends to be exciting. I at least keep busy, so I guess that helps. And it’s cone for me. Definitely waffle cone, though sugar is a more reasonably sized alternative. Then again, I’m not one to turn down ice cream in cone, cup, tasting spoon, whatever… it’s all goooood!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Haha it’s definitely all good. I’m particularly fond of it straight from the box when it’s all melty from sitting on the counter for a little while.
Alexis
Ahhhh 3 weeks!! Time is flyin by!
I do feel like others lead more exciting interesting lives but I’m very happy with where I’m at π
lactosefreelizzie
I’m all about a cup for my “ice cream”. π I always spill on myself when I use a cone..lol.
when i was 4 i once dropped the ice cream off the cone 3 times, before my dad snapped and said i had to eat it from a dish. lol it was pretty funny.
i had a typical day too, but your typical days always look delicious.
emma green
O….M….G! Just made your eggy naner oats – DELICIOUS!!! Thank you!
recoveringfree
I felt like my life was in a rut over the summer. Work, sleep. Work, sleep. But now that I have a change ov environment both at school and a new apartment…I feel refreshed. I think your move will excite your life a bunch π
And ice cream is best in a cup with rainbow sprinkles. I know. I make the stuff for a summer living π
Love your blog!!
katshealthcorner
Ice cream in a cup for me! π Girl, that is so cool with the oven time! It looks like it doesn’t even have a last digit in the time. Haha, that is so cool. π I seem to have the same breakfast every morning, but I’m ok with that, because it is just so good! π
cleaneatingchelsey
I loved the book Life of Pi! I read it years ago, but I remember it being very good!
2tightlywound
Have you gotten your workout mojo back? Because I had a pretty lousy workout today, so you might have stolen mine…
And I am far too messy for ice cream in a cone, so I like an ice cream cone turned upside down in a cup π
sarah
YES, I always think people are living a more wild life than I am- and then I hate when they ask me what I’m up to, and I’m like ummm… Hey, I like a more quiet life!
Wonder if you’ll ever tire of your pudding oats brekky. I remember from your old blog you used to eat apple pie oats quite a lot, I know cos I made them! Pudding oats probably have the edge because chocolate is generally involved:)
Neither a cup or a cone form me thank you. I don’t like ice-cream- it makes me cold , hurts my sensitive teeth and its always a race to finish it before it melts:p. Guess that just means more for all the many ice-cream lovahs out there!
Xxx
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
I remember those apple pie oats! It’s been ages since I’ve had them, but I definitely enjoy these more. I’m still waiting to tire of them, but I never seem to π Every time I switch them up and have something different in the morning, I always wish I had stuck to the tried-and-true.
Sarah - feeedingbrainandbody
That’s so awesome you got the clock at that exact moment in time! Such a small instant that you can’t even see it with the human eye, but the camera caught it…unbelievable. I sometimes think that my life is uber boring but then I realize I’m happy with my day to day life and there are always little things that happen that surprise me or make me smile.
That waiting period for moving must be frustrating. When I have to wait for something I always keep telling myself “don’t think too much about it” because I’m worried that I will just be setting myself up for disappointment.
I love ikea, and remember as a kid me and my sister would spend hours looking through the catalogue and choosing what we would have in our house when we grow up…good memories π
In Sweetness and In Health
Yes! Most people are probably living lives that are more interesting than mine haha. But, like you, I’m really ok with how I am. I would rather be “boring” and happy than partying and not enjoying it. Definitely ice cream in a cup, with a cone on the side! I just hate how it drips all over me haha. What kind of job do you have?
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Hehe I JUST answered this above ^^
Victoria
Definitely a cup! I’m not a huge ice cream fan, though… but I love sorbet and sherbet.
All that paperwork looks intense! Can I ask what you do for work?
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
We have a family business, and I take care of a lot of the finances and order a lot of the stuff that we need. I like it because it’s flexible, I can work from home, and it gives me something to do until I get a more concrete hold on what I want to do now that I’m graduated.
Aimee at walkingthrusunflowers
The Life of Pi is a wonderful book! One of my favorites too!
I think you had a very productive day – by no means boring at all! Sorry to hear your friend is going through a rough time but im sure that charm will definately cheer her up!
Where did you find such a clever gadget for the avocado? Its adorable!
Ice cream – well i like a cup when i want toppings so they don’t fall off but when im in the mood for something crunchy – a cone is the perfect treat! Ice cream anyway is yummy!
Katie @ Nutrition in a peanut shell
Hell yes on everyone having more interesting lives than me.
A lot of kids my age are out partying and hanging out and stuff, and I have like, 2 friends who are right in front of me at 1st and 2nd in the class. It’s so sad. But I feel like I’m just an old soul sometimes.
Oh and “I went from thoughts of βommmmnβ to thoughts of βnommmmβ and knew it was dinner time.”
totally made me giggle
As for ice cream: neither…stick π
Jenn L @ Peas and Crayons
I would never deduct that your life is boring =) you’re just a rad girl with a condo to close and decorate and a fabulous friend who can cook and give heartfelt gifts =) oh and a puppy mama! important things dahhling!
love you so! =)
ps: I SLEPT IN TOO!!!!!!!!!!! Twas kind of glorious. I barely needed my coffee today!
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
Me too! I only managed to finish half my cup this morning, which kind of made me sad because I look forward to my daily cup so much!
missymiller
There is something highly …thriling about that clock snapshot. You captured a moment our eyes never see. Awesome.
Samantha
Cup all the way. I really am not a fan of cones, I dislike the crunch, and I find that the ice cream makes them mushy, bleh… which is one of the reasons I can’t even eat my cereal with milk, have to have the cereal in a bowl, and a glass of milk on the side (I should have answered that the day the question was about weird eating habits, because that is definitely a weird one… and I still eat the dry cereal with a baby spoon errr…)
Some definitely lead a more interesting life than me… but then I remember small things like I work in the film industry (and that is definitely interesting), or I get to travel to new cities once in a while because of work (currently in Montreal), and because my job isn’t always the most steady I get to travel (going to Korea in a month) … which are all very interesting, interesting depends on what the person thinks. I like reading books, and relaxing on the weekends where people may find that boring but I find it fun. It’s all in the eye of the beholder π

Ice cream in a cup for me, please! By the way, what brand of ice cream have you been enjoying?
Samantha
yesterday the box in the background with the cone looked like Chapman’s π
missymiller
For real! It looks like soft serve from a machine. Is there a food you cannot make look absolutely incredible? You have mad food stylin skills.
Amanda @ Running with Spoons
It is indeed Chapman’s http://www.chapmans.ca/ π It’s one of the few peanut friendly ice creams for those of us that need it.
